When I was young, my mother was a non-functioning alcoholic, and my father was not in the picture. I would make myself feel better by taking some cash or a card from her purse and treating myself to an entire large pizza.
When she finally decided to get help, she packed everything and left, leaving our home to get foreclosed on by the bank. I didn't have any money or anything left to me but a house that I was going to be kicked out of. I spent my time walking the streets to find enough change to buy some 99 cent burgers. I didn't eat some days.
I am in a much, much better situation, now. However, I still see food as my source of comfort and happiness because of these times in my life.
To make things worse, I also suffer from border-line severe sleep apnea. This leaves me exhausted and carb craving, all day, every day.

I tend to overeat when i am stressed!
Or when i cook something i really enjoy eating as well for my family
it is so hard to eat just a bit of it.:noway:
I also overeat the day after my weigh in and once i do that it is always soooo hard to get back on track the next day!
What makes you overeat?
Boredom. Depression.2 -
Stress and sadness trigger binge eating for me as well. It's a comfort thing and such a bad habit. I used to run instead of eat but when I hurt my back and started to have pain in both my feet I dont run as much as I want to. I can still run but I always come up with excuses to eat instead and now I'm at a point where I'm ashamed of how bad of shape I'm in. I need to lose at least 40 pounds and that's probably being easy on myself. It's a comfort to see some of you with similar challenges.
Good luck to you! Feel free to add me as a friend, I dont know how lol0 -
I generally overeat when I'm feeling lonely or getting over an ex lol. I also overeat when I'm bored -_-. It's sad to say, but food is my comfort during those times. I'm working on finding more healthy and positive outlets for those times.1

I overeat when alone or bored. Then regret it. Get back on track only to do same thing again the next week.

My emotions always make me feel like I have to eat. If I am pissed off, I cram so much food in me it's disgusting. When I'm sad I tend to eat chips or chocolate to soothe my soul. God help me if I am happy(lol) emotional eating sucks.....

I overeat when I'm very sad, or extremely bored.
If I have a high protein meal for lunch I'm usually okay later in the day, but fasting is hard the first day. Other than that it takes more extreme sides of emotion to get me.0 -
I'm a huge emotional eater. While I hate running to an "app" for everything, a dietician recommended "Eat Right Now" to me. I was able to get a discount for a six-month plan at work, and I follow the modules every day. I wasn't sure I'd put much stock in it, but I think it is helping I do the R.A.I.N exercises, etc. Might be worth checking out for those who are like me - emotional eaters, and people who might not eat so mindfully at times.0

I am still trying to figure out why I overeat and what are my triggers. I have been overweight all my life and love food. But I am tired of Lodi g, getting close to goal, and gaining it back. So I am ready to get in touch with answer I g this question and to be honest with myself.0

All too true. Social situations definitely make me eat or sometimes drink too much. I don’t always realize how many liquid calories I’m taking in, and then of course I end up making poor food choices because of it.0

Stress!!!1

Stress. When I'm sad about my mom's deteriorating health. When I'm worried about my kids. When I'm angry with a colleague. When I want to celebrate something. OMG - everything makes me want to eat. Problem!0

An array of different emotions. I'm learning to accept them all. Positive and negative. I feel them. I tell myself I'm ok and that what I'm currently feeling isn't who I am as a person. I then try some self soothing techniques. I love two different apps on my phone. The pally app and the devicer app. Both are free. They teach you new ways to deal with eating. How to deal with your emotions. I've lost 12 pounds so far. I highly recommend you listen to these.0

I overeat if I’m bored or anxious but since I started Intermittent Fasting (if) it’s gotten a bit better.
Certain foods make me overeat too like white bread...0 -
Food is too darn tasty. I emotionally eat, but I find that anymore it's so easy to overindulge. I find I'm not in a place financially to afford things like vacations or outings so instead I give myself cheap food rewards. It's not as big an issue anymore, but I find that's more the reason than stress and emotions lately.1

I eat out of boredom, out of a bad habit to snack or want comfort in something sweet or crunchy.0
-
Alcohol is a real issue at times for me. I don't drink often but when I do I overdo it then eat on top of it. Ugh0

I always seem to over eat on my WI days, regardless of the outcome. I could have gained 20 pounds and still I would eat. I am trying to do things that aren't food related but they are really hard.
I can stay on track at work most days, really well actually. It is when I get home and relax I slip. I am about to put a lock on my food cabinets and fridge...

I overeat for any reason, or no reason. However, in the short two weeks I've been doing this new effort, I've removed almost all of the foods I would normally binge on - and replaced them with cucumbers. They are crunchy and sweet, and leave me feeling satisfied - but I only really use them when I want to binge. As a result, my binging is almost gone - but I do find myself being very tempted when eating favorite dishes - but so far I've been able to manage.2

Pleasure. As a caregiver, I spend all of my day tending to the needs of someone I love. But, it gets weary. Late night, alone time is when I indulge...overindulge!3
-
@jonathansrcom I'm a big fan of this tactic, either cucumbers or dill pickles knocks it out for me when I'm having a really bad craving.
I overeat to deal with emotional issues or because I just plain love the food. Sometimes it's because I'm bored, but I keep myself pretty busy these days so this doesn't happen nearly as often now.1 -
@jonathansrcom Aldi’s has delicious half sour pickles. Salty, crunchy and only 5 calories each! Fills that need for chips, for me. 🙂3
-
I overeat when I am stressed or board. I also over eat when I cook something I love, or we eat out someplace. I often feel like I can never cook the food again or can't go back to the restaurant again. I know that sounds silly but that is what I tend to do.0

I pan roasted almond nuts yesterday. They tasted so good . So, my calories were over because I ate 60 g of them. I eat low carbs and no sugary foods so I don't have cravings or strong hunger. I have to keep busy when I want to snack when I'm not even hungry. I'm still slowly losing weight though.🥜0

I agree with the othets. Food is my best friend and I need to figure out how break this destructive relationship and develop a new healthy one.0

My worst food moments are sadness, stress or boredom. Food has always been a comfort to turn to, a distraction, and a way to occupy time. My relationship with it has never been 100% healthy but it’s gotten out of hand lately and I need to change the way I relate to food.0
