My first time riding something other than a hardtail (well, since I was about 8 years old). Its going to make my new commute much quicker.

just the base level shimano SPD's that i'd robbed from the mountainbike for it's first spin on delivery day... the XT SPD's I'd ordered for the bike didn't turn up until the following day (courier had lost the parcel!)
it's a bit different now - cranks replaced with Ultegra, the tyres swapped for Vittoria Cross XN-Pro's, though I'm probably going to swap them next week to the XL-Pro's running "Ghetto Tubeless" and get out in some of the lovely mud we've got at the moment.
Oh - and I also broke the saddle with a rather over-exuberant leap into the saddle, so that's swapped, and the bottle cages didn't work well off-road either, so were swapped for replacements that actually retained the bottle...

Yep, think I am going to spend a bit of time at LBS adding/changing bits and pieces over the next few months. They have been giving me 10% discount on any extras I buy, and provide coffee and biscuits if it looks like the bike will be in the workshop for more than 10 mins.
There is no shortage of mud around at the moment (not far from Bath, UK). LBS did suggest mudguards, but I'm not sure I could bring myself to do that0 -

I agree with "girl-stylin'" for the ride. I have a variety of 4 bikes I ride and helmets to match each one.0

They are nice. I have the NON-fleece lined model. Basically it is a giant neoprene cover over the grips/shifters. I took them out at 17 degrees with just a light mountain glove. My hands were nice and toasty. I like them.

After much thought and consideration, I went with a traditional MTB instead of a fattie. I realized I'd have to drop another $500+ to get it where I wanted it to really be and then only with a compromise. Now I can start saving my pennies for a fattie. Like Mick says, "you don't always get what you want...you get what you need." And I'm super stoked, and if the quick little off road I did this morning is any indication, it's going to be a very fun summer.0 -

is this for use with that mech-hanger extender gizmo ?? keep us posted how it works, I've just swapped to a GS Ultegra rear mech, that'll cope (at a push) with a 32T cassette (it's rated for a 30T, which is what's on now, but I reckon that the 32T is only about 4mm larger radius than 30T (based on "chain-pivot centres" radius is 64.68mm cf 60.63mm) and as my rear jockey wheel is a good 12mm clear of the 30T (and the b-tension bolt isn't screwed all the way in at the moment) it'd probably be fine. However, something that'll lift everything an extra 2cm or so would mean an XT 11-36 would probably be featuring in my near future...

Yes, the Super Tack Tape is similar to Lizard Skin. It may not be as thick as LS but it is tacky.
Hmmm...maybe I should move the Garmin more to the right...
