Woke early this morning (well - early for me - at the moment i'm working late evening/nights - getting to bed around 2:30am local time) saw that the sun was shining, and decided on an early(ish) ride. Quick breakfast, and on the road for 8am, 2 hours and 50km later, returned to a large coffee and a second breakfast - riding kit in the wash ready for tomorrow, house all clean and tidy before my Dad actually woke up... Couple of hours of work on the computer (make myself an easy night with a bit of luck) and settled down for 4 more hours of Eurosport and LeTour. Bliss :-)

Fighting the urge now to slip into something more comfortable - like unconsciousness  Same trick won't work tomorrow - it's forecast rain 'till 11am then dry 'till maybe 2:30pm. I'll take that

My ride today was full of hills. 51 meters of climb in 42 kilometers. I know all of you will pity me. I rode from the house I grew up in, to my old high school, and then back. As I kid, I could never make the ride because I had really bad asthma. Discovered later in life that wheat and flour give me asthma. As long as I avoid it, I can ride fine.

You crack me up! Sounds like a fun ride. If I rode the mile from my house of childhood to my high school and then back... I'd climb more than 51 meters!

I'm angling for the "rode the entire Tour in the hottest weather" award, which should be a lifetime supply of ice...

I was not feeling right but rode anyhow. I was up at 5am (just woke up, no reason) and did my planned easy one mile walk/run then got back and was a bit tummy sick... then did some things around the house and then passed out for a two hour nap (note, I do not nap... I am incapable of napping... this was weird). So, I figured after a two hour nap surely I could ride the minimum 13.6 miles needed today. What an idiot I am. It was already so hot at 11am that I barely made it home around 14 miles. I went slowly and avoided hills for the most part (except the one I have to climb to get home) and chose roads with more shade where possible and it still felt like crap. Official temp at ride finish was 102f (39c). My Garmin says 110f/43c.

    Shoot. Me.

Consider yourself onboard my friend - pin one of these to your shirt and post your rides in the mileage thread...

Quick update, and not definitive results as yet BUT...

Team 1 have hit the required distance for 3 from 4 stages so far - one of the team riders is away on tour, and won't be logging until their return, but from their expected schedule, it's looking good  In fact, the cumulative Km's booked by team 1 for the prologue and first 3 stages actually puts team 1 just past the "neutralised zone" on stage 5.

Team 2 have now filled their team rosta, and it would be unfair to make any comparisons as yet. They do,, however, have without doubt the fastest couple of rides booked, courtesy of their resident trackie

What I was actually considering doing was to put the spreadsheet on Google Docs. - Just had a quick look, and it doesn't like all the wierd formulas and calculations I've built in the actual spreadsheet, but what I may do at the end of each week is post a "snapshot" table with all the formulae converted to plain numbers/text - just so people can see what's what. How would that be ??

Well - today's ride's going to be a bit different for me - the local council have actually closed a large section of the road that my regular ride goes around - apparently there's a new gas main going in down there, so that'll be a lovely big uneven patch of tarmac for a couple of miles of my regular route to contend with when they've finished - and at the rate they actually resurface roads around here, probably for the next 4 years.

Anyhooo - the roads closed, so I'm just setting off towards the hillier bits today - might see if I can get up to the base of Emley Moor TV mast and back before it rains for the rest of the afternoon.

You could just print it to a PDF now and then and post that in googledocs.

I'm still "faffing" with the spreadsheet TBH - It's a big multiple page thing, with a page for each team slot, then a consolidation page to get the "team" summary. I'll probably build an extra "results" page that shows the "current" classification leaders when I get a bit of spare time in between riding, updating the sheet and "paying the rent"

There appears to be a 3 to 1 ratio of team 1 posting mileages to team 2

Come on Team 2... We got this...

... not that I'm a wee bit competitive you understand :blushing:

Rajiv - We've filled two teams, and I doubt we'll get enough riders to get a sensible number of people for a third, so what I'd propose is this... We'll book you in as rider 319a - that's to say you're in team #2, book your rides in the mileage thread, and what I propose is this - for any given day, we take the longest 9 rides from each team and ignore the short ride for the overall mileage. The individual who's mileage is dropped for the overall will still have that days ride count, altitude and average speed for their individual figures.

If we get another person wishing to join, then they'll book in as 309a, then 319b,309b and so on...

I love the TdF Challenge, its a hoot- thanks for making it fun- Its great for me to have something to focus on for the rest of the month.

I'm about to relocate to Bath- my 4 mile commute(I've never commuted before) is going to be a bit of s shock to the system! I feel that I may be motivated to keep my weight down!!! Walking is not an option!!!

Being a ex-rugby player - the phrase "Team Bath" has entirely different connotations - and always struck me as being particularly uyn-hygienic

It is just too blooming hot! Forecast is again 105f/41c. Shoot me.

I didn't push much today because it's a swim day and I need to get in 2,500 meters of that, too.

58f and just under 3 inches of rain since midnight last night - thankfully, it's my planned rest day, otherwise i'd have been watching LeTour and pedalling on the Tacx Trainer for a couple of hours...
