I think that 3 inches of rain ended up in my socks on the way home this afternoon!

Question: What do you guys do about wearing cycling glasses in the rain? it's a pain to ride without them but if i wear them they either fog up or end up impossible to see out of with all the water on the lenses.

Fog up? I don't think we live in the same climate.

I just keep riding and wipe them down now and then.

Well - I pretty much NEED prescription lens glasses, just treated myself to a pair of Adidas ones from iOptix - the Adivista's with a prescription insert. I also cheat, and give the lenses a quick treatment with a anti-misting treatment my mate, a motorbike fiend recommended - it's called "fogtech" from www.visorvision.co.uk - I treat BOTH sides of the insert, and the inside of the front lens. Doesn't stop the outside beading up with rain, but at least it doesn't fog up inside as well. I just keep my left hand mit's snot wipe for the glasses and the right hand for... well... snot

Nice easy day coming up folks - 41.5km of time trial on monday, and a rest day to follow. Time to get all the cycling gear washed and clean ready for the next 6 days, and maybe give the bike a bit of TLC as well - or in my case, at least pour the worst of the floodwater out of the frame... Had a couple of roads today that had turned into "impromptu fords" as the run-off from fields had caused localised flooding :grumble:

Oh - I've had a quick look at the GC for our challenge... It's incomplete, and there are some gaping holes where people haven't posted, either due to not being around, or forgetting, but i'd appreciate if you could have a quick look at it - it's in .PDF format at

    http://www.mb-software.co.uk/MFP/MFP-TdF_20120708_GC.PDF

The yellow highlighted bits are where I've had notification of rides/non riding days.

Any errors, PM me, and if you can fill any of the gaps (even if it's "no ride") post your updates in the mileage thread.

I plan to ride on both rest days to make up for not riding next Saturday and Sunday. I'll be officiating a road race, a time trial, and a criterium, so not likely to,get even a short ride in...

It is just too blooming hot! Forecast is again 105f/41c. Shoot me.

I didn't push much today because it's a swim day and I need to get in 2,500 meters of that, too.
really!!!! your not riding because its hot!!! i mean you create your own breeze when riding and you are going to get hot even if you exercise indoors - so why create an obstacle that you can easily overcome?? i rode 60 miles yesterday and it was 103!! try to do it - it may not be as bad as you think

That's a shame; you are team 2's biggest distance holder at the moment! Team 1 are miles ahead of us at the moment...

    Come on team 2!

Well - I'll try and get out tomorrow and knock off team #1's Time Trial distance, and then I'm into my rest day, which amazingly seems to have fitted nicely with LeTour's schedule. Big problem I've got is that my Birthday coincides with the next "day 4 rest day" in my training diary... this is not good - if ever there's a day when I NEED to go out and get some miles in, in anticipation of a surfiet of calories in the evening it's on my birthday! It is at least fitting that it's on Bastille Day...

You have not paid attention. I have not missed riding yet... Sheesh. I think I know a thing or three about cycling (and swimming, and running) in the heat, thanks.

Well - that's me "off duty" 'till Wednesday am.

Don't forget, it's a rest day tomorrow - so you CAN ride if you want, but don't bother logging it, as it doesn't count on the challenge

I plan to take advantage of that rest day....my knees need a break. I probably won't get a ride in on Thursday unless I can sneak out of work few hours aearly as I have softball league and we plan in the early game so I can't swing both activities. Sorry!

Was going to ride today, but didn't as it was lashing down as 5:45 this morning. Was feeling guilty too as I rested yesterday, but as it wouldn't have counted anyway, I'm glad I didn't ride :noway: I can do a bit on the Turbo tonight now (without the guilt) and get back on it tomorrow (when the forecast is still no better no doubt). :grumble:

    Onwards and upwards!

    Come on team 2!

Why not download yesterdays route for the Time Trial and use it as a virtual course on the Tacx ?? See how you compare to the pro's

Only got two miles in yesterday before a massive puncture. Got it fixed in the evening but storms kept me inside. Now, I have awakened with a massive sinus infection. I am not amused!

I d/l'ed the file, and it seems it's missing the elevation details. I ran the .KML file through www.gpsies.com/conver.do and in the "output options" told it to add the elevations, and create a .TCX track at 25mph. I've tried the file in my "lite" version of TTS and it loads, but there's something broken in the Lite install on this machine, and I can't actually check the file. I'll send you a PM with a link to the converted file for you to try if you want :-)

I am so sorry for letting my team down this week. I am still too sick to ride. I'll probably be back in the saddle on Monday. I'm chock full of steroids, antibiotics, and other chemicals. Don't tell WADA...

Don't worry - we've hit pretty much every day so far - 1.25km remaining to be booked for the 11th and under 8km for today, last time I looked.

Actually, it's a strange co-incidence, but on LeTour's rest day, guess how I spent 30 minutes before breakfast... Yep - just like being on Vinokourov's team I was filling a glass sample tube and having a blood sample taken  - not an "out of competition test" btw... it'd be a hell of a long time out of competition (as in 15 years or so!) - just a routine checkup at the Doctor's

Enjoy your rest day mate, speed you've been putting down, you deserve it

As to team 2... well - mixed results really - missed totals for 5 out of the days so far - more holes in the reported mileage than my cycling undershirt has (and it's basically a high-tech string vest!) - honestly people - is it too hard to post "no ride" if you don't ride one day ?? - BUT - on a positive note, the overall KM's booked by team 2 as at my last update is 2797km - which puts you "in the showers" at the end of stage 15...

I'm planning on riding in the Tour De Belleville tonight, and in the Tour de Donut tomorrow. I don't plan on consuming more than three donuts, although they do knock 5 minutes off my time for each donut consumed.

If the weather cooperates, I may extend the Tour De Donut tomorrow, and ride my first century ever.
