Tour De France Challenge - 21 Days in July

Do we have an update on who's wearing what Jerseys in Team 1 and Team 2 at the moment?
Well - I've just had a quick squint at the figures, and, as I said at the start of the challenge - the shirts will only be awarded on VERIFIED RIDES - so - no GPS, no shirt.
King of the Mountain for Team #2 is rider 318, IronmanPanda, with 2036m of ascent (4.85m of ascent per Km ridden), but this is a long way behind Team #1, and Overall KOM at present #301, FatDadSlim who's racked up a frankly scary 7563m (11.14m of ascent per KM)
Green Jersey is being calculated as the fastest AVERAGE speed overall for GPS verified outdoor rides. This time Team #1 have rider #308 in the lead for this competition with an average of 25.89kph but bested by Team #2's rider #316 Cloggsy71, living up to his name, and "giving it some clog" (it's a Yorkshire Phrase....) at an average speed of 31.93kph out on the road. Special mention must be made however of the stunning speeds knocked out on the velodrome by #317, chezmoss - 2 days with average speeds of over 40kph has to be worth a :drinker:
And, so to overall - lead mileage for Team #2 again goes to rider #318, IronmanPanda with 420.22km, including the longest ride overall of 163.41km (plus god only knows how much running and swimming!) but once again, Team #1 have the leader overall with #301 and 678.91km, one of only 2 riders that have booked a ride every day up to Yesterday.0 -

Cheers 'Yin. Good to know. I'm chuffed to bits to be in Green! Awesome effort by Chez with two rides at 40kph average; very impressive!
Let's keep it going!
I'm planning tomorrow's ride now (as I'm watching today's stage of the TdF).0 -
For KOM you might like to replace the quoted 961m with around 400m (the previous average of this route), i dont know why but there are 3 blips on the garmin today which have over doubled the calculated height of todays ride?0

 was it raining by any chance... my 705 goes completely banana's on altitudes when it rains - the barometric altimeter just goes seriously pear shaped. Couple of days ago, it was reading -4% UPHILL on a hill that's got a 1:7 sign at the start of it...
anyway - I'll book it at 410m - that seems to be somewhere near the average of the 39.6km(ish) rides...0 -
Not raining (crikey!) lots of storms around nearby though so funny things going on with atmospheric pressure?0
-
Man this looks like fun, wish I'd seen it earlier! If anybody needs a sub let me know. It is supposed to rain here all weekend, but you never know!0

I pulled a copy of the .TCX file from Garmin Connect and ran it through SportsTracks3 - the program I usually use to log my rides on the computer (rather than on t'internet) and it clearly showed that the altitude was "spiking" at least half a dozen times - maybe only for a second or two at a time, but for maybe 60-70 meters each time - get a few of those on a decent length ride, and it definitely messes up the ride stats.
If I were you, I'd check the back of the unit, there should be a couple of sets of 4 tiny holes in the back of the unit, one on the back, the other on the mounting section - ensure that there's nothing filling these holes (it's easy to get some mud/grit in the holes - especially of either off-road or in the current piss-poor weather we're having...)
(also - maybe have a look at this thread - https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=15543 )0 -
Unfortunately its just been a ridiculously busy week for me and I haven't had a chance to get in any rides. Hopefully next week I'll be able to fit in more than a few.0

Be interested to see how this challenge affects my weight. I've been successfully maintaining between 163>167Lbs for the last few months.
Weight this morning was = 165.6Lbs0 -

I'm obviously not riding hard far and high enough, as I've only gone from 260.8 to 258.4 - so pretty much the same weight loss, but with a hell of a lot more to go at... :grumble:0 -
Only got <5km in today, was planning on taking the kids on the cycle path on my new bike (little one in tow) lovely when i left the house, as soon as we got 10mins away the heavens opened again, turned around and called it a day, logged for continuity ;-)0

Oh dear... what with my taking today as a rest day, and the weather problems, it looks like it's down to the former colonials to pick up the slack...:laugh:0 -

I'm glad I went out earlier on; It's chucking it down now :noway:
Summer 2012 - one to forget!0 -
Hoped to ride a century today, but I got the stomach flu, and spent too much time "running". Lost a lot of water, and kept rehydrating. FInally, the lightening and thunderstorms brought me to a stop at 56.6 miles. I did complete the Tour De Donut thought, in Staunton, Illinois, and didn't eat any donuts. I'll post pictures to FaceBook later, and post a link here. Basically, you get 5 minutes off of your time, on a 33 mile ride, for every donut that you consume in front of the timekeepers. I had trained well for the ride, but not for the donuts. So, I didn't eat any.0

Just had a quick look at the route, it'd have been a good hard ride, without the "stomach problems" mate... I've been there on that front - and spoiled the shorts in the process, big KUDOS for keeping going - now, look after yourself - plenty of rehydration salts and clear fluids, take it easy, and get yourself feeling good again, and don't even THINK about riding the bike until you're "solid" and pee-ing a pale straw colour again. (Sorry to get a little graphic... but sometimes it's easier that way!)0 -
Recovered from the flu; I should get in about 40 miles the next three days. I'm camped out in my RV about 18.5 miles from the office where I'm contracting for the next three days. Nice cool commute this morning; should be about 95 degrees when I leave later today.0

Glad to hear you're feeling better mate.
Just a quick note to everyone - it's another rest day for the tour on the 17th, so again, you're welcome to ride, but the Km's don't count in the challenge...0 -
We made it back home today. My lungs still are not well and I'm still on antibiotics. I'll try to bike or swim tomorrow and see what happens.0

Just take it very, very carefully - better a couple more days off the bike than a relapse or worse...0 -

Seconded; perhaps local roads only (if you ride), so you ain't too far from home, just in case0 -
I was always told by the Dr. "if it's above the neck, it's okay to train on it, if it's below, lay off the bike" tbh...0

Rajiv - stick these in the mileage thread would you - just to keep everything in one place. Cheers.0 -
Thanks for pointing! I got confused and posted the ride details here. I reposted it on the correct thread.0

Got a couple of people's stuff to pick up on strava (they've been riding and logging, but away from computer to post in the thread ) but I'll get something out today.0 -

Okay - quick update time... there's a chart of the GC standings at
http://www.mb-software.co.uk/MFP/MFP-TdF_2012_Restday2_GC.PDF
(yellow is confirmed ride (or non-ride if zero km's) red is unconfirmed ride where gps data unavailable, and white is where I've been unable to get the data in time - in one case the person's out in the backwoods I believe...)
So, a narrow lead on GC still with #301 FatDadSlim.
Other jerseys - Green still resting with #316, Cloggsy71, and the KoM is also firmly on #301 FatDadSlim's shoulders.
It's a shame that Rajiv didn't record his initial rides via gps, otherwise he'd have been in there swinging both yellow and green jersey competitions, but i'm pretty sure I mentioned initially, that ALL rides needed to be verifiable for purposes of the "jersey awards"
Team 1 have now ridden 1.3 times the distance of the entire tour, and have only failed to hit the daily distance one day so far (unless of course the 2 "unreported" riders manage to scrape together 101kms between themselves )
Team 2 have also exceeded the overall race distance by over 8% (if we count in the unverified km's), though they have missed the cut-off distance on a couple of stages.
On a positive note, to the best of my knowledge, nobody has been thrown off OUR challenge for previous "dopage" or unsavoury use of diuretics :laugh:0 -
Thanks for the update, Captain Yin. Nice looking spreadsheet. Thanks for all of your hard work. It's been a fun challenge.0
-
Seconded - Thanks for the update fella!
Still in Green :bigsmile:0
