I am 19.5 weeks and have gained 20 pounds already. The last 8 pounds seems to have come on in less than a week. Starting to feel a little discouraged, since my plan was to gain only 25 pounds the entire pregnancy. I am 5'6, 31 yo, and pre-pregnancy weight was 150, which is right at the top mark of a healthy BMI range for me. Previously, over the past year I have lost 35 pounds, and now I have regained much of that in less than 20 weeks, which seems crazy. My belly is starting to show, but it's not that large, so I am fairly certain that the weight I had gained so far has gone directly to my legs and butt and other unwanted places. During the first trimester, I gained 10 pounds, as eating was the only way to relieve nausea. Also previously I had a very clean diet, with plenty of vegetables and little fat, and now I have definitely been eating more fat and I have a strong aversion to some of my favourite vegetables.
Does anyone have any advice? I know I have to slow down on the weight gain at this point, but I'm also worried that not eating enough might harm the baby.0 -

If the last 8 pounds have come on in the last week or so, I’d contact your doctor. It could be indicative of swelling/fluid retention. A 3-4+ pound increase in one week is grounds for at least investigation!0 -

I had a really hard time gaining weight my first pregnancy, this pregnancy that hasn't been an issue. I'm measuring right on track rather than consistently measuring small which I'm quite happy about.0 -

I am currently 28 weeks pregnant with my second child. I have re-joined MFP as I need to keep track of my calories!! I’ve been over indulging and using pregnancy as an excuse and have gained 2 stone (28lb) so far. I’ve set my calories to 2200 a day and hope this will help me pick better choices and stop me from eating rubbish snacks.

Just came back from a 2-week long trip. One thing I learned after being away: my bed is the most comfortable one and I don’t think I’d like to go on another trip and sleep in another bed unless it’s as comfy as mine! Second trimester is fun but hip pain is no joke...0 -

Plus the loss might also be down to stopping my wine intake, which always added on the calories!0 -

@verykatie this pregnancy has been completely different form my first. I had horrible nausea from week 7-17, so sick all day long, I cried almost every night it was so bad. With my first I only had a bit of nausea form week 7-10. In general this pregnancy is a lot harder, potentially because I am chasing a 2 year old around and never get a chance to rest and only sleep about 5-6 hours a night. Right now I am not enjoying eating at all, constantly feel full, nothing is appealing and I have bad heart burn. I am trying very hard to keep my nutrition up though because I didn't gain enough with my first pregnancy and had a lot of difficulties breast feeding; no milk production. I'm worried about that happening again.0

@fernt21 my second pregnancy so far is pretty similar. If anything I have fewer symptoms... and I didn't have many last time. I dont really feel pregnant. I can't wait to feel baby move. My heartburn seems to be starting early. I dont have much exhaustion like I did last time (or maybe my body is just accustomed to it since I have a 1 year old "running" around). But oh man. I want noodles and croissants so much Haha. My cravings of choice last time were shrimp and apples lol. I hope you have better luck with breastfeeding! Maybe try drinking more milk? I am taking calcium daily and noticed it has helped my milk production more than any of those teas ever did.1

Ob visit this past Monday and baby weighed about 1 kg (45 percentile). Hope she grows steadily and healthy like this!
Side note to that, I’m placed on glucose monitoring (this ob has way stricter standards but it’s for baby’s sake) since late June... So her growth will definitely reflect how well I manage my food choice. Guess it’s a good thing since none of us want baby to grow too big nor having future diabetic concerns.
