Last week I had Monday off from work and decided to hike to the summit of Jack London State Park - and also do some geocaching along the way. It was a gorgeous and warm day, but the mosquitoes were absolutely insane in the shade! Tried my best to do any stopping and resting in the full sunshine - though I definitely got eaten alive anyway, since all the geocaches I was looking for were under the trees.
Got myself up to the summit, and then ran back down to the parking lot... running is so much easier when it's all downhill! :laugh: All in all, 8 miles total.

Saturday we drove over the pass to the eastern side of the hills. We hiked 6.8 miles with an elevation gain of 1884 ft. To Teanaway Ridge. Just a gorgeous day.

Today I took my senior dog for a hike. She's 12 yrs old, and 2 weeks ago, literally almost died. I was loading her up in the truck , when she showed signs of life. She knows I'm not ready to say good bye. Today we hiked 4.5 miles, which was asking too much. However, this is a dog that would do 15 -20 miles in a day, back in the day. Barclay Lake WA.

Sunday I did an amazing hike with my dog. Most people only do one destination or the other but I did both. Mason lake , then climbed Bandera Mountain. I only had a 1/4 of mile to go to the top but I stopped on the saddle. My dog was overheating and I was running low on water. I even had to stop at one point and put snow in his backpack. 8.4 miles and 5921 calorie burn. It was intense

Nice hike! I love the Mason lake part with my dogs. But Bandera is just a bit too much elevation/heat for my dogs when I tried too, they overheated like crazy and I decided to turn back. Snow would help though 0

Hi guys,
I just joined the group.
I have been using MFP for 10 days but I've been doing day hikes for years.
I also do a week long canoe trip in the Adirondacks every spring.
I did a 15 mile hike yesterday in the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness
area of the Adirondacks. I started at the Putnum Pond parking lot,
hiked south around Putnam Pond to the summit of Treadway Mountain
(4 Miles's). I then descended Treadway and hiked north via Rock Pond then
further north to Bear Pond. Did a short bushwhack east of the
Bear Pond beaver dam to pick up Bear Pond Road. Took Bear pond
Road to Route 74 and hiked West to my place on Eagle Lake.
Would love to become MFP friends with any other Adirondack hikers.
I work in NYC and live 90 miles north of the city. We get up to our place
on Eagle Lake in Ticonderoga,NY as much as we can.0 -

Yes it is tough, but I was surprised and pleased I went up and down with no real issues even though my knee recently did act up. I found with poles it wasn't all that bad, that and hiking with some people who kept me going slower that I might have otherwise, all I ended up with is sore muscles, no joint issues that people commonly complain of doing this hike. It was beautiful up there, 360 degree clear views 0 -
We just completed the first 22 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Started at the Nimblewell Access trail to Springer Mountain and went to Woody Gap. Monday afternoon we had a severe thunderstorm complete with hail catch us on Hawk Mountain. I don't have the pictures on my computer to upload but we have some posted on Facebook and will post to our website in the next couple of days. www.lifespilgrims.com0

Over the last few days I've done Angels Landing, The Narrows, Navajo Trail in Bryce and other short jaunts in the SW.
