Thanks! I'm really looking forward to taking it easy this week and letting my hands heal up a bit. The callouses are getting insane!

But I'll put those muscles to practical use and do some hard-core cleaning. :grumble:

Everyone is working so hard; its really inspiring and motivating! I am so glad I found this group!

I met with my trainer (session 2 of 3) bright and early this morning. He still deviated a little from SL, by setting up a squat day and a dead day to alternate. With the added accessory work, he's hoping to help bring up the weight for the main lifts for quite some time. He also wanted to add some more volume for the dead lifts, since I am not squatting on the same day.

Would you guys still allow me to hang out here, lol?:flowerforyou:

Today, I pulled 160x3x5 on deadlifts. I was a little proud, since I last pulled 145x1x5. I brought up the competitions again, after looking at a couple raw sites this weekend, and I must say...I have always kind of wanted to do something like that. Like that one time I wanted to be in a beauty pageant, so I signed up and did it, lol.

He said not only can I compete, with his help, I can win. It could all be a big ploy to get me to buy more sessions, but he said he would be interested in working with me in his off time as he wants to get back into powerlifting competitions. So it sounds like he wants to make me into his pet project or something. What do you guys think?

I think the trainer sounds good if you can afford it. I'd love to work with someone for a while. If the money is a little tight, I'd mention that to him - it sounds like he does want to get back into this and you've just come into his life at a good time for that, so if that's really true I'm sure he'll try to cut you a little bit of a deal.

    Happy Monday Ladies!

This marks the start of week 4 for me and I think the start of some seriously hard work! Stats as of this morning:

Squat 5x5 @ 95# (completed but it was a tough one....I think it's best to repeat this weight next workout!)
    Bench 5x5 @ 49#
    Row 5x5 @ 80#

I have also decided to add in weight glute bridges on Workout A days....I just really "feel" like I want something else for lower body....plus I love that damn exercise lol Abs today was 3 x 12 reverse crunches and 3 x 24 bicycle crunches. I add abs onto every workout I do....I know that I don't "have" to, but I really feel that a strong core is so super important.

Then, to add insult to injury, I added 20 min of interval training on the treadmill. This was totally guilt induced and my *kitten* is screaming at me as we speak for being so unkind lol I don't know how you ladies train cardio after lifting but DAMN! Although I must say that I was also doing my intervals on a varying incline as well so maybe that's why I was on fire lol

Have a great day all :)

(edit to change BP weight....it's at 49# not 47# as I initially typed!)

@Vegas - Great workout! I think you might be smoking crack though to add HIIT after weights. I tried that, once. I will save my cardio for non-weight days, as I feel like it helps relieve some of the DOMS.

@Tameko - I did mention the tight money thing already and that's when he mentioned working on his off time. I guess I could have the money to keep paying for sessions; I would just have to cut back on my online shopping addiction, thank you very much Amazon Prime.

    Today--
    RFESS: 3x8 with a 25 lb plate
    OHP: 3x5 at 56 lbs
Deadlift: 1x5 at 130...almost my bodyweight!!!
Lat pulls: 3x8 at 75 lbs

I was so excited about my 130 DL that I went to some guys that were doing compound lifts and bragged. They were way younger than I and were like, why is this lady talking to us?? But I had to tell someone--I was so stoked!

@a-vettestingr......Yeah, I think you are right...there was definitely something in my bedtime snack last night that made me think HIIT after SL was a clever idea lol Well, the good news is that I learned my lesson!

@extraordinary.....130# is awesome! I did 125 on Friday and felt so super BADASS!!! Way to go!

Hey everyone! I am about to start week 4 of the program! I had started it before and gotten 10 weeks into it, but was sick and wasn't making progress I should have been. I've gotten better and healthier and have started over!

Welcome Saunz5! Good luck on round 2!
  • I just wanted to say hi! I joined the group last night. I'm not going to start SL until around February because I'm finishing up NROLFW (almost done with stage 5!). I haven't really seen the results I was hoping for from NROL so I'm switching it up!

Sometimes I feel that way! However, I have managed to refrain myself long enough to make it home and post it all over MFP, lol!

Making those big lifts feels great!

I felt pretty good about my day yesterday for SL, plus the weights room was packed but I still was able to get on everything with no problem. I've had good luck with that - though I still get a couple funny looks since I'm the only girl in there, but it's always awesome when i see the weights I'm picking up are heavier than some of the guys....awesome feeling!

    squat: 5x5 90#
OHP: 5X5 damn this one is hard....I'm at 40, but think I can finally go up, yesterday was the first time I didn't fail on the last set.
    BP: 5X5 55#

I tend to add in other things, too, especially for the lower body. Yesterday was weighted curtsy lunges - did 2 15lbs, holy crap this seriously killed my butt and still feeling today. Also did some stiff legged deadlifts for my hammies to get them in better shape.

Sidebends, I also always do these - went from 25 lb weighted to 30 lb weighted. My grip is starting to get better too.

I am really starting to tell the difference in my strength, it's such an awesome feeling!!!

    Tuesday's gym achievements:

New Bench Press PB = 43kg, followed by 44kg. Failed at 45kg so definitely know 44kg (97lbs) is my current 1RM. Gone up 2kg since doing Starr's 5x5 intermediate programme for only 2 weeks. Very chuffed.

Achieved a single completely unassisted chin up. Whoop-di-whoop! Very happy although struggled a lot on the final 3 inches to complete the move. Was determined to have a full arm extension on the bottom though :)

New 3RM PB on the squat at 57kg, 125lbs. Pretty happy with that too.

Only goal left before Christmas is a 100kg (220lb) deadlift but arms were mushed after all that pulling on the chin up.

    Today's gym achievements:

    Squat: 5x5 115#
Overhead Press: Got up to 60# and couldn't do it fully so I dropped back to 5x5 45# today.
    Deadlift: 5x5 105#

Moving up on all of them this weekend! :o)

Great work to everyone! We are some BADASS beauties up in here :) I have to wait until Thursday before my next SL workout as I'm away from home for work today and tomorrow :( Going to fill in with some cardio tomorrow morning but it won't be the same!

I had DOMS so badly yesterday that I didn't do anything...not even yoga, which usually helps. I'm going to do yoga today and lift on Thursday, so hopefully my quads and butt won't hurt too badly then. Everyone is kicking serious butt!!

Today! I seriously wish there were more women in the weight room, I never see any other ladies lifting! And if they are, they are doing the 10 lb dumbells. But today I got to use the 25 lb plates for my squat!!! I felt so awesome doing that!!! I love weights....seriously love them! Anyone else feel exhilarated doing this?

    5x5 squat - 95#
    5x5 rows - 65#
    1x5 dl - 115#

Me too! I wish some of you lived closer to me and we could meet once a week at a nearby gym. It would be nice to have another girl in there sometimes. Sometimes I STARE at other ladies in there with their little weights and think "NOOOO COME HERE AND ASK ME HOW YOU CAN DO BARBELL WORK, I WANT A BUDDY!!!"

I actually almost ran over to a girl doing dips the other day on the assistance machine to strike up a conversation but she left before I was done with what I was doing (because I see even fewer girls do dips and chins than I see in the weight room).

Oh yes Darwin!! I feel seriously high when I get to lift weights!! The in between days are a bit of a let down. Today I used my 25 lb weights for the first time!! I'm so excited!!

Squat 65 lb Clean and press (I believe that is the correct term)from the floor so I can't do more yet.)
    OHP 65
    DL 100lb!!

Yesterday was a non lifting day and I was feeling quite lazy so I didn't do anything physical during the day and I also ate closer to what MFP tells me to eat. Only 55 calories over net. I went for a run in the evening. Today I felt ...well a little weak. I had 24 almonds before my early morning workout (I usually only have 12). I got to the OHP and on the second set I could only do 4 reps. So during my 5 min break I scurried upstairs and had some cottage cheese. When I came back down I felt much better and was able to finish all of my reps and sets. The moral of the story is that Tomeko is right. My lifting suffers too if I don't eat enough.

    Big night last night -

    Squat - 110
OHP - stalled at 65 so deadloading next week
DL - 150 - a little more than my bodyweight!!!!!!

I can't believe how strong I feel. I know I can squat more as the 5 sets aren't easy, but I know I can go up the 5 lbs next session. The DL was hard, but I did it!

We are in the same next of the woods on a bunch of our lifts... I did the 25 lb plates for my squat for the first time today too! Was definitely looking forward to it. *high five*

I'm a little worried about my knee though... these past few squats my "bad" knee - meaning, when I carry two children up the stairs at the same time, it sometimes hurts for a few days - has been feeling strained.

I feel very blah about the deadlifts. I love them and one set at full weight is just anti-climactic. I don't see why we don't just do one day squats, one day a full 5 deads.

Tameko, I'm the same way when I see girls doing wee weights at the rec center. I keep staring (not in a creepy way) at them, trying to use my Jedi mind powers to get them to look at me benching 75 pounds...all the way to my boobs, and not using 8 pound dumbbells.

Oh, speaking of benching, a couple of weeks ago, one of the center's personal trainers was doing a group session. She took them though a bunch of different lifts in the free weights section, then had them partner up to go through the circuit. She stayed at a bench so the women could BP the bar. She was only having them lower the bar a few inches, and then go back up! I almost wrote a complaint to the personal trainer head--the trainer clearly has no idea!!

I'm a dork, or overachiever, so yeah both...but I was reading Mendhi's whole thing on deadlifts, and he was saying that if you do the full 5x5 that you plateau sooner, so to avoid that, that's why we do the one rather than the five. That made sense after I read that, cause I could totally see that happening.

It's nice that someone is in the same boat as me with the 25 lb plates, it was so awesome!! I really felt like giggling like a girl and wish I had another one there to be girly about weights with!

Oh man that is SO depressing, why wouldn't she want them to use a full range of motion? That's just ridiculous and sad.

Ugh. I reloaded on squats today to 95 lbs. my quads were still so sore from the other day. I did, however bench 80 lbs.

I think I'm going to watch Rip's video in the hip thrust and stay at 95 for a week or two.

    Second time through workout A

Squat 35lbs (up 5 on last time)
Bench 25lbs (had to deload from 30 to 20 after 2 sets last time)
    Row 35lbs (too light)

Squats - so much easier when you push your knees out and engage the inner thighs!! :D
