What I did right today

I went for a 4 mile walk, early in the morning, 7AM. It was very cold, my eyes were tearing, my gloved hands freezing and my nose was probably red. I live deep in the country side and the only person I passed was the milkman doing his rounds. I saw two robins chattering in a hedge, many crows pecking in the fields, heard several cockerals competing woth each other, watched the sky turn from pink to orange to pearly grey and poked my boot into puddles to break the ice. By the time I got back home my overriding thought was "Why haven't I done this before?". I'm going to do it as often as I can now. its the best, most 'right' thing I've done for ages!0

I walked for an hour this morning before the rain came back. Cosying up by the fire now .....about to try to fit a few bluesy chords to a song that seemed to pop it's way into my head during the night.......

Seamoth, sounds lovely. I started getting up early and walking when I first did WW in the late 80's. I have loved that time of day ever since and it is so worth the effort to get out of bed. I hope to be living a lifestyle soon where it is an option again for me.
What I did right so far:
Scrubbed the kithen floor and cabinets, exercise and the kitchen look very nice now.
Have the champers chilled for tonight. Hubby and I will have a nice at home dinner with that, and of course, some excellent dark chocolate.
Sorted out my shoes they had just become a jumble couldn't find mates!
Had a nice leasurely breakfast, read for a while sipping coffee. Felt pampered doing that will have to do it more often.

I must try to get out of bed a little earlier...the walk and the reading while sipping coffee sound like something I would love to start my day with......

I didn’t do my aerobics today, but did take my Bride to her cataract post op appointment (she sees 20/16 out of that eye now). We also booked a 15 day Danube, Main, Rhine river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam for next year. I then had a delicious crab sandwich made with cream cheese (figured into my calories for the day.)0

Wow that sounds like an awesome day! I had friends who did that cruise recently they loved it, I'm sure you will too.

Tracking cals
Fixed a leak in the kitchen so no more water under the sink.
Got onto the site to read success stories and catch up with my pals here.

Picked up my MIL (87) and took her to her sister's (90) to visit. Bought her sister a shower chair and adjusted it for her height.0

I wlaked to my coffee shop this morning and realised what a lovely day it is...sunshine at last! So I went back out and did a 5 mile run...my longest distance! Now eating a banana, an apple and a few almonds...so all good so far today! :bigsmile:

Jean, sunshine is in short supply around here lately. But we are supposed to get some this afternoon, so hubby and I are planning a nice long walk. I have had cabin fever lately so cold and snowy. But we are finally getting our thaw, have to go out and celebrate that.0 -
You will love the river cruise. We took the Budapest to Amsterdam trip on Uniworld two years ago, and also the one from Paris to Normandy. They are so amazing that we have one scheduled on the Douro River in Portugal this Spring. Just watch that food. It is so good and fresh (especially the breads) that temptation is rampant. Lots of walking, and I still gained weight. This time will be different because I will log with MFP!

After a mad weekend away helping a friend celebrate her birthday I am back and raring to go! A good walk this morning and then a day doing housework and ironing........ feeling very positive foodwise too ... and it's been a lovely sunny day here....even opened windows....perfect day to lift the spirits! :bigsmile:

I did my 20 minutes on my stationary bike this morning. I have a sewing project to finish up so I'm trying to get that out of the way (it's dragging on too long).
We're having dinner out tonight (Going to an Eagles concert, woohoo) and lunch will be leftover lentil-rice soup. It turned out reallllly good. Or maybe I was just REAALLLY hungry when I made it. ha.
I'm laughing looking at everyone else's weight ticker... so many of you have 4 lbs to go and I haven't even LOST 4 lbs yet.

I just did 25 minutes on my stationary bike.
Now. I am HUNGRY because I'm sticking to my food plan and I need to go eat before I do something like dive headfirst into a bag of potato chips.

I've been going for my early morning walk each day now for the last week. You'd think that because its the same route each time it would get boring. Not a bit. My walk takes me first past fields where horses (in their winter blankets) trot up to the hedges as I pass and allow me to tickle their noses. Then through a small wood where snowdrops are out in force amongst daffodils waiting to open their still folded buds, -each time I see them I throw them words of encouragement (yeah, quite mad, but no one around to hear!). Then past the muddy brown pig fields, empty now, but soon to be full of grunting sows and happy piglets. This is where the cold wind blows straight into my face and makes my eyes water. Then through a tiny hamlet where I am now on stroking acquaintance with two red springer spaniels who come bounding up to greet me, then streak back to wherever they have come from. Last half mile of this 3.5 mile walk is through fields bordered by high banks, now bright with yellow and purple crocuses. Then I'm back in my village, and at my window my cat sits waiting to welcome me home. Not a bad way to lose some calories ????0

@seamoth - may be just a walk for some, but you have made it a beautiful & rewarding adventure. Thank you for sharing & taking me, at least in my own mind, on the walk with you.

seamoth, that walk sounds beautiful. I so wish I could take one like that. I am going to be happy just to hopefully get back to my mile once the hip heals and I am able to walk again.0

What I am doing right:
- After adjusting my goal (TDEE-20%) I am staying under goal almost daily which is good. I have not been doing any exercise in this awful weather we are having. There was a 104 car crash near downtown Denver on I 25, the black ice caused it and one lady was even killed in that mess. It is truly awful around here lately.
- Have cooked up some grab it, its good for you foods for my next round of 12.5 hr work shifts that start tomorrow.
- Listened to my motivational CD as I fell asleep last night, they do help me stay on track I should listen to one every night.
- Started taking my fishoil and other supplements again.
Seamoth, The 3.5 mile walk sounded lovely, if a tad cold. Must be very different than your walks in So. Africa.

LOL, re the Eagles concert... you're right, I did burn a few calories. And even though I splurged on a tiny dessert with the dinner,
I was very good with the rest of the meal.
Today it's warm; I did 25 minutes on the stationary bike this am and took a nice stroll outside this afternoon..
But.
I AM HUNGRY.

I decided not to weigh myself this morning! This was The Right Thing To Do. For me. I felt good when I woke up, had slept well for the first time for ages, the weather looked OK for another walk later on. I knew if I weighed myself and hadn't lost at least a pound since last weigh in, I would feel sad and start beating myself up. So here I am......ignorant but happy. I'll weigh in tomorrow????0

For the first time, I actually came very close to my calorie intake goal., but didn't eat the exercise calories back. I was raised on the concept of to lose weight you had to starve yourself, but after reading so many articles on here, realized that I just had to get the calories up, especially if I'm actually going to add exercise to my routine. It's HARD to find healthy things to eat to fill out the missing 300 calories a day that don't blow the carbs or fat out of the water, but I'm trying.
Pre change of eating lifestyle, I was a sweets and chips snacker, emphasis on chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate. Daily. Have now gone almost a week with no candy/cheetos/pastries etc. May not seem like much, but for me that's huge LOL0 -

I have a bit of a sniffle at the moment so just did my basic walk and no run today....but a nice afternoon out in the countryside with a little extra walk .... hot chocolate with marshmallow and cream was delightful, if rather extravagant caloriewise...... a beautiful day again here in the North of England

I feel your pain re: chocolate. I am a chocoholic. :sad:
There was a time years ago, when my children were small, when it was a PHYSICAL craving... it was so painful that like some sort of illegal substance abuser, I hid stashes of chocolate and panicked if I ran out.
Then I read an article about taking magnesium to help curb and STOP the craving for sweets--especially chocolate.
Apparently chocolate contains beneficial minerals ( ! oh joy) but if you're lacking the minerals in your diet...you crave chocolate in the worst way. (Oddly, I have never met anyone who craves things like.. celery, beets, kale or other nutritious foods) :laugh:
Well. I was desperate. So. I bought magnesium tablets. Plain magnesium, not the Calcium/ Magnesium ones. And I started taking several a day; like one with every meal.
Guess what. It was like MAGIC. The urgent cravings stopped.
Now, I'm not a doctor, and you might want to check with your doctor before you do this. But I'm saying that it worked for me (this was over 30 years ago) and I still take it. And when, for some reason I realize that I'm starting to eye that unopened bag of chocolate chips with lustful yearnings.... I up my magnesium dosage for a few days.
Yeah, I still love chocolate. But the desperate, urgent, painful cravings are gone.
They say it takes only a few days to develop a bad habit, longer to break a bad habit... but 2 weeks to develop a good habit.
So. Stick with it. One day at a time.
I'm still working on it.

What I did right today. Well. I plucked up the courage to weigh myself and got a lovely shock. 2.5lbs loss in seven days! It must be all the walking because I've been over my 1200 cal goal nearly every day, though not TOO far over.0

I have been taking magnesium for a while but I have a can of chocolate salted caramel macadamia clusters on the shelf that I keep eyeing, and I don’t think the magnesium is helping me there. But then, maybe it is since I haven’t succumbed to them.

Congratulations on the weight loss. I find it more difficult to lose when I am not exercising. I know that you have to burn 3500 calories to lose a pound, but I think exercising regularly gives you more discipline to avoid the extra food calories.
