@May Yes, quite the adventure! It seems that to actually achieve losing weight is like being able to waltz on the head of a pin. Has to be exactly right or it doesn't happen. Not seeing my calories is a little scary-- are they too little or too much?? :s I guess if MFP doesn't scream at me it's not too far off...I just want to have a new loss; haven't had one for a while.

LOL at waltzing on the head of a pin. That is how it felt for me the first few days. I do hope you're settling in and starting to feel confident with it. I have my 2 usual meals, and my coconut milk in coffee. I do track the 3 macros for those - just viewing, trying not to manipulate them too much. On days when David's home for the evening I have less control over what foods we eat for our second meal. If he's at work I do my usual mix in a bowl of chopped up and stirred stuff to truly fit my macros well for the day. The mix is some or all of... boiled eggs, salami or pepperoni or cooked bacon, sour cream, cheese (usually the really sharp Mersey Valley), butter and a sprinkle of dulse flakes for their health benefits (you can barely taste them).

After my meals I expect not to be hungry. If I do get genuinely hungry later in the evening I will just have literally one or two macadamias or something. *Just* enough to take the hunger away. And I guess it's working... I was down yet another 200 grams today. This is reaching the bounds of fiction o:) I seem to be losing weight like a younger person. I am faaarrr from grumbling I can tell you! I truly hope the same happens to you Ellen!

And where on earth is the thread for us to report our first week's progress? I spent all of yesterday looking and still can't see one today. Goat closed off the prior 2 threads but hasn't opened another which seems very unlike his usual organised self.

Well... Whoever posts next will be the 333rd post in this thread. I'm so pleased that it has been so popular with everyone and hope we continue to share and support here. Happy Thursday everyone! <3

@May-- Happy Thursday to you! I am feeling more confident with it, but am still in a holding pattern. Up and down within the same 1.5 lb. If anyone notices anything about what I'm doing that's 'off,' let me know please! I like the idea of your 'mixed bowl' dinner. That would fill in nicely when my husband and son are having something that's out of bounds for me.

My body must love being fat and doesn't want to give it up, but one of these days (I dearly hope) it will know I mean business and will start dropping weight again. I'm not giving in. It's inspiring to read about the success of so many people in this group who are losing/have lost weight and have improved health. I can't wait to have my own success story.

    Hello ladies,

I haven't wanted to post much lately as I've been a real grouch! Everyone here is usually so upbeat I didn't want to drag y'all down. But today is a gonna be a great day as it is my last 'treatment' = torture!!! I cannot tell you how glad I am to have this over with. Even if they end up cutting off a piece of my hide I will be ever so grateful to be done with this phase of things.

Ms May I so glad you are seeing a downward trend. Hopefully I'll get there too once this stress is removed from my life. Did you find the thread for the challenge? I"m doing okay so far, it's really kinda freeing not to even think about food/eating all day.

Ms Ellen I love the waltzing on a pin. So true. I think for some of us we are dancing on the wrong end of that pin more often than not!!

I WILL BE MORE POSITIVE!!! ug, maybe if I say it enough I'll get there......I hate to be a debbie downer.

Hope you ladies have a great day.

I am finally losing weight to the point that I KNOW without a doubt that it's going! This low carb lifestyle is what my body needs, and I love it! No hunger! I have to make myself eat when I realize I haven't met my daily goals! Never eaten this way before and I guess that's why I dieted my way to 318 pounds!

Well, this is frustrating. I had great progress and then last night couldn't sleep because of leg / foot cramps...Woke up exhausted and sore, and 4 lbs heavier. What the...heck.
I eat mostly the same things every day and rarely introduce new foods.
I'm going to guess it's water weight and stress because I did get up and drink some water when my legs decided to cramp up on me. >_>
    I hope.

@RATSMITH69 --Congrats on your last treatment today! I'm sure that's such a huge relief. Don't you worry; we all know what it is to feel grouchy. Come on by anyway, and we're here to cheer you up! I hope things start looking up for you soon...

@Karlottap--Good for you! It's a great thing when you find the thing that makes your body work as it should. Don't you just love not being hungry all the time? I do too!

@Teneko---Well, it sure is frustrating! Sure sounds like you're right about it being water and stress. Amazing what that can do to the body. Is your magnesium level good? You might want to bump it up a little. It really helps those cramps. Take care!

    Have a great evening, all!

I have been having a teaspoon of magnesium at night for the past week and it was helping...but not last night. Going to bump it to 1.5 teaspoons tonight. Crossing my fingers.

Welcome! Go to the top of the forum page where it says "START here! The LCD Launch Pad" and read everything there. Lots of great information and a great place to start.

I just had blood work done today after having elevated cholesterol and blood sugar numbers in January. My doctor's office just called, and my numbers are WAY down! I just started eating LCHF a month ago, and you can be sure I'll never stop. You're doing the right thing for your health!

OK ladies....I must confess to you, that this hasn't been a good week for me. I thought I had Easter under control, and I know that I did way better than ever before, in terms of staying away from treats this Easter. And I sent most of the carby leftovers home with my guests. Hurray for me. But I had to have a fancy centrepiece so I went to our local artisan chocolatier before Easter ..... https://www.facebook.com/poppchocolates ....and bought a lovely solid duck that had a golden sheen and had laid 6 small golden eggs. If I was going to allow chocolate in my house, I wanted real chocolate and not some crappy sugary waxy things. I hadn't quite thought the whole process through though. In my imagination, I dreamt that the beautiful centrepiece would grace my table and not be eaten. I did eat one little egg on Easter, but hadn't thought about what might become of the little mother duck.....

Meanwhile, I had entered into a workplace weight loss challenge, sadly named " Biggest Loser", with a few other participants. We started early in January, but I squandered that whole month by not really committing to my plan, so I didn't really get going until February. I did pretty well through March, as I picked up speed. But then came Easter. I suspect after having been on a roll with keto, that as soon as I ate a bit of sugar in the chocolate, along with some salted nuts....and a glass of red wine....my body shut the door on weight loss and my weight went up. Oh no, I fear I've blown it with the work challenge now. Especially since the mother duck has suffered a misfortune......I decapitated her, and ate first her head, then her neck, and then some of her body before my daughter wrapped her up and took her away....Our weigh-out was after Easter......

No idea how the weigh-out at work will end up. I have to look on the bright side......no young ducky's life was spared in vain...she was delicious. But most importantly, even if my weight loss is now stalled, I still have lost 20 pounds since the beginning of the challenge. I'm just waiting for all the others to get weighed, so we can find out who has lost the most weight. Winner takes home the money collected.

I've also been suffering from bad headaches this week. At first I thought it might be from eating sugar, and then I thought it was due to my inner ear disorder which gives me horrible headaches similar to migraines, along with dizziness and nausea. I hate taking pain killers, but was popping 4 Advils at a time while at work, just trying to manage. My work takes a lot of focusing on details, and I was getting sea sick and hoping not to be sick. But it turns out that one of the vertabrae in my neck was out of place. I had my chiropractor adjust me last night, and today it is a little better, but suspect I will need another adjustment before I feel right again.

I am having one glass of red wine while I type this............and then back to basics tomorrow. Wish me luck ladies.

Hello every beautiful lady here <3 I've read every post since my last one with empathy, joy or sadness (as appropriate). I love that you're all sharing your stories here and I love the gentle friendship that we all have.
I'm so happy for your last treatment @Rebecca, and hope those positive results come soon.
    Awesome work @Karlottap.
Welcome @IWTBFCIN3, and that was excellent advice that wheatlessgirl gave you. Ask if you have any more questions though!
    Hi @Teneko and @happylifex10
And @Ellen - oh wow! That's amazing to have results to show after only a month LC *happy dance*!

I'm up this morning, but I didn't sleep much last night and that'll often reflect in a gain. My weekly tape measure session shows that I've lost 1 cm in my waist (a new low measurement), and my belly has remained at the same lowest measurement I achieved a week ago. It all heads slowly towards achievement in the end. Sometimes it's slow because our bodies are working on healing our internal problems, or things that it deems most important. For those who don't know, our initial fat losses come from our liver because fatty livers are very dangerous to our health. Our bodies are wise. Sometimes we need to relax into trusting, even though (me too!) we're so desperate to see the scales and measures reduce. Ellen (@wheatlessgirl66) is a lovely example that our bodies are healing even if the bathroom scales aren't saying things we want them to.

Something else I've noticed is that I occasionally get mild junk food cravings and I am absolutely positive that this is my body clearing fat that was stored from those things. I think it releases chemicals from those into my blood stream which reminds me, at a cellular level, of those foods and then I crave them. Truth is, if I ride that feeling through, I'll be rid of those negative ingredients on my body's health as soon as they're processed out.

Have a great weekend everyone! Love to you all <3

What an interesting theory about the fat cells, what they were created from, and the cravings they produce as they are metabolized @GrannyMayOz! It would be cool to see some actual research on that. I haven't thought of it that way, but completely agree!

Hello everyone, quick note. Enjoying the visits with family but my back has gotten worse. Incapacitating on some days/nights, getting very little sleep. Went to the local urgent care yesterday. Got xrays-disks/vertebrae look fine so he put me on steroids and a new muscle relaxant. His wife has identical symptoms when she overdoes it at gardening so he was sympathetic! Am just eating moderately-can't do the fasting with all the meds but staying low carb. Good news, even with traveling and eating out more than usual, and more wine etc weight is doing good, the bounces up and down are centering around a lower number so I know I'm on track!
Hope all is well, I will try to catch up on the thread. Have a good weekend!

@Karlottap I'm not sure if I dreamt that up all by myself or if I read it somewhere, but it makes sense to me.

@sbom Oh no, I'm so very sorry to hear that your back is being so unco-operative :( I hope it's not ruining your trip. Happy though that you found a doctor who takes it seriously and is helping you. Also really happy to hear that you are earning new weight loss, bouncy or not. Well done!

Good morning everyone. After all my recent whining I'm thrilled to say I'm down 2 brand new pounds this morning! You were so right when you said my body and the process were working and I should trust it. Let this be a lesson to me!! :) And I hope it encourages others who are waiting for a loss. With great blood work results yesterday and a big overnight loss, I know my body is healing itself and will continue to do so. I am so, so glad I found out about this way of eating and this encouraging, supportive group of fellow low carbers!

@sbom Ouch. I'm so sorry for your increased back pain. Glad the doctor gave meds to help. Yay for you for continuing to do well with weight/eating! That's a major feat on an extended trip. Hope you're having a great time!

@wheatlessgirl66 I can remember many diets through the years that I just gave up, because I allowed myself to get discouraged when the scale stopped moving. Then I wouldn't even get on the darn thing and that always lead to disaster. I'm so glad I found this woe too! Understanding how the loss works and staying the course when the scale decided not to move is a lesson learned for me!

I love the imagery of this thought. What a therapeutic way of looking at this. It kind of reminds me of some of the teachings of my meditation coach, in that we were taught to take note of the various ways our bodies felt and the various thoughts that entered our minds, and to observe them from a distance, not allowing ourselves to get caught up in it in an emotional way....but to observe without judgment. Hhmm. Very interesting to me to think that this craving might have served a purpose in "healing."

Also in keeping with that, might be the thought that somebody said, not sure who, I'm sorry.....but that if there might not be a weight loss evident one week, or two.... the body might have other work to do in healing itself. Because that's what it's all about, the healing. I know am at fault for wanting the weight to come off quicker.....but I also want my body and mind to be transformed and healed forever, and that will take time.

@Karlotta I've done the same thing out of sheer frustration. I'm glad I'm finally understanding more of how our bodies react to the food we eat. It's absolutely crazy that it's taken me so long when I've been trying to get it right for so many years. But finally, here we all are in this together. :)

@May I bet you have it right about our food cravings trying to lure us in again. Ain't gonna happen! I love your theory, you wise woman, you! :)

@Kitnthecat I think I've been experiencing the "other work" done while waiting to drop weight. That long pause didn't mean nothing was happening. I have to trust the process and let it take the time it needs. Got it. :)

    @Risi I agree!!! <3

Hey, that's not such a weird theory! I totally thought that, too. I have had YEARS of eating differently all stored in my body fat. There's bound to be SOMETHING released through my system as that stuff loosens up and burns out. Fiance and I both mused about that possibility when I first started the diet.

Good news: Upping my magnesium to 1.5 teaspoons last night seems to have helped.
Also my weight's gone back down a smidgen. Hopefully it was just...water weight.

Regarding the "Biggest Loser" contest - we just had one at work, too. Yes, what an unfortunate name. Grrr. The final weigh-in snuck up on me as well and hit RIGHT when I had that "weight gain"! :(
    Oh well.
I didn't win it or even get in the top 5. The lady I gave diet tips to ended up winning it. Hah! I told her I recognized I was probably sabotaging my own chances, but really felt she needed help for her health's sake. I couldn't just sit by and let her get sick. I did at least get in the top percentile lost and so I have a consolation prize of like $10 I think to pick up.

I'm really glad that my thoughts helped you all, and it's great that you were thinking the same @Teneko.

Congrats @Teneko on the weight loss prize. Sucks that you had a gain at the wrong moment but yes, if it helped the other lady that really needs it. That's lovely of you!

    <3@RisiM and everyone <3

I've been out for lunch today. Had grilled fish and 4 king prawns on a bed of cauliflower cheese instead of the mashed potato they offered. It was very nice. I had a cup of tea as 'dessert/sweets' while one of our party had a massive bowl of 'sugar' and felt good. Way too little fat though, and couldn't ask for butter because I didn't want my dinner friends to know what I'm up to ;) I'll just eat a fatty dinner.

No weight loss for 2 days now but it was a good run of losses and I hope to do it again soon o:)

@May Your lunch sounds delicious! That's a good menu idea to make at home--I love cheesy cauliflower! This is such a good way to eat.

I am so sure you'll be getting more losses soon. You're doing great with eating and exercise, and you're body is doing it's part, too. I jumped back up 2 lbs this morning, but I'm not worried. The old body has work to do, and it'll come down again.

    @Risi I hope you're feeling better today!

Hello ladies. Sooo happy to find this little sub group! I was despairing of finding any support for those of us of more 'mature' years! Lol. I have done low carb for varying periods over the last 12-13 years and always with results....until now! Arrgghhh. The last time was a couple of years ago and obviously since then my body has settled into its current stubborn state! Now I am going down the keto path.
I'm 58 and 215lbs and I seem to see the same number every day on the scales....a little down...a little up!Its been 9 days using MFP but about a month before that and only 3 lbs down.
As its now 4.45am I was intrigued to see the posts about bad nights not helping....oh dear! I often have nights when i cant sleep......dont even want to think about the scales later on!
Thank you all for being on here and supporting each other. Its been a real pleasure to read everything and think I can be a part of that and celebrate our successes and support those down times.

@Ellen, yes, cauliflower cheese or eggs mornay have to be my absolute favourite things to eat. Even moreso now the sweet addictions are gone from my life. Hearty congratulations on your weight losses since hiding your calories, I'm so thrilled for you! Hoping the little jump of 2 lbs has gone away again today.

@jumanajane Welcome to this thread. I'm so happy that you found us and please, jump right in and share your achievements and frustrations. It's safe here, and you're amongst friends who understand. A magnesium supplement before bed may help your sleep and yes, short nights and/or bad sleep certainly don't help with weight loss. My weight increased by 300 grams after a short night, stayed the same after another short night and then the 300 grams 'miraculously disappeared' again after a good night last night. Have you used low carb in the past just to lose weight, and then returned to normal patterns after getting to goal? You're the first mature woman I've met here who has used low carb for so long.

I'm back down to my lowest-so-far weight of 83.3 kgs after a good night's sleep. Pleased with that.

Nothing much more to report except that there's a mild dread underlying my life at the moment. My Mother-in-Law was taken to hospital during the night and we're not sure if she'll be coming home, if you understand me. She's T2 diabetic with blood pressure complications (varies crazily from high to low) but in advanced stages of alzheimers too. She barely eats 3 bites of food a day so her diabetes is all over the place and she's been so weak for a while now. The end is surely nigh, and it's been like waiting for a hammer to fall. My F-i-L has been caring for her, their home and garden all these years and is going to be entirely lost after she's gone. There are very few friends left. In their younger years they were *surrounded* by huge numbers them - all Enid's - but they've died or drifted away and Albert will have no-one except his 2 children and myself when Enid goes. And a massive gaping hole in his life from the tender care he has been giving for Enid's every need these past 10 years. Oh well. Not needing sympathy or anything, just feeling better for 'getting it out' IYKWIM.

@grannymayoz Thanks! The 2 lbs are still with me this morning; I'll probably have to work a while to get rid of them permanently. About missing sleep, do you think we can fool our bodies if we just lie there in bed instead of getting up? I usually give it an hour or so to see if I can fall back to sleep, but then get up if I can't. Sometimes the cause is pain, which complicates things more.

So sorry about your MIL and what it means for your FIL. We went through that with my in-laws, and it's very difficult.

Yay for being at your lowest weight! Moving steadily in the right direction; this thing seems to be working well for you, too. It'll be nice to get to the point of not having to keep track of anything. I don't enjoy that part, at all. But I know if I'd go my merry way at this point--or maybe, ever--disaster would be in my path!

@jumanajane Welcome to our merry little band of ladies who have to fight hard for every ounce/gram of weight loss! This way of eating makes it possible, but still doesn't make it easy. This is a good place for cheering each other on.
