I gave up the artificial sweetners, as recommended by posters on MFP and Ive now lost that weight and broken through the plateau.
Ok, I think I have all the encouragement here to cut them!! I was drinking about 3 diet sodas per day. I will switch to Truvia (sparingly) in my tea and only have Mio once daily in my Ketoade. Does that sound like a good plan?!
Have you tried liquid stevia...and that sounds awesome.0 -

Yes! Just tried it this am in my coffee to cut back on the caramel 0 sugar (20 cals, 1 carb) creamer. But for flavour for my Ketoade to cover the salty taste I would need Mio I think.. it is liquid1 -
Just curious to know if you all think liquid sweeteners are as detrimental (to some people I suppose) to weight loss or just diet soda? Are you guys cutting all artificial sweeteners or just diet soda?0

For my personal trial, I quit drinking soda to eliminate artificial sweeteners. I still use water enhancers made with stevia. Mio has a couple flavors. Walmart (Great Value) has 1 that I've found. The brand "Stur", available in most grocery stores is sweetenened with stevia.2

Thank you! I will do the same! I have a few flavours of Mio and plain stevia but use Mio in my Ketoade. I'll have to look out for the flavours that are specially sweetened with just stevia and for Stur.0 -
For now I am just quitting the artificial sweeteners in my drinks like Coke Zero and Crystal Lite. I have a feeling I am going to have to go further than that because I use sugar free coffee creamer every morning too, but I'll wait another week and see. Great job everyone!1

The only 2 Mio I have found are Black Raspberry and Tropical Cherry. They are both the Mio/ Vitamins. There are so many Mio flavors maybe having the two names will help in finding it. It is the side of the bottle that reads "Naturally Sweetened with Stevia Leaf Extract" in large enough print to see without sorting through the other ingredients on the back.0 -
No soda over the weekend for me. Plenty of wine though1

My understanding - and I'm not a nutritionist -is that it didn't matter what kind of artificial sweetners you use.
If it tastes sweet it triggers a release of insulin just as if it were sugar, and this causes the body to store whatever it next gets hold of, as fat.
In a way this makes sense. Taste is just your tongue telling you what is in your food and getting your body ready to digest it.
I never believed it till I tried it, and its probably not going to work for everyone, but it's worth a try.
Good luck.

I hear ya. I don't know about insulin responses and such but to me, sweet is sweet in regards to taste. If I were concerned about the sweeteness of water enhancers causing cravings for other sweet things, then I would have to opt for no stevia. It seems there are a few reasons folks opt to not use various sweeteners: reduce use of chemicals, insulin responses and/or reduce cravings. Probably other reasons too.0 -
Ok, so if diet soda possibly stalls, and I read even brewed tea has hidden carbs, not to mention the sweeteners we add to it. As well as the crystal light packets etc to water, what do you guys drink to stay satisfied?0
-
I drink coffee, tea, water, LaCroix or similar and I use stevia sometimes in my evening coffee and tea. I don't use it while I'm fasting though.
There's also Zevia soda. I don't drink it because I'm so used to not having much sweetness that it's just too sweet for me and I don't enjoy it.0 -
The no Diet Coke thing for me is not even about the sweeteners that may or may not stall weight loss - it is the ingredients added to make Coke - they can't be healthy. For me not drinking Diet Coke is not so much about weight loss as it is giving up something that I am addicted to AND that is probably unhealthy. I am not a nutritionist either but when has anyone ever heard "And be sure to add a Coke to that healthy diet!"1

I ordered my monthly diet soda for dinner last night...and the waiter kept bringing them out to me before I could stop him. I think I had 3
It felt like such a treat and I was proud of myself for not ordering wine or a cocktail before dinner. I'm trying to get in the habit of having a cup of herbal tea in the evening...it's not my favorite thing, but I can't have coffee or I'll be up all night.1 -
I drink diet soda. It is just not my only source of fluid intake these days, @xosummerrainxo. I drink lots of plain no added anything water ice cold. I really like the flavored fizzy water from Wal Mart too. It's crazy cheap, not too sweet and tasty. Of course most mornings I have 6-8 cups of BPC. For me, though, I have to watch very carefully because I know that I could go from what I just said to drinking a case of Pepsi Zero a day and then I'd be right back where I was before - completely stuck on them and stalling and getting sicker by the 12 ounce because that's all I'm drinking.
I agree with you @BaconSan2. I feel that the Coke Zero back in the day was exactly the reason I had so many health issues - when I stopped drinking it I felt better. I know, without a doubt I need to stop again, but now is simply not the time as I continue to adjust to this WOE. I'd go crazy if I went cold turkey on everything2 -
RowdysLady - there is a right time for everything I agree! I managed not to think too much about food this week because I have started playing online blackjack - I hope an old addiction won't give way to a new one LOL - so far this week I am WAY up & the first play 50 I lose I make myself close the application & go and do housework.0

@BaconSan2 ooohhhh Blackjack....I was never much a gambler - that is to go into a casino. But not because I don't love games of chance and skill but because the casino environment is not appealing to me. However...online blackjack....that's something I could get into. I used to play tons of Spades and Gin online. My work could really suffer... *stop thinking about cards online, Donna*1
