Thanks for the kind words, Magic. And for the link for the turkey/spaghetti squash recipe. I'll probably try it this Friday.
VK--one of the things I like about the Fooducate app is when you scan the bar code of some food, it will rate how healthy the food is and will explain the rating (what's good, what's bad). It will also give you alternatives, so, for example, if you look up some food and the rating is not so good, it will give you alternatives that might be healthier.2 -
Ok you guys...I just finished my slow cooking spaghetti squash turkey meat mixture. It was soooooooooo good...I am sad it is gone. Will make it again on Friday night. I work all day on Saturday...it will be a good take along to microwave.
The portabella mushrooms...important...nice chunks to make it meatier...you don't need that much meat...if you wish, you can make it all veggie. I would also add chopped carrots..I think it would be a nice addition.
I did not put it over rice, but sprinkles freshly grated parm/reg and heated it in microwave to get it nice and melted. If you wanted you could use part skim mozza...that would be fun.
I rarely come up with good recipes. This is a good recipe. And since it is not a casserole kinda deal...it's very SB and good for us. Yay!1 -
Up, having coffee...finished my slow cooker meals last night.
green smoothie
light babybels, almonds
killer dave sammy
yogurt
may try a Panera Salad...no dinner planned
yogurt
I live in the desert ... I am ready for the heat to leave. It will be so nice when it is not so hot after work so I can walk my little Ernestine and also go swimming. I just recently moved into my own home...three community pools (one about 50 yards from my back patio) and two at the clubhouses. Cooler temps can't get here soon enough so I can rev up my exercise.
Have a good day everyone.1 -
They're pretty tasty!
https://www.panerabread.com/en-us/menu-categories/salads.html
my favorite is seasonal greens + chicken
But any of them minus the croutons or tortilla chips would be awesome.
I've been having them a bit more because they deliver to my work. whoot!2 -
I rarely and I mean rarely eat out. I can't remember the last time I ordered out or went to a restaurant. So today is the day. Going for a Panera Salad. Thanks a bunch!1

Good morning ,
that would have been a great dinner. I didn't even have time to worry about food with running the meeting. so i was worried for nothing.
Just ate some the pork from the crockpot before i left. Dog got prayed by a skunk last night so that took up all my spare time.
the scale is reading 5lbs less than when i started Monday. I think that shows just how badly i was eating before.
having breakfast veggie egg scramble
i haven't planned out other meals yet.
i did have the SB headache this morning, so the withdrawal has started!1 -
Just saw all the chats. The desert, yikes. i"m in Ohio, so no extreme weather here, just the change of seasons.
I need to add in exercise.
Sabine, where are you?0 -

The weekend was a bit goofy. A bit of a high school reunion, so eating "right" was kind of out the window.
But, I bought a HUGE costco salad, and some supplies, and I'm ready for the week!
I'll be making some more low carb tortilla burritos today for the work week lunches as well.0 -
Made it. Not that difficult...but just as I was leaving at 8, got a text from weekend girl asking if I would take her Sunday Shift. NO WAY.

So, I really liked having the salad yesterday...will have it again today. Also, I thought I could give up popcorn, but I can't. However, I am measuring it ...40 grams unpopped which is quite a bit less than what I had been having. I really need to find a balance of what I can do to lose weight and also be happy in doing it. And not do something I cannot stick with for the long run.
Some of these diets are so crazy restrictive that I would lose my mind, looking at the options.
Today's plan:
green smoothie (pineapple, banana, spinach, water)
light baby bels
spaghetti squash mixture with small amount freshly gated parm/reg
yogurt
panera salad Fuji Apple chicken
yogurt and popcorn
I am leaning towards a very plant based diet. Comments and suggestions welcomed.
I feel great this morning. All the fiber from yesterday...well, I feel great...let's just leave it at that.
Have a great day everyone.0 -

I took the spaghetti squash out with 40 min to go. (I had it set on 4 hours high) Let cool and then shred. I have kept it separate from the meat mixture. That way it did not get soggy. I like a tiny bit of crunch in mine.
When I cut it, I did not cut across the stem. I kind of punctured it and got my knife in there and wedged it down a bit. I actually thought it was easier than I had anticipated.
You can cook the squash in the microwave...when I do that, I always end up with a mush product.
Glad they liked the turkey mixture.0 -
Hi ladies,
i'm back after the long weekend. I did well. No carbs. I have almost caved - i really want my swiss mocha drink at night, but i' haven't had it. day 8 & down 7 lbs, so that is keeping me away from my swiss mocha drink. Declined wine at a friends dinner party. i did have a vodka w/ club soda and lime juice - again not what i would normally have. so i'm being good with finding substitutes that work for this!
I feel a lot better, but still am having some slight nausea - thinking it is the SB flu thing, withdrawal.
I need to try the spaghetti squash crock pot thing. I love spaghetti squash. Kids don't like it, but more for me and hubby.
what salad dressing do you guys recommend?

And always remember: south beach is NOT low carb.0 -
Sabine,
Thanks for the suggestion. unfortunately i hate beans :-( the texture makes me gag.
For the 1st 2 weeks it is, low carb? then slowly add in healthy carbs.0 -
VK...I will let Sabine answer your question. But I think you are right...Phase 1 is pretty low carb...even the veggies are the least carby kind. No carrots kinda thing.
I do know that once I got on board with this kind of eating...I never looked back. To me, this just makes sense. Very Mediterranean. I went to my niece's wedding in 2009 in Spain after losing 40 on SB...and I think I even lost a few more cuz all we did was walk and eat food that fit this style of eating.
I do need to watch the bread/tortilla/rice/popcorn stuff...keep the servings legit...and just do what really got me here. This is something that we can live with forever. The more I look around to what others are doing, the more I know how this fits my lifestyle and attitude towards food perfectly.
Once you finish with the very restrictive Phase 1 and get into P2 solidly, you will be so happy. Just make it a lifestyle...not a diet.
YOU are doing great...keep it up!

VK--I know what you mean about beans' texture, especially lima and butter beans. However (take this from a non-bean lover), I've found I can tolerate Great Northern and cannellini beans. Do you like edamame? How about hummus? (I can't remember if those are OK on Phase 1). You're doing very well on Phase 1--hang in there. Remember, you don't have to be perfect, only reasonably close, to succeed.
Magic turned me onto Bolthouse dressing--again, not sure if this is OK on Ph. 1.1 -
Bolthouse Dressings: http://www.bolthouse.com/products/dressings/creamy/0
-
Yeah, not a fan of hummus or edamame. My husband likes hummus, but the texture isn't for me. and i would see it as a dip for chips.
I've been doing good. I agree with Magic, definitely a way of life. I will be better once i can add in fruit to the mix. i miss my watermelon water. I did pick up some stevia today, so i will make some lemonade with that.
eating more vegetables and know that is better for me.
made enchiladas last night for family and just baked some the filling and ate it with a salad, so i still could eat what they were eating.
I was eating the Ezekiel bread before this. I love it. But not sure if that will be a good choice in Phase 2 or not.
I do have the bolthouse blue cheese, so good to know i'm on the right path!
thanks for the support!1
