2000m today. It took until1600 to feel into it, but then I had to go to work.
1700m Monday, with a great, tough free sprint set: 200, 150, 125, 100, 75, 50, 25.
I am trying to increase my speed to get fast enough to do some open water events by the summer.0 -

@emmab0902 Impressive Emma, especially since you have been a short course indoor specialist so the long course outdoor is a big transition. But you have the physical and mental strength for this. Are you allowed wet suits??
From my limited TriAthlon experience Sighting to stay on course and swim the shortest distance possible and breathing in Choppy Water with other athletes around you were the biggest challenges for me.
2100 m in 80 minutes mixed bag of random drills depending on how many were jammed into the single dble wide lane.
100m free warmup
100m free kick
Free Pyramid 25m, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 150, 125, 100, 75, 50, 25 @ 10s RI & 3/5 breathing

Wetsuits are mandatory for that event. Right now I don't have either the mental or physical strength for much - it's been a hugely traumatic last five weeks and it's ongoing. So I have a LOT of work to do in the next 11 weeks if I'm going to manage the 4.2km!!!1 -
Going to see if I can manage a straight 2000m swim today. And hopefully under 36 minutes although that's probably overly optimistic.1

Ugh that was NOT fun. I take my hat off to distance swimmers.

4800m.
I planned on doing 5100 but I got an excruciating charley horse in my calf when I flip turned at 4775m. I basically dog paddled back to the shallow end and limped out.
I did a hard but good ladder in the middle of the workout:
500, 400, 300, 200, 150, 100, 75, 50, 25 on a set pace. I did a lot of kicking before and after that so I guess I overdid it today.1 -

Congrats on completing that. Great pace! I aspire to be that fast.
I like a lot of warm-up. Even when I was a kid I'd do a ton of warming up at meets. I cannot imagine hitting your pace without a warm-up.0 -
Emma, sheesh!!!! Dang girl. You're fast!
I went last night and it was a free for all. Made me think of Gutzy and his China swims. People joining in, but not having ANY idea what swim etiquette is. Good grief. Friday night is family night. No more Friday night swims at that pool. I was aiming for 45 laps, but got to my 36, did one more, and got out. It was a crappy swim anyway. Here's hoping for Monday!1 -

believe it or not, it is not that big a deal to jump from 2.4kn to 4.2km. At last in my experience anyway. Once I got past 1.5 miles, it was a lot easier to bump up by 0.5 to 1 miles at a time.
Just keep pushing through the walls. Your mind is the biggest obstacle, not your muscles.
You can do it. If I can, anyone can.

The life guards should have a duty to maintain order in the pool and at least one goods lap lane. I love my Y. The life guards don't tolerate messing around.1 -

Ahhh, Mondays are much better at this pool. Adult lap swim only. I got my full 45 done "plus one more." It took me all of an hour, but it felt great. And then the hot tub as a treat.3

2000m
250 warm up
250 breathing till 11
750 hand fins
250 mix breaststroke and front crawl
250 hand fins
250 front crawl cool down
this was before circuits - did about another 400m in that. Including a length underwater with a brick and a float belt! apparently he feels the need to slow me down!! haha1 -
After a year and a half as a slow triathlete, I joined the masters swim team at the YWCA in November but procrastinated all month. Finally set my alarm for 4:45 a.m. today, got out of bed...and found the whole city coated in an inch of ice. Chipped away a bit at the sidewalk and still made it into the pool by 6:30. Super nice people all around. I was super slow, but enjoyed it and am looking forward to doing more in the future. The first time I've done any kind of work out since 7th grade swim team, other than getting in the pool and swimming straight laps.
300m warmup
200m kicks
200m pull
4x75 IM
4x25 sprint kicks
3x50 fast free
something else here in the middle that i've forgotten
200m free
The middle part was supposed to be done twice but again, I'm slow. Made it through once and with 7:30 approaching, I did 100m cooldown and called it a day.

I agree with ^^.
@emmab0902 you don't give yourself enough credit for your physical strength and mental abilities. Like @fishgutzy has said to the people completely new to swimming " just add another length to the swim each week/session " and you will find yourself at the distance you want/need. When I was starting my Triathlon training I actually slowed my pace down and increased the length by 250m each week. Then once I was close to my desired length I ramped my pace backup. A technique that is used across all endurance sports, we do that it in the running club, local biking group and even the local cross country ski group.
Adult Swimclub last night 2300m
warmup: 50m free, kick, back, pull
4 x 75m Free & Back 15s RI
200m Broken x 2
25, 50, 75, 50 :10 sRI on 25's

50, 25, 75, 50 :20 sRI on 75's
50m Breast with Dolphin Kick
50m Breast 3 kick 1 pull
100m choice cooldown
The 2nd round of the 200 Broken was tough, I was pushing a little to hard and started to get some vertigo, had to pull back and go easy to prevent a pool accident.
No leg cramps, no toe cramps so it was a good session.1 -
only did around 850m this morning - lie in, plus circuits and desire for steam room before work haha
250m before circuits
approx 350 during circuits
250m relaxed swim afterwards1
