45 slow laps yesterday. I was grateful for each one. Today is a run day. Every Thanksgiving morning, my daughter, her boy friend and I go downtown and do a loop across one bridge, run north along the river, cross at another (there are 11 bridges in Portland, so we can cut it short or extend it) and run back to the car. Then we get a coffee together and head home. Last year, it rained so hard, and then harder, and then harder, that we cut it to 3 miles. I was born and raised in Portland, OR. I am used to the rain. But this rain was hard to see through. Today it's 58F and cloudy. !! We might have to get a full 5 miles in.

Went to the pool and did about 45 minutes perfecting (or at least trying to) my freestyle stroke. I’ll never make the Olympics :) but hope to at least be able to do a number of laps without gasping for breath LOL. Never been a great swimmer but am having fun and at least keeping active.

Adult Swim Club 2900m it was an epic workout. My arms may yell at me tomorrow.

    200m warm-up; 50m free, pull, kick, scull

    Fly w fins - 3 x @ 10s RI:

    50m Body Dolphin
    2 x 25m One Arm Butterfly alt 3L/3R
2 x 25m Salmon Butterfly ( arm recovery to pull position under water like a breast stroke)
    2 x 25m 3L/3R/3
    50m Fly

    100 Easy Choice

    Back - 3 x @ 10s RI:

    50m kick
    2 x 25m - 6 kick switch
    2 x 25m - 3 kick pull
50m pullbuoy - Body roll emphasis and try to maintain straight line - don't waggle side to side
50m Back - put it all together

    Free Pyramid 900m @ 5s RI on < 100m & 10s RI on > 100m
    25m, 50m, 75m, 100m, 125m, 150m, 125m, 100m, 75m, 50m, 25m Sprint last 2 if you can.

200m easy Choice recommended to mix up strokes

I had to take a little break during the Fly set, had an air pocket/air lock in one ear and water in the other one. The pressure differential causes me to get vertigo - wee nothing like getting that spinny-dizzy feeling when twisting and turning in the water. At least I know what causes it, if they are both full of water or air locked no problem, but if they split and I don't catch it then it can be a really miserable experience.

Hi! New in the group and trying to get back in the swimming. My goal for the moment is to create a rutine, and improve endurance. I got to the pool two days this week, and did around 1000m in one hour. Hoping to shorten the stops between laps, it’s frustrating! I’m obesse (89kg, 1’58m), and no condition, I suppose that does not help.

Welcome @ammoes ! Sounds like you are off to a great start! I am sure if you just keep at it, one lap at a time, you will see improvements in endurance and pace in no time.

Lots of great swimming going on here!
    @emmab0902 those are awesome splits!
@beerfoamy and @loneda I don't know how you manage those distances in roughly an hour and a half, do you swim those sets non-stop?
@juliet3455 your workouts are always so varied and interesting.

As for me, I have been swimming pretty regularly just not posting. I have been averaging around 3600 meters with the team, but that is a lot of freestyle so I have been trying to go on my own once a week to work on my other strokes.

I swam that one pretty much non stop. Couple of breathers and waiting for people to pass. :) if I was properly non stop I may have been able to get 1hr34 :)

@girlwithcurls2 Nice Turkey Trot run and 45 laps. We have had freezing rain with -10 to -15C so every trail and road is covered in a nice layer of ice. Really limits your running. Now it is snowing on top the ice so promises to be really interesting driving, walking, running etc. In some places you could put on the skates and have a great game of Hockey.

@emmab0902 Your kicksets are awesome - being a typical guy my kick is rubbish - nice pyramid on the endurance set

@beerfoamy 5000m - in 1hr36 minutes well chuffed indeed. Never get more than 1 hr in the pool due to there schedule - Family swim follows lane swim = lots of screaming kids and no lanes
@aliciamariaq One of the main reasons I am in the Adult Swim Club is for the variety of workouts that the coach's will build. As the one coach said he think of the workouts he hated the most in Junior Swim Club and but caused the greatest improvement in his skills and those are the ones he centers his plan around.
    Welcome back @fishgutzy.

In the pool yesterday at noon for a splash - no real plan as the lanes were to crowded to accomplish much. Lots of free pull (pullbuoy) with zipper and finger drag recovery to improve my left arm position. Still dropping the wrist=slapping the water on hand entry and putting on the park brake. The huge stream of bubbles off my left hand underwater is a dead giveaway. Did all my breathing on the left to work the roll - 4 stroke. Probably 800-1000m.

Great workouts everyone, am envious. My swimming stlye etc leaves a lot to be desired. Just getting the stamina to do multiple laps seems daunting. Was never comfortable with my face in the water, head roll to breathe every so often. Taking a lot of getting used to for sure but am keeping trying. Wondering if better to concentrate on my stroke either by using kick board and using legs or swim buoy and concentrating on arms before trying to put it all together in one complete lap.

3200m yesterday, including a sprint set that wiped me out:
    10 x 100, alternating IM and free.

@BradyPug I am not sure what would be best. I think it would be fun to experiment with a kickboard and buoy and see how they feel. A lot of people feel that they can swim faster with the buoy because of the bouyancy.

Could you try to use a kickboard but hold your arms straight and keep your head in the water, lifting it to breathe? That might help increase your comfort level of having your face in the water.

As @fishgutzy says, just aim to increase by one lap, and your stamina and distance will increase.

@juliet3455 How interesting, I too have noticed that in swim practice, the females are stronger at the kick sets than the men.
I wonder why? Better body alignment? They are higher on the water? Hmm

I THINK that men generally have stronger and more sinky legs so get more drag in kick

Made it through my 45 laps. Kind of my new goal, replacing 36. I wasn't really feeling it, and it's cold and wet outside, so getting into a chilly pool dripping wet wasn't fun. I mostly had a lane to myself until a guy joined while I was at the far side. Why, oh why do people do this?? I wear glasses! I can't see through bad vision and foggy goggles! I was alone in the lane! Thankfully, I was a little to the left of the line. Then the guy next to me was all over the place with his front crawl. His arms were more like chicken wings. They came up and over the lane line every time. I actually stopped to watch and see what was going on. and then our hands slapped underwater. I know that my hands don't go into the lane next to me--on the other side of a lane marker. Oh well. I wasn't up for a swim (as per usual lately) but knocked it out anyway, so that was good.
