I met my goal and have swum every day since I last posted except for Christmas. I have swum 2000-2500m with two swims of 3200, including one today. However, I bought myself short fins for Christmas, and have been using them for 500-1000m, so it feels like I should factor that in when counting my total distance.

Had a swim on the 30th, the pool was an oven.
They seem to have a set point wrong in the new Integrated Building Environmental Control system.
When it gets really cold ( > -25C ) outside the Pool temperature rises by 5 to 10C ( 10 - 15F) which is just to hot for any type of real workout. So many of these control systems are engineered by people who never experience/live in cold temperatures so they seem to over- analyze/design the exterior temp sensor data in the control system feedback loop.

So a group of us splashed around pretending to do a workout session. Still got 40 lengths in - 1000m but not a heavy effort.

We had a new pool built and the design folks said we "didn't need a dehumidification system on our pool air handlers". Then in the first winter the temperatures dropped below 10F and the 6ft blades in the air handlers got frozen in place because all the condensation in the unit. That was a $500,000 miscalculation!

2650 yesterday. I was only planning on a 1600 but was trying to avoid someone who was in the hot tub. Yeah, that's how lame I am--I'd rather swim another 1/2 mile+ than make small talk with certain people.

2000 today and a clear coast to the locker room

    Phew blimey that's quick!! :D Congratulations!! :D

Just done the math and that is a faster pace than my best sprint pace on my 100m!! Challenges me to time a 1000m tomorrow - not done it timed since July when I got 17:43! If I can maintain my sprint pace (hah, right!) I would hit 1000m in 15:20!! :o you are bloody quick!

@emmab0902 - well I was all psyched up to time my 1000m. Got in pool and it was the one morning in about 8 months I have forgotten to put my Garmin on! tch. Used the pool clock and it looked like 'around 17mins'
    Will try again tomorrow.

    Swim wise: 2500m (planned distance)
    1000m front crawl (around 17mins - maybe)
    250m with hand fins

(25 min break for circuit training - did 24 odd lengths in that)

    250m relaxed front crawl
    750m with hand fins
250m relaxed - tried a drill someone suggested, swimming with hands in fists to get more of a forearm pull. Did 3 x25m and it made me sink and flail a fair bit! awesome! haha

have decided to try and swim 300 miles in 2018 :)

Ugh. I got a few laps in before the water cardio class. I was fighting the beginning of a sore throat, so it was challenging. I'm taking today off (work and swimming). Haven't been sick in a while, and was ready to get back on track for January. My pool does a "Water Warriors" challenge in January. Each time you make it to the pool, you put a sticker by your name. If you can make it 16 times, t-shirt at the end!! It's more about me keeping track and getting my pre-holiday groove back. I hope this doesn't mess up week one too much...

So, after finally working up the courage to get to masters swim, the pool has been out of commission since mid December. I had to work all over again to remotivate myself to get to a different Y before work. Finally made it today, although just to swim by myself. Will take even more mental prepping to try to join a different masters group.

    1500 y free

    2018 goals:
    • 100 miles
    • Sub 10 minute 500 yard open swim for my sprint tri in August (was 12:09 last year)
    • 2.4 mile open swim classic in August

    4 miles today.
Hopefully I have far fewer China trips this year so I can now early hit a target of ### miles for the year.
An outward facing goal to encourage more swimmers at my Y to challenge themselves to swim farther.

I think I have mine loosely together, but I try to keep my hand relatively relaxed.
