Had my shoulder surgery follow up yesterday. Five more weeks of arm in sling with minimal movement. However, my doc suggested a stationary recumbent if I insist on doing exercise. That way I’ll avoid the risk of falling and putting all the reconstructive surgery at risk. I reluctantly agree it is a smart idea, for someone of my age (69), to favor on the side of caution recovering from such an aggressive surgery.
So, for me it will be keto with aerobic exercise for another 5 weeks at least. I’m curious to see how high fat goes with recovery. In the few days I’ve been keto clean I’ve already noticed my skin is healthier and my mind is clearer. I’m also sure part of that is due to flushing out anesthesia and narcotics from my body.
I’m starting to really believe food is medicine. This whole surgery recovery is going to be a blessing in disguise if it works out like I think it will. I really hope keto becomes a way of life (WOE) for me instead of just a diet fad. One year down. How many to go????? I'm thinkin 31

Funny how we have thoughts like that as we age. I just turned 65. I adopted a couple of kittens from a shelter in September. Then I saw the term "forever home" and started feeling kind of bad that I might not be giving them their "forever home". I might die 1st. Then I had a heart attack in October and really started questioning the wisdom of the adoption. They're so CUTE though. We do love them and hopefully can for a long time. I'll shoot for 35.3 -

Second Sunday is back Folks had a great week with fasting and eating, I adopted the fasting and started Alternate day fasting It worked for me to lose my cheat weight. The scale is moving and I can see the variations in my body. My Phants and Shirts are losing now

After much hemming and hawing, finally, I have returned to eating in a more clean and calm way. There are always countless reasons (lurking around) for me to consume massive carbs and, then, suffer terribly after. When I keep my carb intake very low, my debilitating nerve pain lessens. It is true and it is amazing to not hurt so much. I am literally able to do things that I usually can not. (I have gone the medicine way before which worked well but I have opted out of that for now - very strong drugs.)
The weight loss is as equally important as the pain control. I will definitely have less pain if I am not carrying around so much weight. It would be great to be able to move well again. It would be great to be able to wear some of my clothes again. It would be great to feel well and moderately attractive again. I so want to accomplish this.
In theory, keeping my carb intake low is pretty a simple thing. I like that. It makes it easy for me. That said, I have had a consistently hard time putting it into practice. I am a carb junkie. My brain always drifts to carb desires at ten o'clock at night. Addiction. (In the past, I have been even been known to bake scones at night because there is nothing in the cupboard. Ugh. What a nerd I am.) All day I am happy with my food choices but then nighttime comes and whammo! Water, tea or a scone.... let's see, hmmm? Well, now it's tea or boullion. No baking scones at night (much to my family's disappointment in the morning.)
With this app and wonderfully supportive community, I feel that I am not alone in my experiences. I am so very grateful to have all of you floating out there in the universe. Your stories and comments are inspiring. I have hopes that I can be like so many of you and achieve my long term goal. First, though, I am trying to getting under 200. Thanks!7 -
This week has been better than last! I’ve been sticking closer to the macro goals, but I wish that MFP would reflect net carbs, because I’ve been trying to eat more veggies and that’s affecting the carbs, but also the fiber! Also I’m determined to meal prep a little more this coming week! It’s so much easier to have things on hand.

I didn't weigh this morning because we had my husband's work party last night, and I had more wings, wine, and ice cream than I should have (but omg so good!).
I have 15 weeks to lose 20 pounds until my sister's wedding. Just got word that my bridesmaid dress arrived, so I'll be picking that up in the next day or two, and plan to have any needed alterations in late April.
The eating plan: What I call "cluttered keto" (tracking macros, 90% clean keto, with the occasional low-carb wrap, non-strict vegetables like carrots, or other "fits macros" food).
The workout plan: Muay Thai (made it to both classes last week!), and HIIT workouts on our home bowflex max cardio trainer three times a week.8 -
I gained 5-10 pounds from going off keto to battle a cold. The gain seems to have stopped and I've had ketone breath lately, so I'm getting back on track. Next step is to re-lose the 5-10 and then start maintenance again.

@tryphenahachey I'm the same. I have them and use them occasionally. But after I got into ketosis, they just always measured "trace" - got boring. Right now, I'm checking because I went non-keto in December and am now switching back. But a better clue for me was (1) having ketone breath last week (ah... the smell fruity paint fumes in the morning); and (2) having my cravings go "bye-bye" again.3 -

This is the first week of this new year I have been relatively keto clean (not perfect yet). My wonderful wife has taken over keto prep/cooking as I recovery from shoulder surgery. She still slips in a few non-keto ingredients here and there, but I’m not complaining. She’s making me keep my arm still and calm as I heal from the repairs done to my 69-year old dislocated shoulder. So, for at least 5 more weeks I’m at the mercy of my reluctant keto chef.
I’m very grateful she has accepted keto chef duties as she is not as into keto as I. She has a hard time staying in ketosis because she won’t give up beer on our bowling night, Ha! So, my results are both on the scale and off are more noticeable than hers. Hopefully. My keto chef and I will continue the positive trend we’ve been on early this new year.

Getting in the groove, week three. Still having some sleep issues, but the nausea is gone and I do have more energy. Two wins for me this week: I made Rice Krispie treats for my boys (chocolate with coconut marshmallows) and DID NOT EVEN LICK THE SPOON - think that may be a first and today, went out to breakfast and ordered an omelette and requested to hold the hashbrowns and toast. They brought back a huge plate and I ignored all of the carb-y sides. Previously would have ate the whole darn thing and came hope and napped.
Told my mom I was doing Keto and expected a lecture on how unhealthy it was; surprisingly she was supportive and is interested in trying it.

Week two complete!! Overall I’m feeling so much more energized and my tummy is less bloated with less emergency trips to the bathroom too! I did have one day where I fell off the wagon due to a coworker’s farewell lunch at an Indian restaurant. I felt awful several hours lately.. extreme brain fog and fatigue. I’ve been going to the gym 2-3 times a week doing some moderate cardio and light weights. It’s not much but it’s a start, right?
