Since I think we are 1st up with the team challenge next month. Do we have an idea of what it is? I think it should be food related.

If we did an eat the rainbow challenge to eat a purple or red, a green, an orange and a yellow food every day, could keto eaters do it?
For example I might eat blueberries with breakfast and then roast yellow Squash, green peppers and sweet potatoes with dinner. I think keto folks could use tomatoes, onions and green peppers and still be low carb, but I need someone to verify that.

depends how they truly count their carbs.

Cool. What I know about counting carbs is all based on trying to make my 85 year old dad keep his blood sugar in check. (It doesn't work. He sneaks candy.)

Several of us have confessed to stress or emotional eating, so I would like to challenge the group to post here before turning to food. It might look like this:

My boss has sent me 4 emails already this morning. I can't get anything done. But I will not use a Reeses Cup to deal with it. That won't get the work done, either.

    (This is true, BTW.)

I usually emotionally eat in the evenings after a stressful day. My day consisted of this:

Crazy, crazy, crazy, pee break, crap hitting the fan, bad news, moderate news, crazy, crazy, pee break, crazy.

Been doing so much overtime lately, I don't understand why I'm pulling the slack for everyone else who leave "on time". Also, I was passed over for an acting opportunity, they gave it to someone at a lower level than me. Why do I care so much when clearly no one else does?

Sorry for the mini rant, brain is fried atm.

I don't mind the mini rant. In your shoes, I would definitely start leaving on time and let the acting person do the work. I am the acting person and my boss is working to make that permanent, but I still need her to understand that I can only work on one email at a time.

Hello from North Carolina, team! I'm Stephanie, a 39 (tomorrow) year old wife and mom/stepmom to four teenagers, ages 14, 16, 17 and 18. I'm new to the groups and community aspect of MFP, so bear with me.

I joined MFP a few years ago, but got serious about my health and changing my lifestyle for good about a year ago. I started this journey at a weight of 204.2 lbs. with a GW of 160. I am currently down to 174 lbs. and I feel amazing. I went from being a couch potato who couldn't run 30 seconds without being winded, to a person who can run a complete 5K on the treadmill in 39 minutes.

I love running and competing in 5Ks, as well as hiking and kayaking. I am currently participating in the NC 100 Miles Challenge (get at least 100 miles of outdoor activity in my state this year) and the Passport program (visit all the NC State Parks). My goal for this year is to check as many NC State Parks off my passport as possible and to run at least four 5Ks with steady improvement on my time.

I have tried and failed so many fad diets in the past that I was fed up. I decided that the key to my own success would have to be changed habits that I can live with beyond the initial weight loss. Keeping track of my caloric intake and exercise was the answer. I don't limit myself in regard to the foods I eat, as long as it fits within my calorie goal for the day. I do A LOT of meal prepping. It keeps me sane.

I joined this challenge because I feel like I have hit a brick wall. My home state suffered major devastation from Hurricane Florence in September and I found myself stress eating and not working out like I should. I work in social services, so I was required to help man a disaster shelter for 10 days during and after the storm. This awful time is where I became derailed from my healthy lifestyle plan. I'm hoping that this challenge and being a part of this team will help me get past this plateau and finally reach my goal weight. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hi, I'm Laurie, 52, married for 29 years in August, w/2 grown sons out of the house. My oldest son just got engaged to his girlfriend and looking at October 2020 to get married. I also had right knee surgery in April of last year to scrape arthritis, reset kneecap and fix meniscus flap. Needless to say, weight crept up b/c of lack of movement and could only do PT rehab for my knee. It still bothers me from time to time, swelling, etc. so I try to do what I can. I live in Wisconsin and we are in a deep freeze right now and even my gym closed last night to reopen this afternoon which I'd a Planet Fitness! Our state is in a second day shutdown tomorrow. I'm looking forward to participating in this group!!

Hi, I'm Luci from Australia, 40 years, mum to a 13 yo, with a partner of 19 years.

My weight has been up and down (more up than down) since pregnancy in 2004. My lightest and fittest was in 2011, when I was 127lbs, after losing 60 pounds and learning to run with the C25K program.

The ups happen when *kitten* happens in life - busy, stressed, time-poor, a psychopathic boss, a depressed & anxious child, relationship tensions, moving house to a location that destroys old habits, illness and injury. In these times, it's like there is not enough oxygen or mental energy to do everything, I have to prioritise, and myself and my weight are simply not the top priority. I stop exercising because I feel too tired or have no time. I eat meals that are quickest and easiest and fit in best with my child's fussy palate and my partner (which means more take-away, fast-food, pre-prepared meals, cafes, pasta, bread, junk food etc). I am a bit of an emotional eater, but it is mostly more that I just don't have the energy to care what I put in my mouth, so yes will eat whatever tastes nice or sometimes doesn't even taste nice but is just easy.

The downs happen when I have the time, space, oxygen to focus back in on my own wellbeing, when I feel I have the energy to commit to the challenge. In 2011 it came out of burn-out, when I had to stop work and take the time to get better. This time round, my daughter has been on anti-depressants for a couple months now which has lifted a weight in our household (after years of struggle without medication), we are able to breathe again. We wrote our New Year's Resolutions together and agreed as a family to work on improving our health and wellbeing this year. (And I realise it's a bit hard for my daughter to take us seriously when we tell her that it's important to eat well, sleep well, exercise regularly - and that this affects how she feels - if we are not living by these principles ourselves).

On Sunday I weighed the heaviest I have ever been: 263.5lbs. Monday I started my diet & exercise plan so have picked this as my official 'weigh in' day - at 260lbs. (Technically speaking, I weigh myself everyday, as it is an easier habit to create than remembering weekly, but Monday will be the day I track from).

    My Stats
    5"6' and 40yrs
    HW: 263.5lbs (27th Jan 2019)
    LW: 127lbs (2011)
    GW: 143lbs
    CW: 258lbs (but my Monday's weigh-in day was 260lbs)

(N.B. I operate in metric, so am converting to lbs, not always sure whether to round or do decimals to 1 or 2 places to be more precise?)

    February Goals
    • Exercise daily (walk, yoga, swim)
    • Stick to diet
    • Strive to get under 245lbs
    • Make/eat some lactofermented saurkraut, veges, drinks. (New for me).

Metric folks - one decimal is fine.

If my conversion is correct - .01 wound be about 2 grams. We are not that serious :)

My scale weighs in tenth of pounds but rounds to the even tenths. If you have a digital that links to an app, you might be able to have convert for you.

Tomorrow, I will be posting our team challenge for week 1. Thanks @Navydaddjtc for making the BRAND NEW team be week one 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Challengers - feel free to friend me.

Hi I am Linda from London, Ontario. I am 54, married, mother of three and grandmother to two granddaughters. I am retired due to disability. I have sjogrens, rheumatoid arthritis, type 2 diabetes and had a knee replacement two years ago. I also have bipolar which affects my emotions.

My weight has increased for the last while due to binge eating. I am seeking help for this and the binges have gone from 4 to 5 times a week to once a week now. So officially I having lost any weight since starting as I was still gaining as a result of the binges. I have dropped 4 pounds of the weight I gained since starting.

I have just started adding exercise in. The weather hasn’t cooperated for walking outside but I have started some YouTube videos. For the most part I can keep up except for the modified burpees and lunges. Limitations from the knee replacement.

    HW: 264.5
    LW: 165 (2000)
    GW: 165
    CW: I weigh in Friday

I saw this article this morning and thought I would share. The title is 'MENTALLY STRONG WOMEN REFUSE TO DO THESE 13 THINGS" This would apply to men, too.

I did a quick read of the 13 items and thought that was interesting enough to share. We are not here just for weight loss. We are here to better ourselves all around. SELF LOVE - Right?

Interesting list. I also think it is good advice for men or women. Although the rule breaking should be done within reason, not just to be doing it.

Agreed - but I think that is meant to mean look outside of the social norms... 50 years ago women were told they should stay at home and raise a family - not be the CEO of a company.

    FEBRUARY STEP CHALLENGE

For the new folks - there is also a friendly step challenge among the teams. We have slots for only TEN steppers. If you are a good stepper - join the challenge. Steps will be reported within the team thread this month and entered by the captains - this is new from last month.

We don't want empty spots as we are competing with other teams -- I am not a good stepper (tied to a desk 8-5) but I will fill a slot with my measly 4000 steps a day until a better stepper 'steps up' - that was funnier in my head ....

Hi everybody, my name is Gerrit. I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with my wife and 4 kids. 2 daughters aged 11 and 15 months and 2 sons 9 and 1 month. I restarted on MFP September 2018 at 408 lbs. and am now down to 335 lbs. I stared with 3 months of CICO and carnivore diet and tried to switch to Keto in January. I find Keto a lot harder than carnivore as I am feeling hunger which I did not feel on strict carnivore. .
I have mainly just been walking and have been adding a little jogging into the mix. My goals for Feb is to get below 320 and be able to jog 1 mile without stopping. I am also adding body weight exercises.

Hi, I am Sue. I'm 67 and retired. Married nearly 43 years, mother to 2, grandmother to 3 plus 2 grandpuppies. I am from New Jersey, but transplanted to GA due to my husband's former job.

I was athletic as a kid, relatively fit in my 20's and it's been all uphill since. A tremendous amount of personal loss over the years, high stress career and emotional eating have taken their toll. I need knee replacement, but need to get the weight down first. Having fibromyalgia does not help, but I started 4 months ago working out with a trainer and as of January 2nd started keto. My son has been very successful with it and I feel I am off to a great start. I'm looking to this group for support, accountability and challenge.

    HW: 305
    ST: 287.9 on 2/1/19
    CW: 267 on 1/30/19
    GW: 175

I'm traveling the next 2 weeks, but I am planning ahead. Bringing my keto cookbook so my daughter & I can cook together.
