WEIGHT NO MORE DECEMBER CHAT

Your JANUARY chat page has just gone up!
This is always a bit crazy at the end of our challenge month. We open the new one, where you can go and post an introduction, or whatever you want to say at the beginning of the new month. But keep doing your week 5 weigh-ins here, and discussions don't really have to move to the new one until Sunday. We just like to be prepared
You can find it in the list (sometimes you have to click on "all discussions" to find it) or just go to

Just a quick check in-we are back from the shore. It was so nice to get a way for a little bit. The girls actually kept the house clean AND Shannon had all the Christmas lights on for me. I know, I do have to take them down soon but I love them so much. Today, I was able to actually walk on the beach. I was really tired after. I only walked for 30 minutes but I went at a good pace. I am disappointed that I am getting tired out so quickly but I really haven't been walking since before the summer. I am going to have to start walking more now that I am feeling better. I don't get out of breath, my legs just get so tired. I don't remember when I took advil last for my hip or knee so I am doing much better. I guess I just have to build my endurance up again. I can't believe it isn't even 8:30 and I am ready to go to bed Lol! I will check in again tomorrow. Have a good night everyone.
@nstephenson01 Nice loss especially if you had a lot of sodium yesterday-I bet you are even lower. I have to remember to check out those Jessica videos. I need to have more of a routine with strength training. I have just been doing random exercises and don't really have a routine. Sounds like you have a good plan for the day. Guess with the snow the barn project is on hold a bit.
@Cafelelia I love those goal trackers above. Where did you get them from? I would like to print them out.
@Freeglerock How cool that you have an allotment and you still are harvesting things from it! Is it close to your house? You are doing great on your bike. I need to get mine fixed, it is in the garage. You are really making me want to get out and ride!
@kirsten11872 Happy New Year! Let's make 2020 our year!
@ljdanny That isn't really bad at all. I am glad that you got the treats out of the house. They are just too tempting for me to have around. I believe I already saw you got to your zumba class. That is awesome especially after the first day back to work.
@ljdanny and @Freeglerock I am too uncoordinated for zumba Lol! So many people love it and I am always in the back of the class doing the wrong thing
@tryingagain5 I actually have been doing well the past few days with veggies and water too. Maybe after having a week of indulging more than usual, we actually wanted them more. Sounds like you had a really good workout today. I know it is hard while you are going through it but isn't it satisfying when you are done? Have a good night a work.

Yesterday I had fruit and yogurt for breakfast and a pre packaged salad for lunch. It wasn't enough and I snacked too much when I got home from work.
Supper was a large Waldorf salad, which was delicious, but then I ended up grabbing chips later, so yesterday had its ups and downs.
I found an app that does 30 day training for different target areas. Did my first set of exercises yesterday.
Today I had a poached egg on half a bagel with cream cheese and strawberries. Hoping a little protein keeps me more satisfied through the morning.3 -
Can someone please remind me of the IF app you all were using? @kirsten11872 I think you were using one that I liked1

Also can someone please send me the generic link for someone interested in F2F?0

Quick check in as I need to leave early for my yoga class because the roads are an icy mess.
Food: Great all day until evening
Water: Really good but lost track while MFP was down
Exercise: JessicaSmithTV 30 minute total body strength training, 30 minute dog walk, shoveled snow; 10,210 steps
I put together my 24 hour plan and did great all day until the evening. Hubby made ham & potato soup. It simmered along all day in the crock pot and smelled great. I went back for not seconds but THIRDS!!! I'm not sure why I'm overeating at night lately and need to examine the reason... Ugh. Hubby is a great cook but he's messy and he doesn't clean up. I cleaned the dishes, drank a glass of water, set my IF app (for the first time in a really long time) and went to bed. It was just soup, I told myself LOL. I'm pretty sore today, but in a good way, from the strength training. I took my measurements yesterday morning and they're slightly up. I think its because I'm less toned from not doing any strength exercises for quite some time. So far today my 24 hour plan is created... now to see if I can control my eating tonight.
Will catch up with all you lovelies later. Happy Friday!!2 -
UPDATE! F2F's own Habit Tracker
Everyone on any team is welcome to use our habit tracking spreadsheet. The tracking starts on Sunday, but please go in and set up your name and list of habits before then if you can. Here is how it works:- open https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hGjC7OQrH9Cb8U5gmkeax8VXYm2wsTiSYg43Dg0s_LE/edit?usp=sharing
- go to the bottom, and choose your team from the tabs
- put your MFP use name in the column on the left (highlight "name" and type in yours to replace it)
- add up to five habits you want to track daily
- check the box when you do it!
Any problems? Message me @jugar or ask here and your Captain can find out!2 -

Thursday 1/2 check in
Food: not logged and over
Water: over 64 oz
Exercise: 30 minute walk, PT and stretching
Not the best eating day yesterday. We decided to do a late lunch/early dinner with my brother and sister in law. It was last minute, we were driving home already. We met them at an italian place. I just overate. I left about 1/2 on my plate but I ate appetizers, bread and salad too. When I got home, I did have some candy that was around. I can't believe my weigh in was the same from New Year's day after all of that. I got to get moving. My PT just moved me up and hour so I have to go get ready.
@Cafelelia Thank you! I am going to print them out today! Nice loss!!
@GingerPwr That was a good start. I think to add more protein is a good idea. I like those salad bags and if I was taking it with me somewhere I would bring a tuna packet with me. I also like chicken on it.
@Mrsbell8well I am pretty sure I got the app for IF from Kirsten . It is called LIFE

@pacsnc6 Nice loss!
@nstephenson01 That eating at night is tough sometimes. I actually did well for a while with using the IF app. For some reason if I started a fast, it bothered me to have to start it over. I got away from it with the holidays but plan to start again. Have a good day today and be careful out there!

Just a quick check in. My surgery went well on Tuesday. I can't decide if anesthesia is fascinating or creepy! lol All I remember is scooting from the hospital bed to the OR table (don't even remember laying back down) and then waking up in PACU. Haven't had to take any pain meds since the first day. I'm finding it really hard to rest though. The day after surgery, I walked a mile on the treadmill- only at 2 mph, so nothing strenuous. Yesterday, I took a few small walks and ended the day with 10k steps. I did an hour long walk this morning and hope to get at least 10k steps today too. So far, the scale hasn't moved much but it isn't from a lack of trying so I'll just have to be okay with whatever the scale says on Sunday.
I started filling in the habit tracker....what weekly goals are everyone trying to hit? Would love some ideas!4 -
Thanks team Weight No More for having me as a new member. What a wonderful time to join with all this possibility in the air as we head into the new decade before us.
Weekly weigh-in
Username: 1theresamcvean
Weigh in week: Week 5
Weigh in day: Friday
Previous weight: 155.0
Today's weight: 152.0
I've been active on MFP for two years straight, starting off at 177.4 and now at 152 lbs. My goal is 142.
I live in Toronto, Canada and have a 30-year-old daughter who lives near me and a 28-year-old son who lives in a lovely town called Uxbridge outside of the city, where they bought an old home. It is the trail capital of Canada, so we get a lot of walks and hikes in when we're there. It's a really pretty place, about an hour or so away depending on traffic. (For context, Toronto rivals LA in terms of traffic jams.)
I have two grandchildren. My granddaughter, Pippa, is two and a half, and my grandson Gilbert is 8 months old. My daughter-in-law started back to work this week and my son started his paternity leave from now until May. So I get to spend one day a week with my granddaughter, which I love so much. My daughter-in-law brings her into the city to me. Pippa loves coming here and I enjoy our adventures so much.
I work for myself now, after having had a career as an advertising and publishing executive. A good friend and I are launching a start-up, which has to do with the genealogy trend that's going on now. I'll tell you more about that when it launches. I'm also a family historian myself.
I love cooking from scratch, mainly soups, pastas (which soup is a good substitute for when losing weight - almost any pasta craving can translate into a healthy soup), fish, lots of international cuisines (I find Vietnamese foods, for example, are delicious and low calorie/high flavor), and not so much baking aside from banana bread, which I usually give away.
I had a setback for a large part of last year when I didn't track or lose weight. Just a warning, this next part is going to cover some sad/negative things, but don't worry good things will follow.
For most of last year, my mother has been in palliative care. My sister lives five hours away and I live an hour or more away depending on traffic. Also, my daughter had a cancer diagnosis, which is in remission now, and I was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease, which is disabling but I'm determined to take a positive attitude.
My sister and I, along with two aunts, did shifts at the hospital for months with my mother, packed up her own home, and moved her into a retirement home where she will stay until she goes to hospice. The home is very nice, the people are wonderful, and she is creating a good quality of life and routines. She requires constant care as she is blind, mostly deaf, and an amputee, but is much happier. This means that my sister and I can now get back to our own routines to a degree and she feels settled.
I used to run marathons, cycle outdoors, go to Spinning, do reformer Pilates, work with a personal trainer, etc. until (as my daughter says) one day, just like Forrest Gump, I stopped. Now I focus on walking the dog and eating well. Depending on how well things go with the Meniere's, which affects my hearing and balance significantly (to the point where I can't lie on my back or turn my head to the right among other motions, like looking at the top shelf at home or the supermarket, or I have vertigo), I will work my way up to a new fitness regime. I can no longer drive because of it too.
One serendipitous thing I should mention here is that my daughter-in-law is a deaf interpreter. Because of this my granddaughter learned sign language from a very young age and I learned right along with her. This is extremely fortuitous with the Meniere's because I lost quite a bit of hearing suddenly in May and in flare-ups lose a little more. But, I'm not afraid because of our exposure to the deaf community and ways around this.
At this point, I want to emphasize that I am a person with a positive disposition. There was just a flurry of real-life situations on our doorstep this year to share with you so you have a full picture of who I am.
My goals for 2020 are to lose the last 10 pounds, tone up, launch the new business, work three days a week and balance family time for the rest.
I know @sleepymom5 from another group that I'm in called Sole Mates. In that group we track our steps each day with very little commentary. She let us know about this group, which came at just the right time for me. Right away I was delighted to meet @Cafelelia, who serendipitously lives just a few short kilometres away, right here in Toronto.
I'm very excited to meet you all and read through the December chat so that I could get to know some of you. If I don't share a comment below, don't worry, I'll meet you over on the January chat next week. Also, if I mix any of you up, I'm so sorry.
Here goes:
@sleepymom5 Thanks so much for posting about this group. I got to know you just a little bit last year in Sole Mates and was so happy to be selected for your team. I loved the picture of you dancing with your son Danny at his wedding. I have one with my son that I cherish. We danced to Can You Feel the Love Tonight from the Lion King. That year I even joined a boot camp to make sure my arms looked good in the dress. Your hair was just beautiful!
@Cafelelia I'm already enjoying your posts and feel for you and your family as your father-in-law passed away just before the holidays. Your son choosing the Christmas tree reminded me so much of my son when he was younger. My favourite age was 10. I'm looking forward to spending more time here getting to know you better.
@kirsten11872 I love your attitude to take this journey day by day. You look absolutely beautiful in your holiday photos. I identify with your big city adventures as I think you said you work in the financial district in NYC, though not sure if you still do Can't wait to learn more about you.
@hope002 I love your before after photos. Hula hooping and skiing are such fun activities and the scenery is outstanding. Congratulations on reaching Onederland! That fasting app looks interesting. I like apps but not sure I would like fasting. I really like ginger tea and soup though, so who knows.
@Mrsbell8well All those loaf pans! Your house looked like Santa's workshop or maybe Mrs. Clause's. What a successful year you've had! I'll try to cheer you on but may end up just seeing you as a mentor. I'd like to do yoga too and hope to find a modified routine that I can do without putting my head back.
@cyndiesstuff I have always been in awe of people who can share the good and the bad that they experience. I tend to clam up. I'm so glad you're open with your therapist and are getting support. Sorry to hear about your mom. Hope you both feel much better in 2020.
@tryingagain5 Wow - night shift, book club, bible study, personal trainer, community walking group. What a busy life you have! About sleeping in the day, my body would definitely rebel. Looking forward to knowing you better.
@DanielleInProgress You asked about IBS and FODMAP. I have Ulcerative Colitis, which has been in remission for years. I recommend CleanseMore and/or psyllium husk, which is counterintuitive, but it led me eventually away from relying on FODMAP to a regular diet. Here's a weird fact too. I don't know if you've ever been a smoker or around second-hand smoke, but there was a Harvard Study done and it showed that adult children of smokers who don't smoke themselves sometimes develop issues like IBS, UC, and CD. So do people who have quit smoking. In those cases, a nicotine patch can work to solve the issues too. It worked for me.
@nstephenson01 I loved your post about New Year's Eve morning and walking in the woods with your dogs turning your mood around. That's one of my favourite things to turn my mood around too. Something else we have in common is that I, too, have curly hair and every day's a surprise as to how it's going to look. The seaside is not my hair's friend but I love it anyway because it can turn my mood around, especially with dogs. My profile picture was taken on a day when the hairdresser blow-dried it. I can't do that myself.
@lburch Hello to another newbie. I especially like that you named your alter ego/conscience, Tina. What fun! With all the habits and things you learned last year, combined with being able to run six miles without stopping, 2020 is going to be that much easier for you. Wednesday was my two-year streak anniversary. I've never been on a team like this and am looking forward to it. Especially since Tina's joining us too!
@Phoebe112476 Your positive attitude shows in your goal setting. I like that you want to eat more things that you love that are within your calorie goal. Thanks for that. I'm sure your positive spin on things helped you overcome some challenges in December. I'm sorry your daughter had pneumonia and that you were both in ICU. I hope she's better now. So scary.
@GingerPwr I thought about your post about having the turkey sandwich at your mom's with no cheese, no chips, and a tangerine instead. After I read it, I ate clementines all through the holidays. Thanks for that. ☺
@Freeglerock I love that you're very competitive in a very polite British way. It's the same with me, in a very Canadian way. The cliché is that we always apologize. I was surprised to see that your vice is coffee and not tea. You'd make a very good Canadian.
@Ljdanny What a handsome family. I love your profile picture. I was sorry to hear that your baby granddaughter was sick just one week into daycare. I really like your idea of putting $1 in an envelope every time you exercised. I think for me a higher amount would work better. And I LOVE the sound of pajama day. I'm going to tell my daughter about this. She'll be all over it.
@Lennoncpa I love your profile picture too. You have such a radiant smile. One day I saw that you had 59,088 steps. OMG. Looking forward to getting to know you better. ☺
@Pacsnc6 Two things I loved the most from your posts are that you walked around the table doing your puzzle and that your family decided you don't need any more "things" but would plan family activities instead. We did something similar this year, we all chose one adult and gave them either our time/service (e.g. my son is very handy and will help my daughter with some built-ins at her place), my DIL knit my daughter's boyfriend a scarf, and daughter's boyfriend wrote lyrics for my son to write music for.
@Zumba_Luvah Congratulations on losing 12 pounds in October and November and then on getting into the 180s! Your goal of 10 pounds by June and another 10 by the end of the year is so realistic and achievable. I'm looking forward to both cheering you on and learning from you.
@amytriesww I hope your surgery on New Year's Eve went well and that you're recovering nicely. Surely those 107 flights of stairs were not in the house!? Congratulations on getting into Onederland and then on your official 100-pound loss! You look so happy in your after picture.
@twyla77 What a liberating thing to stop wearing your Fitbit. I was sorry to see that you were feeling down and in a slump and then happy to see you enjoying the holiday season with treats and drinks as counterintuitive as that is to the premise of this group. It's very important to feel up to it all.
@timibotkin I know a little less about you, so apologize if I get this wrong. I'm sorry you're going through some significant treatments, which I assume have side effects. It's awesome that you're tracking your healthy habits here. I'm inspired.
@jedaschultz It's great that your family participates with you in step challenges and healthy eating. That must help a lot. My oldest is a 30-year-old daughter too. She was a sick kid (we call them that in Toronto because the hospital is Sick Kids and they celebrate all the children) with a heart condition, arthritis at a young age, a pituitary tumor, skin conditions, other syndromes, and most recently cancer (which is in remission). My heart goes out to you and your daughter who needs you for her care even now.
If you've made it this far, I can assure you that this is the longest post you'll see from me. I'm a minimalist at heart.
Happy New Year! See you on the January chat.

@1theresamcvean Welcome! Terrific first post and introduction! I read every word and really enjoy your writing style. My profile pic was also taken on a day my hairdresser blow dried my hair out. I’m useless when it comes to my hair and usually just let it air dry and be its curly self. We have very low humidity here in Montana so that helps
@Mrsbell8well I’m using the IF app Zero but I don’t recall if it was @hope002 or @kirsten11872 who shared it 🤔3 -

Thursday check in
Food - logged & on track
Exercise - 5 k steps & more rest
Water - 1.8l
This is just a quick check in for today as MFP has been so challenging! I said to Pam that the system is probably crashing because it is the beginning of the year, so more people are using it, just like the crowding in fitness clubs at this time! It took me a while today to get some introductory posts up on the January thread and I finally did it!
@lennoncpa - Nice maintain and amazing steps!!
@hope002 - Nice loss! The IF is working!
@1theresamcvean - Welcome! Thank you for that lovely post & introduction! As you know, I am very psyched to have a Toronto “neighbour” on MFP! I updated your starting weight on the January spreadsheet to 152.0 so that you start Week 1 with your current weight.
@amytriesww - I am so happy that your surgery went well! Cannot agree with you more about anesthesia. Look at you getting so many steps already! I have a paper habit tracker, so I am still deciding whether I will use that online habit tracker. I am tracking the usual stuff (exercise, water, logging). I will also track to my 2020 goals, some of which are not weight loss and fitness related like which are include being more creative and dressing nicely each day (I work from home most days).
@sleepymom5 - Nice loss! You are doing great!

Ok so back to what I was 2 weeks ago. Lost what I gained from the holidays. I am excited for the next few months ahead. I have been doing great and will keep doing what I'm doing so I can reach my goals!4 -
Friday 1/3 check in
Food: logged except for an unplanned supper out. Didn't look up the calories but had over 1000 left so I think I was pretty close
Water: 40 oz
Exercise: none
I stopped at the lab after work to have some more bloodwork drawn. It wasn't too busy, only had to wait for one person. There was mandatory overtime last night so I ended up sleeping all day. At least this week it will be overtime pay as opposed to last week where it was regular pay for making up some time off during Christmas.
I got the bloodwork results back and found out I have to have some more tests done. Apparently I'm bleeding constantly and have to have an EGD & colonoscopy combined to find out where and why. I do take aspirin everyday (and have for many years) but have to stop that for now . I had a lot of questions but the medical assistant who called wasn't able to answer any of my them. My doctor's usual assistant doesn't work Thursdays or Fridays. A referral was put in for a gastroenterologist so right now I wait for them to call me to get on their schedule. I see my regular primary care physician on the 10th. I have a long list of questions for him.😊
I had planned on eating at home and possibly getting in a little exercise before work but I ended up going out with my dad and a family friend to let me know about the results.
I see I have some catching up to do on the posts here and the ones in the January thread.😁4 -
