Here is your Team chat room for July 2020. This is where you weigh in every week, post your goals and progress, discuss any issues or topics of interest, share ideas, support your teammates, receive help when you need it, and dream big. Try to post every day, and help each other succeed!
We have six great teams. The group and team leaders are as follows:
Our Moderators:
Liselyn - @jugar
Beka - @Beka3695
Teresa - @TeresaW1020
Our Team Captains:
Mission Slimpossibles - @broncobuddee and @TeresaW1020
Trimstones - @mulecanter and @jessicakrall8
Weight No More - @1theresamcvean and @cafelelia
Waist Aways - @jugar and @micki48
Shrinking Assets - @Boehle and @beka3695
Downsizers - @lindamtuck2018 and @mari_moulin
Our Team Motivators:
Mission Slimpossibles - @AustinRuadhain @katmary71 and @raleighgirl09
Trimstones - @Emmajhare and @angmarie28
Weight No More - @GingerPwr
Waist Aways - @Terytha and @conleywoods
Shrinking Assets - @hipari
Downsizers - @Marigorringo and @Megan_smartiepants1970
HOW IT ALL WORKS:
Every challenger weighs in on their chosen day, every week without fail! At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also track those small, steady losses with the Green Week count. If you lose, however small an amount, it counts for 1 week in the green. The total will be by month, and cumulative - so you can really rack them up and get to your goal even if you never hit the top of the leader board.
In an effort to recognize accomplishments, we are using an optional addition to the weigh in format called LOSS TO DATE or LTD. Please just leave this new line off if you do not want to participate. Here is the new format:
Username
Weigh In Day
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
LTD (Loss to Date):
If you need a week off, a break, a change of weigh-in day - just ask your Captain here on your team chat page. If you take a break, you are moved to the Support Team. If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to ask if you are travelling, sick, or just needing some time off. You can remain on the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions and weigh in if you want to, but your weigh-ins will not be counted on the weekly tally.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the elite Goal Zone! After hitting your goal, you need support to stay there, and you can help your teammates join you. You must continue to weigh in every week, and if you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team!
In addition to your own team, there are F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month begin!!

Welcome to August! This will be our home, where all of our triumphs and challenges take place. Please introduce yourselves and set some goals and daily actions for the month. A good focus on the small every day stuff will get you where you want to go!
I am Liselyn, co-captain along with@micki48. I live in rural Québec, about 85 miles east of Montreal, and I'm a retired university professor of music. I haven't retired from being a musician, but these days the performance opportunities are zero! I still have a few projects in the fire... My weight loss story? After being somewhat overweight for most of my life, I really packed on quite a lot while in an admin job that involved a lot of sitting, meetings, travel, and meals. I tried many times to lose, but it was not until I was 58 that I got really serious with both food and exercise, and lost 40 pounds. I have been in a good zone for 8 years now, always refining and figuring out the things that work best, and making sure I don't have to do it all over again. Yes, it is possible to lose weight and get in shape during and after menopause!
I know there are people on this team who have a lot to lose, others who have lost a lot and are closing in on their goals, and others who are working on losses that are stubbornly resisting. There is a lot of wisdom here, and the most important lesson we learn from each other time and time again is that it is not a straight shot, there will be trials and errors, but sticking with it when it feels like you have fallen off yet again is the best thing you can do for yourself. Plateaus can be good, but going back the way you came is not!
Some helpful information/tools:
Posting your daily updates
We know from experience that posting daily (or as often as you can!) makes a huge difference to your success. Use any format you like to let everyone know how you are doing on your daily goals and habits. You can report on food, exercise, water, sleep, or whatever you are tracking and trying to stick with. While you're there, talk about how you are, ask questions, and if you can answer someone else, please do! Congratulate others, commiserate, enjoy someone's rant, or go ahead and rant yourself. It all helps make the kind of community where we are in each others' heads when the hand is reaching for that off-plan snack, or the couch is feeling way too inviting...
Weighing in
Please try to weigh in on time! When you post, put your weigh in at the TOP of a message, so it is clear and easy to find. If you cannot post your weight for whatever reason, please request a week off, or if you need a longer break, you can request to move to the "Support Team" where you can still participate but your weigh-ins will not be part of the weekly tally. This is where members who are ill, on vacation, or just needing a break can hang out for as long as needed.
If you are getting close to goal, you will soon be on the Goal Zone Team! Maintenance takes work, and this is where it happens. You will get good at staying where you have worked so hard to get.
So let the introductions roll!3 -
Hi to all the new Waistaways. I'm Sylvia from Massachusetts. Getting close to my weight goal but have hit a few weeks of glitches. Like @deniners2 , I'm looking for that wagon to crawl back on ....and weigh and log everything!!
on to August!!5 -
Hello everyone in the Waistaway group! I'm new to this challenge and hoping to lose 12lb in this month which will take me down to 180lb - a nice round number.
When I first used MFP in 2017, I started at 217lb and I'm only 5'2". Got down to 189lb and then fell pregnant with my daughter.
I've been fluctuating the past few years between 182-189lb and I'm finally committing to this challenge to lose the rest. Thats a 72lb loss that I need to do to get right in the middle of my ideal weight and BMI.
So what have I done? The past week I started cycling to work and back 3x a week and ive also joined an online pole fitness centre during the pandemic which does classes on abs, stretching, conditioning and splits. I'm hoping to be able to attend all these live classes and incorporate resistance training on other days to get more defined.
Today is my first starting day and I'm feeling hopeful. I need to stop feeling to sluggish and horrible.9 -
welcome @theweeonemfp ! i’ve only been here a few days but this is a great group
today has been,,,,,,, interesting. I wasn’t able to meet my calorie goal because of food repulsion (drinking water was a struggle but I got a cup in at least) but I also didn’t even take 2,000 steps and got up minimally. I haven’t lost weight in a few days so maybe that will actually happen tomorrow? I don’t know, I might not be able to reach my exercise goal for this week but i’m going to try and go in the pool for a little bit tomorrow to get that last day of active movement in.6 -
Happy last day of the July challenge, and eve of the first day of the August challenge!
A lot of us have had a wobbly July, so we're aiming for a stronger August. Realistic goals are key! @theweeonemfp you might want to keep your August goal to 8 pounds. Losing more than 2 pounds a week frequently leads to the bounce-back effect. I have been the spreadsheet keeper for F2F for quite a while now, and I have seen this over and over. A huge enthusiasm and great "whoosh" leads too often to a crash. I strongly suggest you adjust your calorie deficit (amount in vs amount burned) so that you can sustain it for a long time. Regular smaller losses week after week are very effective. Biking to work is a fantastic idea, though. Enjoy that!
@thinfairy2020 - I hope you can get back to eating today - don't worry about the weight part for a few days. Get around some really healthy food (lots of veg!), take a good walk, and your system will straighten itself back out, I hope!
And Sylvia! @eggfreak yes. This past coupla weeks have been something to leave behind a closed door. Do that one perfect day, and the wagon will stop by for sure4 -

Hi and welcome to all our new team members. We have a great team here. I’m Michele, living in the US state of North Carolina for the last 9 years. I’ve been married 37 years as of July. I have two grown children, a daughter, 32 and son, 29. And I’m Mom Mom to one amazing 2 year old granddaughter, who I watch full time while her mommy & daddy work. I taught elementary school for 25+ years before watching her.
I am 56 and find weight loss way slower than it used to be. But like @jugar said and many others have proven, it can be done even at this time in one’s life.
My all time high was 223.5 back in April of 2018. I am starting August at 192.4. I have been there more or less for months!! I was down to 188.x back in March, but the last few months have had little net gains. I need to do something different this month.
I have been with this wonderful group since February of 2019. I am co-captain with @jugar but by no means her equal. She is the brains and brawn here. 😉 I help out with support and running the step challenge. If you are interested in participating, let me know on the thread, then post your steps here daily or all at once by the end of the week(and exercise if you want it to be translated to steps). Please tell me your daily step goal as well. Mine is 8.5k steps daily.
Also if you’re on Fitbit, let us know your username or email and you can join us for daily/weekly challenges. They are quite fun and motivating. At the end of each week, I will post results of our step challenge with total steps and top steppers. So who’s in?
Glad to have our new members and to continue with all the wonderful Waistaways teammates. Let’s go!😁👟🎉

Hi everyone and welcome to our new members. I'm Rhonda from Texas. I'm 51, divorced, no kids, an elementary assistant principal and working on my doctorate in educational leadership. I'm also an associate pastor and singer/musician in my church. As you can imagine, I stay extremely busy all the time. So I'll apologize in advance for my sporadic posts throughout the month. But please know that I'm still plugging away at my weight loss journey, even though the struggle is real. I support everyone's challenges and celebrate your victories. As the motto is in the US during this pandemic, "We're all in this together."
Here is my goal for August: I downloaded one of my 30-day challenge charts from chartyourgoals.com and decided that August 1-30 would be my 30-day Calorie Deficit Challenge. I'm committing (again) to having a calorie deficit greater than 100 each day this month. I realize that having a deficit will mean that either I eat less or exercise more and that I have to continue logging everything I eat. Doing nothing won't create a deficit. So something's gotta give this month!
I will use the F2F Habit Tracker, but in case I forget to log in (highly likely), I'll be charting my progress at home too. Happy August everyone!

@micki48 Here are my steps for July 26 - August 1. I didn't know if you were still checking the July thread, so that's why I posted them here to close out the July step challenge. Thanks for all you do.

@micki48 my user name for fitbit is Samantha G. Aiming for 10k steps a day2

Good morning, I'm in on the step challenge this month. Rhonda challenges me weekly on the workweek hustle on fitbit - I wish it were the weekend hustle, ha, I'm much busier in the garden those days. Checked the scale this morning and it hasn't moved, and I would really like to reach my goal by the end of the month - 6.5 more pounds...totally doable IF I get my focus back. Logging has been lax and I definitely credit the weighing all my food and the logging for the 30+ pounds loss since Jan.
I just had a 'dry July', thanks for that challenge @jugar. Had a glass of wine last night but am thinking of pushing the 'dry' for another month - anyone want to join me? (@ells_runs ?) Enter in the August habit tracker.3 -

Hi, I'm Pearl, 37, live in the UK and very busy with young kids and studying for a masters in mental health. I have dieted on and off my whole adult life and really would like to find something that works long term. I have a terrible sweet tooth and I tend to snack absentmindedly without taking any notice what goes into my mouth. So half the battle is in my head.
I've been in this fabulous team before and had some success but then decided to take a break with the aim to maintain. That worked for awhile, until lockdown
So I'm back to try and work off the lockdown re-gains and then hopefully to lose the rest of my excess weight.
Good luck everyone! Here's to a great August!
@jugar did you get my new starting weight? (Posted in the July thread)2 -

Hi All,
I’m a 40 year old female from Quebec. I recently decided to go back to school. So will be applying to grad schools in psychology this year. Last year, I wrote a thesis on teacher emotional exhaustion and currently taking a creative writing course to get back into one of my previous loves: writing.
I was doing really well maintaining and losing weight for several years, but then last year, I injured my wrist, my shoulder , winter happened, got derailed from my workouts, then started eating out more frequently and other. And I went from my lowest and healthiest weight in a while of 155 lbs, to my highest at 200 lbs. I’m also a very short person at 5’3.
I’d like to to lose it all this month, but I’ll set it at 8 pounds.
@eggfreak I’m up for a dry/arrid august.
@Micki48 Wish I had fitbit but I do have a step counter. And would like to translate my exercise into steps. Unsure about coversion rates, but for now, I’ll set mine at 10,000 and add myself to the list.
My main forms of exercise are rollerblading and biking. I also sometimes do hiit, yoga or lift weights at home. I’d like to add some walking too, not sure how much yet. I have been working from home since March. I’ll also be tracking my food, aiming for 1500-1600 calories a day.
Those are the main things. Thanks for sharing the link to the habit tracker and good to meet everyone! @jugar Thanks for all the help, and adding me to this group!

CG here on an acreage in rural NE Alberta. I’m 61, married and basically retired. Over the years I let everyone else’s priorities take precedence over my health, hence did not find time for exercise or weight loss. When I was 59 I decided that had to change and I started strength training with a personal trainer which had really helped my muscles but had not done anything for my weight. When COVID-19 hit and the gyms closed I decided to use this time to focus on weight loss. I started logging everything here on MFP and joined this group in May. I love the accountability and encouragement I get here.
I topped out at 200.2 in March and my starting weight this month is 171.2. I’m 5’4” and my goal is 150 but I’ll see how that feels when I get there.
Welcome to all the newcomers! Let’s make August special and end summer with a bang!
4 -
Before I set August goals, I need to look back at July:
Start weight 176.4 and end weight 171.2 for an average loss of 1 lb/wk. Not quite the 1.5 I’m set up for but I had one really bad snack attack week last month, which I need to work to avoid in August.
Tracker goals were:
#1 Log everything and stay within +/- 50 calories of my daily allotment – scored 77% green
#2 Participate in some physical activity AND POST IT HERE – scored 74% green
I did log every day; the challenge was being in the +/- 50 window. Snacking did not help! This is however the best I’ve done on the exercise goal since I started with Waistaways. In previous months I had tracked the 3 Mini Habits and thought last month I had them ingrained into my routines so I wouldn’t need to track them anymore. WRONG!! They went completely out the window so I learned if I don’t track it I don’t do it.
So with all that in mind, my goals for August:
#1 Log everything and stay within +/- 5o calories of my daily allotment
#2 Participate in some physical activity AND POST IT HERE!
#3 Complete 3 Mini Health Habits daily
