Hi All,
I’m a 40 year old female from Quebec. I recently decided to go back to school. So will be applying to grad schools in psychology this year. Last year, I wrote a thesis on teacher emotional exhaustion and currently taking a creative writing course to get back into one of my previous loves: writing.
I was doing really well maintaining and losing weight for several years, but then last year, I injured my wrist, my shoulder , winter happened, got derailed from my workouts, then started eating out more frequently and other. And I went from my lowest and healthiest weight in a while of 155 lbs, to my highest at 200 lbs. I’m also a very short person at 5’3.
I’d like to to lose it all this month, but I’ll set it at 8 pounds.
@eggfreak I’m up for a dry/arrid august.
@Micki48 Wish I had fitbit but I do have a step counter. And would like to translate my exercise into steps. Unsure about coversion rates, but for now, I’ll set mine at 10,000 and add myself to the list.
My main forms of exercise are rollerblading and biking. I also sometimes do hiit, yoga or lift weights at home. I’d like to add some walking too, not sure how much yet. I have been working from home since March. I’ll also be tracking my food, aiming for 1500-1600 calories a day.
Those are the main things. Thanks for sharing the link to the habit tracker and good to meet everyone! @jugar Thanks for all the help, and adding me to this group!

Also if you’re on Fitbit, let us know your username or email and you can join us for daily/weekly challenges. They are quite fun and motivating. At the end of each week, I will post results of our step challenge with total steps and top steppers. So who’s in?
Glad to have our new members and to continue with all the wonderful Waistaways teammates. Let’s go!😁👟🎉

CG here on an acreage in rural NE Alberta. I’m 61, married and basically retired. Over the years I let everyone else’s priorities take precedence over my health, hence did not find time for exercise or weight loss. When I was 59 I decided that had to change and I started strength training with a personal trainer which had really helped my muscles but had not done anything for my weight. When COVID-19 hit and the gyms closed I decided to use this time to focus on weight loss. I started logging everything here on MFP and joined this group in May. I love the accountability and encouragement I get here.
I topped out at 200.2 in March and my starting weight this month is 171.2. I’m 5’4” and my goal is 150 but I’ll see how that feels when I get there.
Welcome to all the newcomers! Let’s make August special and end summer with a bang!

Before I set August goals, I need to look back at July:
Start weight 176.4 and end weight 171.2 for an average loss of 1 lb/wk. Not quite the 1.5 I’m set up for but I had one really bad snack attack week last month, which I need to work to avoid in August.
Tracker goals were:
#1 Log everything and stay within +/- 50 calories of my daily allotment – scored 77% green
#2 Participate in some physical activity AND POST IT HERE – scored 74% green
I did log every day; the challenge was being in the +/- 50 window. Snacking did not help! This is however the best I’ve done on the exercise goal since I started with Waistaways. In previous months I had tracked the 3 Mini Habits and thought last month I had them ingrained into my routines so I wouldn’t need to track them anymore. WRONG!! They went completely out the window so I learned if I don’t track it I don’t do it.
So with all that in mind, my goals for August:
#1 Log everything and stay within +/- 5o calories of my daily allotment
#2 Participate in some physical activity AND POST IT HERE!
#3 Complete 3 Mini Health Habits daily

Hi everyone I'm Jackie and I've been a member of this team for a few months now. I live with my husband of 8 years and our cat in Michigan, USA. I work as a therapist for mental health and addictions which requires a lot of sitting 😬 we recently started transitioning back into the office for some face to face visits which means I walk a little bit more on those days.
My main reason for wanting to lose weight is to be healthier and have a baby. We've been trying for our first since August 2018. It's been very challenging as I have PCOS, which also makes weight loss a struggle. I had lost over 40lbs (from 269lbs to about 226lbs) but between fertility meds, holidays, and then COVID-19 stress and gym closure I gained some back (up to 245-ish back in April). I've been trying for the past few months to get out of the 240's and got a little bit closer to that goal in July.
I'm very grateful for this team keeping me accountable and offering support. I probably would have given up by now if it were not for that!
For August I really want to be out of the 240s. To get there, I need to maintain a calorie deficit and have a decent amount of physical activity. I like the idea of @evangsimmons170 30-day calorie deficit challenge and I'm going to adopt that for myself with a little bit of moderation, I'll be happy with any calorie deficit as long as I'm not eating more than 100 exercise calories each day. My current calorie goal is 1450/day so that allows me no more than 1550 on the days I'm more physically active. I'm also going to continue my goal of 3 days of intentional exercise each week and get back on track with my daily step goal which I will specify in another post.4 -
Greetings my wonderful team!
My name is Kristi and I am 38 and live in the US in Washington state. I have been married to my awesome husband for 13 years and we have 3 elementary aged kids. We are a very active family and like to be outdoors.
My highest weight was 255 in Feb 2019 and currently I'm 214.6. The weight gain was a combo of stress, pregnancies and hormone stuff. I started with noom which really helped me get my thinking straight (I'm a recovering perfectionist/all or nothing/black and white thinker) I started with this group in December 2019 and find the support and encouragement so helpful. It gives such a realistic view of what real weight loss actually looks like. It's slow, takes lots of dedication and a willingness to get up when you fail and try again.
Things I want to work on in August! I'm having a hard time coming up with stuff this month. My husband and I both work for the schools and we are not sure what fall will look like. My husband might become a stay at home dad and we would be a single income family. We have planned ahead for this situation but still scary 😳. I have discontinued my streaming workouts and purchased dvds or streaming videos that I have unlimited access too. My home workout equipment is well stocked so I won't miss a workout. I love Rhonda's chart and focusing on a 100 calorie deficit. I also want to watch the stress level this month. I anticipate that could really derail me.3 -
Let's have a big shout out to these lovely people hitting some major milestones!!!!

Hi team! My name is Amber, I'm 32 and I live in the extremely roasted prairies of Western Canada. This heat wave is intense, I'm definitely feeling more like a puddle than a person.
My highest weight was recorded at 276 and my lowest, last week, at 175. Today I'm up a bit but we had pancakes for dinner last night so that's probably to be expected.
In August I suppose I'm just trying to get down to, or possibly even below, 170. Gotta get my water intake back up too, I trailed off with that since I wasn't feeling well. My Covid test came back negative though so it's just a small summer flu.6 -
Hello All,

Wow! Sundays are so crazy. I spend the morning doing the tallies, getting the spreadsheets all up to date, figuring out which challenge to set up for the week, and then you all post like crazy! It is a LOT of a good thing. Luckily it is only one day a week, and today is rainy and dull outside anyhow
I'll try to catch up a bit!
@Cerizez - thanks for the update! We could have used that loss of yours to make our week look a bit better, but no worries. Better late than never, and you are doing great!
@jguldi11 for someone in a funk and not feeling too great, you did well last week! Nice loss, even if you wish it were more, green is green!
@tobeme3 welcome! It is great to have someone else from Québec in the group - there is even hope we might meet some day. Sounds like you had some tough injuries, and then (as you say) winter happened. Well, you are here now and I think this group could really help you keep the calories in under control, and the calories burned burning! If you even want to come out to the Townships to bike, let me know - my son is a biking fanatic and knows all the good places to go. I'm more of a moderate biker - but we do have good trails of all kinds. Which university were you or are you going to? I taught at Concordia for 37 years, so I know lots of profs from all the universities in town.
@Terytha - and probably @CanadianGiraffe - keep cool! Heatwaves are not fun, but at least up where you are, it can't last TOO long
Welcome to one more new member! @BaileyCat88 will be along shortly
Keep well, everyone - I really have to get outside now that there seems to be a break in the rain. Check out the week 1 challenge!

@jugar thank you, to be honest the weight loss this week was a bit of a surprise, a good one of course!
I just realized I didn't formally welcome all our new/returning teammates - so WELCOME!!
🎆👋😁👍🎉
You will find so much support and encouragement here!
A friend inspired me to go to the gym with her and I feel so much better getting a workout in. I'm meeting friends for dinner tomorrow and I plan on scoping out the menu today so I can plan ahead. I find this is the best way to avoid over-indulging.
I looked at the challenge for the week; the person I find inspiring is @evangsimmons170 as she encourages me (and many others!) to be active with the Fitbit challenges.5 -
A good day for me. Went for a swim in the pond this morning. 90m of open water. Was pretty amazing but not for the squeamish (fish, ducks and loads of algae). So refreshing.
Then went to an outside class tonight, worked hard.
I didn't log but I'm pretty sure I stayed under my calorie limit as I had no time to eat much.5
