Weigh in Apple852hk
Week 3 - Sept 2020 Sunday
PW 135.8lbs (61.6kg)
CW 135.5 (61.5kg)
Lost - just. More maintaining this week.
Walked most evenings and even a 14 mile (20km) walk. But then I ate a whole Big Mac meal as family were treating. I don't think it made a difference, it's just not a good mindset.
Devoured the bag of fudge. I can't recall if it was that tasty. It was just sugar.
Finished all the 6 pieces of frozen mackeral. I've achieved my goal to eat mackeral. I'll try and eat the beetroot tart I made which I have 5 slices left.
GOAL
1. Eat 2 heads of broccoli this week
2. Dig at the allotment for 1hr every afternoon instead of evening walk
Have a great week ahead🥰4 -

I have no idea how I lost 3.4 pounds, but I'll take it! I'm thinking the past few days of less salt and adding walking are probably what helped. I'm so tired of yo-yo'ing. I am going to really focus and take it one day at a time.
Happy Sunday!6 -
@vegan4lyfe2012 Wahhhhoooo on your weigh-in this week! Focusing on one day at a time is really the best way to go.
@apple852hk Yayyy for your loss this week! Girl, if you can’t recall if a bag of fudge was tasty means you shouldn’t be eating it! But I have totally done it too and will probably do it again. Sugar is the Devil!!
@Katmary71 Good to read that your pain seems to be doing a little bit better and that you are keeping your legs up. Yesterday our weather was amazing, and our neighborhood was filled with noise from people out working in their yards. My DH scrubbed our entire back porch and the furniture. New screens come tomorrow!!
@GabiV125 I am so glad to read that you are having a relaxing weekend at the lake. I can imagine how lovely that must be.
@Hilogirl2018 Thank you, I haven’t had a whoosh in forever! I am doing the same as you and working hard to limit my sugar but not cut it out entirely. The great thing about IF is that it really does help with inflammation, so we can enjoy our treats. In moderation of course!
@Cornanda Yayyy for your great weight in!! And good for you for getting in your veggies! And thank you for the congratulations.
Good morning! I thought I better come on today or it wasn’t going to happen. I am teaching children’s church this morning and doing a lesson on kindness. Then this afternoon hubby and I are going to our pastor home for a staff end of the summer party. It was supposed to be a pool party but it’s really chilly today so we will see who is brave enough to get in. NOT me!! I’ve had to make a decision about my newest workout program, which is boxing/weight lifting. I think it might be the cause of my reoccurring back pain. I have this one little spot on the lower left side that keeps flaring up. It could be my office chair, but I don’t think it is. The boxing is three days a week and there is so much twisting and turning over and over again that I think is just too much for my back. Anyway, I’m taking the next two days off from workouts to give my back a rest, and then I will figure out what to do. Have a great day!6 -

@vegan4lyfe2012 That's awesome! And I may have to steal your breakfast idea, that sounds delicious. Great weigh-in, congrats!
@Cornanda You are inspiring me to add more veggies into my diet. WTG! Congrats on getting 1st place, woo hoo!!!
@Hilogirl2018 Yeah, unfortunately. I have been waking up every 30 minutes for the first 4-5 hours of sleep for the past 1-2 years now. It is hard. I wake up feeling foggy and unfocused. I remain tired all day. I try to take a nap and that helps (sometimes as early as 10 am on the weekend). Enjoy the salad, it's mighty tasty!
@GabiV125 A weekend away at a lake house sounds wonderful, enjoy!
@Katmary71 It was delicious! It's easy to fall into stress eating when people upset us. Especially when we are on the edge about other things. I hope those people get back to you soon. I love camping, it's so nice to be out in nature and forget about the "real" world. I hope you get to go. Does your guy like to go?
@TeresaW1020 I think you are wise to listen to your body.
Hello all! I'm trying this new thing (for me) where I set 1 goal a week to work on in addition to my monthly goals. I post a sticky note with my goal on my computer so I can look at it every day and I also put my goal for the week in my Google Calendar so it's pretty much everywhere. Last week's was "Before I eat anything, ask myself if I'm really hungry." I did pretty well on that one. This week's is going to be a bit tougher, it is "Leave 3 bites of food on my plate each meal." You see, I'm a card-carrying member of the clean plate club, so it's going to take some getting used to!

@trooworld- your last week goal made me think of this..... WW meeting discussed being "green bean hungry"...... if you are hungry enough to eat a green bean, then you are really, actually hungry.5

@apple852hk Yay, you lost! I hear ya about sometimes just eating something for the basics of it such as with the chocolate. I've been doing that with fat the last couple nights, for some reason I crave it every once and awhile these days then totally overdo it. I didn't crave fat once last year, wonder if it's something with the body or if it's more emotional?
@vegan4lyfe2012 Yes, you're already showing a difference, way to go! It's awesome starting out with results right away, helps us know we're making the right choices!
@TeresaW1020 Have a wonderful time with the kids! Sounds like a good plan with your back, a couple days off will show you if it's the twisting from boxing doing it or not. If you can still do it maybe you can make modifications to the workouts so you don't have to stop. It became a game for me for awhile there on how I could modify all these high impact videos into low impact so I didn't flare my back up when I was doing them. Some I just had to admit I couldn't handle which always drove me nuts but what can you do?
@Cornanda @raleighgirl09 @jazzagirl30 GO girlfriends, you're slayin it! Woot Woot!
@trooworld Good luck with leaving food on your plate, that would be tough for me too! I'd be grounded pulling that as a kid, LOL! I've talked about camping with the guy I'm seeing but we haven't done anything aside of grocery shop and go to the dump together at this point. How backwards is that, we reconnected in March and he (and his cats) spent a lot of that time at my house but we've never been on an actual date. He said he'd hike with me but I can't do it right now though he has a place he wants to take me. It's definitely not like any relationship I've ever had!

Was on my own this weekend and I'm tired and bored of everything. Same workouts, same music, same chair to elevate my legs, same 4 walls, etc. Back to phone calls tomorrow, doctor appointment this week (we're not getting anywhere with any of her referrals but I want to see if she'd try for allergy testing or a GI doctor too), and hounding my professor in one class as she hasn't responded to me since Thursday and I have a month's of catching up to conquer here! Honestly, I think if there's an over-reaching theme of the last 6 months it's that I don't have control over a single thing and the more I try the worse it gets and that I need to learn patience. Of course I'm figuring out what I should tweak next to wrangle control of all this, haha!4 -
@Cornanda I often use something similar: Am I hungry enough to eat an apple? I like "Green bean hungry" lol
@petrocoetsee Congrats on the loss, fantastic!
@Katmary71 It was tough going yesterday. Eating all of my food is such an ingrained thing. At brunch, I automatically ate it all. Then at dinner, I was able to leave my 3 bites. Well, it's a weird time for this world, you reconnected in the bizzaro period of the world, so I commend you for being able to have a newish relationship during the quarantine. It can't be easy. I love that he brings his cats to your house! I'm sure your kitties love it (do you have more than 1?).
Hello everyone! I did pretty well with leaving food on my plate yesterday. I bombed brunch (no food left) but left about 3 bites in my bowl at dinner. The trick is REMEMBERING to do it.

It's been a pretty good week. I'm doing well with swimming despite the fact that the weather (and the water) is getting cooler. I'm up to 21 hours and 47 minutes worth of swimming this month, and I haven't done today's swim yet. We're supposed to have rain and 60-degree days Tuesday and most of Wednesday, so I'm glad that I have more than an hour/day average right now. I'm going to try to get some extra swimming in today in case I miss out over the next two days.
This week I also tried to focus on something my old Weight Watchers leader said in a meeting one time. People view losing weight as just a few decisions each day, but there are hundreds of decisions every day, and we need to give ourselves credit for our good decisions. It's not just about what we put in our mouths at meals, but all the other things we do: how close to the door did you park at the store, did you take stairs or elevator, what did you do when bored/tired/depressed/celebrating, and so many more. It's less about the margarita you enjoyed while relaxing by the pool (I did that one evening this week) and more about all those other choices.
@apple852hk Nice loss! You are a better person than me with the broccoli goal. I just can't do it.
@vegan4lyfe2012 Whoosh! That's some loss! Congrats!
@TeresaW1020 Awesome milestone! You must be floating on air right now! I hope you get things figured out with your back. Do you have a foam roller? That might help if you have a knot in a muscle.
@trooworld I like your idea of setting one goal a week. Are you going to be continuing previous weeks' goals forward from week to week?
@petrocoetsee Great loss! Congrats!
@Katmary71 I need to learn patience, too. I get so bored with the same 4 walls that it seems like I might go bonkers, but I got out of the house with my daughters this past weekend, and it helped. We played Pokemon Go together and stayed mostly in the car, but it was nice to see different scenery.

Can’t say I’m surprised by the weight gain....really need to refocus🥺 the weather is much better outside now so I need to push myself to get out there. If I was just disciplined enough I should have lost about 10 pounds already from when I first started...so upset with myself☹️4 -
@Katmary71 I'm sorry about the nightshades. Elimination diets can be so disappointing when you have already have had to give up so much due to chronic pain.
@vegan4lyfe2012 You lost 3+ pounds, that's awesome!
@TeresaW1020 I agree, IF does more for my inflammation than any other way of eating I've tried (keto, paleo, various anti-inflammatory diets), so I still get to have my sugar without causing a major flare. I hope your back feels better soon. As a lifelong back pain sufferer (I started carrying a lumbar pillow when I was 12!), I get nervous when I hear about someone beginning to have back pain. I'm super protective of other people's backs lol! Glad you are planning to take some time off your boxing workouts. Nothing is worth accidentally causing a back injury.
@Cornanda Congratulations on an honorable mention for last week AND first place in our group! Never heard of green bean hungry, I love that! So important to be in tune with true hunger.
@raleighgirl09 Second place last week, awesome!
@jazzagirl30 yay on 3rd place!
@trooworld I love your sticky note goal idea. Your "Before I eat anything, ask myself if I'm really hungry" quote is similar to a phrase that's been helpful to me recently, and I think I've mentioned it here before: If hunger isn't the problem, food isn't the solution. Total gamechanger for me to think this way! The '3 bites of food' one would be tougher for me because I'm weighing and logging all my food to the nearest gram/ounce, so what I've measured out is what I need to make sure I'm getting 1200 calories. Would probably be a good strategy for the times when I can't weigh my portions, like dining out (not that I do that anymore!).
@buniphuphu So much swimming! What a nice message: we have to give ourselves credit for all the hundreds of good decisions we make all day.
My Saturday weigh-in was unfortunately a fluctuation- I was 'up' by 2 lbs, but I just knew it wasn't an accurate reflection of where I was. Sure enough, the next day I was down 2, and again this morning. At 140-point-something, I'm *so* close to seeing the 130s again! Maybe even this week.3 -
@Hilogirl2018 - I am so happy to check in here and see those bolded words of yours staring me in the face:
If hunger isn't the problem, food isn't the solution.
What a great reminder!
@anido1 - I so get your frustration about those past choices. It's so easy to beat ourselves up with shoulds. For me, I have to start small and celebrate the tiny wins, and then look to see the momentum build up. Is there anything you little thing you can choose today to be a "must do," and then celebrate that?
I have been noshing too much the last couple of weeks, comfort eating with all the extra things going on (post-project crash, doing extra since my husband got injured, the start of teaching an online class), and I just can't keep that up or I'll be buying bigger pants before I know it. Heck no to that! So today, was a get-back-on-track day for me. My big must-do think was weigh/track all the food and have everything be a food choice I was happy with. I was so happy I had that dine at end of day that exercise was kind of a bonus.
@Jactop - Great weigh-in! Seeing you knock the weigh down -- holding steady some weeks, going down some weeks, is just so impressive!
@buniphuphu - Man, you are killing it!
And, wow, these words of yours are gold. Thank you!.
@trooworld - I love your 3 bites game!
@Katmary71 - I am laughing and sympathetic (sending you a virtual hug) and also taking these words to heart. Lessons in here for me, too, for sure:Honestly, I think if there's an over-reaching theme of the last 6 months it's that I don't have control over a single thing and the more I try the worse it gets and that I need to learn patience. Of course I'm figuring out what I should tweak next to wrangle control of all this, haha!

@trooworld Way to go on leaving a few bites of brunch! It's funny when you do that, it's like the food is taunting you to eat it and clean your plate. I have two cats, they're brothers. I lasted probably 15 seconds after the rescue group asked if I would take the brother as well, haha, pretty pathetic!
@buniphuphu You definitely didn't let that snake stop you, you're tearing it up in that pool! I'm so glad you were able to get out. Even if it's just going in the backyard for a short time it makes a difference.
@AustinRuadhain Funny when I saw that you posted I wanted to give you a hug and look at that avatar, LOL! Glad you're back on track today, you're the most consistent person I know so I'm not worried about you at all, you got this!5 -

@AustinRuadhain Glad to see you checking in! I totally agree with Katmary71 and I’m not worried about you either. You know exactly what to do to keep those pants fitting perfectly. Be kind to yourself during these stressful times.
@Hilogirl2018 I just got a lumbar cushion for my office chair to see if that helps and I have a pillow for the couch. I have been researching and I’m convinced that it is sciatic nerve pain. I have all the correct symptoms. The twisting and turning wildly during the boxing program definitely didn’t help me. I’m going to look up specific exercises to do and commit myself to them. Weight fluctuations are frustrating but we know they happen. You will see those 130’s soon!!
@anido1 I totally get that you are upset with yourself. I have had those exact conversations with myself often. But it really doesn’t do us any favors to beat ourselves up. Make a commitment to yourself that even if you stumble along the way, you will NEVER give up trying. I really think that is the most important key to gaining success. Now get outside and enjoy this weather!
@Jactop Wayyyy to hold it steady!
@buniphuphu Totally agree with that WW leader!! It really is about the everyday choices we make and yet we will focus on our indulgence to the point of beating the crap out of ourselves instead of patting ourselves on the back for all the good choices we make. Why is it so easy to give positive feedback to others and we so struggle doing it to ourselves? Good job on all that swimming and for your weight loss this week!
@trooworld I LOVE the new goals that you are setting for yourself each week. I am also a card-carrying member of the clean plate club and that doesn’t help at all when I’m trying to learn to eat until satisfied and not stuff it all in. I’m going to join you this week and will go make my sticky notes right now!! Maybe we should tie a string around a finger on our eating hand so we will remember.
@Cornanda “green bean hungry” is awesome! I’m stealing that idea too!! I really want to extend my fasting past when my body starts griping for food. I will ask myself if I’m hungry enough to eat a green bean before I beak my fast. I don’t like green beans very much so that is a good food choice. How are you doing this week?
Good morning team! Yesterday I took my mom out shopping and we ended up eating out at Cracker Barrel and my fasting schedule and low carb went right out the window. I don’t feel guilty about it because mom gets out so rarely and she enjoyed the food and the shopping. She bought me the cutest snowman I have EVER seen! I am getting geared to decorate for Christmas! I was going to start back to working out today but instead hubby and I are going to paint the concrete floor of our new screened-in porch. Georgia dirt has stained much of it red and I think painting it will make the whole room look so much prettier and easier to clean. I’m hoping that my back doesn’t suffer too much. Between the back and my aching tooth, I’m starting to worry that I’m going to OD on Advil. Mom keeps offering me one of her pain pills but I’m holding off in case I really need it. Have a good day!

@buniphuphu Congrats on the loss! Fabulous. And you are doing great with the swimming, very consistent. I think what your old WW leader said is spot on. So many people focus on the big things but they forget about the small things that add up to big things. And yes, when I started my new goal this week, I continued my previous week's goal. It seems to be working out pretty well so far! A week of concentrating on just one goal at a time seems to be enough to remember it lol.
@Hilogirl2018 Yes! That is a very important one to ask yourself. Yeah, I can see the 3 bites being a problem but you could come up with a different one, like, "I will put my fork down between bites" or "I will sip water between bites" or whatever you can think of. I'm glad that 2 lbs went away, I had a feeling it would, too!
@AustinRuadhain It working for me so far! How's your husband?
@Katmary71 Yes exactly! LOL I would probably do the very same thing with the brothers, I love animals and am such a softy! I'm glad they were able to stay together.
@TeresaW1020 You know my struggle! LOL Yes, a string is a good idea but then I'd be like, "What's this string for?" LOL It is getting easier to remember. Something goes off in my head when I see the food "DING DING DING..you have a goal to leave 3 bites on your plate!". I'm glad you had fun shopping. Christmas shopping already? lol I hope your back holds out for the porch painting.

Thank you all for the encouraging words last week. I took them all to heart. The advice that rang true the most for me was focusing on one thing and sticking to that commitment. I committed to myself that I will use my rower 3 days a week (succeeded last week, yay). Another piece was committing to getting myself out of my funk. I did get an increase in my meds, but also am working on accomplishing something every day. Not just going home and watching tv for 4 hours, but exercising, or doing dishes, or playing a game, visiting with my family. I even got myself a cross stitch beginner kit! My spirits are much better, my kitchen is organized, my closet is organized! I did not lose weight this week, but I did some self care, so it's a plus. Happy Fall!8 -
@trooworld - After saying the 3 bites thing wouldn't work for me, I totally did it last night lol! I had a fast food meal budgeted for dinner and started with a salad. When I got toward the end of my meal, I found I didn't want/need everything left on my plate. I'm sure I left at least 3 bites! I think this is sort of a middle ground for me: since I pre-log my meals, I'm making a solid plan for staying within my calories. But once I'm eating, I don't need to necessarily stuff it in- I still want to get in tune with actual hunger/satiety.
@AustinRuadhain I'm glad the reminder was helpful! Sure has been for me. I actually used it yesterday. I was getting super frustrated and I had a piece of chocolate next to me and almost went for it but stopped myself because I thought, Hey, this isn't going to help. You're frustrated because you can't figure this tech problem out; you don't need a treat. And I saved my (planned for) chocolate for when I was relaxed and I actually enjoyed it- kind of a breakthrough moment for me!
@Katmary71 Nice job getting your exercise in already! Sounds like a lot!3 -
@TeresaW1020 ooh, sciatica is the worst, I'm so sorry. One good thing about it is that it's not as intractable as low back pain, in my experience. Sciatica can resolve with rest or PT. Please be careful when you're painting! Sorry I'm fussing at you- like I said, it's hard for me to hear about someone starting to have back pain. I really hope this calms down for you.
@leonadixon Self care is SO much more important than weight loss! Your priorities are in exactly the right place. Really happy to hear all this.3 -

@buniphuphu I'm in awe of your determination. Exercising consistently is impressive in itself but as I sit here shivering in my big cozy sweater i can't imagine getting into a cold pool. You're my hero.
@TeresaW1020 I left my snowmen out from last year. I usually don't but our last snowfall was in May and with the covid lockdown no one was coming into my house anyway so I decided they were staying out.
I joined Weight Watchers yesterday. It didn't work for me in the past but they had a free month promotion so I thought I'd try it again. I'm still sticking to lowish carb, no dairy or sugar as much as I can but it's interesting to see what the points are on foods I normaly eat. I also like that it syncs with my Fitbit. I earned more than my weeks worth of activity points the first day.

Hi everyone, I've been quietly keeping up with all your posts and seeing some wonderfully inspiring words and actions! Sorry I've been a bit quiet, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed and needed to step back for a bit. I took a few days off from work (my first since going back to work in July 2019 after maternity leave) and had a bit of a "staycation" at home. I'm back now, feeling a little rejuvenated and ready to kick some more goals!
I did spend a couple of days out on my parents' farm which was lovely. It was a little warm (we're in the middle of spring here in Australia, and these were the warmest days we've had so far at 30 degrees Celsius/86 degrees Fahrenheit). I took my son out and he had a blast! We rode motorbikes and helped muster sheep, we saw some beautiful wildflowers which haven't bloomed this much in living memory, he spent some quality time with his grandparents and uncle, played in the red dirt, ate cake mix from the bowl and generally had the time of his life! I thought you might like to see a little pic of him trying to pick some wildflowers - these are called Sturt's Desert Pea and they are a native Australian plant. My parents usually get one or two on their property in spring, but this year they've gone beserk, popping up across a flat and up the side of a hill that they have never grown on before! They're one of my favourite flowers!

@Hilogirl2018 That's fantastic! @TeresaW1020 and I were talking on another board and we think what's important about this goal is that it teaches us not to just stuff everything in despite being full, you can actually stop when you've had enough.
@Jactop Good luck, I hope it works for you this time. I'm on the Green Plan on WW right now. I like it.
@TwistedSassette What lovely memories you have made with your son! And such a cute picture. Thanks for sharing.
