Hello everyone! I'm going on day 11 of meditating and I really feel like it's making a difference in my mood. I feel like I'm calmer and more centered. I hope it's helping me make better food decisions, too. I'm doing a Mindful Eating meditation course on Headspace. Have a great day!

I have this dirty little secret... I like Sausage McMuffins....or at least, I like the concept of Sausage McMuffins. I like sausage, cheese, and English muffins. The reason I bring this up is that I drove through McDonald's this morning on the way home from dropping my daughter at class. Whenever I get one, they end up making me feel vaguely sick because of the oil they put on the English muffin. Blech for bad choices!
On the up side, I love the Habit Tracker! I had to run out of the house today before I had a chance to take my vitamins, and it reminded me I needed to do that today! I'm so glad I decided to use it this month. I highly recommend it.

@TwistedSassette Hopefully, pre-making lunches will save you a little energy in your day, as well as helping you to stay on plan. I suffer with the time change as well, but I'd rather live on DST than standard time once I get used to the switch.

I cleaned out the fridge. May I have permission to slap my child? She's one of "those" that will open/cook something, eat barely half, then put it in the fridge. She loves the canned black beans that have jalepenos in them...I found 3 containers that had about half a can each in them! It's not about the wasted money (as she tends to buy a lot of grocery items herself), but it's the actual food waste that really bothers me and everything wasted that was part of the chain of production. Anyone else feel the same? I keep telling myself to hang in there. She'll be married in 10 months...and then I will have the house (and fridge) to myself. I really believe I'll do a much better job when there isn't another person bringing junk food into the house. It's tough to say no when she tries handing me a bag of chips or package of candy. I love her to death, but I'm ready to be an empty nester. Ok. Rant over.
Today I am focusing on winter squash. Going to try a delicata for the first time. Everything I've found online says to roast it with oil, salt & pepper. But do I just treat it as a side dish? Do I make flavored rice or couscous to serve on top of it? Like when I make stuffed acorn squash? Help me out, peeps!5 -
Ok. So we got hungry and decided to eat the squash (see above). I roasted it with oil spray, salt and pepper. It was delicious! A little weird eating the skin, but not bad at all. We decided it tasted like a cross between a sweet potato and a red waxy potato. I served it on a bed of Israeli Couscous that I cooked in Better than Bullion Vegetable Base. Filled up the other half of my plate with a salad made with romaine, iceberg, arugula, green bell pepper, radish and red cabbage...topped with my easy homemade vinaigrette. I am feeling so healthy today! Hahaha! Hope it lasts!
P.S. I talked to my daughter about the containers in the fridge again and she said she'd try to do better...we'll see5 -

I am new to this group really liking the energy n accountability . For this week I haven’t eaten carbs n I like my weight loss progress . I weigh 220 pounds so need to shed 70 pounds to be in my ideal band . I’m giving myself this consistency till April 2021 then I’ll b smiling all the way to the clothing store . Thanks all6

@trooworld Thanks for sharing the meditation program you're using. I have been thinking about getting into meditation for a while now, as I do struggle to get out of my own head sometimes. Maybe that's a good place to start.

@buniphuphu I think we all have dirty little secrets sometimes! But it's good that you recognise how the Sausage McMuffins make you feel - I think that's the first step in making better choices down the line. Maybe next time the memory of that feeling might be enough to deter you!

It's Thursday morning here in Australia, and my last day of work this week (thankfully!). Last night I jumped on my stationary bike for 20 mins, and then played Beat Saber for 10 mins or so - it's really fun and does get the heart rate up! So that was better than doing nothing. I'm coming down with a cold, I think, so I had to really drag myself off to do it, but once I started it wasn't so bad. I'm looking forward to a good sleep in tomorrow!
My aims for today are to do 20 mins of exercise, and reduce the portion size of a meal (I think they're creeping up again).

This work week has already been crazy - 3 10-hour days already. I am POOPED! I am mentally exhausted! This has been how it's been for the last several weeks. I feel like I have a lot on my plate with work and here. So I'm going to declare it, and move forward.
Here in this group, I love reading all of the posts, but figuring out where to jump in is a bit overwhelming. It's kind of like first starting to watch Grey's Anatomy on Season 6, episode 7 and trying to figure out who the characters are and what their backstory is...you're enjoying the show, so you'll keep watching because you'll eventually figure it out. So if I chime in a little, or if I don't chime in on everyone, please, please, please don't take offense - I'll get there. Chances are, if you see a little like on your post, one of them just may have been from me. I'm going to do better.
So, some random thoughts/events from today... I realized I haven't had fast food in almost 3 months. This is huge! Here is my dirty little secret, pre-covid, I was pretty much eating out 2-3 meals a day. So yeah, not having fast food is a big deal. It's 8:08 p.m. and I have 764 steps in...how pathetic is that. LOL! But I did go out and check the mail today! Mainly because I was waiting for something for work to show up in my mailbox. I need to find a better work/life balance soon. So far only drank 3 bottles of water...but I'm hoping to get one more in before I pass out - I'm struggling with water consumption today. I always wear my fitbit on the same hole - ummm, it's fitting looser these days. This is exciting. This has been the longest week EVER! I woke up today thinking it was Thursday, sad when I realized it was only Wednesday. UGH!

Hello to the new peeps! Welcome! I'm a 36 y/o 911 dispatcher in Central NC, working permanent night shift. I've been at it for 12 years and that's where my weight gain came in. When I started dispatching, I weighted approx 160lbs. My highest weight was 255.
I switched over to WW this spring and I'm currently on the Green Plan. I'm down 32 lbs so far, 14 on WW. I don't log food on MFP anymore but I check in frequently. If anyone wants to follow me on WW, I'm bethanie0825 there as well!6 -

@vegan4lyfe2012 Delicata is really good, isn't it, beautiful presentation! I like it with maple syrup. Lately I've been having kabocha, sweet potato, and butternut squash with a medium-hot chili powder blend I have, a bit of cinnamon, and maple or honey if I'm letting myself eat it. I hate food waste too!
@miriammuhindi You can do it! I started at 222, just a couple pounds more than you. I'm a little over maintenance these days but can tell you how awesome it feels to buy new clothes and to get in the 100s.

@Firefly743 I was sure I was only going to get like 200 steps on my Fitbit when I first got it. My exercise was biking and the stair treadmill and those don't log until you put it on your ankle. I'm sorry work has been so crazy. Way to go on fast food, it's weird not eating it then all the sudden you'll learn to make healthier versions that are way better than what you used to get! I never thought I wouldn't want McDonald's fries with a milkshake to dip them in!

@Firefly743 - I know what you mean by not knowing when to interject in conversation, but it’s way more casual here that it may seem. Just say whatever is happening and you are comfortable to talk about, good or bad, as frequent as you like and as thorough as you like. If there’s a post that “speaks” to you, respond or comment to it, or to multiple, or none. Great analogy with watching a show mid season 😁!!!
Sorry your work has been so busy for a while but not turning to fast food in highly stressful times , is a huge step. Congrats!

Boy, did I derail yesterday... and I only started with a bite, a tiny taste after I declared to be done for the day. Took me an hour to put the spoon down. I’m not proud, but I’m not ashamed either. It happened and now I am simply dusting myself and go back at it, since it’s a brand new day.

@buniphuphu I like them, too! lol Can you make them at home with healthier ingredients? What happens to me is I usually end up getting them in a pinch at my job from the cafe. Awww, thanks re: my good choices. I do hope it helps at the scale on Saturday! I'm inspired by YOU and your continued dedication to swimming despite the colder weather.

@TwistedSassette Yeah, I really like it. I have the premium version of it, which offers a lot of bang for the buck, so to speak, but if you just want to try it out, they have a free version, too. I think all people that meditate struggle to get out of their own heads (I do for sure). I hope you like it! Good luck! I hope you aren't coming down with a cold, or if you are, you get over it quickly.

Wow, I'm actually relieved that this number isn't higher after 10 days of vacation with no access to a scale. I have put some goals on the October Habit Tracker after not bothering for a few months. I'm hoping this will help to keep me on the straight and narrow!!6 -
Today I'm trying something new with my October walks. I don't have time for a dedicated lunchtime walk because I have a doctor's appointment, so I'm walking three times around my pool each time I get up from my desk. Since the pandemic, I work from home, so each time I refill my water or whatever, I do three laps. I'm already up about 500 steps. I'm not turning on the exercise function of my watch like I did for my lunchtime walk, but it is still counting the steps. I'm going to use my pool for ALL my exercise! LOL
@vegan4lyfe2012 I have never heard of that kind of squash. It looks delicious! I will have to tell hubby to look for it. I wonder how it would do on the grill?

Hurray to Halloween decorations! And I'll watch to see what you have to say about the Amazon Band. I just looked it up as I am out of it and had not heard about it. Some aspects look great. Mood tracking was a surprise. I'll be interested to hear if that is useful!
On a somewhat related note -- I have gotten my little group of algebra students excited about math problems that involve Halloween. So I stayed up WAY too late writing up special bonus problems that will hopefully make them laugh!

And wow, I so feel you about how one bit can lead to... an hour of snacking. Dusting yourself off and getting back to work is so great!
(My sister and were laughing a while back about *not* making gooey butter cake because it has that "hour of snacking" effect on both of us, and on everyone in the house. It's so easy to come by and just even up the messy line where the last piece got cut. And once you start on that cake, it's scarily easy to keep going until you have eaten way to much of it.)

@buniphuphu I do a similar thing where I work. My Fitbit reminds me at 50 minutes past the hour that I haven't moved from my desk, and it is exactly 250 steps out and around our office building, so that's what I do!! It works perfectly (except for when it's raining )3
