    Another week with more eating out than usual. Despite my efforts to pick low-cal, healthy choices and utilize take home boxes, I managed to gain the previous week's loss back. I think December is going to be very difficult to lose anything so my focus is going to be to try and get to the end of the year at my current weight instead. I'm still exercising and eating well at home so not going to beat myself up about it!

    Regarding IF, I am not as hard core as some say you need to be - I put a splash of almond creamer in my coffee every morning. I know some people say zero calories till you break your fast but I also heard that if it’s less than 20 or so calorie it’s still ok. It’s the only way I feel I can make it through my fast because I work out fasted and I need my coffee before I do that!

    Also, I used to think I could never skip breakfast, I’d get way too hungry - but I started by pushing back a small breakfast till 10 am (I get up around 6 or 6:30) and after months of doing that and realizing I wasn’t
    dying from starvation (😝) I pushed my fast back till noon and ended up with that many more calories for later in the day when I really want them.

    So far, it’s been working pretty well with minimal inconvenience/ sacrifice 😀

    Had to hop on really quick before heading to the hospital...OMGoodness! @trooworld your village was beautiful! Love the train going around the mountain, too! My dad had one of those train sets where it was on a very large table and he had a mountain and river for it to cross over along with cute little businesses...like a post office and bank and store. You just rekindled some wonderful memories I hadn't thought of in a long time. Thank you! And your luminaries are so pretty! The snowflake DSP looks like SU's Snowflake Splendor, which is what I used on about 60 Christmas cards this year :smile:

    @raleighgirl09 "Hunger is not an emergency" - I love it! Going to try to remember this one. Of course, sometimes my hunger is urgent when it's accompanied by low blood sugar (I am insulin resistant), but that's not usually at the first sign of hunger so this will definitely be relevant advice!
    Also sorry to hear about your tooth, that does sound painful. Spare a thought for my husband, he has a full mouth of dental implants (11 titanium posts in his jaw). Your procedure will be much more bearable!!

    @trooworld - WOW! Your village looks so cool! I haven't ever seen luminaries before, they look really awesome! I have a Silhouette machine (my sister has a Cricut) so I'll have to look into how to make these!

    @TeresaW1020 I am not sure what's on the menu yet. I am still considering lots of options! We want to do a less traditional meal and more like finger foods as we tend to be snacking throughout the day and then nobody wants to sit down for a proper meal. Thinking about making some kind of turkey & cranberry vol au vents but I haven't found a recipe that I like yet!
    I do enjoy hosting, our house is definitely the most comfortable in the family in terms of space and airconditioning! My family are really good with splitting the workload too, so I won't be left making all the food myself.

    @Jactop Great loss this week!

    @anido1 Try not to be too upset with yourself. Seems like you know what you need to do to get back on track, now it's just a matter of doing it. We all have those time where we slip backwards, it's what we do afterwards that matters. You got this!

    Quick update from me - decent day yesterday despite having both a caramel tart AND a custard tart that a coworker brought in to work. I still had a good deficit and did some walking. Ordered some Christmas gifts which should arrive in time (I hope!).
    Hubby got the call from his Mum yesterday afternoon that they needed him to be there this morning to help with finishing off their harvest - nothing like last minute! It's a 200-mile trip so he left early this morning and my Mum dropped everything at her own farm to come last night to look after our son while hubby is away and I'm at work. He will be back Thursday evening in time for our son's 2nd birthday on Friday (NON NEGOTIABLE!!) so it will all work out.

    Hello.

    I seem to be stuck in "what the hell" mode this week. I usually allow myself a few treats after weigh in, but this week it has spiraled into no tracking and more than than I know is good for me x 4 days. I forced myself to track tonight and it wasn't as bad as I expected. I've kept up with my exercise. I'm mad at myself, but will put it aside and move forward. I have to figure out why I am doing this. I'm not going to take the attitude that it's the holidays so I can stop paying attention for the rest of the month.

    @vegan4lyfe2012 - hope the surgery went well.

    @trooworld - wow- love the village. Especially love the luminaries- nice work!

    Hello everyone,

    This week I am trying not to step on the scale and see my weight. Although my weigh day is Saturday, I can’t but do it every day. I tried all tricks; to remove the scale from the bathroom I end up going where it is. Hide it in a hard place to get to, I still get the steps and go up. I even asked my husband to hide it, poor guy I throw a fit to get it back. 🙈

    @TwistedSassette Thank you...I reminded myself this morning slow and steady. Happy birthday to your son.

    @adhmrh Thanks. I hope I do better this week. Decorating trees is so much fun with family.

    @TeresaW1020 I throw candy away. When at home it is just so tempting to eat one and say “it’s only one”, but it’s also “all sugar”. I used to hide the candy and sweets from my girls and end up munching on them secretly. But now when I come near one I tell myself why am I doing this? Who am I cheating? I know very well it is not good for anyone to put this in their body and I am not even letting my girls have it, so I will not.

    @raleighgirl09 The “oh yeah” and “oh well” moments are so true. I go through the same thing. And you are right simple things do make a difference if one changes the way of thinking and reacting.

    Good morning. Things have been so crazy here. My knee is finally improving and I'm going to attempt to walk on the treadmill this afternoon. It's an excuse to see my son no matter how long my workout lasts. It'll probably be a very slow walk because I don't want to irritate it again. I have court tomorrow (for my ex) so I need to get some endorphins going...hopefully it'll help.

    Today's goals are at least 5,000 steps...preferably 7,500; and a gallon of water. Tomorrow is my weigh-in day and without the ability to workout I'm not expecting anything positive at all. Plan for the worst and hope for the best!!!

    I hope everyone has a great day!!!

    @AustinRuadhain @itsmegina @davidji82 Great weigh-ins last week! You guys are really doing a great job!

    @TwistedSassette I have PCOS too. It does make things more of a struggle, but I know we can get there!

    @trooworld I have been lazy about tracking as well. I'm not sure if there is something in the air, but I keep waiting until the end of the day to track things. I know this hasn't helped with my hormonal weight gain this week. I am determined to turn it around this week though.

    @raleighgirl09 - Love the Oh yeah, Oh well post- hit the nail on the head with that one. Also- "mixing in some momentary and fleeting efforts and then wondering why I don't get results" Yes, yes, and yes- that's what I'm up to lately. So many things are needed to add up to results.

    @trooworld- I'm checking back in later to see if you tracked today. Please answer YES!

    @Cornanda Sorry you're in a bit of a rut. It's always a hard time of year, but this year especially so. What's done is done, so try to move forward and stick to what you know works.

    @raleighgirl09 Great excuse-busting right there! You got this.

    @RYcare Thank you for the birthday wishes for my son! I took him to get his hair cut yesterday which is usually a dramatic event but the lady we went to was so wonderful with him! Hardly any tears and he gave her a big hug at the end. Here's a little pic in the car afterwards:
    1sy2lqplylq2.jpg
    Regarding the scale, I find that weighing in every day helps me AS LONG as I view the results as data. I have managed to remove all emotional attachment to the number on the scale, and it's now just one of a set of data that I collect in order to see if what I'm doing is working. Maybe something to consider - a change of mindset.

    @GretchenReine I'm glad your knee is improving. Take it easy so you don't re-injure it! Good luck for court tomorrow, I'll be thinking of you.

    @trooworld Ugh sorry about the migraine. I get them sometimes, they're just awful. Do you get the aura (visual disturbance) as well? I usually know when a migraine is coming, because I get a blind spot which gradually turns into a flashing/pulsing spot and eventually uncurls into a flashing/pulsing line that moves off out of my field of vision. A little while later the headache starts, and then the nausea etc. So I tend to start painkillers when I get the aura so they have a chance to kick in before the headache arrives - it works well except for those times where it starts in the middle of the night! To this day, I've not been able to work out what my triggers are! I hope you're feeling better today.

    @buniphuphu You are living proof that while PCOS is a struggle, we can make it work! You're doing an amazing job.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Yesterday was ok. I had a few beers with my Mum and didn't do as much exercise as I'd intended, so the tracker didn't like me much but I still had a (very) small deficit. Moving on today, I just feel really tired as I didn't get to bed until about midnight and had to get up for work at 5:30. Definitely a two coffee day today!
    @anido1 Ohhh I am sorry that your weigh-in didn’t go well but I really encourage you to not beat yourself up but instead refocus on what you know to do and start doing it. You will get that gain off in no time! :)
    @TwistedSassette I had to go Google, turkey & cranberry vol au vents and they look amazing! I love the idea of having a finger food family get together! What a little cutie your son is!! Love his blue eyes. <3
    @Cornanda I feel you and your “what the hell” attitude that you have been having. I think I’ve had a bit of that since Thanksgiving and then the party that I just had didn’t help me at all. I got rid of all the foods that aren’t part of my plan yesterday and had had a good talking to myself. I think that we have to decide if the food is worth the consequences of us feeling badly towards ourselves. It’s not of course, but yet we keep letting it dictate our behavior. :/
    @raleighgirl09 Small choices made throughout the day really do determine the outcome. Yes, this is truth!! B) Whenever I stop and think about what is going wrong it always comes down to the small choices that I have made that day. For instance, I decided to have a party and eat all the things. That was a “planned indulgence” and I was good with it. But then two days later I’m still eating all the things. Ugghhh! :s
    @RYcare I’ve done all those things with the scale that you have, and it never works for me either. I finally embraced the scale as just another tool for data. I step on it at the same time each day and record it in the Happy Scale app and then move on with my day. But in order to do this, you have to be OK with the fluctuations that you will see. Sometimes I just track my weekly average, have you thought about doing that? Yes, to throwing candy away! You know that I bought candy for my staff Christmas party knowing full well that it’s because I wanted to eat it. That kind of self-sabotaging makes me crazy! :#
    @GretchenReine I’m so glad that your knee is feeling well enough that you are wanting to give the treadmill a try. Take it easy and slow! <3
    @trooworld I hope your migraine goes away and that you will start to feel better. What do you think is causing them lately? :/
    Hi Team! Not much going on today. My right hip has been hurting me since yesterday and I’m not sure why. So, instead of doing my normal workout, I opted to go shopping instead. :grin: Mom and I did the usual grocery shopping this morning and then hubby and I went out and finished up Christmas shopping for my mom. This afternoon I have been working on a new jigsaw puzzle and binge listening to my favorite podcasts Low-Carb MD. Episode #50 with Dr. Jason Fung talking about calories was awesome and I really encourage everyone to give it a listen. ;)
    NEW YEAR CHALLENGE:24 Days until January 1st
    1.Fast Clean:I fasted 23 hours today.
    2.Workout: I did a 40-minute cardio program
    Tuesday check in
    Have had a good day for food and habits, all green checks on the habit tracker!!! YAY me! => I was able to get out and walk twice but still only barely squeaked by on the 10,000 steps - I think it'll be about 10,500. Just need to build the routine with working 8 hour days.....ugh, how do people do this?!? :D:D:D
    Check in: yes
    Water: yes
    Food logged (pre-logged?): yes (yes)
    Basic calorie goal: yes
    10,000 steps: yes
    @Cornanda it's hard, for sure, and that fiiiirrrrrssssttttt day of doing all the things is the hardest but gets easier. How did the tracking go today? I hope it went well and that you were able to track at least one meal - and hope that you can find a nugget of success in today that will help you seed a great tomorrow!!! B)
    @SammyDee2015 awesome sauce on the no midnight snack attack!!! That is one habit that is so hard for me to break and....it sneaks back in when I'm not looking!
    @vegan4lyfe2012 gotchya on my mind, I hope you are doing well and recovering with some great sleep and a little chemical assistance for pain! <3
    @GretchenReine I am so glad the knee is getting better! It does make it more difficult to get up and go – makes it harder to feel like it. Rooting for you to have the desired outcome in court!
    @trooworld LOVE your village and especially the luminaries! Such simple items for joy making, I love the magical look of several twinkling away on the steps or lining the street – especially when whole neighborhoods do it. I hope today was better and that you, too, were able to track at least some and have that help be a foundation for tomorrow’s efforts. A little at a time is ok…. =>
    @anido1 oh man, have I ever been there. Could be a big, ol’ ball of several things but being aware is a great step forward! I hope you have been able to find a way to make the anger into a positive for backing up your awareness with actions….thinking of you! <3
    @RYcare I concur with the many wise words gone before me – it is easier to bear an up day when you can see there was a down trend and then an odd up, without that perspective, it simply looks like a gain with no context around it. If you can manage the perspective of it’s just data, it’s very helpful. I tend to be like @Cornanda and only really think about the number as I am getting to the day of reporting the weight. My question is….what is driving you to go to such emotional lengths to avoid stepping on it? From the little you shared, my outsider perspective is that that is not helping you either so there must be a strong back story.
    @TwistedSassette I swear your profile pic changed while I was reading posts!! Very cute! Your sone is adorable and reminds me of having young sons – such a joy. Watching those sweet faces and bodies become big and hairy and the rough and tumble becoming muscle and hormones! It was a lot of fun to be mom to boys! Hope you get more sleep tonight….. =>
    @TeresaW1020 I also had to Google the vol au vents from @TwistedSassette. I had no idea those had such a fancy name and they are quite delightful! I lived with the planned indulgence that went on for a couple of months…… =< I have many, MANY times had a get together at my house and try to get rid of the leftovers and never seem to manage them all gone with the guests so why don’t I throw it away……? Am I secretly happy to see some around for the pinch here and there…? Um, yeah. Occasionally I really do wish it was all gone but when it’s not, I know what I should do. I just don’t usually do that. By the way, I bookmarked the episode, here’s the link for anyone else interested! https://lowcarbmd.com/episode-50-dr-jason-fung-discusses-several-new-studies
    @AustinRuadhain I’m loving watching you nudge it down! Great work and perspective, I know it has come from a lot of work, most of which was not food based. Excellent!!
    @buniphuphu I have always loved your straightforward and calm approach! Hormones will get us every time!
