P.s. my profile pick was when I lost 200+ pounds oh about13-15 years ago... So I'm shooting to get back there as a start. (well with many smaller steps in-between.)
Thanks Poobah. It makes me feel better that others are using older pictures too! Mine is from about 5 years ago. I am still in awe of how quickly I gained nearly 100 pounds! Now if only it would fall off that quick!2 -

Hi everyone I'm Roz. Ready to drop about 90lbs. Started my first week with a 3.4lbs loss. 👍😊7

Hi all, my name is Sandy and I'm a 58 year old woman ready to get my health and life back by dropping 90 pounds (I'm 5'4" 210 pounds). I was recently diagnosed with heart disease and had 3 stents placed. In addition to helping my overall health, losing 90 pounds will allow me to hopefully get off most if not all medications. I look forward to getting to know all of you.4

Hello. I think I introduced myself WAY back in the day and then disappeared for a long while. So here I am again...
My name is Becca and I am 39 years old.
I am looking to drop around 100lbs (currently at 260).
I have been at this for the past month now and am down 6lbs. I keep my deficit small because in the past I have attempted to push things more and ended up with bad food anxiety.
I have multiple health issues that restrict what I can eat along with what I can do physically. This includes interstitial cystitis, digestive problems (undiagnosed), anxiety, hip and back pain, and tendonitis in both ankles. It's fun. I do the best I can. I am very open about my struggles medically so that I can help support those who may also deal with them. So if you want to talk, let me know.
I actually at one point (many years ago) got myself down to 190, but then my mother passed away and I started dealing with the pain that comes from interstitial cystitis. This caused my depression and anxiety to get out of control and my health came last.
Pretty much I want my health back, at least the health that I can control. I hope with weight loss I gain energy and my hip/back pain and tendonitis get better. In December 2022, for my 40th, I am also going back to Disney with my best friend and I want to be able to keep up with her (she is in her 20's) and not be in pain all the time.

Hi Becca! Well done on your 6lbs loss! I’d agree, for what it’s worth, small deficits is they way to go. That’s what I’m trying this time too.. hopefully for the last! Good luck!4

Good morning again Becca!
Feel free to send me friend request, I'll be happy to add a smile to every day!
That offer is out there for anyone on this group! *Good feelings everyone*4 -
I'm not sure how to send friend requests on here, or else I'd send you one, @Poobah1972 !
Welcome, Becca!2 -
Hey everyone! I'm new here to this group and this is my first day finding the forums on MFP. I've been using the app for three weeks now. I'm a 45 years old and a husband and father of two girls. They are my biggest inspiration for me wanting to get healthy and change my lifestyle. Three weeks ago, I stepped on the scale and the number staring back at me was 418. I was shocked and in disbelief. I knew I needed to make a change, but seeing this number made me start that day on making a change. I downloaded MFP and put in my information and began tracking my food intake. I weighed a week ago and was down to 407.8 lbs. I'm planning on weighing only once/month. I decided that I didn't want to be playing the scale game and being disappointed when the number wasn't down for a particular week. It's freeing not having to step on the scale every week. I can already feel a change in the way my clothes fit.
I also read a book by Bryan Ganey and was so inspired by his weight loss. I made a decision that I want a healthier lifestyle and just don't want to lose weight. My ultimate goal is to reach 200 lbs and keep it off. I don't want to be in the 95% of people that lose weight (like I have done so many times in the past) and not keep it off. I want to be in the 5% that keep it off and truly make a lifestyle change. I want to be able to play with my girls and not be out of breath by playing chase in the yard. I want to be able to take a flight without having to use a seat belt extender. I want to be able to fit on amusement park rides when we take our girls to Disney in a few years. I want to gain more time with my wife and grow old together and enjoy life. I just don't want to be alive and be miserable. I'm tired of living on the sidelines because I can't do things and I want to live life to the fullest. Join me on focusing on what you will be gaining through a healthier lifestyle and let's life life to the fullest. We only get one chance at life and it's so short and so let's live it to the fullest and encourage others along the way. Thanks for all of the encouragement and I'm excited to be on this journey with all of you!9 -
Welcome, @joeblackwell75!
What great progress you has already made. That initial drop feels so good and can give us such a great surge of determination. I think you will love this group. Great people - lots of support - and the day to day experience of being a big loser can get tedious. It is hard to share the experience with someone who needs to lose 20 pounds and is over and done with it in a few months. People here know how to work it long term. And have such a wealth of experience to share. I'm relatively new to the group but, wow, I am so thankful for all I have learned here.
It is really worth digging through the archives. So much to learn, so great a sense of "ah - this is the place I need to be right now."
I'm lucky. I'm getting close to goal, only had about 125 pounds to lose in total - about 25 more to go. So I'm experiencing some of those things you list and it feels amazing. I know "maintenance" is going to be crazy - and I'm learning about that process as I get down to that point. My best learning about that challenge is happening in this group too.
In several places on MFP I've read words along these lines...they are so very true and have gotten me through a few trickier times:
Losing weight is hard. Being obese is hard. Choose your hard.4 -
@lauriekallis Thank you for sharing and your encouragement! I have a long road ahead, but it will be worth it. I plan on digging through the archives to learn as much as I can. How exciting it is for you to be so close to reaching your goal! You've put in a lot of hard work. Over and over I've read that weight loss happens in the kitchen so I'm working on making my biggest changes here. Here's to continued success on your journey and moving to a maintenance phase. Keep up the great work!1

Oh my, Connie - you've jut about made me tear up!2 -
@Joeblackwell75 LOVE IT! You got seem to be looking at things the right way. Finding the happy place in your chosen Way of eating, and learning the tools such as planning nutrition, food choices, coping with adversity, and eventually maintenance are all key factor's in making sure your on the right side of the 95%. For me a great part of that learning process involves this community, and sharing with and learning from all these great individuals!
I was definitely part of the 95% in the past... I feel extremely confident that I'm actually putting that behind me now. I think I already added you as a friend? So if your every curious please feel free to pick over my food diary, and if you have any questions at all I'm there for you!
Welcome to the Fam! 🙂5 -
Hello everyone!!! I am Kristi! Although weight has been a struggle my whole life it is effecting my ability to enjoy things now. I have a large amount of weight to lose I try not to focus on the number because it tends to overwhelm me. I am trying to get back refocused after I torn my meniscus running 2 yrs ago. I just started my life change about 2 weeks ago and I get frustrated with how tired I am when I exercise. I know in time it will get easier just frustrates me that I let myself get here. I am ready to be able enjoy walking and other forms of exercise so I keep pushing!!!5

@Athijade Welcome and thanks for sharing. You're in good company here as we're all on a similar journey. We are all struggling with health problems in some ways. Like you, I have issues with my knees from time to time and the pain comes and goes. I know the weight I'm at is not healthy and I need a change. I joined this group a couple of weeks ago to get connected with other people looking to make changes in their lives.
I've heard this said many times, but I didn't really grasp this concept until recenlty. "Weight loss happens in the kitchen, not the gym". This is so important to understand that small changes in our daily food intake can make big changes in the long term. Keep up the great work and you'll get to where you want to be. This group will keep you motivated and remember "your why". Why are you doing this? Keep that motivation front and center and don't lose sight of that goal or dream. You can do this!4 -
@Poobah1972 Thanks for the motivation and encouragement. I believe we are friends now. It took me forever to learn how to send a friend request. I'm just trying to focus on one day at a time and keep moving in the right direction. I'm focusing on eating my calories with MFP and staying on track that way. I log my food intake everyday and I enjoy having the control to have something if I want it. One of the things I like the most is peanut butter. I use a food scale so that also helps me to keep my PB habit in check by weighing it out. Right now, I'm enjoying the freedom of not weighing myself until the first Saturday of the month and trusting that my food tracking is working. I can feel a difference in the way that certain clothes are fitting, so that keeps me going.
I think the hardest part is understanding this is a long process and not a sprint to the finish line. It has taken me a long time to gain this weight and it will take me a long time to get rid of it. Staying patient and focused may be a problem for me, but I'm determined to focus on my "why" and know this is going to result in a healthier me for myself and my family. Have a great week and keep up the great work!3 -
Hi! I’m 37, female, live in north Alabama. I have been struggling with my weight almost all my life. I’ve seriously tried to do something to lose weight 5 times in my life and they all worked. But then I gained it all back and a lot more on top of the original loss. My last attempt was a year ago when I joined WW for the first time. I lost 14lbs in those 3 months, and then the pandemic hit so out the window my “new and healthier” lifestyle went.
I work 5-6 days a week for 9-12 hours a day. I weighed myself for the first time in over a year exactly 1 week ago. I am almost at my highest weight ever, CW: 258lbs. I am just 5’5” so I am morbidly obese at this point. I have been keeping track of my food for the past week and have managed to stay in a healthy caloric intake daily. I have been swapping the sugar loaded foods I love so much for healthier choices.
What I am looking for is basically a support system. I live alone here, I have had no friends since moving here 2 years ago. My family and friends live thousands of miles away and with this pandemic I have been so isolated that I’ve been eating my feelings for the past year.
I want to be able to feel comfortable in my own skin and be healthy for once! I have high blood pressure that is being managed medically and I am celiac. My GW is 145lbs. I want to stay on this path and reach my goal.
Any words of wisdom and encouragement are always welcomed.5 -
Have a read at the many posts Novus wrote. Especially given your past "repeat" history. He may not, currently, be around but this far from invalidates the points he made!1

@PAV8888 thank you for that tip. His posts are indeed very insightful and inspirational. Thank you!
Welcome to Larger Losers....Novus is missed very much but a few of us dedicated members are trying to keep the group together...please feel free to comment and join in any post...we never criticize or shame anyone!...we are all here to become healthier and slimmer...some of us have lost a lot or we are starting on our journey....losing over 75 lbs has different issues and problems than smaller less to lose pounds individuals have...so you are very welcome to be a part of our group!4 -
Hi all. I've just rejoined MFP after a 6 year hiatus. I put all the weight back on that I lost, plus 10. But, I'm back. I have a little over 100 pounds to lose. Last time I was on here, I lost 25. I got completely derailed when my husband got ill and couldn't focus on getting back into it. I've been so bored during the pandemic, but I haven't found the motivation to kick my butt into gear until yesterday. I'm not sure what triggered it, I just decided it's time. I still have about 5 months before I start working in person again, and it would be nice to have a better look and have built up my stamina (my job consists of all standing and lots of walking). I did my first workout today. I couldn't finish it, but it's a start. Add me as your friend, I'd love to get some new ones! And thanks for having this group5

Glad you’ve come back! I think we are all on a similar journey here. It’s great that we can encourage each other on this journey. We just have to take it one day at a time. I have to remind myself this is a long process and to take it slowly. Welcome back and keep going on the workouts. Even though you didn’t finish, you started. Way to go!3 -

Thanks! I'm really glad I came back, too. I wish I did it at the start of the pandemic, but my mind just wasn't ready. This is a time I feel here and ready to make the commitment! it's been a long time since I've felt that way. I'm happy and I'm looking forward to seeing the changes

Hi and welcome. I haven't written a welcome message in a few months so I might be a bit rusty but I always try and look for the one thing that the person has said that might indicate an area that needs refining a bit.
When people mention they feel like making a commitment it makes me pause. When we say it to ourselves we may be excited but consider that there may be an inherent fail point... feelings. We will feel lots of different ways depending on life circumstance because life doesn't stop when we choose to lose weight.
We have to live in our bodies and so our health should never be optional. I say that while fully admitting that I treated it as optional for a very long time. By the same token saying that I will be committed to weight management for the rest of my life somehow makes it a little overwhelming even though that is exactly what I hope to do.
I have a 5 year contract with myself that will auto-renew with or without changes. The contract requires that I spend most of my time in a process of eating the right amount of food. Some of that time the "right amount" is for weight loss, the rest will be for weight maintenance. If I hit a bump in the road, as I have recently, I am required to navigate the bump with as little setback as possible but I never leave the contract.
Making it a contract of time instead of a contract of goal also reminds me this is not just about weight loss it is about long term sustainability. The process is more important than the goal because the process drives the goal. It has to be easy enough for the hard days that will come in the next 5 years. It has to adapt to the things I learn about myself. It has to be refined when gaps are identified.
Whether or not that idea may work for you I encourage you at least give it some thought. Think about some of your other commitments in life and decide how to rank your health commitment as high as some of them. For a long time I treated my health commitment like a 5th grader with a girlfriend. Anytime things stopped going smooth or if I didn't feel like it anymore, it was nothing to break up. It is a little different when you get into a serious relationship. A lot of my issues dealt with blind spots of immaturity which is kind of sad considering how old I am.4 -
I have started my weight loss journey on March 8, 2021 weighing 371 pounds at 6'3". Only 9 years ago, I enjoyed running and was in the 265 pound range. I let life (stressful job/kid, etc) get in the way of running and went back to making really bad eating decisions. I am currently at 338 pounds and am looking to get to under 250 pounds. So far I have mainly only changed eating habits. Just starting to get back into exercising.5
