I went off the rails this weekend - no logging, a big wine night and loads of sweets - but I am prepared to get back on track tomorrow...will log before sleep tonight. I discovered Merguez Lamb sausages this weekend...I don't think I need to ever eat any other type of lamb -yum!
A while back I bought a bag of Mung beans with the intention of doing my own bean sprouts - read the process and said forget it - so instead I used the philipino stew recipe on the back of the bag and it is a really nice and interesting soup - with fresh grated ginger and coconut milk and fresh spinach making the interesting and pleasant taste.
@DD265 you'll love that freezer for putting portion containers of soup in - @jugar I almost always triple a recipe, ha!
@Terytha I'm sorry to hear you've been having rough time...hang in there...hang in here...we'll cheer you on and boost you up.
@PlaneMonkey welcome back - how's the desk job going? I know you were wondering how it would be after being so active at work before.

I'm super excited that @bonnie_red has joined us! She's my sister and has had a lot of big exciting life changes recently but has been struggling getting her healthy routines back in place. I suggested she join this group for some support!6

This is fantastic! Two pair of sisters on the team - I love having my sister here too @EvMakesChanges It will be a blast!5 -
@Terytha thanks for checking in. I was worried about you because I know you mentioned your mom and feeling down. I am so sorry to hear you are struggling personally and professionally. Big hugs. If you need to, switch to maintenance. That is better then a gain.
@planemonkey Welcome Back!!! I hope you enjoyed the end of summer with the house and renovations.
@evangsimmons170 Congratulations!!!!
@bonnie_red welcome to the team!!!! I hope you benefit from this supportive group.
I think I over did it yesterday. I have been pretty tired today. I didn't get much done. Well, I did 5 loads of laundry dry, went to Target, and did a lot of work...but I wasn't physically very active. Weekends are hard6 -
just a short update to log steps & exercise this week:
Sun: 14,952
Mon: 16,644 +49 min glutes & hamstrings (Epic Day 41)
Tues: 19,519 +49 min shoulders & core (Epic Day 42)
Wed: 12,358
Thurs: 12,478
Fri: 15,265 +51 min quads & abs (Epic Day 43)
Sat: 17,733
Up later than I would like to be right now but the Packers game just ended (we won in semi-dramatic fashion) and I need to conk out immediately. Didn't get many steps today due to the traffic-heavy drive back from the Cape but my weekend was great! [Will not have a super fun weigh-in Tuesday but there ya go].3 -
@Terytha Sounds like things have been heavy, your check-ins have been missed and it's nice to see you back.
@DD265 Hope the training session goes well despite the back situation...
Congrats to our winners this week and way to go @AshenMoon on making multiple leaderboards for the week!
@evangsimmons170 Just under three months until the wedding date, how exciting!! Congrats
@bonnie_red Welcome to the team, so fun to have another family connection... looking forward to getting to know you.3 -
Brad and I had a very nice weekend. Yesterday was filled with quite a bit of fun and right before dinner I stopped tracking - it just got too complicated. He took me to one of my favorite small plates restaurants in Calgary and there were too many components and it was just going to be guessing. Rather than fret I just enjoyed myself and today I got back into a deficit. I was supposed to be on a planned two week diet break starting Thursday but after the week prior not really going as planned weight loss wise followed by the first few days of the break being maintenance or more, I didn't feel like I could mentally handle what would more likely be some additional gain over the next while.
It sort of plays in to some earlier discussion about a goal weight number... I do have places I want to be in my head... for the week, for the month, by my birthday... etc. However I agree that setting too strict of a timeframe around things isn't necessarily helpful. I think I've just been having a few moments in my mind of "what if I'm backsliding here..."
Like @jugar said a few days ago, when I look at my progress over this past month, there is nothing to be worried about, but I've caught myself in a few moments the past few days of feeling negative, and that's not where I want to be.
Just reminds me that what we're all doing here is hard! If it was easy we wouldn't be here for support.4 -
@Terytha So glad you have checked in. You certainly have been on my mind. So sorry life has been so difficult. You are stronger than you think you are and we are here to support you. Don’t give the weight gain one more guilty thought. We’ve all been there. ❤️
@planemonkey Yay!!! Courtney is back on the active team. Welcome Back!!! ❤️
@evangsimmons170 Congratulations!!!! How exciting!!! Wishing you all the best as you plan for your special day. ❤️
@bonnie_red Welcome to the team!!!! We have a wonderful group here. So nice to have you join us. I hope you benefit from this supportive group.
Got my booster shot and flu shot today and I am up waaaay too late. So off to bed. Pilates in the am.
Oh and on my walk today, I saw this!!! Why? Are there tiny pirates 🏴☠️ somewhere waiting to come aboard?

Not complaining! But back on it today, which means tracking everything including water intake. There's a small chance I might go over my calories for a couple of days (I seem to be super hungry all the time) however tracking what I'm eating is more important than what I'm eating this week - I need to get back into that habit.
@Terytha I'm sorry things have been rough, that sounds like a lot all at once.
@evangsimmons170 How exciting, I hope you have a wonderful day!
@bonnie_red Welcome to the team, it's a great bunch of people
@micki48 I don't know what that boat is for, but I want one. So cute.
Training this morning went well. It started off great that I got myself out of bed... not that I've been staying in bed late or anything, but just that I didn't forget the session - I was up at 5.30am. We focused on an assessment of flexibility then did some cleans, presses and deadlifts. My form wasn't great, which I think is partly as I've not done any for a while, part protecting my back, and part there not being any weight on the bar. Next week we'll do more and whip me back into shape. This week I've to do two runs; the first is as far as I can at the pace I want to run November's 10k race at, and the second is a 10k at whatever pace (run/walk etc) it takes to manage the distance. Sounds like he's putting a 6 week plan together to prepare me for that race, though I'm not aiming for a competitive time and just want to run the whole thing. After that though, I want to run quicker. It's not because I want to do X distance in Y time, but because the faster I run (within reason, sprints not so much lol) the more freedom I feel and ultimately that freedom/exploration is why I run.
The freezer is ordered - I actually got £200 worth of gift cards, so the freezer cost the princely sum of £4.99. OH said I ought to treat myself and not use it all on the freezer, so I suggested he treat me rather than contributing to the freezer lol.8 -
Morning! Scale is down today, I've had my first 500 ml of water, and I'm about to redo Pilates Day 1 while the videos are still up for free. Brad and I have more hiking in the mountains planned for today.
Yesterday was a perfect reset day and my mind is much clearer. So much of this journey is learning about yourself, what you can tolerate, what gets to you mentally as a road block and what to do to address it. I feel so much more in tune with these things now but it's a constant work in progress.
Enjoy the start of the week everyone!6 -
Happy Monday!
I am really excited this morning. I found a place to get tested that will actually give me the results quickly enough to make it through the border! I was tested Friday but did not get the results in time to make it there within 72 hours of the test, but there is a brilliant place in Manchester New Hampshire that will do it and give me the results in time to get home tonight. Ahhhh. It has been a great time here at my dad's but I want to go home. It will cost me to have this test, but at least it is the right kind and it's fast. Yay!
I will have significant repair work to do on my diet when I get back, and might have to come back to the regular team for October. Stress eating has happened At least I have had good walks.
OK - I'm packing up. Back online tonight I hope!4 -
@jugar that's so awesome! Safe travels
@ashleycarole86 I'm glad the scale is down! Do you weigh yourself daily?
@DD265 wow, those sound like some intense workouts/runs! That's super exciting you're running at 10k in November.
I had a not amazingly healthy weekend (we ordered Chinese food - my husband's favourite - and I picked up mini cupcakes), but I'm back on track today. Although still craving cupcakes 😅. I'm looking forward to the gym tonight - I bought myself new running shoes yesterday, which made me disproportionately happy!
I hope everyone has a good Monday!6 -
@kellie_erin Yes I do weigh daily, I record my weight in MFP every day and use an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of my average weight. However my weigh-in every Thursday is just whatever my weight was that day.4
-
@ashleycarole86 okay! That's awesome - I love excel for tracking things like that. But I found weighing myself daily really affected my mood if I was up 😖4
-
Hi everyone - thank you so much for the kind welcomes! I really appreciate it!
Like my sister @kellie_erin said, I have recently had a lot of big changes in my life (moved to a new city, started a new job, etc) and I'm struggling to lose some of the weight that I put on in 2020/2021.
My new job involves a lot of travel and I'm only home on the weekends. So, during the week I am living out of hotels and at restaurants, and finding it very difficult to maintain any sort of healthy eating and exercise. My supervisor is also really big on us eating together as a team, so at the end of the day it feels like it's been a 14 hour day and not a 10 hour day.
If anyone has any tips for dealing with this, I'd love to hear some! Looking forward to getting to know you all!4 -
@bonnie_red
I can relate to your crazy travel life - for six years I was responsible for all the international relations for the university where I worked. I travelled a lot, hosted visitors a lot, and ate out way too much. It was tough! It was in the last year of that job that I finally got myself under control and started losing weight. I tried often, but failed a lot until I finally found a system that worked for me. I had to strictly limit certain kinds of foods, make vegetables a very large % of my intake, and just say no without making it a big deal as much as possible. I'm only 5'1" (on a good day!). Waking up to the fact that I cannot eat as much as almost everyone else and gradually getting comfortable with a lower calorie load took a while. It helps to make it high volume, low calorie density, so that I can eat a lot of food without it being a lot of calories. Lots of fruit and veg, not much oil, etc. I think the closest well-known version is Mediterranean. It is not hard to find the right stuff in a restaurant, but it IS hard to resist all the wrong stuff!
Hang in there - check in here often, and hopefully you'll find your basic formula that is not too hard to stick with on most days, and you won't go too crazy on the days when that is difficult. Keep posting and let us know what you try, and what does not work as well as what does. Discovering what does not work is important too!4 -
I made it home! It feels great to be here. I'm not too happy with how I have been eating, but will get back on track asap. Travelling on nearly empty highway for the last 80 miles of the trip and making dinner in my own kitchen were both very calming.
We are trying a new idea for October here in F2F. If you'd like to try another team for a month just for fun, something different to keep you on track (new people to impress!), or just a different team style and character, go for it! After the month, you can come back here, try yet another one, change to the one you found - whatever feels great to you. I know that each team has a slightly different character, and new people get assigned kind of randomly, unless they request a team. But there is no reason not to try out another one just to be sure you have found the right fit, or to shake things up a bit for a while. Let me know if you'd like to do this! You can get an idea of the other teams by visiting their team chats any time. Of course, there is no need to move around if you are super happy here but it could still be like a semester abroad or something.3 -

@jugar Welcome home!! You guys are rockstars for coordinating team swaps.. that can't be easy to manage!2

Wow! Lots of posts to catch up on😊
@evangsimmons170 CONGRATS 👏 This is very exciting news indeed. Can't wait to hear more about it.
@Terytha Oh goodness, you have really been through it. Hugs to you and remember you are amazing and this to will pass.
@jugar Glad they finally let you back into your own country! It's a tough job eating lobster but someone had to do it 😋
@micki48 Sounds like a fun sleepover and love the random tiny boat.
@DD265 I bet it felt nice to get back with the trainer and super deal on the freezer.
I have been eating a lot more packaged foods or frozen meals with the start of the school year. I don't really like that and I have been reaching for foods that aren't the best even though I am in calories. I felt inspired to make a change to work on my food quality. I'm trying a 30 day free trial of weight watchers. I picked the plan that gives you less points but a bigger list of zero point foods. It does seem to help encourage me to pick better options. I will update more as I keep trying it.
Had a busy weekend with meal prep and all the laundry. It was really nice weather and I got outside a lot. Helped the boys build a giant dinosaur for the garden, because it won't fit in the house. It was a gift my husband received from a former student. It was scanned from the tiny wooden models and sized up by a fancy computerized saw! It is about 7 feet tall!

@conleywoods Will be fun to follow your journey with WW and how it impacts the quality of your food decisions!
Exercise catchup:
09/26 - 8,917 steps
09/27 - 17,289 steps + 15 minutes Pilates + 14 minutes yoga4 -
@conleywoods Love the dinosaur and hope the WW goes well. Its nice to have a reset option.
@Terytha Glad to see you back and hope you are feeling well. Sounds like a rough moment but its got to get better soon! I'm looking forward to hearing an update from you.
@micki48 I love to find random things like that... I imagine in the middle of the night those pirates just sailed it there for fun. Or its a part of our "simulation"...
Here was my recent find. Someone had to work hard to get this baby out here. Why would they just leave it? Its a least a mile from the grocery... on a cobbled or dirt path... what the world? This is near the farm fields where I run. Maybe someone was planning ahead?6 -
Tuesday Weigh-In
PW: 215.0
CW: 219.6
And that, folks, is what fried fish and beer for an entire weekend will do to you! I'm shifting focus to October. I'm definitely frustrated with how 2021 has gone overall for me - lowest weight ever in mid-February, only to regress almost 40 freakin lbs, and now birthday/holidays/year-end loom once more. I need some new inspiration and motivation, and maybe a less aggressive approach to exercise. My morning routines have been going well, at least. Very much looking forward to sweater weather and the point at which I really need a sweatshirt for my morning walk.
@micki48 @conleywoods @Steph1498
what fun pics and random finds!
@evangsimmons170 congratulations on your (re)engagement!! A holiday wedding sounds dreamy.
Since the quarter is almost over again, work is pretty quiet so I should be able to get my workout in and lots of walking today, + time to prep my butternut squash for dinner without being rushed or getting over-hungry.
Happy Tuesday, team!7 -
@conleywoods
Love the dinosaur! I also want to let you and everyone know that next month we are running a full month challenge to cut out the CRAP in our diets - Carbonated drinks (except seltzer, I hope!), Refined sugars, Artificial food, Processed food. I'm sure there will be a range of definitions on some of those, but it will be a good time to spend the month keeping to a more whole foods diet.
I have been remiss on weigh-in reminders so far this week! I know most of you are great about just weighing in anyhow, but I know the nagging is occasionally useful. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it!

My marriage is suffering but we are talking it out. I know one day it will be OK but the stress of getting to that point is a lot.
My boss was fired. I'm taking on as much as I can. I like to be needed. It's important to me to be useful.
I need a vacation. Please cross your fingers for my trip to Vegas in two weeks not being canceled.9 -
@Terytha sending you ❤ huge massive air hugs 🫂. You're going through some tough times at the moment, but know that you can lean on us.
@evangsimmons170 Congratulations to you - wishing you both the very best.
@conleywoods - everyone needs a 7ft dinosaur!
I met up with my reading group this afternoon and I had a caramel latte and a slice of coffee and walnut cake. It was delicious and I'm not sorry!
Enjoy the rest of your day, Friends!

@bonnie_red I listened to this TED talk today and thought of your question about long works days and making good food choices. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ted-talks-daily/id160904630?i=10005367738885
