Here is your Team chat room for January 2022. This is where you weigh in every week, post your goals and progress, discuss any issues or topics of interest, share ideas, support your teammates, receive help when you need it, and dream big. Try to post often, and help each other succeed!
We have five great teams. The group and team leaders are as follows:

HOW IT ALL WORKS:
Every challenger weighs in on their chosen day, every week without fail! At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard!
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Username:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you take a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or are moved to the Support Team for longer. You can remain on the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone! You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team!
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month and year begin!!

Welcome to January!
This is our home for the month, where all of our triumphs and challenges take place. Please (re)introduce yourselves and set some goals and daily actions for the month. Focus on the small every day choices, and you will get where you want to go!
I am Liselyn, co-captain along with @ashleycarole86 . I live in rural Québec, and I'm a retired university professor of music. My weight loss story? After being somewhat overweight for most of my life, I really packed it on while in an admin job that involved a lot of sitting, meetings, travel, and meals. I tried many times to lose, but it was not until I was 58 that I got really serious with both food and exercise. In 2022, I'll hit 10 years on maintenance, always refining and making sure I don't have to do it all over again. Yes, it is possible to lose weight and get in shape during and after menopause!
I know there are people on this team who have a lot to lose, others who have lost a lot and are closing in on their goals, and some who might be working on losses that are stubbornly resisting. There is much wisdom here, and the most important lesson we learn from each other time and time again is that it is not a straight shot, there will be trials and errors, and sticking with it when it feels like you have fallen off yet again is the best thing you can do for yourself. Plateaus can be good, but going back the way you came is not!
Some helpful information/tools:
Posting your daily updates
We know from experience that posting daily (or as often as you can!) makes a huge difference to your success. Use any format you like to let everyone know how you are doing on your daily goals and habits. You can report on food, exercise, water, sleep, or whatever you are tracking and trying to stick with. While you're there, talk about how you are, ask questions, and if you can answer someone else, please do! Congratulate others, commiserate, enjoy someone's rant, or go ahead and rant yourself. It all helps make the kind of community where we are in each others' heads when the hand is reaching for that off-plan snack, or the couch is feeling way too inviting...
Weighing in
Please try to weigh in on time! When you post, put your weigh in at the TOP of a message, so it is clear and easy to find. If you cannot post your weight for whatever reason, please request a week off, or if you need a longer break, you can request to move to the "Support Team" where you can still participate but your weigh-ins will not be part of the weekly tally. This is where members who are ill, on vacation, or just needing a break can hang out for as long as needed.
The F2F Habit Tracker
If you want a simple place to track your most important habits, give this a try. You can see how your teammates are doing too The link is under "Announcements" on the main F2F page. Or go directly to https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1P01XALdKMuhQ23SyxP1eVXNgqJRvJFgP46OXFY8WwxE/edit?usp=sharing
So everyone, tell us a bit about you, your goals for the month, what steps you are going to work on. It's fun to know your name and where you live (if you're willing to share that), what brought you here, how your weight loss journey has been, and where you are headed now. Let the introductions roll!0 -
Happy new year all!
I'm Katie, 33, living in the UK with my husband and our two cats. I work in IT, full time at home for now. I gained weight in my early 20s and in 2021 had a really focused 6-7 months then lost some of that focus in August, and am now back to a weight I was in March, so 7.2kg lost last year in the end. Some of that should come off pretty quickly I hope! I run and weight train (with a personal trainer) and my arms are still killing me from Tuesday morning. We also walk quite a bit, though no 20 mile walks are planned for this year! I like to cross stitch in front of the TV (it distracts me from snacking) and also do a lot of decluttering, particularly as we're part way through renovating the house.
My biggest challenge is portion control, and I can snack on a 300g bar of chocolate in an afternoon with zero thought, so weighing things out is really important for me. The other thing is my husband is training as a police officer; his shift pattern should begin in April. This is going to be a huge lifestyle change for us and we've started batch cooking in anticipation, but I'm sure we'll need to make other adjustments too.
I'd really like to hit my goal weight in 2022 so I'm going to need to work pretty hard, especially as I've gone backwards a bit. I want to lose about 20kg, not 100% certain of the final number, so roughly 1lb a week as there'll be the odd one that doesn't go to plan, I'm sure.
My aims for January are 100% accountability with my tracking, 2 litres of water drunk a day, and to post here daily.8 -
Yay! Happy January to all!
I am new this round. My name is Jenn. I live in Massachusetts, USA with my husband, daughter, a dog, and two cats. I am an English professor who struggles with emotional eating. I love yoga, weightlifting, and aerobics. I am currently the heaviest weight I have ever been and decided to join a group to help me focus my energy on better wellness.
Goals for 2022[[/b]
I like to keep my goals flexible and open, nowadays. However, I want to drink at least 120 oz of water per day (measured by two of my water bottles) and dedicate to nourishing my spirit with ritual several times a week (yoga, ritual, tarot, spellcraft, meditation, affirmations, etc.). Those are the two things that will make the biggest difference for me this year.

Happy New Years everyone,
My name is Nancy I am 40 years old, I live in Quebec Canada with my husband, daughter, son, daughter in law and our 5 bullmastiff/Italian mastiffs dogs. I also have another daughter and a grandson.
I am at my heaviest weight ever and absolutely am disgusted with myself. I don’t drink or smoke so food is my biggest addiction. I was a PSW for 16 years and always moving around, lifting etc but recently changed careers to working as a hospital administrator..which means I am sitting 7 hours a day.
My current weight is 199.7..I am looking to lose 70 pounds this year and keep it off!!5 -
Hi everyone! My name is Wendy and I live in Connecticut. I am married with two daughters. My youngest is 16 and still at home and my oldest is away at college. I am excited to try to do this with a group. I am making major life changes in 2022. My main goal is to lose weight and improve my health. I am at my heaviest and feel unhealthy because of my weight. I have owner a small business for 25 years and sold it yesterday. I am terrified and thrilled about this. My life has been incredibly busy for 25 years so I am looking forward to putting myself up higher on the list of things that need my attention. I need to for my health.
I have never done anything like this but am excited to work with a group of like minded people to achieve our goals. I really look forward to doing this with you all.6 -
This is so much fun - I always get a thrill reading the new introductions every month, even for members who have been here for ages. There are so many different life stories but we're all here because weight and health became an area we decided to seriously address.
@Nancy52781 you are the team's 3rd member from Québec! I am in the Eastern Townships (but worked all my career in Montréal) and @planemonkey (Courtney) is in Gatineau. Whereabouts are you?
@twdempsey That is a BIG change - selling your business just yesterday - YIKES! I am glad you're here to work on yourself now, though. This is a great time to take that step, try all kinds of things, and see how good you can feel. You are now high on the list! Scary, but fun.4 -
Hi everyone. I am Michele from North Carolina, USA (for now) I'm 57, married for 38 years and have two grown children. One of each. I have a precious granddaughter, Juliet, that is my heart and world.
Welcome new friends and those returning. This is a wonderfully supportive and inspiring group of people. I have been with this group for almost 4 years now, I think!
This past year has been a struggle. I am actually up about 5 pounds from where I was this time last year. Despite my efforts here. Thing is, if I hadn't stayed around, it would be way worse, I am sure. My total loss has been around 23 pounds. At the start of the pandemic, I was at my lowest (188) and it's been a slow climb ever since. I know there are things I can do to tighten up. Even though I've seen a net gain this year, there are so many things that have improved. I practice pilates regularly, was walking fairly regularly (until recently). My "healthier" food choices are automatic...well, up until the last few weeks. But, even then there were days that I CRAVED a good salad. So that's a new trick.
To be honest, I am struggling right now. My family is looking at some pretty big life changes as a real possibility that could involve a move back up to the Philadelphia area. We'll know more in a couple weeks. I think I know my daughter will be getting this job as I have spontaneously broken out in tears looking at all the work and packing that needs to be done. And I'm not a big cryer.
I have had a hard time setting goals, thinking about goals, etc with this stuff ^^^^ looming over me. I've had dreams about a big wave crashing on me on the beach. I wake up in the middle of the night with Frozen words "Let it Go" and "Into the Unknown" swirling around in my head. (Granddaughter LOVES the movie FROZEN. So there's been a lot of that lately.)
Yesterday, the shower head literally broke while I was in the shower. Today, as I was getting in the shower, I took off my FitBit and saw this...
My first thought was, "OH NO!!!!! I hope these things are NOT a metaphor for 2022!" But, then I decided to change my mindset and look at it a different way. Out with the old. In with the new. Turned out, I love my new shower head that my son in law just happened to have on hand and I have TWO extra bands for the FitBit. As I write this, "Let it Go" literally came on the Jazz station I was listening to. LOL There are soo many funny coincidences in the world.
So, I think I'm as ready as I can be for 2022. I filled in the tracker. I'll be tracking, logging and closing the diary, 8k steps/day, 15 minutes of exercise, self-care daily, 80 ounces. My goals are to get myself back on track. Lose some weight and improve my health. (My RHR has recently gone up to 73 from about 65 - perhaps lack of walking)
I'm going to take each day as it comes and if I need to move, I will do it! Out with the old and in with the (sort of) new.
Looking forward to a wonderful January with all you LOVELY people.

I’m Gary, I’m 50, and I live in Florida USA. I was down as much as 47 pounds last year and ended the year down 30 - the last 5 months were a mess! I’d like to lose another 30 pounds this year which means I need to get back to logging my meals, walking, and working out. I’m a stress eater and I tend to eat poorly when we travel. I do much better when I stay involved with this group so I plan to be around more. Good luck to everyone, let’s make 2022 awesome!9

Hi Everyone,
My name is Tammy. I’m 51 and live in St Albert, Alberta with my husband, two sons (20 and 17) and my two beloved cats.
I have been on this weight loss journey for a long time, but am finding that losing weight during menopause is a whole new ballgame. I am a yo-yo dieter - each year I go up and down the same 20-30 pounds, but am finding things are getting more challenging with each passing year.
I love walking, and my husband and I try to walk most days together.
Alberta has been in a deep freeze for weeks now, with temperatures below -30 (sometimes -40 with windchill), so I have become unmotivated and stuck to my sofa over the holidays. One more week of crazy temps in the forecast before we see some good walking days.
I like a fresh start, so January 1 is a perfect day to be joining a new group.
Hope to meet some like-minded friends to share this journey with.
Tammy

Hello, I'm Sylvia in Massachusetts, US. I'm 52, single, no kids, me the youngest kid who never really left home, full time office job, and now am playing a major role with my aging parents. The last couple months in particular have been difficult - dad is already in tough shape these last 5 yrs....mum was diagnosed in Nov. and now on a palliative chemo route for esophageal cancer (if you suffer acid reflux - don't brush it off!).
I joined this group in January 2020 when I'd reached my highest weight in the mid 190's after decades of ups and downs. The accountability, support and support and support found here, helped with a significant loss and I felt amazing. I've discovered that maintenance is not easy and especially in the last few months, falling into old 'I don't care' mode and so many things to take care of that I easily just eat to try to solve the stress. It doesn't solve the stress and then adds more as I find a pair of pants that don't fit anymore (again). BUT here we are, January, and as cliched as I felt 2 years ago, I am doing the New Year's resolution again. Whether you've been here a while or are new to the group, I'm happy to start out on a fresh foot for 2022 with you....my goal is to be where I was 2 Augusts ago...about 15 lbs from where I am now. I went for a walk today and am satisfied that I ate well.8 -
@jugar I just posted in the December chat, but I'm so sorry that I'm late with this week's weigh in.
CW: 171 lbs
This Christmas involved way more eating that I was expecting!
My name is Bonnie - I'm almost 32 and I live in Toronto, Canada. @kellie_erin is my twin sister and she inspired me to join this group! I'm a PhD candidate (which I'm trying to finish up my thesis - 2022 will be the year) and I work full time, so I am having trouble finding the time and motivation to eat healthy/exercise. But I am hoping that 2022 will be the year!
This group is so supportive and I really appreciate the community! Looking forward to a great 2022 with you all!6 -
@Waifer003 Another Albertan! Welcome aboard. We have a few Albertans here, and my daughter lives there too - I visit as often as I can manage, and will be there in May. It sure is cold right now, though, so I understand your frustration with missing outdoor exercise when it gets down to minus ridiculous. One thing that has helped me a lot in the bad bits of winter (I'm in Québec) is an indoor bicycle or some other thing like that - I am not allowed (by me!) to watch an episode of anything if I am not on the bike for a minimum of 10 miles. Exciting shows often clock in at 12-14 miles! Even marching in place or some other mild movement is better than just sitting. Every little bit helps!
Do not worry about menopause. I lost all the weight I needed to during menopause, and have kept it off for almost 10 years now. What foods you thrive on will change, most likely, and those things may keep changing. I find that moving away from fortified, refined, modified, and other even well-intentioned alterations to food has helped. Eat "real" foods as much as possible, plenty of vegetables, fruits, whole things, not too much flour, sugar, and all that fun stuff. Already that makes a big difference, and I don't sweat carbs, proteins, and all the numbers too much. It's all a big experiment to discover what will work for you while your hormones do the crazy dance and settle down eventually. But it can work well!7 -
Just want to send out a very special welcome to our brand new members for 2022:
@metaphysicalstudio
@twdempsey
@lonestarbabe
@veronica1359
@alexpufhal
@Nancy52781
@Waifer003
And welcome back to the regular team @kellie_erin @conleywoods @evangsimmons170
As one of your co-captains, I am here for whatever you need me for. My main role on this team is to manage our step challenge, the details of which some of you are already familiar with. We are in fantastic hands with @jugar at the helm and you will find lots of great support from our amazing teammates. Let's make 2022 our year!9 -
Step Challenge
While it's a step challenge, your daily steps from your tracker AND your minutes of intentional exercise will all count.
Please let me know if you're joining for January (returning members will be automatically re-added unless you tell me otherwise), and provide me with a daily step pledge (if you'd like to make one) so I can include you in those stats as well.
Then, report by the end of the day Sunday for the Sunday-Saturday of the previous week. You're also welcome to report daily like me, or whatever is easiest for you. As long as all the week's stats are there by end of day Sunday wherever you live, your steps will be counted in my weekly report.
I can attest to having to report in making it easier to get the exercise done. If you're motivated by the same, join us, and let's get inspired by one another. No matter your goals, all are welcome!4 -
Happy Sunday!
While I'm doing the tallies for last month, here is the list of everyone whose weigh-ins are due today:
@YinxFed
@deniners2
@graceojo999
@twdempsey
@lonestarbabe
Week 1 of January 2022 is up and running!2 -
Hi everyone, my name is Ashley, I'm 35 years old, and I live in Airdrie, Alberta, Canada with my lovely husband and fellow group member @bowens1973 . When he and I met in late 2017, I had just lost a bit of weight by exercising and eating more intentionally, but the joy of coming together, COVID, and having an amazing cook for a husband who also loves to dote on me through food meant that A LOT of eating was done in our first few years together. Not only that, but Brad was awaiting a hip replacement surgery that he did get in late 2020, so before then he was fairly immobile and leading an active life together wasn't something that felt possible.
Fast forward to Jan 2021... I knew my weight was starting to affect me in a major way, I felt tired and sluggish all the time, I had sleep apnea (still do.. although we're getting retested once we get down to a healthy BMI to see if weight loss made any difference or not), and everything just felt HARD. I woke up one morning from a terrible dream and just felt moved to make a change. I hopped on the scale, recorded myself at 293, and my weight loss journey started that day.
Since then, I've been tracking every bite, staying within my calorie goal, moving my body, and staying intentional with my choices. I am down 105 pounds and have the last 20 left to go to hit that normal BMI range. Making new habits has been absolutely critical. There are so many things I do automatically now that were not part of my life a year ago.
Changing your life IS possible. I had given up... things seemed grim... I was doomed to always be overweight, and yet here I am. There was no magic, no secret, just a good honest look at myself and a decision that getting my health in order was more important than anything else.
I will say that I am blessed to have my husband on the same journey. As we are both logging in MFP, meal planning at home is easy because we have very similar goals. I am also blessed to be part of this amazing community. Checking in for accountability is a huge key for me. I am a "gold star" type of person who loves to check a box... and coming here and reporting in speaks to that part of me.
Well.. there's lots more that I can say.. I love being active and was very athletic as a child but also grew up in a house where we ate anything we wanted and ate for the wrong reasons, so when the sports slowed down in high school, the weight gain began. I've been overweight my whole adult life.. getting down to a health BMI will be new for me. My mom is severely obese and while she's only in her early 60's the weight has started to take a major toll on her and I was walking into the same path before I started working on myself.
I look forward to getting to know all our new members and as always I love learning more about those that have been around for a while. Let's make January a GREAT month!8 -

I have a question about the reporting. I have been walking on the treadmill but not reporting that since I have my tracker on while I walk. I've only been reporting my total steps. Should I have been reporting my total steps AND my time on the treadmill?

Happy January! I am 43 years old and have four children and a wonderful husband. I stay at home, and I cook everything we eat, so I am able to control our food completely. We rarely go out and grab something (maybe once every couple of months). That helps me and my husband out a lot. He is really fit, and he watches his nutrition as closely as I do. It's nice that we both do. It helps me out a lot that I'm not the only one. I want to lose 40 pounds to get the rest off. I have lost 36.6 so far. The treadmill, weight lifting, and step aerobics are my favorite exercises, and I do them all from home.
I have four children, and they are all out of the house! Freedom! Haha. Now, I'm just waiting for grandchildren.
Here's to January!8 -
Hello, I am Kelly. I live in New Mexico, USA with my husband, our 4 kids ages 2-17, and our dog, Lilly. I teach Kindergarten. I joined this team in January 2019, when I was trying to lose the baby weight. My weight loss has been minimal compared to some, but I dropped a pant size each year. I feel pretty good about that. I love this group and find it to be so supportive.
My 2022 word is consistency. This applies to my entire life, not just weight loss. I did print off one of those monthly color sheets and hope to have most of it colored by the end of the year . I initially got it for exercise (which I didn't do yesterday 🙄) but I might get one for logging to.
My January Goals
1. Log everything (I don't remember the last time I did this for the entire month)
2. Daily Activity
3. Daily 15 min clean ups (this will reduce my stress)
Welcome to all the new people. I hope you enjoy this group as much as I do.5 -
Steps
Sun 5,975
Mon 8455

Tues 5,554

Thats right. I didn't reach my step goal AT ALL. 0/7🙄 Probably my worst week 2021. Igo back to work on Thursday, but I just have 2 days of in-services. I am going to have to work to get my steps this week. I am going to work hard to get my 10,000 each day this week.4 -

No - the steps alone tell the tale. If you run, however, there is a "supplement" that can be added, so you could report how many minutes of your time is running and around what speed. I do that with my snowshoeing - the steps count, but then there is an add-on for how much harder those steps are!1 -
Happy New Year Everyone and a very big welcome to the new members of our team. My name is Brad Owens and I am the proud husband of team co-captain Ashley Owens - @ashleycarole86. We live just north of Calgary, Alberta, a short drive from the Rocky Mountains where we love hanging out. We are also the parents of Morgan, our 2 year old Maltese pup.
I am an avid cyclist and train most days. This time of year (-30C most days) you'll find me on our Peloton (#KingOfTheClimb) but the moment the weather improves you'll find me on the roads around Alberta. I've signed myself up for my first two Gran Fondo races this year. Both of these are 160km efforts through different parts of the Rocky Mountains. This will be the main focus of my fitness goals for 2022.
My weight loss journey began about 9 months ago and since starting I've lost close to 100 pounds. My rate of loss has dropped off considerably recently and I need to get re-focused. I attribute this to the colder weather (less walking) and less vigilance to tracking. However, with the holidays over, it's time to get back at it. I am 35 pounds away from my ideal weight. My motivation is two fold: 1) Every pound I lose equates to better performance on the bike 2) there is a 13 year age difference between my wife and I and I want to spend as many days as possible holding her hand and hiking in the mountains.
Finally, to our new members... Congratulations on taking a positive first step towards your better self. I would like to offer you a few suggestions:
1) This is YOUR journey and you need to do this for yourself, but that doesn't mean that others (kids, spouses, pets, etc.) can't be amazing motivators and reasons to stay the course.
2) Try and visualize how great you'll feel when you've reached your goal and use this as motivation. My experience has been that my imagination downplayed just how amazing the freedom of carrying less weight is. It feels amazing!
3) It's not easy - losing weight and keeping it off takes serious effort and dedication. We don't subscribe to quick fixes or fads. These are not sustainable and in most cases aren't healthy. I love the fact that no food is "off-limits" provided you can build it in to your calorie allotment. Be sure to celebrate the milestones along the way.
4) You are surrounded by people who understand you, support you and are cheering for you! If you need anything, have questions or just need to be propped up a bit, ask. Many will drop off over the course of the next several weeks but you don't need to be a statistic. Battle through it, lean on us and stay the course!
Wishing you all a very Happy and Healthy 2022!
Brad...

Exercise for week 4 December:
Sunday - 8031 + 45 min. bike
Monday - 7737 + 15 Pilates, 45 bike
Tuesday - 8462 + 30 Pilates, 60 snowshoe (supplement of 78 per min)
Wednesday - 9471 + 10 Pilates, 45 bike, 40 snowshoe
Thursday - 12,075 + 45 bike
Friday - 6721 + zip nada
Saturday - 9363 + strength training 12 min.
I did not hit my 10,000 steps, but at least got off the couch a bit! We had some icky freezing rain and stuff for a couple of days that wrecked the snowshoeing, but it has been snowing for a while now and it should be a lot better soon.6 -
If anyone wants to look at the chart of step conversions, it is at
https://www.arhs-nc.org/live-healthy/data/StepConversionChart.pdf
It is not perfect, but I think @ashleycarole86 has worked out a great system. I always used to feel left out of the step team thing (before we started using this tool) because I could never reach the kind of steps that some people do (they are amazing!), even though I was getting a lot of good exercise. This seems to be a simple way to get more people involved in the team and to encourage adding minutes of just about any kind of exercise. We usually don't count housework or other normal daily tasks, but there are a lot of ways to do things that count. Go for it!4 -
