Hi, @EvMakesChanges! Finding that "middle of the road" mentality has been a particular struggle for me. I have an "extreme" personality, which I have been tempering since I become a mother 9 years ago; I discover that extreme approaches to situations are just not sustainable or authentic, especially as I age. But the "middle" is hard to find sometimes.

Flying high during step aerbics yesterday; picture is blurry due to the high energy output!

1/5 exercise:
6555 + 10 minutes of bodyweight exercises
I find it super hard to get my steps (or the recommended 10,000) without actual exercise. But I know that rest days are beneficial. So I'm still trying to figure out that balance5 -

Let's pretend THIS never happened. Back on the horse this week. 😑7 -
@KellyBgetsfit increasing my protein intake might be a good shout - I'm averaging somewhere around 15-17% I think so it could be a bit higher. I'd quite happily swap a pack of crisps for chicken or nuts5

I feel so lost on here! I haven't read many of the posts, and I'm just feeling so out of it. I've had no energy at all. I started feeling sick on the 3rd, and on the 4th, I figured it was a sinus infection. I just got my covid results, and I am positive. It's kicking my butt! At least I don't have to have the guilt for the downturn in my steps. That was really bothering me. I hope everyone is doing well! I'm going back to sleep, and I'll have to catch up on here when it doesn't feel like my head is going to explode. Ugh!9

Proud of you for facing it. I know you were not wanting to get on the scale. So much of this isn't real gain and it'll be off in no time.
Knowledge is power!4 -
@lonestarbabe Oh man - sorry to hear COVID got you... take it easy, and never feel bad when you fall behind on posts... this group can get quite active and at times be very quiet, but we are here for you in whatever way you need.
@kellie_erin Agree - especially when the weather is so cold and I have a sedentary desk job... I love to do other forms of exercise too so to add 10,000 steps on top of that can feel challenging. I have started walking while I watch TV to help.
Having a fairly quiet day, just getting back into the swing of things and doing some stuff around the house. Gotta love a work week with only one day of work4 -
@metaphysicalstudio Love that photo! You are on the bounce for sure. Looks like fun!
@bowens1973 Yep, back on that horse (isn't his name Peloton?), but I sure hope you enjoyed having a splurge for a bit. Now catch up to @ashleycarole86 and start getting ready for those fearsome mountains. And Ash - you rock. Going to visit family, tons of driving, and you lost 3.6 pounds! Spill the secrets to that formula, ok?
@MandiSaysHey I love your simple goal - a net loss for January. Getting the food side of things back on track is, as you say, the priority. Go for that one perfect day, and it'll get going for sure.
I had a rather imperfect food day both yesterday and today - exercise OK, but mid-day loss of control Yesterday after 2 hours at the dentist (ugh) I was really hungry and ate most of a fougasse. Yep - bread! It was delicious, but kinda wrecked my day. Today it was a nut and dried fruit mix. A little small bit of it after a lovely healthy salad for lunch turned into finishing the whole batch. I'm really anxious about my daughter - seeing the doc this morning for a rather perplexing and potentially serious problem. So I'll let it go, and have rapini with fish for supper. She's calling shortly!6 -

Hope everything is okay with your daughter @jugar
In terms of the last week, my weight the week before was a high point in my weekly trend so that contributed to my result today. For my trip, I just switched my calories to my usual maintenance - 10%. I'm at a point where I do that now for specific times when I know things are going to be less simple. Then, I am as good at my logging as I possibly can be. I've already given myself the break by going up to maintenance so I don't then take another excuse to go totally wild. I was mostly able to stick to that, but when I did have a few days where I went slightly over calories, I cut back in the days that followed by the same. If I was on my deficit I wouldn't do that, but since I was eating at near maintenance, the days I cut just put me back around my usual deficit (so it was what I eat at normally anyway).
Kept my exercise up in ways that were manageable on the road. I've rode the bike a lot since I got home.. I am doing a few challenges on the Peloton and I was behind on the programs so I doubled up on rides to catch up. Not torture - just fun!
Off to get a super early night to bed so I can be refreshed for my first day of work of 2022.5 -
@ashleycarole86 @eggfreak Great losses this week!!!
@jugar Sending good vibes for your daughter. Hope everything is ok.
@lonestarbabe Sorry to hear you have Covid. Hope you feel better soon.
Brad. You’ve got this. I fully expect to see that weight gone shortly. 👍🏻
Hope everyone feeling under the weather feels better soon.
Hit my step goal today. Took a nice walk. Worked in my garden pulling dead stuff. Started cleaning up the screened porch to get something done that I can do. Looking real good for my daughter. They are checking her references and saying very positive things. She also found a house we could all live in. We like it. Still scary to think about all we have in front of us. I’m not going to worry about things I can’t control and do what I can to make some progress. All food logged and diary closed. I guess my self care today was cleaning up the garden, getting fresh air and chatting with my niece.5 -
Hey everyone..I am back. I was in the hospital having a rough time. 😞 Feeling better now. I had some heart issues again causing massive swelling in ny legs. After a Lasix drip I lost 8 pounds of fluid. I still have swelling but we r working on it. My current weight is way up at 302 but that is better than the 310 last week. Getting back on track. Going to catch up on posts. Hope everyone is doing well.7

PW 88.7 kg

Most of that loss is water weight from my inflated gain last week. But still very happy.
Sorry I never introduced myself. I'm Pearl, 39, busy mum, in the UK, and in my last year (hopefully X) of studies for a degree in mental health. Been overweight/obese as long as I can remember and now trying to reverse that.
I have been reading all your posts and I'm sorry so many of you are struggling with illness. I hope you all feel better soon.
I'm a bit of a lurker here, read and enjoy this group immensely but not so good at contributing.
I completely overindulged over the holiday period, leading to a gain (in fact all of December was a bit of a bummer) but now back on the wagon. I attended my first yoga class this week which was an eye-opener. I felt super self-conscious and couldn't help noticing I was the only overweight person in the room. What was enlightening to me was that 10 minutes in, my mind was so zoned out that I was barely aware there were other people there. So I experienced it mostly as a mental workout. I was not expecting to enjoy it but I did and the 60 minutes went very quickly.
Welcome all new members and have a lovely weekend9 -
@lonestarbabe I hope you make a swift recovery
@jugar fingers crossed it's good news for your daughter
@kdblpn I'm glad you're on the mend
@micki48 that is sounding quite positive - hopefully the decisions will be made soon and then you can do whatever you need to do
Both of us have had a couple of rough nights sleep - OH more than me I think as he's very sore and was struggling to get comfortable last night. It meant I slept in a bit but the plasterers weren't early, thankfully. My day is pre-tracked, and we're having McDonalds for tea in sympathy for OH's rough week. The meal fits comfortably in my budget (I could go for a salad, and they used to be lovely but in the last year or so are disappointing), as my half-portions of sides are working out well which makes lunch lower in calories than it would normally be. Today's lunch is golden vegetable soup (butternut squash, carrots and parsnip) and a slice of bread.
I'm planning to do some baking this weekend; sultana flapjack, chocolate muffins (if OH can get buttermilk at the supermarket) and chocolate digestives. I fancied lemon drizzle cupcakes too, but I need to rework the recipe without any frosting and see whether they come low down enough in calories for my liking - under 200 feels acceptable and I think my recipes now are either 450ish or 350ish depending on the amount of frosting!
It should be a reasonably active weekend, as the plastering is due to be completed today and the entire house is going to need a deep clean. I organised my to-do lists yesterday (I've started following Getting Things Done principles, as I was getting a bit overwhelmed) and the main list is huge so I want to chip away at it. I'm not sure whether it'll translate to many steps, but I think it'll do OH good to keep moving so I'll be suggesting we walk if I'm not running.5 -

Happy Friday, Friends,
On Monday I started a new 12 week workout program - Heather Robertson's 12 Week 2.0. It's on YouTube and it consists of 5 curated workout sessions for 12 weeks. I did Week 1 Day 4 - Unilateral Leg day. I love them!
With the new year I have also started meditating in the mornings again. I hope that I can keep it up as I always feel so calm and relaxed afterwards,
So sorry to hear about all the Covid-related angst that's happening amongst the group. I'm putting positive vibes out to the universe for everyone.

1/6 exercise
12,945 steps which included about 70 minutes on the treadmill.
My hubby and I trying to transition to barefoot style shoes so I'm relearning how to walk without all the support I'm used to. I'm a bit skeptical as I've had foot, ankle, knee, hip, just general joint problems all my life. But this is actually supposed to help so I'm going to see what happens. It was my husband's research that initially got me interested as he's on this backpack hiking/camping/scrambling up mountains kick.
I got sent to work from home yesterday as there was two cases of COVID in the office staff at the gas plant I work at. So I'll see how long that lasts - definitely positives and negatives for both options...
@jugar is it okay if I switch my weigh in to Saturdays? Is it a bit of an experiment to see if it'll keep me more on track for the weekend4 -

Best thing I ever did was to go zero drop on all shoes, and minimalist on many - pavement still requires a bit more give than anything else, but the barefoot ones in the woods and other places are amazing. I had knee and hip issues and neuromas in my feet - all a lot better with this footwear. I hope it works well for you! Take your time. Check out Nutritious Movement (a website by Katy Bowman) for all kinds of great stuff.
Saturdays it is! No problem.4 -
@kdblpn
So sorry to hear about your health woes - I figured you must have been seriously under the weather to have dropped away like that. Would you like to go on the Support Team until you're back to somewhere more normal? Or keep weighing in right away? On Support, you are still on the team, you can weigh in if you want, but it does not count in the team tallies until you choose to come back onto the "regular" team. Let me know, ok? And keep getting better1 -

PW 200.4
CW 200.2 Not much but it's green so I'll take it.
Pilates with a roller done first thing. Felt really good. Now, I need to get moving. Had a big scenario talk with my hubby this morning trying to figure out how things might go. Good to get some things out. We don't have all the answers because we just don't know. Breathe!!
@kdblpn So sorry to hear you ended up in the hospital. Hope things start moving in the right direction for you. Sending good vibes your way.
I'll check back in later. Hope you all have a good day.5 -
There are some seriously good weigh-ins. You have more than made up for those who are still struggling with the end of holiday madness - the team is grateful!! Thanks @Pearl4686 and @evangsimmons170 and everyone else who lost earlier in the week - you're doing great.
I managed to pull a small loss out of my bad couple of days - phew! Back into my maintenance zone. I had slipped over for a bit there. Today is calmer. I had a long talk with my daughter last night, and even though she is facing some pretty serious weirdness and has to wait for consultations in neurology and who know what else, it seems to be something that is potentially solvable and not a degenerative condition. It's rare and weird, and the main worry is that it will take time for the specialists to be able to see her while covid is raging around. Fingers crossed! She is in amazing spirits, and will be allowed to work starting on Monday if she promises not to lift anything over 4 pounds, walk around too much, and pretty much do anything but breathe and sit at her computer. Luckily she has lots of recruits to boss around The Army is fun for that.
OK - off to try a new gluten free bread recipe so my taller half can satisfy his sandwich craving. Tally ho!4 -

Yes, I think I had better. I'm disappointed, that's for sure. I thought this might just be a day or two like it was for my husband when he had Covid, but it doesn't look like that'll be the case for me. Thank you!
Thank you to everyone for the well-wishes! I'll be back!5 -

I'll have to check that out! Thank you for sharing your perspective. I know the frustrating thing for me is that no place seems to sell zero drop shoes. So we've ordered some online with our fingers crossed that things will fit right 😅3 -
