I hear you, Connie. Feeling how much harder it is to get out of bed 30 pounds up (without using my arm to push off with) has been a real eye opener. How in the world did I carry all those extra pounds! More so than hot momma looks, I want to drop these 50 pounds for my poor hips/knees/feet and back (so far they aren't complaining, but they will eventually!)
@psychod787, I have to call you Psycho for short - can't resist that (unless that would not sit well with you). Wow. What a journey you have been on! Glad you are here with us - I could use some of the wisdom/knowledge/systems you must have gained along the way.
Day 5 of my countdown Yesterday was a tough one. I think the hamsters are on to me!

Ma'am, you can call me anything you like, except late for dinner. Real name is Dalon. I am glad to be here as well. My...errrr... adventure has been a downhill, then an uphill battle. I would be happy to share anything I have learned.@psychod787 are you trying to stay up, come down a bit, or are you relatively indifferent?
How are you doing with the cinder blocks in the driveway, or are you now back to "normal" gym equipment, or have you cut down a bit?
Just looking for that "sweet" spot, no pun untended. Yep Alec, I've been back with "real" equipment for about 18 months. I live in Florida, and we un-shutdown pretty quick. I also have completed a modest home gym. Lots of hand me downs and sales I found. Cinder blocks were effective, but killer when I dropped them!2 -
Back from a month long hiatus..and things could have been a lot worse weight wise. Well they were...but mostly in my head it seems. The scale seems to be happier.

A curious milestone passed, 200lb overall loss. We don't use pounds here so it doesn't seem like one...on the other hand though I'll take anything I can get lol.
Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays, and wishing a happy new year to all. Onwards!3 -
@psychod787 I can only say that dropping a cinderblock on one's foot would be counterproductive!
@Dante_80 hold on there brother from a different mother and another father... you took a month off logging during Christmas and you LOST weight?
That's amazing!!!
And awesome❣️👍4 -

Ah thanks..well the thing is..I overate during Christmas and New Years, so then I was feeling pretty guilty and proceeded to...not really have a diet break.
Didn't log but upped my physical exercise considerably (I had vacation time these days). Before I weighed today, I thought I had actually gained, but fortunately that was not the case.

In May 2019 at my highest weight I was in Obese Class 3 which they called morbid obesity at that time. As of today, I am in Obese Class 1 which they label as low-risk obesity now. I am amazed at how far I have come. I have lost 40 pounds since then and am so much closer to my goals. When I lose about 34 more pounds, then I can say I am just overweight. LOL4 -
SO much inspiration here today!
Psycho (though you have properly introduced yourself, Dalon, I can't resist and it really does go with the image PAV brought of you and cinderblocks), very pleased to meet you. And I would never call anyone late to breakfast - or any meal for that matter. I'm hoping to soon be doing some strengthening work after having shoulder surgery in the fall and being relatively laid up for 2 1/2 years - coming from a landscape design and build lifestyle that involved cinderblocks and all sorts of heavy things at this point I'm actually quite excited by the idea of lifting a cinderblock again! (though I think maybe I will probably have to make that my upper limit from this point onward in life).
Dante - wow - congratulations! On your 200 pounds lost milestone and especially on your amazing response to holiday eating. I'm impressed and inspired. That is how I think I will need to move forward in this lower weight life. Eating to my hearts delight on special days - and working to balance it out afterwards. That seems worthwhile to me - and so much less stressful than trying to figure out how to dodge the delicious foods of love bullets.
ABD - you are so very consistent. Just reading your updates leaves me feeling satisfied - great work.
I'm not sure what happened to my last (lost) post...but that is okay, because today was the same as yesterday, but now that yesterday's post is lost I get to post a positive update today!
The countdown continues:

20220105 - 30
20220106 - 28
20220108 - 26
20220114 - 25
Slow - but that is okay. I know I'm eating well and with omicron playing games inside of me and lots of swelling still on my right side the weight is bouncing around like crazy. But that is okay because I'm almost as firmly on track in my food choices as my right arm is in its socket - and that is an astounding sensation!5 -
This week's stats
SW (17/3/21): 96.0kg/211.2 lbs (BMI 40 - category 3 obese)
LW: Scale weight: 67.0 kg/147.4 lbs (BMI 27.9); Trend weight: 67.6 kg/148.7 lbs (BMI 28.1)
CW: Scale weight: 66.4.0 kg/146.1 lbs (BMI 27.6); Trend weight: 66.9 kg/147.3 lbs (BMI 27.8)
Down 1.3lbs for scale weight and 1.4lbs for trend weight.
Once I hit 66kg I'll transition to 'maintenance lite' calories to inch slowly towards 60kg and ultimately 54kg.6 -
Good work, Bella!
I was up again today for the second day in a row. No reason - food has been under sedentary maintenance, and I have been walking 2x day - not long walks but hitting 10,000 steps. Not going to sweat it - but it doesnot give the same glow as a drop or even staying the same.3 -
Blah. It always sucks when "you do the right things" and the scale doesn't reflect it.
But, and that's a big but, to avoid a substantially bigger butt 🙀, you don't just do the right things for scale rewards and you (hopefully) build trust in the process that IF you ARE, indeed, doing "the right things the overwhelming majority of the time", the scale levels will eventually reflect t that.
In your case Laurie 33 to 25 in 10 days is not minor and a good portion would HAVE to be water weight unless you're managing 2500 Cal a day deficits, which would be ... a bit intense I think.
In any case: sharp drop, apparent stall, then dropping weight at closer to expected rate given size of deficit seems to be a common pattern!
Get rid of things that rhyme with Ovid and all will be good! 😹😘4 -
Hi all.
Just checking in as I haven’t since before Christmas. It’s so great and inspiring to see people back at it and continuing on. I feel like this group “gets it” and I’m truly happy for everyone’s continued progress and support those of you whom share your struggles..makes me feel not alone. I was down right flabbergasted that I didn’t gain 15 lbs over the holiday diet break (only one lb up!) but then I got right back to it and am already down again. I was so hoping to be able to hit under 200 by mid feb (as gulp...I’m keeping my trip plans and heading on vacation then) ..but I’ll have to be happy to just be healthy and active! Anyway, here’s my numbers.
Height: 5'8
Age: 39
Start Weight and all time high (dec 2020): 308lbs😳/sz 22
LastW-218.6 (before Xmas)
CurrentW- 210.0
Next Mini GW- eek..dare I say it...199lbs!
Ultimate GW 160-175ish🤷♀️
98 lbs total loss....another 35lbs left to goal...I still wonder if I will ever reach it...5 -
Glad to seen you, Joone! You did so well over the holidays - that is a major accomplishment that many of us wish we had managed
199 is just around the corner in the context of your journey. Where are you going in February?
Thank you for the pep talk, PAV. I'm not really too disturbed - the "disappointment" faded in just a few minutes. That big C is just about gone I think. This is a lovely little version of the virus. Hope it has left me OMNIPOTENT4 -
Lauriekallas, sorry to hear you are struggling with the virus, not fun. I’m impressed you are still keeping active and on plan.
I’m heading out to Dominican Republic (taking all safety precautions and insured out of my ying yang)with my middle son (age 12) as it’s our mom/son trip that was unfortunately canceled last year (due to covid and my cancer diagnosis and treatment). Was okay with going last fall when I booked it until the new strain took front so now I worry more but if I learned anything this past year..it’s that time is precious with my kids so I’m no longer willing to put things on hold as I may not be here next year! (This includes sticking with getting healthy and working to a good weight🙂)

Hope you have a spectacular time with your son Joone. Make those memories!
I’m doing physical therapy for the hip issues which is now diagnosed as tendonitis. The daily exercises seem to be helping. But I miss doing my daily 3 mile hikes. I felt well and strong then. Looks like that will be a thing of the past. 😥. The inactivity makes continuing weight loss very difficult and I think there’s a degree of water retention too. I can’t function on 1200-1300 calories so I’ve bumped up to 1500 which is nearly goal weight maintenance for me.
I don’t seem to have my head in the game right now. I do well to log and try to stay around 1500. More than that is a struggle.6 -

Keep at it ABD!
Yooly... you're in the game because you still care!2 -
Good going, ABD.
I agree with PAV, Yooly - you for sure are in the game - and you for sure help keep me in the game. I hope you get some relief with your hip. I've had luck with the osteopath/kinesiologist I was seeing for my shoulder. He did a bit of a head to toe and he really helped my hip that I hurt when I fell a few years ago, and kept irritating by walking/cycling anyway. It wasn't the weakest link in the chain so I ignored it - but what a difference after his help.
My "number" went up a bit again today - but it was well worth it because I had a great...(I know I shouldn't say that)...late day "snack" of pancakes yesterday night. Wow. I thought I showed some restraint - as in I certainly didn't eat any more pancakes or dose them with more maple syrup than anyone else I've ever served pancakes to - but still there went 1000 calories.
Oh they were good calories though. And I woke up to a foot and a half of snow today - so all felt well with the world somehow. Not that I burned any calories shovelling any of that beautiful white stuff - but Laine and I did cheer on my helpers - a friend from a few blocks away, a neighbour from a few doors down and then the two boys from up the street. Again, I felt wonderfully blessed.5 -

I'm almost back to where I was on the 13th. Was nice to see a drop this morning...but wow this is painful. I've been here before - which is why I end up going to an extreme deficit out of frustration, which has the danger of ending in binging. I'll try to hold on to this moderate deficit...easier thought today when I've gone down rather than up!6

Good job ABD. How fast is your trend moving?
Laurie what kind of deficit are you targeting? 500?1 -
PAV - I'm just trying to keep a deficit at this point. Any deficit. Loosely aiming at 1650 calories a day - but trying to stay cool about it all so I don't go all wingy. These past few days walking has been way down so 1650 calories a day will give me somewhere near 300-400 calorie deficit. More walking - higher deficit - and I might perhaps eat more? Trying not to be hungry - but to eat wisely.2
-
@PAV8888 I'm not sure I understand the question. Here are stats from the app: Trend 237.7 lbs. Rate -2.6 lbs/week. This month -6.5 lbs2
-
Laurie your plan seems solid enough and workable! Especially the "wisely" part.
ABD @Americanbabydoll you're doing an excellent job so far, woohoo!
And the first few months (I believe it is usually considered--as a general average--the first 5 or 6 months) people can often push a bit harder than they can push longer term without too many side effects;
Of course, with a lot of weight to lose, the game lasts years not months!
I don't know your previous history with diets and such. And what may have contributed to you discontinuing managing your weight in the past.
I did sort of notice your January numbers, and you confirmed it based on your trending app. And the quick spreadsheet I just did also confirms it.
So I am just letting you know that your numbers are saying that you're increasing your effective deficit as you're moving along. This may be something you're doing consciously, or something you're doing unconsciously.
If unconsciously, you may want to start considering the total size of your deficit as a percent of your TDEE and at what % levels you may want to manage that at moving forward.
