Logging 2 runs. I had an easy run yesterday after work at the waterway. It was a lovely day, sunny and 60 F. This morning I had a workout with 40 mins at HM pace. Paces weren’t great. After warming up, I started out too fast because it was cold (34F) and my legs were feeling fresh. The next split was a little slower but still too fast. The next one was basically right on but the last mile was too slow. So basically positive splits across the 4 full miles in the workout. Despite not having the workout end up what I intended it was a good run and I enjoyed being out this morning. And, foot and ankle pain is gone! I have been rolling and stretching throughout my day, so I need to keep that up because it’s definitely helping. And I loosened the lacing on my shoes a lot.5 -

I slept terribly last night but still dragged myself to yoga this morning and then forced myself to get my run out of the way on the treadmill

@martaindale Nice running and glad your ankle is feeling better.
@katharmonic You did great to get up and do your workouts when you didn't sleep well. I hope you get better rest tonight.
I was scheduled to work 12 - 5 today, so got up in time to get my workout in before leaving again. I got up at the same time as yesterday and then realized that I had a couple of things that I really needed to do before I left today, that I didn't have to do yesterday, so didn't have as much time. As a result, instead of doing a 30 min easy pace run, I just ran one mile at a faster pace. I did run/walk for 4/1 minutes. The walks were at 3.8 mph and the runs were a ladder, 2 min at each level, from 5.0 - 5.4 mph. Wound up doing the mile in 12:08 minutes. Not horrible for me at this point. I also walked one mile at 3.8 mph and did my back exercises.4 -
6.2 miles this evening. Was a slow, mostly easy run. I just hate that 1st mile!

I have decided I am really just cold averse! I could not make myself go out this morning in the 30F temps.
Lots of pictures and stuff about Zion below: TLDR - we are loving it here!
Every time we go out I am just amazed at how beautiful it is! I hadn't planned on running yesterday as we planned to get into the park pretty early since we didn't know how busy it would be (not very!) and they limit the number of cars allowed in. We had planned to hike/walk the one trail where pups are allowed and probably the only trail my husband will go on. The trail was pretty flat and the views were incredible. Honestly though everywhere you look is incredible. We saw a herd of deer and Hobbes went crazy wanting to see what they were and chase them I imagine.Today we drove to the 'other' side, through the tunnel towards the East entrance. There was a trail I wanted to do that had ben recommended and I thought dh would go with me and leave Hobbes in the car. Once he saw the trail (initially stairs carved into the rocks) he was not interested and stayed in the car and I headed up. I only went about half way and struggled honestly in some areas. The rocks were solid but they were slippery with sand/dirt and I just didn't feel comfortable hiking by myself so I went as far as I could and then figured I should go back. I wish now looking at the maps that I had continued on. The worst part was that initially area and the rest is pretty easy.When we got back to the hotel I decided to get Hobbes out for a run (since it was now in the low 60's F). We headed out to a park a local had told me about, in search of a dog park by the river. Didn't find the dog park but found lots of trails and had an amazing trail run! If I lived here I would be out there every day. The scenery and views were just amazing!
The view looking back. My husband is in the parking lot below...I will definitely be going out for another run on these trails again on Thursday.
We crossed over and ran along the river for a while but 'trail' there was very soft dirt and difficult to run on.
Found a better trail
There is a hiker coming up the trail behind us
Ran along the ridge line and was greeted with a phenomenal view in every direction
The valley in the middle is the town of Springdale looking toward Zion national park.
Note: I haven't edited any of the pictures other than to crop some of them. The sky really is that blue!7 -
Tried the new shoes this morning. Nice! Definitely seemed to help with the worst of the niggles. And seem more grippy than my last pair. I also went up a size. I'd heard these were a different fit, and people weren't wrong.
It's incredibly hot here, and so humid. As soon as I got home from work we took the kids to the beach to cool off. Totally worth it!5 -
Great running everyone.
That first mile is often the worst. So glad it got better for you @Scott6255 .
Beautiful pictures @shanaber ! Enjoy the rest of your trip....I'm sure you will!
Glad you are liking your new shoes @Avidkeo .1 -

February Goal: 140k
Mostly cloudy, mid 30s F, and a gusty wind from the south. I had absolutely no strength today, so I cut it to 4k. In addition to my usual birds, I heard a mourning dove and red winged blackbirds. The blackbirds are here 11 days earlier than they were last year.
@shanaber I don't normally gush over pictures but those are spectacular.5 -

Sleasy recovery run this morning. I went to the trail in my neighborhood for the first time in a while. It has been raining just frequently enough that it has been too muddy for my road shoes. But it’s been a few days since we had any rain so there were only a few slightly squishy spots toward the beginning that are easy enough to jump over. I really love running out there. Quiet with a layer of fog settling over the water.4 -
Checking in!

@Tramboman the more rest days I take the less energetic I am. what's up with that? Hope you find some nrg tomorrow.
Almost 70 today so I am going to try to pick up some tennis activity this afternoon after work!4 -

That often happens to me, too. Today was just one of those days, I guess.2 -
Thanks for the warm welcome! 😊
@martaindale, that sounds lovely! Do you have a lot of nature where you’re from?
I haven’t been posting my stats lately, but I have been keeping up with my workouts! I’m really enjoying getting back into running so much that I actually went and bought myself a pair of Brooks Glycerin! Love these shoes 💕 I’m also stepping up the pace from a sleasy walk, to a wog!

Today felt so much warmer, I think it was in the mid 40s but the sun was out and it was comparatively so much better. I went for a run after work and it was nice to not be so bitterly cold and that it's noticebly staying light a little longer.4 -
February Goal: 30 Miles
2/6: 2.26 miles
2/8: 3.32 miles
2/9: 3.20 miles
8.78/30 miles completed for February
I ran another 5K this morning. It was another pretty, clear morning. It was a little colder than I like, but not windy so it was nice. I saw a fox at the park. I can tell that my stamina is still not where it was, but I'm getting there. I did get my average pace under 12 minutes.
@shanaber Those photos are amazing.
@avidkeo Nice shoes!

Thanks all - the landscape and sky are the real stars. No run today, We drove to Bryce Canyon and hiked around there for a bit. Funny story - I set my watch for a walk when we were hiking out to take pictures. I forgot to end the workout and did that at the hotel figuring it would just credit me for the active portions... nope. It said I got my longest walk today - 56 miles 😂😂😂 I will be deleting it and have added a 2 mile walk which is much closer to reality.
@Teresa502 - I am glad you are going to Bryce too. It is so different from Zion but so amazing and otherworldly in its own right.
It was cold out on the trails there - mid 30'sF without any wind chill consideration and the wind was howling to the point that it sounded like rushing water. Just a couple of picturesTomorrow we have nothing planned other than a run with Hobbes. Hopefully my quads will have recovered by then! They are complaining a lot!
Hobbes getting to explore the snow
One of the trails... Many were covered in ice and while I had my trail shoes I did not have spikes for them.5
