I haven't kept up well but I have been reading and learning. I seriously do not think I could maintain a jog at under 120 hr. My avg for slow talkin type runs is 150's

Scott, have you tried running on the "other side" of the road? I have a bad right knee so I run on the right where the slope put less pressure on that knee.

78.55 out of 150 stretch goal this month. Honestly I will be happy to just get more mileage than Jan and Feb 128+miles . I have found that focusing on pace tends to make me want to do shorter runs. Today I did 6 and just sort of cruised at 10 -11 min miles until I felt obligated to push the last one (late for work!) and do an 8:50 mile. I am finding that I do miss the 6 and 7 mile runs somewhat maybe more endorphins?

yesterday at lunch I think I finally got back in sync with the time change and my body and felt more energetic than I had since we changed last weekend. The same with waking up the hr earlier this morning felt more normal. I have an AF friend who swears that we adjust within 24 hrs but I always seem to take 3-4 days. I hope they decide to stop changing it back and forth. I don't care which it is but keep it the same and quit making everyone miserable 2x a year.

@shanaber thanks for sharing that story! Mildred is amazing!

@scott6255 I’m sure you already considered this, but how old are your shoes? Once I get 300+ miles on my shoes, I find the pavement much harder on my joints than the dirt path at the park. But I have very little treadmill experience.

    77.15/100 miles completed for March

It was perfect running weather this morning and I ran just a smidge over 5 miles. The moon was so pretty and I figured that a few of you were probably out running under the same moon and I thought that was pretty cool.

I am pretty excited about going to see my daughter this weekend. I hope to get at least a mile in each day for the streak. There is a park near her apartment and she has already said she'd like to take us to walk there, so I know I will at least get a walk in.

@katharmonic an interventional cardiologist is one who does catheter procedures, correct? Did they find a blockage after all?

@rheddmobile yes, that's correct, and electrophysiology. He does have some blockage but apparently it is within normal limits for his age (mid 50s). He may be looking at an ablation depending on how the trial with beta blockers goes. Right now it's really wiping him out, which apparently is typical and it takes a couple of weeks to adjust.

I'm glad to hear you are running without having the SVT issues. I'm sure it's hard to run slowly.

What an upsetting thing about the raccoon with distemper. I hope your little raccoon colony is safe. You are such a good animal advocate and interpreter, your description is so sad.

Also I have noticed my heart so far behaves fine if I stay under 140, so that’s convenient that the two are so close. Well… by running easy I can keep it under 138 for a mile, but then it wants to bob up to 141. And after three miles it starts climbing until by the end of five it was hanging out around 151 no matter how slowly I ran. Also I get super bored and my form is hard to maintain running that slowly!

This past year I made a purposeful shift to make my easy runs actually be easy. It does feel really hard to run more slowly when you first start doing it. Over time, I noticed little changes in my form like shorter steps with a faster cadence and just straight up using less effort on my easy runs and those slower paces start feeling more natural. Hang in there!
Re: daylight savings time… And in the high summer when pre-dawn is the only tolerable temperatures for running, it becomes downright obnoxious because Memphis and Germantown make it illegal to use a park before 6 am. In August it’s already over 90 F by the time it’s legal to run!

The park cutoff totally sucks. I hear you on the pre-dawn summer runs! So so so hot!

Also, re:raccoons. It’s interesting that you say scientist have said they are solitary. My experience has also been that they formed little groups. We have several little roaming families in our neighborhood that you see from time to time and rarely is one by itself.

@Teresa502 We must have posted at the same time on Tues. I was just going back to see where I left off and saw your post. I read the article on jogging and think it really is spot on. When people talk about me running they say things like, "I wish I was a runner, but I just can't." "I'd be dead if I ran a mile." I try to tell them that they don't have to go fast. They can take it slow and walk when needed. I do think non-runners believe that running means going as fast you possibly can every time you go out and, pushing yourself to the limits with every workout. Jogging does NOT have the connotation to most. I love it. Maybe I'll start using the word jog to people to see if they can be inspired to try.

    I love Mildred's story @shanaber !

@kgirlhart Enjoy your weekend visit with your daughter!

@martaindale I like daylight savings time, but then I am not a morning person. But, I do like have time after work, even it I work the late shift, to get outside and either exercise or get some work done. Things I would NOT do in the morning. Glad you were able to get out later yesterday for the trail run and see your trial friend and dog.

@Scott6255 I'm glad treadmill running is helping your legs feel better. As you know, I don't mind the treadmill, especially for relatively short runs. It does get a little boring after 5 or 6 miles though.

@marisap2010 Good luck with your marathon. Look forward to seeing your race report. I think you will like the 80/20 running. As I read the article on jogging that @Teresa502 posted, it made me think of the 80/20 strategy. You don't need to run fast every run. This approach really helped me mentally, if not physically, to get in those long miles for the HM training last year. Which 5K plan are you going to do, Level 1, 2, or 3?

@katharmonic Self care is so important and something that most of us don't do enough of. Glad you were able to do that this week. Glad your BF is going to get a second opinion.

@rheddmobile So glad you are able to run faster now. I love that you raced the little boy. I'm sure he got a kick out of that. I can understand you being tentative about running there again. Firsts are the hardest. Since things went well, I'm sure the next time will be a little bit easier for you. That's so sad about the raccoon with distemper.

@shanaber Your pictures of the stadium and LA are great. I don't recall it looking that pretty whenever I drove in when I lived in San Bernardino.

@Scott6255 @polskagirl01 is running still and posting on her news feed. She is now on the opposite side of Poland, away from the border. If you are on Facebook, you can read what she and her husband are doing in Poland here: https://www.facebook.com/WhitesInPoland/

3-16 - 1.00 mile walk on the treadmill
    3-17 - 1.00 mile walk - 2.00 mile run - driveway laps
3-18 - 1.00 mile walk after playing doubles tennis in the morning

    35.55 miles/60 mile goal

I played tennis this morning, after working at the daycare from 6:30 - 9:45 am. It was fun. Feels like it has been forever since I have been able to play. I didn't have to go back to work afterwards, so came home, did a mile walk on the driveway, and then took a nap.

Big news is that I got my new Garmin Wednesday night. I like it, but it needs to do some learning about my sleep. Last night I only was only able to sleep a little less than 4.5 hours. I felt like I was awake looking at the clock all night. I don't know why I do that when I know I have to get up earlier than normal. Do you all do that? Anyway, I felt like I had no sleep, but Garmin says: "Even though you did not sleep long enough, your body recharged well." Think again Garmin. Think again. LOL

    Watch porn in the spoiler.

New Garmin on my wrist. I decided to go with a color other than black. I like it.

It looks like a lighter color here. The one on my wrist is more true.

@quilteryoyo nice watch! Is it the FR745? And thanks for the update on @polskagirl01

Did another 6 miles on the treadmill. It's not bad if you have Netflix and Amazon Prime Video 😁

@Scott6255 Thanks. Yes, my watch in a Forerunner 745. I still need to play with it some and finish setting everything up, but so far I really like it. Great run on the treadmill. TV is a good distraction for treadmill runs.

@kgirlhart Sounds like one of those rare, wonderful runs. Glad you got to see Sunny. Hope he is doing well. Have fun with your daughter.

@polskagirl01 You are doing great with keeping up some running and bless you for your efforts at helping the people of the Ukraine in anyway you can.

@quilteryoyo Nice watch! I think you're going to love it! Garmin always overestimated my sleep too. It did get a little better with some time but it definitely lacks a little. I actually thought Fitbit did a pretty good job with sleep tracking.

@shanaber That article was interesting. I'm going to have to see how my training plans stack up proportion wise. I usually just pick a plan and go, so I'm not sure how the workouts vs easy runs break down. It would be interesting to see since so many of these plans are written by people who also train elite runners. I do my easy runs around the projected pace the 80/20 calculator said for zone 2 so that's good I guess. Well, usually. I need to get back to that.

@polskagirl01 what you are doing is so much more important than sticking to a training plan!
Faceboom reminded me this morning that it's two years ago today that we ran our simultaneous Ran It Anyway HMs. Not sure if it feels like yesterday, or a million years ago...

I agree on Garmins being pretty bad at reporting on time asleep, mine often says I was sleeping while I was working just because I was sitting still at a desk. My Fitbit was really spot on where sleep was concerned, but pretty bad at everything else, lol.

Less than a month now until my next race, so the nerves are starting to appear. It's another mountain HM with plenty of elevation, including the lowest part being around km 17 and then it's pretty much uphill until the end. There will be muttering and swearing, I'm sure.
Then I have another HM on May 1st, trail but flat, followed by a 17k mountain race at the end of the month. There's a road 10k that I was signed up for in 2020 that will now be in the middle of May, no idea whether I'll go or not. Road races just bore me now, and it would make for a very tough month.

I'm trying to decide what to plan for after the summer. I'll probably go back to both the mountain races I did last year. We're waiting to see if a very popular local mountain race starts again this autumn. It's on the range right behind us, the race I ran in January was on some of the same trails. There is a short route of around 17km with a lot of elevation, and there's what they call a marathon though it's a bit longer, with a LOT of elevation. Cutoff time for it is 8 and a half hours. The website is all in Spanish but here it is in case anyone wants to come on an adventure with me 😂 maratonjarapalos
I've been saying that I'll do the short one this year, look for races in the 30k field for 2023, and aim for that not quite marathon for 2024. That's my sensible brain talking.
But my heart is impatient and those mountains call to me like mermaids every time I look that way...

Excellent job on your HM @katharmonic!

I did 12 miles this afternoon. It was a Hot 75F and 18mph wind, which made it a tough go. But good to get outside.

@eleanorhawkins It sounds like you have some great races coming up. I bet you will enjoy everyone, even though the nerves are getting to you already. Like you description of how the mountains are calling to you.

Great job on your HM @katharmonic ! It would be hard to see the finish line and then have to run on by. I think that would be really hard for a first time HM runner, if they didn't realize they weren't done yet.

    Nice long run @Scott6255 !

Great job on your Quarter Marathon race @marisap2010! Those looking hills are killers.
