Hi everyone:
Today completely got away on me right from the beginning. Had one of those days where one minute you're eating breakfast and the next minute it's 5 pm. These kinds of days are generally a major trap for me - hunger and fatigue have me reaching for easy carbs with zero nutritional value, and then once I make an unhealthy choice, I decide to blow it big. This newfound community was in the back of my brain as I somehow chose turkey rollups (smoked turkey breast wrapped around red pepper and avocado) - definitely a win and a rare decision when I'm super hungry and tired. They fill me up and I honestly love them. I also made a maple oat latte at home which I like better than the easier drive-thru Starbucks I seriously considered.
My knee swelled up a bit after my first C25K run the other night, but my physio said that it's totally expected after my injury. I was super grateful to get the green light to keep at the C25K program, but with a lot of tools to keep the swelling and soreness to a minimum while my knee adjusts to things again. Hoping that with each run, my recovery will get easier because I've really missed running.
I really do credit these posts/this team with bolstering my follow through over the past few days. These are the early days, but I'm hopeful that it sets a foundation for success... including weathering the inevitable bad days.
Also, are there any tricks to keeping track of who has mentioned you in a post? I need to follow up on a few, but is it just a matter of scrolling through previous posts as you write yours? Sorry if this is a silly newbie question - I'm just marveling at how some of you keep track of six or seven mentions, so if there's a trick, I want to know. Lol. I will follow up on them tomorrow, but for now, off to bed.
Goodnight, WAs!5 -
Good morning Waistaways π
My name is Cariad and I live in Wales, UK.
I am married and I have 3 teenage boys.
I work as a chef. Very difficult job while on a diet π
Can Friday be my weigh in day, please?
Last week I weighed in at 230lbs π±π
My plan is to just give it my best week after week. One week at the time.
I have 100lbs to lose and it just seems overwhelming how much I have to lose π
Have a lovely Thursday everyone π6 -
@jane_76 if somebody tags you like I just did, there's the little bell icon in the top right which is notifications and it should show there. I don't think it does anything if you quote, though. Mostly I write as I read through the posts in between, but sometimes there are too many and I have to skip. Nobody will be offended - there are times when all of us post our own stuff without commenting on others - and if it was important, you'll be tagged again.
Welcome to the team @welsh_cariad! I can imagine working with food is very challenging, as you'll never get a break from it. There's a concept in this team of a 'perfect day'. This means everything is logged and within your calorie goal, any exercise and hydration goals are met. They tend to be great for a 'reset' when needed; realistically we're not going to achieve that 100% of the time, though!
I went to the allotment yesterday and as expected, one of the arches was down - on the strawberry bed! Strawberries all fine, squash all harvested (they're decorative/not edible, so I don't care about being under ripe) and the arches are out for dismantling tonight. I'll need a new plan for the squash next year, but I think if I get a third arch, I could use them (shortened - easy to do) to make the frame for the brassica netting, as the pipes we used were way too small this year.
I have started the BED recovery plan in my book. Step 1 is tracking food and drink (not calories); times of day, location, whether you view it as a binge, any purging (which I don't do), plus context and any comments. The book explicitly says to do it on paper, so I've got a week's worth of sheets printed out. My biggest challenge will be not trying to rush ahead; the slower I take it, the more effective the results. The book says that the majority of people with BED have a tendency to overeat generally, so weight maintenance is more likely than loss. I know where I'm starting from, and will be weighing weekly, but as loss isn't the aim I'm not sure if I'll post them here.6 -

Bye, bye green streak. It was a fun week filled with so much love, laughter, and food with family. I was so tired yesterday, I slept in until 6:40!!!! I am usually in the shower by 6. My weight might have been lower yesterday because Tuesday was a perfect day, but yesterday, I nachos and a cookie and our work potluck. Oh, well. It is my first day of fall break. It is cold and rainy. I might stay in bed all day!!! We want to watch the new Hocus Pocus movie.
@moonlitmuse I read strong curves years ago, but I don't have a barbell. A lot people really like him. I follow Brett on Instagram and love him.
@kali225 I am sorry that your job isn't what you expected.
@yinxfed I am sorry to hear about your friend. π4 -

Being a chef while trying to lose weight and keep healthy must be a huge challenge. And 3 teenage boys - that sounds like another one! I had one boy, and one girl who was more challenging during those years, and we all survived. They are some wild years, though. Giving your best week after week is how to lose 100 pounds, and there will be weeks that don't go so well. Stick with it and get inspired by our members who have lost that much @ashleycarole86 and @Terytha (currently on support team). Make sure your plan is realistic - keep experimenting until you find the things that don't work and toss them out.4 -
Sorry I'm a little late! No change here unfortunately!3

@CupcakeCrusoe I am in awe of your pomegranate. I want to grow them. It is certainly too cold here, but I'm jealous all the same. Keep us updated so we can live through you. I devour pomegranates when they are in season.
@DD265 that book sounds really good. I think most of us love to eat, eat plenty, and fight the binges, so we can all learn from this way of thinking. Probably the most important thing I have settled on in maintenance (10 years this month!!) is that I can eat very large amounts if it is very high fibre and mostly vegetables. I can have treats, days of indulgence, and those kinds of things as long as they are followed by a perfect day to help keep them from spreading. They are self-contagious, for sure. My perfect days must include zero grains (but not low carb) to work well - and that also helps keep both the quantity and quality of food high for the day. Thanks for sharing the info from the book!
I have a full day of running around like a crazy person doing errands, then a walk with one friend and dinner with another, so I'll catch you later!2 -

Welcome Cariad, this is a great group!

Welcome, @welsh_cariad
I too was faced with the task of losing 100+ pounds.
One week at a time, one day at a time, one minute at a time.
Be here often..it makes a huge difference! I always do better when I'm dialed in here.
We are on a plane! Our credit card gives us free internet, so I'm checking in from the skies. Off to spend Thanksgiving with Brad's mom in Ontario so she's not alone.
Luckily we got lots of steps at the airport so I think hitting 10,000 again today will be on the mark. I had to work until 1 p.m. or so and then we got rushed to the airport and it's just nice to be relaxed and in transit.

I have had 2 perfect days in a row! I feel really motivated and l hope this feeling doesn't go away! I decided to do the weekly challenge this week and it is definitely helpful to come on here everyday. I have also set my alarm for 8pm and made sure that I have tracked for the day. So far that is working π
Welcome @welsh_cariad!
Have a great trip @ashleycarole86! This may be a silly question, but is Thanksgiving in Canada similar to Thanksgiving in the U.S. where a large meal is eaten together with family/friends? Any special traditions?3 -
It was such a perfect day today! Gorgeous weather, the leaves are all in their brilliant colours, and I enjoyed two walks with two different friends. And plenty of talk - it felt great to catch up and just spend time together. I got my Pilates and practicing done first thing, got all the running around done including a physio appointment and a sorely-needed haircut. I'm starting to feel ready for my trip next week!
Must be almost Friday - the list of weigh-ins due is long Love those Fridays. Here's the big list:
@AshenMoon (special honorary Friday person this week)
@PlaneMonkey
@EvMakesChanges
@conleywoods
@micki48
@LoraineGB

You bet!! My husband's mom wants to keep things simple so we aren't cooking but she's ordered in the full turkey dinner.
My husband's siblings aren't going to be there which is the primary reason we are traveling so she won't be alone for the holiday, but it's normally a big family affair for sure.
Not as much dedicated football time here but hey we'll still be cheering for the Bills on Sunday;)
Glad you've been having such great days!!2 -
@planemonkey - you are so lucky to have the Gatineau Hills in your backyard. Every season they're so beautiful, but especially as the leaves turn colour in the fall. Neat about the library lending program - @jugar has me thinking about giving snowshoeing a try, too. I have always been a loner runner, but the *one time* that I did a Running Room run with a group, I face planted on a dock because giant nail spikes had lifted. Of course I was the one to be taken down by them. It was so embarrassing. Not surprising that was the beginning and end to my group run career. Lol.
@conleywoods - thanks for the note. I feel you on the healing powers of a PT - so happy that you're getting relief! Also, deepest respect to you for teaching little ones - such a tough, but rewarding, job!
@DD265 - like in the UK, here in Canada we are notorious about our weather "small talk". It's so hilarious. Winter gives us a lot of conversation starters. Also, thanks for the tips re: mentions!
@CupcakeCrusoe - thanks for the note and relating to the consistency piece. Love the advice to take it a day at a time... or even an hour at a time, some days. "Noise", as you say, has definitely unnecessarily derailed me over the years.
My first weigh-in day is tomorrow - fingers crossed. I've had a pretty good week overall (which I largely credit to becoming a part of this team!), and I managed to complete the first two days of the C25K program which has me really excited for the days/weeks ahead. I almost had a "pistachio incident" today - bought some shelled pistachios as a healthy treat in moderation, but man, portion control with them is tough. Definitely my biggest test of this week, food-wise, but I managed to calmly walk away from the bag of (delicious) pistachios.
TGIF WAs!

trend weight from macrofactor: 179.
It also thinks I'm gaining weight (I'm not) because of the weirdly very low weigh ins I was getting while I was sick. So hopefully that will resolve in a couple weeks.
It's too early to see if we get roots on the cuttings, but I am similarly excited, @jugar. Pomegranates are my favorite, and the wood and leaves smell so good, too. We have a couple fig trees, and they like similar climates, so I'm hoping this works.
Have a great day, everyone!4 -
I'm late to the party but I'm here. I'm Sylvia,53, in Massachusetts. My weight's fluctuated throughout the decades, never remaining at a low for long. I did great with MFP and Waistaways support in 2020, lost 50 lbs and thought that would be it, the new me, forever, but no, up 25 or so lbs, it's a lifelong battle, I've learned I can't let up and must always be aware. There were major stressors in the last year but things have let up a bit...I must say 'no' to the wine and sweets...or I should just say 'no' to the 'stress grab', because I can binge on just about anything -bread with butter and jelly for example. But I am more in charge of what is in the cupboard these days and currently there's no open wine, chocolate, peanut butter, etc.
My goals for October, follow @KellyBgetsfit 's September example and be all in the green for October.
@jugar I would like to switch my weigh in day back to Thursdays please.

A great book for @DD265, @micki48, @Rachelw124 is called, "Go the *kitten* to sleep". There's a fun rendition by Samuel Jackson on YouTube I highly recommend. Of course, the book is for comic relief of the adults but it's good for stress release, which is half the battle!
It seems I just barely introduced myself in September and poof! here we are again. I'm Evelyn, mother of 2 adult daughters living in Vermont with my 3rd spouse, 3 cats, and younger daughter. I work part time as an Aquatic Aide in the Physical Therapy outpatient department at the hospital 1 mile away from my house. I like it a lot and will tell you more as soon as I can. I'll also post a photo if I can figure it out. I should say, "when". unless that's too much of a promise?
I'm off to see my primary care provider to check on my pesky ear (could actually be an infection that hasn't made itself known with normal brouhaha of pain). I'm sure they'll double check the bronchitis, too and verify that it's not, in fact Covid. I'll keep you posted!5 -
