HOW IT ALL WORKS: The November challenge runs from October 30th - December 3rd. F2F months always start on a Sunday and end on a Saturday, so adjust your calendars!
Every challenger weighs in weekly on their chosen day right here in the team chat thread. At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard.
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you take a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or are moved to the Support Team for longer. You can remain on the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone! You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team!
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month begin!!

I have never had this many steps in a week before. I should go on vacation without a car more often. We had to walk all over the resort and then we would always walk into town for shopping and drinks to change up things from the resort. I have also been exercising since I got home, im hoping to make a change. Today I went to zumba and then I plan on just getting all my laundry done and maybe do some things around the house or maybe get mentally prepared to go back to work. We took the grandkids trunk or treating Friday night and will go out trick or treating tomorrow. I love watching them run around all excited.4

Hi All!
Thanks for taking me in. I'm glad to be part of the Weight No More Team.
I'll be just turned 50 on 10/29. I'm a mother of 3 and grandmother of 3 (so far). I'm also a semi-retired registered nurse, currently living and volunteering in Rwanda, but my home base is western New York State. I have certifications in medical coding, grief counseling, yoga, zumba and most recently health coaching. I was obese as a child and have struggled with weight most of my life. Now that I have my health coach certification I know that I really have to walk the talk. I know what to do and how to do it, but accountability has always been my weakness. That's why I really appreciate a support group like this.
Peace, Jessica3 -

Hi I’m Melissa and here for the November challenge. Retired Nurse, love my chickens and duck, hunting, vacations, and losing weight, getting more tone and in shape to get rid of diabetes and high triglycerides and those meds. Also have Hashimotos. Looking to get back up to 7,000 steps a day then increase eventually to 10,000.

Any tips for traveling while keeping your calories where they need to be? I’m usually fine at home but if I go anywhere for even 2 days I gain a pound 🙁3

Although it's a pain to do while traveling, keeping your food journal helps to keep calories in control. I like to try everything, especially new and special foods, but take small amounts. Also stay hydrated and drinking plenty of water. Try not to let the calorie counting ruin your fun. Good luck and enjoy your trip.3 -

@colemanmelissa
Drinking a TON of water is always my tactic, so I am going to have to agree with @JessicaVRosati on this one. It's also important to remember that we tend to retain water when we consume salty/sugary foods, so the pound you believe you gain may just be water. You would have to eat about 3500 extra calories just to gain a pound, so it's much more likely that you're retaining water if you're seeing a jump in weight after just a couple days away.4 -
Happy New Month, Everybody! So happy to see all the new faces in the chat (and the old ones too, not that I'm calling anyone old, I swear)! For those of you who haven't seen this message I post at the beginning of every month, here's a quick intro on me:
I am minstrelofsarcasm, also known as Minstrel, also known as Ashley, also known as "that sweaty girl in the corner"... I am one of the co-captains along with the ever-marvelous @melaniedscott. My role here is to provide some real talk, some good motivation, and a few too many jokes about stress eating for anyone's comfort levels.
The Basics:
I am 27 and currently living in Ohio. I work as a combustion engineer for an industrial manufacturing company (I set things on fire for money). I am fascinated by all facets of science, whether that be nuclear physics, nutrition, geology (I hear it rocks), chemistry, etc. Feel free to ask any of your questions when it comes to the science of things. I can't guarantee I'll know the answer, but I can definitely figure it out and provide an answer in a way that's (hopefully) understandable.
Why I am Here:
I love numbers, and when I discovered that I could get healthier (as my doctor told me I absolutely had to do) by keeping track of numbers, I signed up for MFP. My original weight was 8lbs 2oz, and while I don't think I'll ever make it quite that low ever again, my goal is to never be above my highest weight of 234 (September 2014).
Despite having joined this wonderful community, I didn't take my weight loss or my health seriously until after I graduated college in May 2017 and was told by a different doctor that my eating and (lack of) exercise habits put me on the road to diabetes. I'll admit, I was terrified. I grew up with a diabetic parent who took no actions towards improving their health to reduce their dependence on insulin and is now facing some very serious health complications. I didn't want that to happen to me - I wouldn't want to put anyone through having to worry about me in the same way I worried about them.
So I searched "gym" on Google Maps, and signed up for a free class with the first place that popped up in the results, a spin studio. Since July 1st, 2017, I have completed over 1,040 spin classes. There was some… drama at the spin studio, so I no longer have a membership, but will drop in from time to time.
In other news, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in December 2019 after an arduous journey from doctor to doctor, through several misdiagnoses (why is it that the first thing a doctor will suggest is anxiety if you're female and show emotion in the doctor's office?), 14 vials of blood drawn for blood tests, 3 weeks of being unable to consistently feel the left side of my body, 2 MRIs, 1 spinal tap, and a partridge in a pear tree. I could go into a long rant about everything, and I have, but there's no need to fill my introduction with things I've written time and time again (I'll post a link to my blog, for those of you interested in my madness).
In Summary:
Since joining MFP, I have lost over 70 lbs, regained about 15 while on a three-month business trip in France (wine and cheese is my weakness), lost 5 of them, gained 5 of them, maintained throughout 2020, yo-yo'ed for the first few months of 2021, and here I stand (sit) around 170 lbs, over 60 lbs lost. I don't have a goal weight anymore, since BMI was developed by a mathematician and not a doctor, and as long as I feel healthy, I can weigh whatever I want (somewhere in the 150's sounds pretty good right now, but I guess we'll see).
As for exercising, I have recently joined a new gym. Between spending time with my friend (who has a personal training certification, and who I guess is now my personal trainer) and dropping in on spin classes and all the amenities my new gym has to offer, I am hoping to get back on track. Previously, I have had memberships with CycleBar, OrangeTheory, and F45 - By no means am I an expert on fitness classes, but I know a thing or two.
If you want to know more about me, or my journey, feel free to ask questions, or you can find my blog here: LINK
Blog posts I’m especially proud of:- Creating a Sense of Accountability - This is my first blog post ever, and I’ve grown a lot since then, but so many of the same factors are still present in my life
- More Work to Do - Here’s a confession of some recent unhealthy thoughts I’ve had regarding my health journey, and some of my thoughts may sound similar to ones you’ve had towards yourself
- BMI is BS - I essentially wrote a history lesson on BMI and why you shouldn’t base your self worth on it. Most likely, your BMI is misrepresenting you.
I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you even more as we work our way through the month.

@minstrelofsarcasm Ashley, I don't know if you saw the announcement but MFP will be retiring the personal blogging feature in a few weeks. According to the announcement, you have until 11/17 to download copies of your blogs if you want to save them, then the personal blog feature will go away completely on 11/21. Here's the link to the announcement:

Thank you Jessicavrosati and minstrelofsarcsm, ya next time I’m going to drink water and try to track my calories. I didn’t drink hardly any water. My mini vacations weren’t as detrimental to my weight loss as I thought. When I got back home I immediately got back into my routine and out of the 2 lbs had really only gained 1 lb. thank you for the tips I’ll be able to use them next time then not be sad when I get back home4 -

Depends on if you travel for fun, with someone or alone. When I travel alone in the car for shorter trips, I pack healthy snacks (fruit, nuts, veggies) and sometimes whole meals in a cooler. For longer, there are some aseptically packaged stew-like foods that I like (indian, usually and brown rice) that, when eaten in actually listed portion size, are not bad nutritionally. Or sandwich stuff. Or I stop at a grocery for better options ehen I get where I'm going.
When traveling with hubs, we pack breakfast and lunch stuff (oatmeal, english muffins or bagels or boiled eggs, cream cheese and/or PBJ, and sandwich fixins (or prepped sandwiches with veg on the side), fruit, sliced fresh veg) and then only eat out for dinners. And snacks, trail mix, single serve chips, etc.
That can help. BUT (and it is a big one) it is pretty common for your weight to increase when traveling --it isn't always indicative of actual gains... sometimes it is just your body dealing with stress. Cortisol is a killer.2 -

Nooo, I completely forgot to weigh in and contribute to the October stats! And I lost 3lb this week as well!
I still like having Monday morning as my weigh-in day - what's best for me to do please someone? Should I just record Monday's stats now or skip a week and start recording in Nov for November's stats?
I'm also not sure if I need to do anything to join the group for the November one or if I'm automatically rolled over as an October member?1 -

@healthygirlintransit - You got it! I will need your weight from this past Sunday for your weigh-in this week, unless you'd prefer we just copy over your weight from this past Saturday.Nooo, I completely forgot to weigh in and contribute to the October stats! And I lost 3lb this week as well!

Whoa whoa whoa, deep breath.
You haven't missed a weigh-in, according to the spreadsheet. October's stats only went through the 29th, with the November stats starting on October 30th (a little confusing sometimes, but as long as you weigh in once a week, the team captains can keep everything on track).
Just record your Monday weigh-in now, and I'll enter it as your first weight for the month of November. The three pound loss will go into record for the results posted on Sunday.
As for your membership, it rolls over automatically - you are all set!1 -
