Great focus @LoraineGB ! The Mizumoto Japanese Gardens sounds delightful! I don't think that I would have been to resist those concession stands, though!2
-
Impressive resistance of the food to stick to your window @LoraineGB .. sounds like a lovely activity
More sedentary day for me yesterday than my usual as it was a work from home day and we are under an extreme cold warning. I chose to spend time with family, which in my family (Brad aside) is always sedentary time. I'm in office today and donating blood at lunch which is a bit from my office so my steps will naturally be higher.
12/19 exercise: 3205 steps

Hey everyone!
I have my goals in the back of my mind but I'm also taking time to enjoy this time of year and relax. After Christmas I will definitely be more focused on goals. I have been reading The Obesity Code. My wellness coach recommended it. I am starting to add in some intermittent fasting to my goals. Right now I'm fasting until lunch, then eat lunch and dinner 600 calories each and hit my macro ratios for the 2 meals. No snacks is still a challenge and I am doing the IF a few days a week. Getting in workouts daily by snowshoeing. Next 2 days will be very cold so no outside time. It's getting pretty cold so the dog needs his coat and boots to snowshoe. A few pics for you guys!
5 -
Great pictures @conleywoods, the dog is so cute with snow boots on! And @LoraineGB kudos to you for passing on the donuts and cider.
I did not feel like working out at all today, but I made myself go to the gym and at least walk for 30 minutes. I'm glad I went, but I am exhausted...and I slept 10.5 hours last night! The flu and covid are going around the office right now...I hope that's not a sign of something to come.2 -
Well, Tuesday sure slid by fast! I'm SO jealous about your snowshoeing photos, @conleywoods - your kids are absolutely gorgeous and even look happy to be out there on the shoes! The dog looks a bit less certain but I'm sure that the price to pay to be outside with the people is completely worth it.
We had a day of exciting things like laundry and picking up things at the pharmacy, but my mom's "fitsticks" class was fun this morning. I did not manage my usual workout or walking, but I have a bit of a head cold, it seems, so I took a covid test (negative, thank goodness) and kept my mask on all the time, even during exercise. That in itself is a good exercise, right? Hopefully tomorrow morning I'll get a good session in before loading up the car and driving for about 3 hours. Then there will be a nice evening of rehearsals, so finally I'll get to meet up with all the folks down there and make some sounds together.
So, Wednesday folks (and 2 Monday folks who must be on the road too!) - I'll do my best to catch you on the fly. Send in the numbers and I'll get them when I can!

I think Iβm just going to have to step myself out of the stepping challenge. Now that Im part of the Apple crew, my coworkers gifted me an Apple Watch and Im still figuring out how it works compared to my previous Samsung watch and Fitbit.4 -

Thankful to be down a bit, especially with the holidays, but feel bloated and yucky. Trying to make good choices but yet still enjoy all of the holiday cheer, ya know? BUT! I bought new jeans this week and they were a smaller size and that felt amazing!6 -
Hello, everyone!
Last year, in December I found this group and it was amazing be with you for almost a year. In this period I accepted some challenges, I lost weight (and gained too), walked a lot, went to the gym ,everything was going well.
I had a travel and knew I could not do any physical activity, except walking and will not have a scale to weigh myself every week, so I asked for not take part in this group for two months. I traveled in September and infortunately got a bacteria. I felt so bad after some days, my feet was affected and day by day it was worst. I went to the hospital and stayed there for three weeks, in this meantime I made two surgery on my feet, I was treated with antibiotic for this period, but infortunatelly I had to amputate the hallux. I was alone in Turkey, the group I travelled with continued the trip that finished in the beginning of November, my trip was interrupted after two weeks and I returned to Brazil in October. I continue doing the dressing in a heathcare provider and at home, the healing process is going well, but it is a long time until I back to my normal life, so this is the reason I not appeared here after returning to home.
I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Thank you for everything. I love all of you.

@DianaGetsFit512 I am in the same boat as you! Since the beginning of December, I have not done well with my eating. I have been doing a lot of self reflecting the past few days and hope I will get out of this slump after this weekend.
@veronica1359 I'm sorry you have been having health issues, especially when on vacation! Praying for your recovery!5 -
@veronica1359 Oh that sounds like a terrible trip and so sorry for your foot! Glad you are home and healing. Thank you for the update. Wishing you a merry Christmas!1

Well I sent a post yesterday, but imagine my surprise when I was about to respond to one of today's posts only to find my post from last night still sitting in the "leave a comment" box! How maddening!
@veronica1359 I'm so sorry to hear about the awful time you had while on holiday. I hope you get some proper rehabilitation with your feet. Thinking of you.
@DianaGetsFit512 lucky you getting an Apple watch as a present from your work colleagues! And I know what you mean about getting your head around how it works because that's how I still feel about my Samsung Galaxy watch. Even though I've had it since the spring! I love it, but I am still discovering new things about it.
I finally got my bike, Friends!
And I've just done 10 minutes on it. And it was really hard! Well that was humbling! The good news is that I managed to log 2 km for my virtual Yosemite walk.
So glad I've got it, though!
Now I will try to send this post.

@veronica1359 So sorry you had that experience while abroad. I hope your healing and recovery are going well and wish you a Merry Christmas too0

So my flights tomorrow are booked through BA but flying on AA (long story and certainly not first choice). I have a 40 minute layover to get from my domestic flight to my international flight in Dallas. There is a storm coming through the Mid West and Heathrow Border Patrol start their strike on Friday morning just before I am due to land.
AA sent an email saying they would rearrange travel at no extra charge so I called them. They can't change my booking because I booked through BA. BA will not change my booking without referring me to a 'Change' department and will charge me and will not inform me of the cost until 24hrs later.
I am going to go to the airport in time to catch an earlier flight to Dallas in the hope that I can get there without too much delay.
Point of my story, I want to eat everything today. I'm not hungry, I am mad, frustrated, annoyed, worried, anxious and a few other emotions in between. Ugh!

I feel your frustration, @LoraineGB, we experienced the complications of AA and BA when we visited our son in the summer. We had thunderstorms to contend with, but no border patrol strikes. We also found AA to be the more helpful partner when it came to helping us after our flight (first leg) from Virginia to New York was cancelled because of storms over New York.
Try to find your Zen space to go with your deep breathing, that is bound to be necessary. My Zen space is playing with baby pandas which I can easily imagine. Amazingly effective. Thinking of you, Loraine. x2 -

I am actually surprised its not up. I am struggling.6 -
I have been talking with my husband and looking online for weight loss resources. My husband says I know what to do, my problem is more mental. Well I tried to look for therapists in my area who specialize in diet or weight loss, and surprise! I couldn't find any. The only ones I saw were inpatient treatment. I should also mention, I reached out to a weight loss clinic in my local network, who have a team of providers, therapists, and dieticians, and I am on the wait list and gave me an approximate date of June π and this was when I called in October.
So I was looking for self help books, thinking this may help. I found one recommendation for a book called "365 days of positive self talk for weight loss" by Shad Helmstetter, PH.D. I read the intro and found it very interesting. Basically self talk is the direction you give your brain to tell it how to run your life. What you repeat rewires your brain. Even if the self talk doesnt apply to your current state, you try to imagine what you will be like in the future. Kind of like the challenge our group is doing.
Anyway, there is a short positive message you read daily. He recommends to read it first thing in the morning and before you go to bed. I plan on starting this Jan 1 and hope that it will help!
Has anyone heard of this book or any similar ones?4 -
Sorry I missed weigh in day! I kept forgetting to log in. Been busy with both my toddlers being sick and my husband threw out his back or tore some muscles or something so he's down for the count. I have been doing everything around my place to take care of all people and animals and doesn't leave much time to oversnack or eat in general hah. Also sucks because I keep getting dizzy spells that I'm pretty sure are tied to my time of the month. All in all been a fairly *kitten* week or 2, but taking it one day at a time.
Weigh in day was Monday

I'm not sure if this picture will post but today I finished my Yosemite challenge from Conqueror π so pleased πππ5 -

Thank you Yinka! What a great idea, Iβm going to think about my zen space and try it out tomorrow. I work on trying not to stress about things that are out of my span of control but when I do get fired up, I let those emotions take hold and it sits on my chest. So it will be good to redirect and practice a calming technique, Iβll let you know how I get on.

@lauren_989
That sounds interesting about the positive self-talk⦠we could all probably use a little bit of that (Im a pro at negative self talk..)
@YinxFed
Have fun on that bike!!2 -
@ells_bellz Congratulations! That's a great accomplishment! And in a bit less than a month is amazing, good job on the dedication!2

Hi all! So much good to read this evening after a long day. I will respond more in the morning, because there is some really important stuff in there. But a few off the top -
@veronica1359 - I am so glad to hear from you. I wondered what had happened, and even though you have had an extremely difficult time, it is a relief to know and that you are now healing. Those kind of life-changing events are tough, and I hope you know that you are always welcome to drop in here and share your progress or just have a good time complaining about anything.
@loraineGB good luck getting there - it sounds like you're heading into more than one kind of "perfect storm". Hang on!
All of you struggling, feeling bad about losing the thread, not keeping track, not staying on track, not doing things "right" - it is the winter solstice, at least for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. I am convinced that eating more in the darkest time of the year is a strong biological urge. It will pass! The light will start coming back now. The threads, tracks, and commitments will be back too! Do not worry about letting the team down. Just don't leave, don't get too discouraged, and find the light where you are. Hugs to you all!

@jugar Please can I have a pass until January 13th as I am traveling and I don't know if and when I will come across a scale. I am weighing in a day early and am pleased to report I am under 215 which I had set myself as a goal to reach before I fly.

@veronica1359 I am sorry to hear of your ill health on holiday. I wish you a speedy recovery.
@yinxfed your tree is lovely, and I am jealous of your exercise bike! I need to sort myself out with something.
@KellyBgetsfit I hope you're managing some time for yourself.
@Micki48 nice one on the dietician! I've only had the one session so far, but it was helpful for sure. I hope the PT can help with your hip/foot pain - I agree with @Jugar that the foot is probably affecting the hip - shoulders can also do opposite hips (and vice versa) - these things seem to work diagonally!
@Jugar it sounds like you're having a great time at your mom's - and still managing to be so active. It's inspiring!
Lovely photos @Conleywoods - judging from some expressions on faces, I think you have a couple of cheeky monkeys there lol
@DianaGetsFit512 tracking is becoming harder for me too. Not sure whether it's the time of year with more temptations, or just that work has been manic and I don't feel like I've had the time. Maybe aim for one perfect day, or even just one little thing?
I hope your travels go more smoothly than it sounds @loraineGB. I tell myself food won't fix the problem when I feel that way - often that phrase actually works, too.
@Lauren_989 thanks for the book recommendation. I haven't heard of it, but might check it out. Do they do a "365 days of positive self talk for perfectionism"?! I've got "The Intuitive Eating Workbook" by Evelyn Tribole on the go. I've not had as much time as I'd like to really sit down with it, but I'm finding it interesting. It was recommended by the dietician I've started seeing.
@kto0194 that's a great loss for what sounds like a challenging couple of weeks. You're right though that sometimes it does us good to not have time to snack.
@ells_bellz and @caroleAnnM2 Yay you finished! Well done both of you.3 -
