You bet, I'll take them. I have been terrible with my reports lately but everything is nicely tracked and available on the spreadsheets for folks to see. Glad you had a lovely celebration. I have been eating a lot of salads this week but I had dinner out with some friends tonight.
Social eating for me is a general trigger.
I get caught up in the "well everyone else is doing it" mentality..4 -
@MoonlitMuse - OMG! I hope your pup is okay! My dog has eaten a ton of things (including an old peach pit), so we are also very familiar with the trips to ER and the induced vomiting.
@MaddawgMadsen - I have found that when I drink alcohol, I am inclined to eat more, so what I do is if I am going to be going out with friends for a drink, I eat a meal or a protein-rich snack beforehand, so that way I am not as hungry or inclined to snack. When I go out to dinner with my husband and we have a drink, I drink and eat the meal more slowly and also drink water in-between sips of alcohol. That has helped me quite a bit!
I also love ice cream, so at home, I always make sure to leave room in my calorie budget for a Yasso bar. They are delicious! My favorite right now are the Black Raspberry Chip. When we’re out, I have found that if I order a small, that is plenty enough because while they say a small is “one scoop” it ends up being more like two, and that’s close to a true serving size of ice cream. It satisfies the sweet craving and I also like getting sprinkles, which tend to be a lower calorie topping option, or whipped cream.
So quick life update - on Sunday night, we experienced water coming through our ceiling in our main bedroom and right over our bed. 🤦♀️ I’m now negotiating with insurance for them to cover the roof because that’s where the water came in from, and it’s been an ordeal to say the least. We’re also going away on vacation starting this weekend, and we really don’t want to leave our roof in its current state so the insurance company finally agreed to send out someone to do an inspection, and then hopefully a roofer can put a tarp down to prevent further water damage while we’re gone.5 -
@wishfuljune Yikes! I hope your roof gets its temporary fix so that you can vacation without worries. So much water in so many places these days... Drinking lots of the stuff is usually a good idea, but this is ridiculous!4

@jugar Having a plan that I stick to is my biggest tool for keeping trigger foods and habits in check. Also, including in the plan a day or a meal where I will track calories, but I will allow myself to go over my daily allowance.
For example, Friday is that day this week. 7pm MST (I live in Colorado) is the start of the first U.S. game in the Women's World Cup. I plan to be at one of my favorite restaurant bars watching this game. I have it narrowed down to two locations, but either one, I am guaranteed to go over my calories. But, it is okay because my plan also includes many days of sticking to my budget. This outing is my treat for doing that.
My one true food trigger is ice cream. It is the only food I cannot keep myself from eating if it is in the house. So, I just make sure it is not in the house. When I've budgeted calories for it or I have it in my plan to go over calories to allow for it, I buy a pint and share it with my husband.

@wishfuljune of gosh, Hope you can find a temp fix so you don't have to worry throughout your vacation. Water damage is not fun and can cause so much damage.
This is a great topic. I have foods that I can't have in the house, one being Twizzlers. They are my weakness and if I really want some I have to go out an buy a small pack to eat. No family size because I can't stop. I find at times I'm so hit or miss with certain foods too. I can have ice cream in the house for 1-2 months without touching it and then it hits me that I want to eat it all. Something I should work through.
Happy hump day6 -
@wishfuljune Eek, that doesn't sound good at all.. preparing for a vacation can be stressful enough without that complication. Hope you get it all sorted.
Even since I got home my allergies have really been acting up. I have been getting my steps but have been feeling run down otherwise so I haven't gotten back on the Peloton yet.
Food tracking has been better..not perfect, but better. Feels good to be moving in the right direction again.6 -

I'm at the hospital today getting my knee surgery and have just been weighed fully clothed. So I thought I'd use this because I won't be able to stand on the scales on Saturday.6 -

I hope the surgery goes brilliantly and that you'll be back in action soon. Hugs!4 -
Well today sure zipped by! I had my MRI and have been busy in the garden and doing other stuff. I decided to drive down to visit my dad for a few days - I'll leave tomorrow and be back sometime over the weekend. I will get in a nice trail ride early before spending hours in the car, though! I had a lesson/coaching session yesterday that about did both Jasper and me in! So we took today off I like working with a riding coach to make sure I'm not missing things, especially with a green horse. It was a good session, but I have a lot to work on We tried all kinds of things and got a good sweat on for sure. Tomorrow will be a nice trail ride and then Jasper will have to wait a few days to get back to work. I'm sure he'll be all broken up about that
I have still been struggling with consistency with my "normal" workouts this month. I'm outside so much that I don't feel much like slinging weights or getting on the mat when I'm inside. But I need it - I find that everything goes better when I do at least the bare minimum of keeping those muscles working. Yesterday and today OK. Will try to keep it up and get the habit back in place.
Thursday heads up ----

It's Wednesday and I'm heading to bed. I promise I'll touch base tomorrow and catch up with you all. Sleep well - I know I will!

@wishfuljune why do things like that happen just when it's least convenient. Not that a roof showering your bed with water could ever be considered convenient, but just before going away for a relaxing break is the ultimate in bad timing! I hope it gets fixed up without any more problems. Enjoy your holiday.1

Donut World?? I can say that neither Oregon nor Colorado have this. In Portland, Oregon, Voodoo Donuts is all the rage. In my small hometown, there's a place called Up With Donuts. Apparently it used to be Up Your Donut in the 80s. And, my current small town is getting a donut shop that opens next month. It's name is Donuts. Original, I know.
Now I want a donut. I guess even talking about delicious food, like donuts, can be a trigger. Sorry if I did that to anyone else!2 -

Food is love in my family, too. My mom is constantly baking sweets and sending them to our house. Luckily, I have a husband I can pawn most of them off on. And, when he doesn't want them, I can take them to work. But, every single week there is some sweet in our house from my mom, and it is okay because this is how she shows love.4 -
Hi pals. Gearing up for weigh in tomorrow. Definitely struggled with some binges at the top of this week so not sure where I will land.
I saw a weight management specialist last week and she and I are discussing potential medications to help my binge-eating next friday, 7/28. I struggled with the idea initially of taking medication to address my weight/issues, because I guess we generally think of being overweight as something you can just will yourself out of. Why can't I just use MFP and track things and there goes the weight? Well, after 9+ years of trying to do just that, maybe it's time for me to turn to something else. Obviously any of these medications are not miracles, I still have to eat better and exercise for it to do anything for me, but worth having the conversation. One of the options she mentioned apparently was originally developed for ADHD, which is pretty intriguing for me since I have lots of signs of ADHD. 2 birds 1 stone?
I would say I turned a corner emotionally last night when it occurred to me that the intense night foot pain I experienced this April for about 5 days straight, and occasionally have had again on a more minor level the last few weeks, are most likely early signs of peripheral neuropathy, which is associated with diabetes/pre-diabetes. A shocking connection and a big jolt to me. The other shoe has dropped. I cannot keep going the way I have been. so, thought I would share this. If any of you have experience with binge-eating medications or weight loss medications, I would love to hear about it. [side effects also sound pretty crappy for some of them, so that's blehh].5 -
@micki48 definitely not krispy kreme lol. I have to say, I have been addicted to publix donuts (crazy I know) and they are literally right next to my work. Otherwise, I love duck donuts and granny's donuts. Again, local chain places that are amazing. Duck donuts makes the donut right in front of you. It's a cake donut with any topping you want served hot and fresh everytime. I like the smore one that has chocolate icing, graham cracker crumbs and marshmallow drizzle 🤤3

I have COVID.
Again.
For the third time....
ARGGGGG8 -
@ashleycarole86 oh no! I just had it like 3 or 4 weeks ago, also my THIRD time. this one was actually the worst of them all I think, because my cough was soooo bad. I couldn't sleep for 2-3 days because I literally could not angle my body at all to lie down. Feel better! Take care of yourself2
-
Oh dear! COVID again is such a bummer - poor you @ashleycarole86 and @Kali225 from just a few weeks ago. I keep feeling like it is gone. It is not... and @Kali225 the medication route sounds interesting and a bit scary. I hope you get some good info from the group here, or elsewhere. It is true that willpower is very finite, and cannot carry through very effectively. You need the emotional side, the physical side, all the elements together, and that is hard to do. It will be interesting to hear how your discoveries go.
I had a fabulous trail ride this morning before driving down to Massachusetts. At one point, though, there was a muddy patch that Jasper did not want to go through. He kept stepping to the side to try to go around it (smart) but it turned out that it was much deeper there (oops). He actually went down on his belly which prevented his legs from sinking in more (smart) and then managed to get himself up and out of there without me having to get off (genius!). After that he was more willing to let me help choose the best path through the wet parts! It has rained so much, there were quite a few.

While it looks a small loss between last Friday and today, my average weight between last week and this week was a loss of around 0.8 lbs., so really good to see! One step at a time. 😁
Overall non-scale positives: I am starting to feel more energized and less stressed because I am moving more with workouts and walks with my pup. Waking up at 5:30 is also getting easier, and I love taking the time in the morning to drink my coffee before I work out. It feels great knowing I can do a few things for myself before work begins.
Update on the roof: My homeowners insurance has an adjuster and roofer coming today to take a look at the damage, so we’ll probably know soon if they will cover the roof. Another roofer is also coming today to install a tarp so that we don’t experience water damage while we’re gone. If the insurance company will not pay for the roof, we’ve actually consulted with a solar power company, and they will refinance the new roof as part of the solar panel installations, and the monthly costs are very doable for us, so we’ll be switching to solar energy soon!
I need to do laundry, clean, and pack for vacation today, all while I have the insurance stuff and work to deal with today. It’ll be very busy so getting my workout in this morning is a non-negotiable since I won’t have time later.
@jugar - I will have to take a pass for next Friday’s weigh-in since the vacation home I’ll be at does not have a scale.
Have a great day everyone!!5 -

Not surprised, given how the week started. I am flying to Chicago today (if these thunderstorms will move along, my flight has already been delayed twice, ugh) for a family wedding over the weekend so that may also set me back in calories - but I'm going to marinate on some good meal ideas for when I am back home on Sunday.4 -

Tiny squeak of a loss!
@ashleycarole86 that sucks for Covid, again!! Rest and water might not be what you had planned, but hopefully symptoms pass soon and you can get back to your energetic self.
@wishfuljune You are a machine getting it all done and sticking with your workout goals. Well done!
@Kali225 I just received my official diagnosis of ADHD last week at age 42. It's crazy how much our understanding of this condition has changed in recent years and it's revealed that often women were overlooked as children since we weren't bouncing off the walls like some of the little boys were. We tended to be more of the inattentive type and our report cards from teachers had comments more about "she should pay a bit more attention" or "talks too much". The online surveys and diagnostic tools give a pretty good indication if the symptoms you're experiencing are affecting your life to the extent that intervention would be a good thing. Even after getting a diagnosis people will still gaslight themselves and think they tricked the psychologist or are actually just "lazy" after all and won't even be ready to accept that they way their brain functions and the actions and emotions they have are not their "fault". Often anxiety and depression are what we get treated for instead since the feelings of failure, rejection sensitivity, staying organized and being unable to plod through boring work have made our adult lives much harder than lots of our peers. Accepting that you're part of the 5% of the population who's neurodivergent can come with a lot of inner peace and forgiveness and a lot of the depression and anxiety goes away once you realize the cause of your struggles isn't your fault and that there are other medications and tools available to help you succeed. The acceptance phase unfortunately can be quickly followed by a lot of what-ifs around who you could have been or what you could have achieved if only you'd known sooner and could have gotten help and learned strategies to succeed in a society that has expectations created by people who don't function as you do. The medication I'm currently trialing is one known for helping with binge-eating and I have definitely noticed an appetite suppression while on it. If you want to reach out to me directly I'm more than willing to share what I've learned and experienced so far on this journey. There are SO MANY podcasts and articles and new research being done especially focusing on women, our experiences and interactions with our horomone cycles as we've been underdiagnosed for decades.

@PlaneMonkey It's great that you got a diagnosis, even if it took way too long! My report cards were always great with the exception of one note, "needs to work on self-management skills." I would get bored and distract everyone around me. I had one teacher suggest that it could be ADD, but my parents didn't want me to be on the medications they thought were being prescribed too freely at that time. So, I never got a diagnosis, and at this point in life, I have enough strategies to stay organized well enough.
@Kali225 I think it is great that you are getting help, especially if this is hindering your life in any way!
@ashleycarole86 Rest up and beat COVID again!
@wishfuljune It sucks that the roof leak happened just before vacation. But, great job on getting it taken care of AND being committed to yourself by working out when you know you have time!
4 -
@ashleycarole86 I'm sorry to hear you have covid again! We are definitely seeing an uptick of it here in NC.
@wishfuljune I hope you can get the roof squared away and relax on your vacation!
I have had a busy week. I had 2 dinner work meetings and while I tried to stay within calories, I didn't meet my steps those 2 days. I'm hoping I can get out for a walk after dinner before the sun sets. My car said 96 when I was leaving work and it's still 86 right now.3 -
Hey all. Well I worked yesterday and today from home with my COVID.. I really should have logged off earlier than I did but I had lots to get done and the stress wasn't going to help. In any event, the weekend is here, the wedding we were supposed to be driving to is no longer on the books for us, and rest is in order.
I am going to also try to prioritize working on some of the things I've been talking about in therapy (accepting uncertainty, strategies to expand my window of tolerance). I have some reading and stuff to do and I was going to be so busy that I don't even feel like I have time to think so the forced slowness isn't a bad thing from that perspective. I am hoping when I really do some work on me it will stop my tendencies to binge.
Have a good weekend all and thanks for the well wishes5 -
Hoping that everyone is feeling well and taking good care of yourselves - the insights into work, the brain, how we work through things, and how to share with each other are all beautiful, as usual. Thank you all for the willingness to open the doors
I had a sweet visit with my dad today. He was feeling good, and able to understand and participate in conversation better than on many days. We sat outside in the small enclosed garden area at the care home where he lives, and just talked about all kinds of things. Sang silly songs. He thought it was cool that our hands and wedding rings look alike. He asked if my horse can galop, and loved that my kids are at the stage in their careers where they get to supervise other people. Sure he asked the same questions a few times, and repeated the same things, observed that there was water squishing out of the cushion I was sitting on many times! It had rained earlier, and someone had flipped all the cushions to the dry side, but there was still water on the underneath. He enjoyed that, somehow I'll go back tomorrow and Sunday morning - it is nice just to pass the time together.
Saturday folks, it is time! And a few remaining weigh-ins due from pre-Saturday:
