There is a woman I follow on IG LEAHHOPEHEALTH. She has lost over 200 pounds and is amazing. In her post today, she wrote this. It really struck me.
She went on to say choosing to be consistent was hard but made her life so much larger as she got smaller.6 -
Wow @micki48 that is a good one. I have heard the "choose your hard" line a lot - but her reasons and examples are beautiful. And that her life got larger as she got smaller. Thanks for posting that!
Thursday is happening! Looking forward to numbers from:

hello hello, it's 11:46pm and I had 6 pages of posts to catch up on!
I had a great time in Maine this past weekend - I had never been before and it didn't disappoint! The slopes were pretty crowded at Sunday River, and I am more of small-mountain girl so not used to huge lines for the chairlifts, but I learned my lesson Saturday morning and got to a less crowded, more-my speed part of the mountain for the afternoon + Sunday morning. Driving home was exhausting and I did absolutely no meal prep or grocery shopping this week. Doesn't help that work is at the height of busy, so I am not optimistic about a green weigh in this week but that happens. I am going skiing again this weekend with friends and friends of friends, at Okemo in Vermont - never been there either but always heard good things about this resort!
Can't believe tomorrow is February!! what!
@wishfuljune I hope I am remembering correctly that you got a promotion at work - congrats! that is awesome.
@jugar and @EvMakesChanges hope dad is still on the improve!
@micki48 and @EvMakesChanges love these quotes! gotta remember the rear-view mirror one... I am definitely guilty of living in the past/wallowing over mistakes/trying to plan for the future. gotta be in the present sometimes too!!
and welcome to @ChelleChelle1031 !5 -
@Kali225 Okemo is where my wife, Sarah works as a cook! She’s usually in The Base lodge. She’s used to making veggie-eggwhite omelettes for me and makes many things to order. I hope you’ll go meet her. She’s there 7-2:30. Have a great time!5

Good morning, I've had a busy past couple of days. Things are going well here, I am excited for a new month, it means we are closer to spring...
I have had some odd stuff going on, when they did a ct scan on my lumbar spine in Nov, they noticed some calcifications in my pancreas, so I went to a specialist, and had a mrcp done, and they found some small cysts, I still haven't heard from the dr about those results, but when I initially saw him, he said if they see something, he would just add the endoscopy ultrasound to be done at the same time as my colonoscopy. He doesn't seem to think it is a big deal, so I am going with that. The fortunate part is since it was caught incidentally, if it is something, it should be early enough to be fixed.
It is very hard not to look stuff like that up and scare yourself to death, but I'll be honest the older I've gotten the more I am like, well, it is what it is, lets figure it out. I'm telling you all because I don't want to tell anyone else, and have them worry until I know everything, but I had to tell someone!
I have 3 months till Ireland, and I am very excited about that. We are going to REI this weekend, so I can find some throw on over pants, rain pants. I think I want the ones that zip all the way up ones, but I am not sure.
Okay, done rambling, have a wonderful day !

@Kali225 I'm glad you had a good time at the mountains! Great exercise!
@Gidgitgoescrzy I hope nothing serious is going on with your pancreas! I've had the endoscopic ultrasound with a pancreas biopsy which isn't bad since they give you good drugs during the procedure.
So, my mfp app is now working if I turn off the wifi. I'm in FL at a rental house, so that may be the issue.
We are going to epcot today. So I hope many steps and hopefully not eat too much haha.6 -

Well, I kind of saw this coming. It is my TOM which doesn't help, but what also doesn't help are the poor choices I've made the last week or two due to stress. Turning it around again.
Wednesday, January 31st - 5,818 steps, 40 minutes of spin - I really should pay more attention to my step counts at the end of the day. I could have easily walked another 182 steps.
Happy Friday Eve and happy February! It's unreal that we're already through January, but February is promising to be a good month. It is my husband's birth month AND we get our house this month!6 -
Happy Friday Eve for real! @MaddawgMadsen and all you other hard-working folks - getting ready for Friday is for real!
I actually worked a full day today too, so I'm feeling cool and with it. My investigation report is due the 14th and it is going to be a lot of work to put it all together. I'll be glad when it is done, but the whole thing has been a good challenge. You need those when you're retired! Luckily, I finished off the day with a good snowshoeing session. Not super long, but it was lovely up in the woods.
I have been thinking about @micki48 's post on doing the hard things, sticking to the choices, and finding ways to make our goals into steps we can follow. I read a "tough love" piece about moderation that goes far into the tough. It is talking about the "I deserve a treat" voice which leaves us feeling shameful and regretful about overindulging versus the "let's stick with the healthy plan" voice that leaves us full of quiet pride and no regrets. Both those voices are trying to take care of us. Even the habit of overeating is based on our brains trying to get what it thinks is the best stuff - but the real feeling good and the real best stuff are something else. In any case, even though the article is a bit too harsh, it asks some good questions. Check it out if you like -
https://danaleighlyons.substack.com/p/everything-in-moderation-doesnt-work
It's a high wire act, all this getting healthy thing, eh?4 -
@jugar I found that article interesting. Moderation is settling for mediocrity. I know that article focused on drinking alcohol, and I know that in this journey for me my trouble is sweets. However I feel like personally and in articles I have read, that if I restrict myself from the sweets, then I crave and will binge them later. I do the same thing the author did before and limit my time on social media, and I definitely don't go on as much as I used to. I will most likely stop completely, but it's also how I keep in touch with some of my family.
We had a great time in epcot today! I got over 17,000 steps, but we did eat at a buffet in Germany 🙈 Here are a few pics below.4 -
@lauren_989 looks like fun!! sounds like you got enough steps to handle a buffet..
@EvMakesChanges how fun! I will definitely try to pop into the lodge and find Sarah!
Today was a good mix of house chores (laundry and vacuuming), work, and a walk to end the day - but eating was still not good. I am going to try to shop tomorrow for some breakfast basics and the makings for a nice sandwich to bring to the slopes. I have to be more prepared for Sundays that include travel if I want to keep snowboarding this season - can't let that good weekend movement and fun activity totally trump the very important prep for the week I do on Sundays.
I am wiped out. night night3 -

My dog, Barney, has had seizures each night for the last 3 nights. I hate this is happening to him. He won't take his meds. They are not a guarantee anyway. Yes I have tried all the tricks. And won't force him twice a day. He is a rescue dog and gets very upset if I try. I like my fingers. Going to switch his food and hope for the best. He is looking better now so we are off to bed.
Thanks for all the inspirational posts and insights into your lifes.
I did get in 3 FitOn workouts before dinner.4 -
Yesterday was a good day, food was good, I even logged it! I did some exercise, I did hiit, I normally shy away from that because I feel like I can't always do the exercise, but I decided that doesn't matter, as long as I am trying. It's not that I can't do it, it's that you only do it for 50 seconds, and sometimes it takes me that long to figure it out. LOL - but as long as I am moving right? Maybe it will help my coordination. I have to really work on getting myself a schedule, a schedule that works with my body and doesn't stress it out.
Looks like the weather should be decent this weekend, and there is no football, so I think I will convince the husband to go on a hike.
@zumbaforever, I am sorry to hear about Barney. One of my dogs won't take pills either, so I help him, luckily he doesn't get too upset when I do it.
As for the everything in moderation and doing the hard stuff, I have found that the intermittent fasting is working well for me, for me it forces moderation, but it isn't hard. I still eat sweets, but since I stop eating at 6pm, I have found I don't really have time to binge on them, but if I do it's not very often, and it's within my time frame, so it's okay.. I feel like I am finally in the right mind frame to do this for myself at least with the food part, the exercise part is still a bit tough, but I am getting there.
Have a wonderful weekend team

my Thursday weigh in coming in late.

@jugar @lauren_989 Personally I do think this concept is pretty accurate:
https://gretchenrubin.com/articles/abstainer-vs-moderator/
You’re a moderator if you…
– find that occasional indulgence heightens your pleasure–and strengthens your resolve
– get panicky at the thought of “never” getting or doing something
You’re an abstainer if you…
– have trouble stopping something once you’ve started
– aren’t tempted by things that you’ve decided are off-limits
On another note, we have made it to Toronto. Today we drive north to Haliburton where Brad's mom lives, with a stop with an old family friend of Brad's for lunch.5 -
Friday Weigh-In

0.2 loss but I'll take it!! Work is absolutely out of control but my friend is coming around 5pm to carpool to VT so the end is in sight!!6 -
@ashleycarole86 I agree with that article! It's interesting how I can be both a moderator and abstainer. Some foods I need to abstain or I will keep eating (yasso bars, chips). But some foods I need to eat once in a while or I will binge later (chocolate in general/sweets).
I had a great day today. Stayed within my calories and walked/jogged 5k! Hung outside by the pool and hot tub, plus enjoyed some time in each. Very relaxing day!5 -

I finally broke my body’s weight barrier of 185+ and plan to keep exercising and plan/cook protein for meals in advance along with some veggies so only fresh greens will need to be added to make lunches or dinners. Time for bed. See you on the next thread!5 -
@Gidgitgoescrazy Thank you for the kind words. So far tonight I’ve has been good.
I struggle just the opposite. Exercise is consistent. My eating habits need improvement.

After my last weigh-in, my weekend was full of eating out and not always making the healthiest choices. I am starting to track my weekly caloric intake to see if I am in a deficit overall. We’ll see how this new logging and tracking progress works for me.4 -
