Thanks @shanaber . I'm glad you like your walking pad. Sometimes I do the same thing - walk a bit more just to finish a show. I always feel a bit conflicted when I watch a food show while exercising. I hope the lavender thrives in it's new environment. Sounds like you are doing great with your activities. I hope you are able to do something fun while you are out and about today.

    Good morning!

@shanaber We did like Home Chef and never had an issue with spoilage. If it got delayed and it was summer and I didn't trust it...I would just send them a message in the app and they refunded my money no questions asked.

I guess it has been about 2 weeks!

DH and I made our bootlegger run to Las Vegas to buy the generators. They are now safely tucked away in our garage. It was a "sign" because the evening after I ordered them, the power was shut off for wind LOL. We have my Mom's Yeti battery that PG&E had to give her when they started this mess to run her oxygen so we just keep a charge on that and it will run a small appliance or charge phones.

I got all my medical appts scheduled and half done. After 2 months of fighting with a rude receptionist for Derm, she finally got my authorization and then told me they were scheduling out 5 months. I did some googling and found another one and they were so nice and friendly and seemed to have good reviews. I scheduled my dental appt and it is in March 2025  It is where DH goes for periodontal issues and are really good. She said 2 of their techs are on maternity leave and they haven't been able to get a temp yet. I am not worried, I don't have issues...but if I am paying for the insurance..might as well spend it LOL. Had my women's health appt and unfortunately those came back as abnormal so I have to have another colposcopy. Dr says I am getting to the age where things can start changing because enough time has passed. He is 100% not concerned but he did say it is something I am going to have to stay on top of. In 2020 my abnormalities (CIN) had fully regressed, I don't know if it was b/c I was in the best health of my life or just a coincidence. He also said I am at the age for mammograms .... so add that to my list LOL.

I am still tracking calories and before we went on our bootleg run, MFP said I had lost 3.5 lbs in June....after the run (we ate out a lot) it is now saying I only lost 2 lbs in June. I thought there might be some water weight from the weekend but it has not gone away all week. DH wants to sign up for "Factor" the premade meal delivery. There is nothing healthy to eat on base or around it and DH wants to take his lunches. We tried the whole make your lunch thing, but it just was never consistent. Factor is so expensive though! The more you order the cheaper it gets. I did it when I was still active duty and we ordered the bulk batch (18) and then you can easily skip weeks...but we then had to freeze them which you are not supposed to do and when you reheated them, they were so watery. We are going to start after the 4th.

Property / Mom's stuff: Nothing, Nada, Zip, Zilch :rage:

So I got a couple things off my whiteboard - and added a few things LOL. It is getting to the point that the stuff on there is the easily ignored stuff...like organizing paperwork from the property split.

Best get to it! Looks like it might be my best reselling month this year so far!

Glad you got your generators @CMorning99 . It is amazing how long some appointments are taking these days. But, once you get established with the practice, it should be easier.
Sorry you have to have a colposcopy. I hope it comes back okay. BTW, I was a bit put off the first time my doctor said, "Well, at your age?" They should outlaw that phrase.
Great job on the weight loss, even if you gained a bit back. You now know how to do it and know it will work if you stick with it. Also glad that your husband is also trying to get in better shape and lose some weight. That has to make it easier.
Yeah for getting things off of your whiteboard. That is the problem with to-do lists - you take one thing off and add two to it. At least you know there is always something to do.
Glad your reselling is doing so good this month.

I had my annual cardiac follow-up yesterday. He said everything sounded and looked good. I haven't had a heart ultrasound in 4 years, so he is going to schedule one for me. It is to check the bicuspid valve to make sure it is still working as it should. He said it sounds like it is, but he wand to make sure. I asked about getting off of some of my high BP meds - I take 3. He gave me permission to experiment, but is pretty confident that when I do, my BP will go up and I'll have to start taking it again. I hope he is wrong. I'm going to start with the one that he gave me last, I think. Metroprolol. The reason he gave it to me was that my HR was running high just sitting around in the evening and it lowers your HR. Lately, my HR has been fine (could be the RX), with my resting HR running in the upper 40s. We shall see. I haven't started the experiment yet. I may wait until August because I am going to FL in a couple of weeks and don't want to have to worry about checking my BP every day.

Hi All! It has been so quiet over here - almost a month since @quilteryoyo's last post.

@CMorning99 and @swenson19d - hope you are doing well!
@CMorning99 - have you had your tests? I have been having mammograms for years now because of the prevalence of breast cancer in my mom's family. I always worried about it so it is kind of ironic that I am diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Hope all your results come back normal.

@quilteryoyo - enjoy your visit with all your family and those adorable great grand babies!

I had a really tough time after my last chemo so I was pretty disappointed when my tumor marker set came back with a large increase. It is never a good sign when you go to the doctor's office and they tell you that you were the topic of conversation for the entire oncology team the day before. They sent me for a CT right away along with a nuclear bone scan to make sure it hadn't spread into my bones.
We saw the oncologist last Monday. The CT showed the tumors have grown a little bit but the nuclear bone scan came back completely normal (yea!). Between the tumor growth and increase in the markers they canceled my chemo going forward. They have a trial I am eligible for but I am too anemic so they will retest at the end of this week. If I can't do the trial then they will start me on Keytruda. It is an immunotherapy drug used sucessfully for several other types of cancer but was just recently approved for PC. In the mean time I am feeling pretty good other than the neuropathy. I am hoping it settles down over the next few days as it makes typing here difficult as well as walking.
I did get the ok to go to the Hollywood Bowl this year and our first concert was last night. Because of the high rate of covid here we all wore our masks other than when we were eating but we ate outside and were quite a ways from everyone else. We also got handicap parking so I didn't have to walk all the way up and down the hill. Leaving in the crowd though I was buffeted by people and their backpacks and almost fell a couple of times.

I'm sorry you had such a hard time with the chemo and it didn't seem to help. Glad that it hasn't spread to your bones. That's fantastic news. I hope the next step, whatever it turns out to be, helps and doesn't have all the side affects. I am of the mind that immunotherapy is going to be the cure for all cancer at some point...once they get it figured out. I do hope the neuropathy gets better soon. I'm glad you are feeling better otherwise and love that you are able to be as active as you are!

I am having a good time in FL. I thought I was going to get to see some of the great grands today, but that didn't happen. Oh well. I did get to see them all yesterday, but with so many people around for the reunion, I didn't get to spend much time with them. Sometimes I wish I lived closer, but I've lived in FL for 4 years, and that was enough for me. I have thought about maybe renting a house for a month in the winter and coming down so I could see them a little more, but that probably won't happen anytime soon. I'm happy for the time I do get with them all.

    Hi Folks!

I kept checking back and it was so quiet...happy to hear from everyone!

@shanaber I am glad you are feeling good! Sorry to hear about your tumors but I agree with quilteryoyo...I hear such good things about immunotherapy. My mom had stem cell injections for her shoulder and she swore they were working...unfortunately the Dr moved to Canada because of all the crap talking about the practice in the US (this was probably 15 years ago).

I haven't had my appointments yet. Last year I started in late spring and maybe it is less busy? They seemed to get me in within 2 weeks for everything. This time I have to wait 6 weeks for my colposcopy and 8 weeks for a mammogram. I was able to get into the new Derm right away though and got sent off with a clean bill of health with a few "promise me you will watch these few".

We have been busy. We have had a parade of people visiting and we took a trip down to LA to visit the museums of our childhood. It was exhausting and we are good for another 25 years LOL. A lot of DHs coworkers are traveling for the summer so we have had a steady line of critters stay with us, it has been nice to love up on them and then send them home LOL.

DH and I started our Factor deliveries this week. They are pricy, right now we are in there 50% promo so that is nice...we will see if our opinions change when we pay full price. The food is good but they are calorie dense for the portions. They could have added more veggies for some bulk for sure.

I also started with Trainwell. It is an online personal trainer...not AI, actual person who sends me video messages and plans my workouts for the week. I am only on week 2 and was humbled at how sore I was just from bodyweight squats LOL. This week it felt better.

I seem to be holding my weight after my little loss in June, only gained about half of back with all the dinners out and traveling. I am slowly getting back into a routine this week as things slow down. I feel like the abnormal pap was a bit of a wakeup call for me, I have had active high risk HPV for 10+ years and that is the likely cause for the cell dysplasia. I did a lot of reading and unfortunately there is nothing you can to do make HPV go away if your body doesn't do it on it's own...but you can do some things to lessen the effects of it. I finally bought a pill sorter and started taking the 3g of tumeric a day, the RA doc had suggested it 2 years ago for my hand pain and I was lazy. I also bought some Turkey Tail as that has some good (albeit small) medical reviews for immunity and inflammation. Then added in the usual vitamin, D3 and iron. Trying to be consistent. Like I mentioned in my last post, I was able to reverse it all before. Also really working on my hydration...I am so bad about it.

Hopefully the heat isn't bad for everyone and the summer is fun!

It's great to hear from you @CMorning99 . Sounds like you have had a busy summer so far. Wish you lived near me so you could enjoy Tippy when I go on vacation. LOL Glad you have been able to maintain your loss for a couple of months. I bet with your new workout routine that you will see another drop. The online personal trainer sounds interesting. I hope all of your appointments turn out well and you're able to reverse all of the bad things again.

I spent the last week in FL for a family reunion. I didn't feel like I ate that much, but gained 3 pounds. I am hoping at least a bit of that is water weight. LOL

I am going to wait until Monday to go back to the gym. I just don't have it in me to get up and go tomorrow. I do think that is helping, so I just need to get back to being consistent.

Hope everyone is having a good summer!

All is well here on the Central Coast!

We are probably within a couple months of being able to sell half of my mom's property, unfortunately it is too late in the season to start building before the rains come. Maybe start in Apr?

I have been working with the online personal trainer and it has been fine. The workouts are manageable and I haven't missed one yet. They don't spark joy in my life though LOL. I have been maintaining my weight and that is a bit disappointing, but I also stopped counting calories...and we all know how they creep in.

I had all my secondary biopsies last week and waiting for the results. The doctor said the areas look "concerning" so I will most likely need surgery again to remove part of my cervix. I don't care, I told him to be aggressive, I am not playing around.

I feel like the last month has just been a lot of hurry up and wait on a lot of fronts. I have been super tired again so not pushing myself. Reselling is definitely feeling the summer slump and sometimes I wonder if it is even worth working from Jul - Sep LOL. But I am still making enough to pay cash for all the little projects we need like replace the camper shell on mom's truck, get the generators...it might take me a couples months to pay off moving the fences to the new property lines...I have googled and researched and for the life of me I cannot figure out why it is so damn expensive?! $6000 for 325ft of fence and I supply most of the wire. Sheesh.

My other stress is we now seem to have rats on the property. We have always had tiny field mice but we now have honking RATS! They have decided the travel trailer is their home and I cleaned up a nest (family included) in the closet of the trailer. I sprayed and put in bait and noise makers and repellent and they had chewed new holes in the barrier under the trailer within a week. We went out again and I repatched everything and bought stronger repellent and put out more bait...we will see what happens now. I feel like it is a war we cannot win ... arghhh!

Well, I have a list of to do's still so I best get to it.

Have a great "pre fall!" LOL

Thanks for checking in @CMorning99 . It sounds like you are making a little progress on some fronts. Do you have the plans for the house finalized?

I'm glad you are keeping up with the personal trainer, even if he isn't bringing you joy. LOL My trainer is trying to get me to concentrate on little victories and not worry so much about my weight right now. It's easy for him to say. It's hard for me to do. I'm still weighing every day and basically am hanging within 4 pounds of the same weight. I guess I should be happy since this month has been full of eating out celebrating birthdays....mine on the 4th and mom's on the 15th.

I think I missed where you were having biopsies. I'm glad you are getting that taken care of and agree with you....be aggressive and make sure you get rid of it all.

I'm glad your reselling is doing well enough to pay for all those projects. I just think everything is expensive in CA! I can't imagine having that cost of living.

I used to have musophobia. I know it stems from seeing a news report when I was young about a rat eating a baby in it's crib in NYC. I have gotten a little bit better as far as mice go, but huge rats is just a big no. I hope you can figure out how to get rid of them and keep them from damaging your stuff. You were in the AF. You can win this war!

I hope you have a great pre-fall too and enjoy your labor day weekend. Any plans? I don't really have any. Probably just the same old every day stuff.

Hi all. I have not been around for a few years but stayed close to shanaber. I just read that Shana passed away on Sept 1. I emailed with her a lot over the years and she was such a fighter. Heartbroken for her family. Hope you all are doing okay. I’ve not had time to be on MFP but doing good.

@ddmom0811 Thanks so much for letting us know. That makes me so sad. She was such a fighter. I'm glad you stayed in touch with her over the years. I'm heartbroken too. Glad you are doing well. I've wondered about you too.

I have been avoiding logging in because I felt something was wrong and didn't want to know.

@shanaber You are missed and I will cherish your comments and responses over the years.

Does anyone have a link to her obituary?

I can't find one, but here is what her daughter posted on FB: It is with a heavy heart that I announce the death of my mom, Shana Bereznay, on Sunday September 1st. For the last year and a half, she battled pancreatic cancer with a tenacity that astounded her care team. I remember her calling me after her first consult with an oncologist. He had suggested, due to her age, that she try a less aggressive chemo. She found a new oncologist the very next day. Of course, for those of us who knew my mom, her all-in approach was no surprise. It is how she has always lived her life - whether it be diving right in to CMG with my dad, co-leading my very OC girl scout troop, finding running later in life and completing countless half marathons, or being the most dedicated dog mom to Hobbes. She did nothing half heartedly. In her final months, my mom continued to fight. She researched and advocated to be considered for a clinical trial. Delighted by the Kamala nomination she spent hours writing postcards to folks in swing states encouraging them to vote. And lastly, she fought hard to hang on as long as possible to spend as much time as possible with us. It wasn’t enough time. It never could have been. She had so many things she wanted to do. So much life left she wanted to live. I cannot believe she is gone. So friends, as cliche as it may be: go on that trip you’ve been putting off, visit that friend, do that thing you’ve been wanting to do. Oh, and vote in November. Definitely vote.
I also want to take a moment to thank my dad, Frank Bereznay. He was my mom’s main care giver on this journey and I was blown away by his understated dedication to her. He attended every appointment, drove her here and there and everywhere, and made it his mission to always make my mom feel special and so loved. 50 years together (47 years married) and this last year and a half had them looking like newly weds with my dad buying my mom roses after each chemo treatment and whisking her away on incredible getaways whenever possible. It was a treat to witness.

I've been so sad since I read that. I went to the Sept 2024 Runners forum and saw that they were running miles for her and want to do the same. I fell in Dec 2022 and hit my face - lost my 6 front top teeth. So I've lost my mojo for running. I haven't fallen any other time and I know exactly how I tripped but I'm just scared. But I miss running, so I thought I'd run a mile for Shana some day this week! Shana helped me so much. My mom also has pancreatic cancer, and brother colon cancer. Shana was so helpful as her surgery was 6 months before my moms. My mom is in remission, which I'm so thankful for, but I wish Shana was too.

Aww. Thanks @ddmom0811 for sharing what Shana's daughter posted on FB. I had so hoped when they found it early that she would be okay. She fought so hard! I'm so sorry to hear that your mom and brother both have cancer. So glad that your mom is in remission and hope it stays that way.

I had no idea that you had such a nasty fall. I can see how you would be scared to run again. It is nice that you are going to run a mile this week for Shana. Maybe you'll get your running mojo back. I hope you do.

If you want to, I know all of us in the running forum would love for you to let the family know (on FB) how much we loved Shana and miss her positive outlook and encouragement.

Thank you @ddmom0811 The post was lovely by her daughter.

I have successfully hit 60 days with my personal trainer! I haven't lost weight but I feel stronger and I am back up to running 5 min LOL. Long cry from my 5 hours but it starts with the same number LOL.

All is well here. Still waiting on the property split, we waited a whole month to get on the Board of Supervisors agenda and when they went to add us for next month, they realized we didn't even have to do it. Ugh. But that was our "last" thing! We are now waiting for the maps to make the rounds for signatures.

In fun news, DH found 2 kittens and fell in love immediately! They were a post on FB from a local rescue. So now we have a Tortie and a Void roaming the halls. They are about 15 weeks and were trapped around 8-9 weeks so they are a little spicy but are coming around quickly with lots of bribes.

But I guess that is about it, just moving through the days.

    Have a great fall!

@CMorning99 Great job sticking with the trainer for 60 days AND running 5 min. Every journey starts with a single step. You'll be back to longer runs soon! Hang in there. I'm glad the property split is finally happening. Maybe you'll get your house started soon! The kittens sound so cute. You'll have to post pictures so we can all ooooh and awww.

I have finally lost about 5 pounds, but seem to have hit another plateau. I'm at around 146. I'm hoping to lose another 10 pounds at least. We shall see. Going to the gym 3 times a week has helped, I think. At least it gets me up and going earlier than I would otherwise on those days.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

@quilteryoyo. I am sure that 5lbs is motivating to keep going! I don't know how you go to the gym, if I had to drive somewhere I wouldn't go LOL. It is funny I say that because "back in the day" I would drive 45 min just to run for 45 min on a trail LOL.

The property split is DONE! I paid the final recording fees on Monday and now we are waiting for the letter that the maps are recorded. That means we can now submit the house plans! Time actually works out pretty well, other than being 2 years late LOL. We can do the house plans back and forth during the rains and start to build first thing in spring. We still have to wait for Title to update to sell the back half, but that is fine.

I hit 81 days with my trainer today! I have graduated from 5lb weights to 15lb weights. I really thought I would see some sort of difference in how my clothes fit, but alas no go. Not even a pound gone. I have tried to track calories a few times but having trouble sticking to it again. It is obvious I am overeating though. But I am not gaining.

The Tortie and Void have been here a whole 2.5 weeks! The Tortie came around really quickly and she is happy to come and sit on your lap for as long as her kitten energy will allow her. The Void will let you pet her most of the time, usually after a short chase. She really doesn't like being held or on you...but happy to be near you. They have both perfected the sad kitten meow to get a treat out of us though LOL. DH is so happy.

Here is a picture. I have no idea how to do the "hidden" picture so it isn't huge.

@CMorning99 I'm not a cat person, but those babies are really cute. I'm glad the house plans is coming around and hope that you do get started building in the Spring. Be proud of yourself for sticking with your personal trainer so consistently. If you can do that, you can start working on your diet too..one day at a time. You can do this.

For those who don't know, I live in/near the area in TN and NC that was devastated by the hurricane and floods. Fortunately, the only thing I am dealing with is the lack of running water since Monday. The entire county, pretty much, is without water because the only pumping station was destroyed. It's a minor nuisance relative to what others are dealing with at the moment. They have gotten a temporary system set up, but not everyone has gotten water back yet, with a boil alert in affect. I am really impressed that it has only taken a week to get it going again, even if I'm not seeing the results yet.

I have lost a couple of more pounds since I last posted and loved hearing the trainer/owner of the gym I go to tell me he can tell that I am "changing." I have gotten up to 105 pounds deadlift and 55 pounds bench press.
  • CMorning99
    CMorning99 Posts: 924 Member
@quilteryoyo Oh no! I didn't know you lived in that area. Let me know if you need anything. I hope the next one goes way south of you.

Way to go on the bench press...I am up to 30lbs now...I must I must increase my bust....yeah would rather not LOL

Got the letter for the lot split today from Title...along with a rather large bill for 2 hours of work. We still don't have parcel numbers assigned so I am going to hold off on the sale, but we can start the permits for the house at least.

I am dealing with my first medical insurance stupidity. IDK how people do this and I think it is karma for all the times I rolled eyes at my mom for "just not getting it done". The doctors office billing person does not know how to bill for for labs associated with a well women's exam. The insurance covers the exam only...additional tests (like testing for HPV) while done during the exam have to be billed separately. Well evidently this Drs office has never been paid for these tests b/c the lady is incompetent...but the lab can't bill the insurance until they make a claim for the test. Since they can't bill insurance...they bill me. I have been going around and around for 3 months. The billing department seems to be behind Fort Knox and I keep getting told to tell the doctor to do it...Well...I have. So frustrating.

I am tracking calories...made it a whole day and a half. Stress and boredom are making it tough today for sure. Seems like no matter how much I work on and do...the clock does not move.

Going to weigh in tomorrow and see how I am doing!

    Stay safe!

Thanks @CMorning99 . I don't need anything. We got water back on Saturday, but are under a boil alert until they get back negative tests for bacteria that may have grown in the pipes while they were empty. But, at least we can take a shower and don't have to manually fill the commode from a bucket. I was very impressed that they got water up and running in just 5 days when the pumping station was totally destroyed.

I'm glad things for your house are moving along nicely.

So sorry you are having issues with insurance. I don't really understand the issue, but the lab billing department should be able to bill the insurance directly if they did the test. That's what they do here. Can you make the claim to Tricare yourself? I have found that the people who administer Tricare are pretty helpful when something happens like this - at least they are in my area. Maybe give them a call? I know how frustrating it can be when you just keep getting the same answer and it isn't working. I hope you get it worked out and don't have to pay out of pocket.

Hang in there with counting calories. You can do this. I hope you find that you have lost some weight tomorrow morning! If not, don't let it side track you. Keep at it.

Just checking in on anyone still around :)

All is well in sunny California. The usual earthquakes and fires are keeping us busy!

The Girls are doing great and are so cute. It is so great to have them in the house.

@quilteryoyo. I am still working on that insurance issue LOL. The issue turned out to be the hospital did not bill the insurance for the "test collection" so the lab could not bill Tricare because there was no record of the test being done. The billing department at the hospital is manned by a bunch of sour pusses but I was told yesterday that the claim was being processed so hopefully it goes through...sucks it is taking 45 days for Tricare to process a claim.

I hit 119 days today with my personal trainer. I am defiitnly feeling stronger! I am not loosing weight. I fell of the calorie counting and TBH it was such a relief to just eat and not think/worry. I guess I am not quite mentally ready to tackle it yet.

Hope everyone is having a fun fall!

Thanks for checking in @CMorning99 . Insurance can be such a hassle. I'm glad that it seems to be heading in the right direction. When I turned 65 a couple of months ago, I had some issues when I switched to Medicare and TFL. I had told my primary care about the changes, but they didn't pass it along to the lab people, so the wrong people were billed. I don't know why they wouldn't just let everyone know when a change is made since I would normally have no direct contact with the lab billing. And, even though my cardiologist was told of the change, they tried to bill Tricare Standard, so had to deal with that too. It seems there is always something.

I'm glad to see that you are sticking with your personal trainer and feeling stronger. Even if you are staying the same weight, you should be losing some inches with the fat turning into muscle. I am really glad that I started going to the gym in April. It really has made a big difference for me.

I am now down to 141.2 pounds - two days in a row. Here is a snap-shot of my daily weight over the last 3 months. I'm really happy with the way it is going. I would love to lose about 5 more pounds and stay there, but will be happy to stay where I am.

You are doing great. I hope the house is moving along too.
