    K - Kabocha Squash

    Kabocha

(/kəˈboʊtʃə/; from Japanese カボチャ, 南瓜) is a type of winter squash, a Japanese variety of the species Cucurbita maxima. It is also called kabocha squash or Japanese pumpkin[1]

in North America. In Japan, "kabocha" may refer to either this squash, to the Western pumpkin, or indeed to other squashes.

In Australia, "Japanese pumpkin" is a synonym of Kent pumpkin, a variety of winter squash.

K - Susan do you have these where you live?

    Kakadu Plum

Kakadu plum, also called billygoat plum or gubinge, is a small green fruit native to Australia. It is known for its extremely high vitamin C content, making it one of the richest natural sources of this essential nutrient. Kakadu plums have a tart and slightly sweet flavor and are used in traditional Aboriginal cuisine. They are also used in skincare products due to their antioxidant properties.

I've seen them on ingradient lists for skin care products, Linda. Kakadu is in the Northern Territory, far from SE Qld where I live, so they aren't common here.

Judith did L so I will do M.

    M - Malanga

Malanga, also called yautia or cocoyam in English, is a starchy vegetable packed with nutrients. Malanga is popular in African, South American, and Caribbean cuisines. The malanga plant (Xanthosoma atrovirens or X. sagittifolium) has thick, fleshy leaves and mainly grows in tropical areas.

    S - Sorell

Sorrel is a leafy green plant, use alternately as an herb and a vegetable, with a distinctive sour, lemony flavor. It's from the knotweed family, or Polygonaceae, the same botanical family as buckwheat and rhubarb. It also goes by the name "dock."

Thank you Susan, I am familiar with Buckwheat and Rhubarb but hadn’t heard of Sorell or if I did I have forgotten about it. My grandma made the best Rhubarb Pies and Tarts and she often cooked it down in its own juices and we ate it just like that or spooned some over vanilla ice-cream, so yummy!

    T- Turnip

However, even though I named it Turnip as I was using letter T, our family called Turnip, Rutabaga’s

We had "sheep's sorell" that grow in our lawn in Ohio. I loved to eat it for the sour flavor.

X - Xinomavro is a grape variety native to Greece, particularly in the uplands of Naousa.
The name Xinomavro is a mixture between the terms Xino and Mavro, which indicates “sour” for Xino and “black” for Mavro. The name translates to ‘acid black’, indicative of the grape’s robust tannins and high acidity.

Xinomavro grapes are primarily used in winemaking, producing red wines that are known for their aging potential.

The high acidity of these grapes makes the wine suitable for pairing with rich, fatty foods, enhancing the culinary experience.

    J - Japanese Quince

With its beautiful red flowers in spring, this shrub, Chaenomeles japonica, thrives in rather difficult conditions. In rather deep shade a lot of the time, this shrub is not only beautiful. Like its neighbours – Mahonia japonica and Berberis Darwinii, this flowering quince also produces edible fruits.

    K - Kangaroo apple

Solanum aviculare, commonly known as the kangaroo apple or native bush tomato, is a shrub native to Australia and New Zealand. It belongs to the Solanaceae family, which also includes other well-known plants such as tomatoes, potatoes, and eggplants…Indigenous Australians have utilized kangaroo apple for generations. The fruits, when correctly ripened, can be eaten and are sometimes used to make jams and pies. However, caution is advised since unripe fruit and other parts of the plant can be toxic due to the presence of solanine, a glycoalkaloid which can cause nausea and other symptoms if consumed in large quantities. These are spectacular pictures Susan and Linda as you described your Fruits and Veggies. I needed to see beauty tonight after being attacked verbally by someone, anyway I won’t dwell on it but will let the tears flow which are cleansing and I will be ok later.

    M - Mangetout

"Mangetout" is a term for snow peas, a type of garden pea where the entire pod, including the peas inside, is edible. The name "mangetout" is French for "eat all," referring to the fact that the whole pod can be eaten. In the United States and Australia, they are commonly called snow peas.
