Should be 2 motivated teams with a pair of Yorkshiremen shouting at 'em from #9... Pity there isn't a Team Time Trial - we could really give 'em some grief

Silly is quite appropriate at the moment. Just contemplating the challenge ahead. I think others will beat me hands down on distance, but there are plenty of hills to pick from where I live. It will be interesting to see how I fair against others when comparing the climbs.

I'll definately not be in with a shout for any of the shirts TBH - I'm pretty sure that there are a couple of people who're trouncing me in June, and I don't have much opportunity to up my distance for July. As to the Green or KoM, well - i'm too old and slow (average of 23.2kph if I manage road miles only, or dragged down to 22.2kph if I include the off-road stuff!) for green, and - well - it's just not that hilly around here - my regular training loop is pretty much set up to take me up and down every decent sized hill within a 10 mile radius of my home, and I still only get maybe 420M of climb in a 50km ride. That barely registers as a ripple on the GPS!

And The Fast Men's Shirt... Again, I doubt I'll need to order one in 6XL (italian sizing, don'cha just love it! - that's a 48" chest according to Santini BTW!)

Don't forget though... according to the rules - BLACK SHORTS (Rule #14/#15 )

    Hi Big Yin,

I live here where every ride is a hilly ride. Count on me not to be fast but to put up quite a climb here or there. Just give me a number and tell me where i'm at!

    Ha

    TT :)

Just grab the list from katozdad's post ^^^ up there a couple of entries ago, and copy your name in against whichever number feels good for you... I'm concentrating on the mileage speed and altitude logging system at the moment, but I'll have race numbers to Issue by Friday Night (english time!)

OK - I'm in - the first ride I do will be on Sunday 1 July about 47 mils, followed by Monday 82 miles & Tuesday 77 miles; Rest Day; Thursday 76 miles; Friday 61 miles; Saturday 61 miles. First three days will be about 2000 feet elevation per day (Willamette River Valley in Central Oregon) followed by about 4000 feet of climbing each day as we run down the Coast of Southern Oregon. Won' be back on-line any earlier than Monday 9 July and maybe not until the 10th. Will try to post Garmin data although cadence meter may not be functional for this ride.

Are you intending to climb the hill behind your profile picture, Amiller? If so I give up now. There are no hills like that where I live.

That should give us a cracking start to the first week - I seem to be pretty much hitting 50km most rides on the roadbike at the moment, or 35km if i'm on the roadbike. My riding schedule normally runs to 3 days on, one day off - and I'm trying to time it so I start a 3-day run on the Saturday 30th. Thing is, even the longest day is "only" just over 140 miles - between 9 of us, that SHOULD be eminently do-able without having to all synchronise our calendars and revise our schedules too much.

I posted this earlier - but if possible I'd appreciate if people can post their rides in as close a format to the following

With a view to logging all this, what I'd propose is this... for a given ride, you'd post the details in this format (I've taken a few of my recent june rides as examples...)

    16/06/2012 - 37.85km - 2h17m16s - 409m - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/189489816
    17/06/2012 - 55.78km - 2h31m18s - 474m - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/189799150
    18/06/2012 - 90.65km - 3h36m59s - 320m - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/190328912
    19/06/2012 - 49.23km - 2h20m12s - 424m - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/190663418
    20/06/2012 - no ride
    21/06/2012 - no ride
    22/06/2012 - 36.24km - 2h05hm51s - 298m - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/191551618

I don't have any of the high tech garmin info to share...will that be a problem. I can post my distance and time for each ride.

It's not necessarily a problem, though the GPS tracking is partly there to ensure the rides are verifiable, in terms of distance, time and altitude. Cheapest way to get something like this if you have a smartphone (Android/iPhone) would be something like the Strava or Endomondo applications, which turn your phone into a gps tracker for the duration of the ride.

If there was an actual prize (other than bragging rights and the chance to have the "virtual" jersey in your gallery (complete with dossard numbers)) then I think we'd have to be strict and say from the outset that only tracked rides counted. As I'm neither cynical enough to worry that someone would cheat in a "fun" challenge nor actually in with a chance of getting any of the jerseys myself, for me it's immaterial - others may have stronger views either side of the argument...

Welcome Aboard - the more, the merrier - or at lease the more riders, the easier it is to hit the total km's

I forgot to ask early on; the total mileage per day is for all rides, or should we just submit our longest ride of the day?
  • TheBigYin
    TheBigYin Posts: 5,686 Member
Tom - I know your a riding animal, and sometimes do multiple rides - just put an entry in for each one, and my spreadsheet will do the rest...

Oh - and if the ride spans midnight as some of yours have, I'll book it as whichever day needs the mileage

I will be out of town on Saturday, but will be starting on Sunday with a long night ride. I will be using an app on my phone to track my miles. I will send you the link to the map with every post.

There's an Idea - i'll probably stick mine in the Strava Profile Picture as well as on here when the race starts. I keep playing with different ones at the moment - just to test how the different Shirts should look! At the moment it's the Plain old Team 1 Strip, with Dossard ready for the Prologue Time Trial.
