OK - I'm in - the first ride I do will be on Sunday 1 July about 47 mils, followed by Monday 82 miles & Tuesday 77 miles; Rest Day; Thursday 76 miles; Friday 61 miles; Saturday 61 miles. First three days will be about 2000 feet elevation per day (Willamette River Valley in Central Oregon) followed by about 4000 feet of climbing each day as we run down the Coast of Southern Oregon. Won' be back on-line any earlier than Monday 9 July and maybe not until the 10th. Will try to post Garmin data although cadence meter may not be functional for this ride.

Are you intending to climb the hill behind your profile picture, Amiller? If so I give up now. There are no hills like that where I live.

Thanks for the complement- not sure if I'll do it this year unlike last year (3 times) - different commitments on schedule this year but we'll see...... >)

    Safety pins "check"
hope you don't mind but i've changed the dossard ever so slightly ;-)

(Just bought a waterproof rucksack cover from wiggle in preparation as well!)

3M spray mount adhesive is better than safety pins...

Got my prologue ride in so not gone for big miles. Thought i was doing really well beating my PB to the res by nearly 10 mins, then i turned around and soon realised why... the wind must have been +20mph! then as soon as i started descending the hailstones arrived so i had to stop to put my storm coat on and hold the hood over my head with 1 hand while attempting to steady the bike with the other :-(

Well - That's team 1's Prologue Km's well and truly sorted - in the end I went out and did my usual training loop, more to finish June's mileage off than anything else. Ride was also greatly afflicted by the wind (sounds like my Grandad!) - blowing a nice steady 20kph with occasional gusts to 30-35 according to the weather station in my back yard. Currently getting stuck into a Chocolate Chip Muffin and a large mug of coffee, whilst watching the Eurosport coverage!

Incidentally - so far so good with the logging everyone - i've just dropped the figures for the first 5 rides into my spreadsheet, and it looks like things are making sense so far. And, in one of those wierd and spooky coincidences, the total distance for "P" day of the first 5 riders to declare (301,305,306,308 & 309) comes to 204.4km - which matches the total for the Prologue AND the first stage, almost to the metre! :noway:

So - has nobody one team #2 ridden yet ? I wasn't thinking of setting up 2 ride threads, purely because of the huge no. of sticky threads "overpowering" the group... I welcome everyones thoughts though, and if you want a second thread, we could go for one...

Way to hot. It was in the upper 90's when I stopped riding. So, I'm exhausted. I'm going to take the rest of the month off from riding; I'll be back in July.

No worries my friend, to be honest, the challenge is nothing without the people participating - I can photoshop up all the silly race numbers I want, but if people out there don't take up the challenge and get out and ride, then it's all for naught...

Just hope everyone taking part gets as many smiles (and miles) out of this as I already have

    Har har...

I biked 28 miles ish (to get to my 400 goal for the month). It was 98 degrees when I stopped just after noon. Egad. I showered and flopped onto the recliner and haven't actually left it yet (5 hours later). Mr. Wonderful brought me some Ben & Jerry's and I called that lunch. Sheesh, I'm too old and fat for this heatwave!

If I'm going to ride tomorrow, it's gotta be at 5am because after church we are driving a couple of hours to the capital city so Mr. Wonderful can race in the ridiculous afternoon heat. He's crazier than I am, clearly... which isn't a very high bar, of course.

Looking like an early start for me tomorrow too... forecast for rain by mid-day, co-inciding with the Eurosport Tour Coverage beginning. So - early start, food, ride a few km's, back for mid-day, second breakfast, shower and veg out watching the TV I guess...

Edit: and that's pretty much how things panned out. got back in time to enter the rest of everyone's riding yesterday, added todays for me and a couple of others, watched LeTour, and just about to go make the evening meal.

We're doing great on the challenge - Team 1 have hit the mileage totals for day 1 and 2, Team 2 have ace'ed the first day as well, but only one ride declared so far - plenty of time yet though

I will get my ride in when it cools off this evening! I'm a null for 6/30. Should I put my null on the ride report thread or this one?

Drop it in the mileage thread ( http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/651557-tdf-challenge-mileage-thread-ride-details-only-please ) after you've done todays, just put 2 lines in the post - one for the null, and next line for todays

No ride for me today, I reckon. This morning was the 1 year checkup at the hospital for my Knee operation. Spent 20 minutes getting pushed, prodded and poked, A MRI scan on the knee, another 15 minutes on a treadmill running, a needle in the right knee to draw off some fluid, 30 minutes sitting bored $hitless waiting for results, a Cortisone injection into the knee again, and another MRI and further 30 minutes wait. Just home from it now, and don't really feel up to riding in the rain and wind this evening. Hopefully I'll be ready to roll again tomorrow morning.

Good news part however, is that the 3 patellar bursa's that I'd damaged are now much better, 2 are completely ok, and the third (the prepatellar one) which was touch and go if i'd need it removed, is in pretty good condition, just a few "floaters" in there, which the cortisone should help address. It's certainly not in danger of needing operations at this time - improvement is partly due to the not insubstantial weight losses I've made, but also, according to the knee specialist "definitely helped by the tweaks to my riding position we've made (we being the knee specialist, the physio and me!) - raising my saddle slightly, shimming my left foot by 3mm or so to address the fact that the left leg is shorter than the other after another accident - which levels my pelvis and tracks my right knee straighter.

So - 9 months of discomfort, continual faffing with saddle heights and gradually raising shims on the left foot, plus around 3km of kinesio tape hasn't been entirely wasted!

Captain Yin; no problem. Glad the knee is much better; I know mine are. Keep up the good work.
