  • I'm about halfway through losing 70. It's taken me 3 months so far. I log daily and do interact with my friends. Add away.
  • Anything with the word "detox" in it is pretty much snake oil.
  • 6'5" and fine with it with three exceptions: 1. People looking up my nose 2. Other people with umbrellas in crowds 3. Low beams and light fittings.
  • You're very welcome. Life's too short to not have the odd off day. Off days yes, off weeks, probably not.
  • One binge won't put you off course. Don't worry too much about it and return to normal tomorrow. If you have to beat yourself up, do it physically in the gym and not mentally :-)
  • Oh come on! Everyone has looked on MFP's cardio exercises to try to log sex (and then thought of how their image would be effected by logging 2 minutes of cardio lol)
  • A defect is like having a credit card. You need to spend calories that you haven't eaten to force your body to borrow from the bank (ie any body fat you have to hand). (Without getting overly complicated about BMR, TDEE, etc. you'll figure those terms out as you go). Good luck.
  • In a nutshell.... Fitbit tracks your activity and if you haven't been active enough it'll reduce your calorie allowance on MFP a for the day (shows up as a negative number in your cardio exercise on MFP) If (say) you go to bed at 11pm and get up at 7, when you sync your fitbit and MFP a, you'll probably have -100 or so…
  • Who ever first came up with the idea that beer is empty calories could suck the joy out of a clown. Beer has calories, you're using MFP to track calories and your macros. It's about choices and entirely up to you how you fit it in. Light beers are low in calories but is rather have a pint of proper brown beer.
  • I also have bad knees (anyone spotting a pattern on this thread). I'm no expert but all I would suggest (the same as any other exercise) is to start small and build it up while listening to your body. If it hurts (joint pain, not muscle pain) stop and restart when it doesn't.
  • No worries. Be sure to enable negative calorie adjustment on the fitbit though (I think you have to do it on the MFP a website but I've got a sketchy memory in the wee small hours).
  • All of the comments about the OPs burn are fair - it might be an overestimate but the one piece of the puzzle that's missing is that burn depends on all sorts of factors and simple physics says that the most important one is weight. If person A weighs twice what person B weighs then person A's burn will be roughly double…
  • Actually you could manually change where MFP gets its step info from each time but I suspect that would be a huge PITA
  • Had to delete post. Went on wrong thread.
  • I think it's one or the other - I know Apple won't be supporting Fitbit integration with the iOS 8 health kit as it'll cut across what they plan to do with their smart watch. I just use my Fitbit for everything and look at the iPhone steps out of curiosity rather than anything else.
  • I log food and exercise in MFP and just use my flex as a step counter. Mind you, I have enabled negative fitbit calories on MFP so whatever I log on MFP gets corrected if I'm working harder (or as is often the case, not) by fitbit. That was the suggestion I got from both fitbit and MFP a support. Hope that helps.
  • Go for it!

  • I accept most friend requests unless someone looks like a serial killer in their profile photo.
  • ^^^ Very comprehensive reply. It's probably worth looking at other things each company makes. Me and Mrs McBoffin each use a fitbit flex and we have the fitbit aria scales. Both work very well for us (although I'm hoping for a charge HR for my birthday ;-) ).

  • Good work! This is the place to be to get support and encouragement.
  • So am I right in thinking you can: A. Calculate protein requirements from lean body mass; or B. Calculate is as a proportion of total energy expenditure? I'm guessing that the higher value from A or B is the one to go with?
  • I can see that protein per unit lean body mass is scientific (but there's a lot of pseudo science associated with diet and exercise - that's why I like to ask stupid questions to separate the wheat from the chaff).
  • That makes sense. I wasn't sure if it was an arbitrary x g of protien per lb or kg of body weight.
  • Gah. Bloody iPhone. I meant am I right?
  • Me and Mrs McBoffin both have a flex and we have the Aria scales too which also sync with MFP. No complaints with either product if I'm honest.
  • There's a small fallacy regarding accountability and other people and MFP. Yes, you'll get plenty of support on MFP and yes you will feel accountable for what you log but at the end of the day it's your mouth that the food goes in, your body that moves to burn calories and your fingers that do the logging. If you're…
  • People who say cardio is bad for weight loss.
  • I have the Fitbit flex and the firbit Aria scales. Both work well with MFP.
  • Actually it's decided to work. It seemed all I needed to do was to guilt trip it on the forums.
  • Add away. Daily logger from Devon here.
