  • I guess I should have added how to adjust a serving. After you scan the item, the nutritional information comes up, at the top the serving size is in blue and is a link. Tap on the serving size and a keypad comes up, allowing you to adjust the serving.
  • When I eat oatmeal, I add each ingredient I add individually. I scan the bar code, then, if I'm not having a full serving, I adjust the serving size to what I'm actually eating. Today, I had McCann's steel cut oatmeal; I scanned it in as I had a full serving. I added Honeywell peanut butter powder; again, I scanned this as…
  • That isn't what he said, from my understanding. No one likes office politics, but it's a part of the culture. By bringing your own food to an, essentially, catered event, you may appear snobbish and "too good" for everyone else. That can do a lot more harm to your future endevours at this office. I've been in your…
  • I don't think that was the meaning. I think, for a lot of us, we can empathize with what is happening. Someone on here summed it up well with "but by the Grace of God go I." For many of us, it could have been and could still become us.
  • This wasn't just a little bit of grunting on the last couple of reps! He was also slamming all of the weights down; I pretty sure it was just for attention.
  • The basic membership at my gym is $25 and includes working with a certified trainer. She has been great in helping me get started lifting (I just started in January after a year of almost exclusive cardio and not getting anywhere). As for the "lunkheads" at my gym; I like them! They are some of the nicest, most supportive…
  • My experience at the gym has been so much better than expected. I was afraid of what people thought of me; but have learned that what they think of me is actually the opposite of what I expected. I know, because some of them have come up to me and told me they are so happy to see me and to see my progress! They were…
  • It's not as difficult for me in the summer; I take a walk at lunch and take a nice, long walk after work. But, it's winter here in Michigan, so those are out of the question right now. I either walk on the treadmill at the gym or walk around Meijer and Walmart (not the most ideal, but the people watching can be…
  • I'm sure these have all been said, but I'll add my 2cents. Buying in larger quantities and as close to whole as you can is cheaper. Rice, dried beans, pasta, frozen veggies and fruit are all fairly inexpensive and easier to work with than you might think. Also, buying a whole chicken is cheaper than boneless, skinless…
  • I work a desk job and snack on things like apple slices and peanut butter, hummus and baby carrots, grapes and cheese, yogurt or cottage cheese. Right now, I've been eating Fiber One bars; I got a good deal on them at Costco. They fill me up and are not real high in calories.
  • I'm still in the obese range, too. Don't get discouraged! Walk, lift weights (start light and work on form first). Bodybuilder.com and simpleshred are great places to start. YES, YES and YES to a good sports bra! Get one rated for high intensity, for whatever you're doing. Definitely try yoga for the improved flexibility!…
  • I do snack, but it's because I was having some difficulty with my blood sugar. It would drop and then I would go berserk at the next meal and over eat. If you're not having trouble with that, and feel you do better without snacks, then don't. I think that how, what and when someone eats is a very individual thing; just…
  • I got the Mainstay digital scale with removable stainlesss steel bowl from WalMart for $20. I like having the bowl, so I don't have to tare it.
  • Michigan. Today is 18* real air temp, with 3* feels like temp. But it is sunny and pretty out. Yesterday we had freezing rain.
  • I'm not sure about this brand, but I've had quark before. A good friend of mine is a homesteader and makes her own. I think it's really good; I love to use it to make smoothies with fruit and honey.
  • I live in southeastern Michigan.
  • LOL! This must be why the cop that lives on my street never stops.
  • With the habit forming threads; I just read (I can't remember exactly where - either NPR or Washington Post) an article about the brain and how it works. What was stated was this: the brain works in patterns and a habit is a pattern of behavior. Just stopping in order to change the habit doesn't work as the brain will look…
  • I think the "grow up" "get on with it," and "just do it" are helpful advice; not judgement. We have all had to do that; that's why we're here. I think it's all about attitude. You can either say, "I have to," or "I want to." I, and many others here, choose to say, "I want to." I want to feel better, I want to lose weight,…
  • OP, I also have PCOS and conceived three times and I was told the same as you; no chance of pregnancy without serious fertility help! Don't rule it out; pee on the stick.
  • I'm in! I'll be 45 this year and still have about 80 lbs to go.
  • I drink my coffee black, no sugar, but I have friends that switched from half and half to skim milk and almond milk. They said it took a little getting used to, but really like it now. I use almond milk on my cereal, as I'm lactose intolerant. It's only 30 cal per 8 oz glass; I'm sure that amount is far more than what…
  • OP, I agree with the ideas of water with fresh fruit added for flavor and tea. I noticed that you mentioned you drink decaffeinated diet soda; so I would definitely make sure your tea is decaf as well. That way you aren't dealing with the caffeine jitters as well. If you need to sweeten your tea, and want to stay with…
  • That was uncalled for! Some people do watch their sodium intake as a part of their diet and informing others of the high salt content in Subway's food may help someone avoid it.
  • One thing I like to pair with fish that my husband likes (and he's picky), is bulgar wheat cooked in low sodium vegetable broth; stir in some dried cranberries and almond slices. It's really good. You could also roast some veggies in the oven with olive oil and thyme or rosemary. Things like zucchini, yellow squash, bell…
  • Yes!! This just happened when I was at the gym yesterday! I wanted to ask, "you have that kid yet." LOL
  • Yup! I'm a bit of a grammar geek, too, so I hate the use of double negatives! Since it's on my mind right now; just about anything my monster-in-law says. She is so judgmental!
  • I would also add, plan your day ahead. I'm not talking "written in stone," just being mindful of what you will be doing for the day. Also, if it's emotional/stress binging that you do, like me, remove yourself from the kitchen/pantry/house. I will take a walk or go to the gym just to remove temptation. It also helps to…
