  • Life is special and it is amazing that you and I are here, regardless of weight. What can you do to stop obsessing and enjoy the present? Maybe trying something new or challenging could help get you out of this dark place? Doing couch to 5k a few years ago give me something positive I could focus on and achieve in small…
  • Nicotine is a mental block. If you get past that, physical side effects/withdrawals are almost nonexistent (I had a mild headache for 3 days). Allen Carr's book the Easy Way to Stop Smoking de-brainwashed me past the mental block and I quit after reading it several years ago after being a 15 year pack a day smoker. Same…
  • Hi, I'm looking for new friends too- please add me! I have about another 10 lbs to go. Have slowly lost 15ish and then gotten stuck. Am ready to knock out the last bit!
  • Please read Allen Carr's The Easy Way to Quit Smoking. I smoked pack/day from age 15- early 30's. Read the book one day and never smoked again. Feel great; sorry for my friends who still smoke. It's so easy! Sounds bizarre, and I'm not a self-help book person but he just has a way of straightening out all the f'ed up stuff…
  • For dinner, steam about 8 or 10 fresh whole okra for 3.5 minutes. Salt & eat (whole thing except the stems) immediately. This is key to cooking it, do it another way or let it sit too long and they will be slimy. It's in season now and you can find it at any grocery store in the south (not sure where you are). If you're…
  • I had an unconmfortable/hyper/can't concentrate response to taking an entire phentermine the 1st day. Cut it back to half a pill at 9 am and the other half at 3 pm and it was fine.
  • I am struggling to find quick dinners too, and am looking for new no-cook dinners that aren't sugary cereal or high-sodium lunch meat. Multi-grain wrap w/ hummus, feta, and diced cukes and tomatoes has been my go-to recently.
  • Maybe chicken salad with whole-fat plain greek yogurt instead of mayo would fit your bill. Food52 has a delish pesto chicken salad w/ yogurt and peas that is super-filling and simple. I use poached chicken breasts and thighs instead of rotisserie chicken and reduce the amount of pesto in it. Other full-fat dairy products…
  • Poached boneless skinless thighs and breasts. Boil them in a stock pot for 1/2 hr with a peeled halved onion, stick or two of celery, bay leaf, bit of salt and 10 or so black peppercorns. Remove from liquid, cool, slice cross-grain and shred. Use or freeze. Strain and save leftover stock.
  • Hi! I'm 35 and 5'8, current w 172, starting w 183, goal w 150 or 160. Have a desk job and am trying to exercise a lot. Will message both of y'all!
  • Hi, I'm looking for some new friends who are active on mfp and maybe have similar goals!? 35 yo, live in the south, desk job. I exercise a lot, and have been working on the diet forever. Am on mfp daily for several months. Looking to lose a size and a half in clothes/ really more of a BMI than weight, although I think…
  • Seltzer water over ice with a wedge of lime is a good substitute, and has 0 calories. If you still want to go to bars, it looks just like a cocktail. I drink it at home too though. You may find yourself craving sugar because you're used to getting so much via alcohol. Enjoy a small dessert, it's still a lot less calories…
  • Mexican food might be a good fit. Try enchiladas. You can make a chile sauce pretty easily (try 2 Tbl chile powder, 1 1/2 - 2 quarts water, 1/2 C flour, and a dash of oregano, cumin, salt and garlic powder). You can put that over a lot of things- make stacked enchiladas by warming up corn tortillas and topping them with…
  • Fast food. Microwave meals. Anything with fructose or high fructose corn syrup. All soda except seltzer. Also almost all bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, chips, crackers, and the like (I think of them as white starches and allow myself 1-2 servings per week only). Have found that I crave completely different things now.
  • Your body is amazing and can do so many things. Please don't feel so bad about yourself. When you look at yourself, all the bad stuff is magnified. When your friends see you, all the good stuff is magnified. I totally understand how you feel and I am there some days too, and was a LOT at 18. But- having a bit of fat on…
  • Hi I'm JoJo, I would like to connect with some new people too. I've been on mfp for a while but really got dedicated about a month ago. I'm trying to log in every day and would like a good support network. Feel free to add me!
  • For drinks I do white wine, lagers, or old school cocktails- liquor + lemon juice, lime juice, or seltzer. For food, sometimes I'll eat before I go to the party so I wont be tempted to eat as much, and decide how much I can have at the party before I get there- like one sweet or savory. Or else plan for it earlier in the…
  • Hi, was excited to see the group! I like good food and alcohol, but tend to spend an hour or two (sometimes more:/) at night cooking in the winter. I'd like to figure out how to eat well while only spending that much time a few nights a week instead of every night. Making healthy meals in the summer seems so much simpler…
  • I tried a variation on it after being diagnosed with fructose malabsorbtion. You might try googling that, especially if this is something that has been bothering you more and more in the last five years or so (as HFCS became more ubiquitous and snuck into everything, I was having more and more pain and issues). I did not…
