  • @jbells93 I would be celebrating a 1 lb loss!!! That's amazing! I gained .2 lb.
  • Same goes with doctors giving out nutrition advice. They take ONE class as part of their medical program. Some of them are good, but at the same time, refer to a licensed professional.
  • Yes, that's what I meant. I do eat them back, but I don't consciously think about it. Thanks for the correction. ☺
  • @Look_Its_Kriss I appreciate your experience and your enthusiasm to help others, However, I take a broader look at nutrition and health rather than focusing on CICO, so that's where my posts come from. I've met many "skinny/normal BMI" persons who drink a 12-pack of soda a day and are diagnosed with everything under the…
  • No food is a bad food except straight margarine or crisco (because of the trans fat... there is no redeeming quality about trans fat). They (as in food companies) have been getting better at reducing the trans fat with their chemistry mumbo-jumbo, tho. haha! And you really can't argue that cake is "healthier" than…
  • I read OP's post and my mouth started salivating and my stomach gurgled just a little bit. I just can't read everyone else's post or else I'm going to make a fresh batch of bread and slather it with butter!
  • I've started investing in really good tasting vinegars to use on my salads. I have a black cherry balsamic vinegar and a cranberry pear white balsamic vinegar. They're about 15 cals per tablespoon and i just sprinkle it on because the vinegars are so tasty and concentrated because they are aged for so long. They are sold…
  • No tips, just a useless fact: Avocado has tons of fiber.
  • I love Mexican food. I grew up in Arizona where they can make a good carne asada burrito and chicken taco. Grew up on the border of New Mexico too, so I am familiar with their New Mexican-Mexican food. But, some of the places can be dangerous, calorie wise. Its the cheese... I love cheese... Any cheese... So, I've started…
  • I keep an assortment of chopped veggies and fruit for snack and salads: Diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, washed grapes, salad mix, olives, avocado. Also, I freeze 3oz portions of chicken and 1/2 cup portions of a cooked grain like quinoa or rice and 1/2 cup portions of beans to throw in my salad for some carbs. Once…
  • That's so awesome! I just found it. Thanks for the tip. I'm gonna be staring at this from now on.
  • I did the same thing. I weaned myself and got some really good coffee. I get this one coffee from New Mexico that is roasted with pine nuts. Now I enjoy the nuances of black coffee. If you simply can't think about having black coffee, just fit it in if it's worth that much to you. I do that with my wine-5 oz and I have to…
  • @ charlenekapf Yeah anything less than 1700 for me is just not possible. I tried doing it, but I could barely hold it together in the evening. When I trained for a half marathon a few years ago, it taught me to listen to my body so I try not to ignore what it's saying... and my body was screaming "EATING SOMETHING NOW!!"…
  • How I feel about calculating TDEE too. haha!
  • All very informative points! I love this debate and clearing out the air! I guess the point is there are a lot of ways and depending on preferences, the one you like most is the one you'll most likely stick to. @jemhh, that makes sense about why percentages are used. @cwolfman13 that makes sense about differing the two…
  • I thought I was the only weird one. Haha! That's amazing you are at 1960 cals per day and are so successful. Honestly, the biggest reason I weight lift is so I can increase my RMR... and thus TDEE.... So I can eat more... haha... YOU LOOK AMAZING!!
  • Ha! No I didn't take pics... I tried to avoid the mirror at all costs, let alone take a picture! I have been here for a while and I usually change my starting weight to keep me motivated. In total I lost about 50 lbs, but my profile now says 6. When I saw that big cumulative number, I started to slack. I know I have old…
  • @jemhh that's great you found what works for you.
  • That's so awesome!
  • Thank you for your knowledge. I get that TDEE is a culmination of resting metabolic rate, thermic effect of food, and physical activity... I.e. energy expenditure. I'm not trying to debate calorie deficit methods (yes, all those you listed are methods(ways) to get to calorie deficit), I just wanna see what kind of success…
  • Nice. Sometimes it is nice to have a little extra if you burned a little extra. What kind of exercise do you do now?
  • Yes, I prefer that too. I don't enjoy doing the math everyday of what I can eat and what not based on my exercise. Thanks for your story.
  • That's awesome! How much more do you have to go?
  • Oh, BTW I lost 1.6 lbs in the past week, so yay!!! Just need to remind myself to stay consistent...
  • I got the gist thanks: More than 2 ways to skin a cat. I just prefer not to record exercise cals burned, the way MFP wants me to. Its a little too tedious for me. Which is why I do TDEE. I like having a consistent calorie goal so I'm not trying to run around and find an extra 100 (or what ever I burned) calories to eat. I…
  • Under the cardio section, I log it as "circuit training"... but I don't bother with the cals burned since I don't log them. It does shoot out an estimate when you put in the time, but I enter 1 as my calories burned.
  • Work those items into your day's calorie allotment. If you regard that food as "bad", sometimes you want it even more. So take a preemptive strike and portion some chips, ice cream, chocolate, etc into your day.
  • Thanks Kimny72. I don't eat my exercise calories back since the TDEE already factors that in for me. Plus, I don't like focusing on calories burned because I just want to enjoy my workout. I do wear a hear rate band and it typically tells me I burn about 250-350 calories per session, but I don't log that number in on MFP.…
  • Yeah, for real. OP Use the items with a green check mark next to them or type in "USDA" when you enter your food item. That will narrow it down to USDA items, which are more accurate. When in doubt, slightly overestimate.
  • Give it time. We lose weight in cycles... so have patience. It sounds like you might actually not be eating enough. Although starvation mode is a contentious issue, what is true is that if we eat too little, our body will breakdown muscle to serve as energy for a short period. This will actually work against you because…
