  • Since I started eating keto, my diet is much healthier. I only eat real food (no more processed junk) and I eat plenty of vegies...but not the high glycemic kind. My weight is dropping and my arthritis pain is gone. My energy level stays even, so no more afternoon blood sugar crashes. I sleep better. I was a "volume eater"…
  • Yes. It's sort of comforting to me to see the overall trend on the graph. And then I don't freak out with the minor fluctuations - it's not a goal number, but a goal range. I can live with that!
  • Start by setting up your account with MFP (setting a goal, etc.) Then log your food and exercise. After you see where you are, you can start to tweak your food (calorie) intake and maybe up your exercise a little at a time to find a plan that will work for you in the long run. You will always have to be mindful of what you…
  • I have found a lot of great recipes on this site and am enjoying trying out new foods. I am also loving my crockpot. I made a yummy chicken taco chili and then divided it into serving portions and froze them. I also like spaghetti squash "lasagne" - which I will cut into serving size portions and freeze. Those two foods…
  • After a lifetime of yo-yo dieting, and closet full of clothes in many sizes, I finally said goodbye to the bigger clothes. I filled 3 large garbage bags for the thrift store. It does feel different this time. And it feels good!
  • I need to buy some clothes that fit me, since I've dropped below the smallest size in my closet. Today I went shopping and automatically went to the plus-size area. Oops. It is a strange (but good) feeling to go to the "regular size" rack!
  • I don't have the dietary restrictions (other than weight management) but I have allowed myself to indulge in some good artisan bread occasionally (yum! with olive oil or butter!) but only on the days that I've done a high intensity activity (usually a long hike with elevation gain) so I've earned the calories. It's guilt…
  • I was visiting an old friend who's been aware of my lifelong struggles with weight. She is currently trying to lose some weight and get back in shape. We were talking with her neighbor (whom I just met that day) about getting into shape and losing weight - her neighbor looked at me and said - oh, but you don't understand,…
  • I have one at work and love it. It really helps with my back and lets me stretch my legs.
  • I picked the highest number that WW said was in the normal range for my height. I reached that and now I feel I could stand to lose another 10 or so. I'm giving myself another year to work on that, so I'm currently "practicing" at maintenance to see how that feels. I've also started strength training. I'm looking more at…
  • I'm learning (and relating to) much of this conversation. Last night I attended an event and several of us shared a bowl of homemade brownies with ice cream and caramel sauce. At first I just passed it along, but then I took a few bites (it was delicious!) Surprisingly, I didn't instantly gain back the 50 lbs I worked so…
  • I totally get what the OP is saying. I've had a lifelong "battle" with weight so I know the drill. I've tried many different "diets" to lose the excess fat: low carb, WW, South Beach, Diet Center, grapefruit, etc... In the end, it is really all about what I do every day for the rest of my life (food/exercise/mind) and…
  • Well, I don't what to think about this thread! I'm 5'5", 148# and I wear a 12 in pants and a 12-14 in tops. How come I'm so much larger than many of the folks that are similar height/weight? I'm feeling a little bit discouraged, to be honest...
  • I'm planning on continuing logging when I reach maintenance. I'm getting close now, and I'm actually a little bit scared about it. I am testing the waters, so to speak, by trying to slow down the rate of loss for the last 10 lbs. It's hard to give myself the extra calories. I'm so afraid of gaining it back. I NEED MFP!
  • I started at 200 and was aiming for 150. I'm currently at 148 but think I should try to get down a few more - maybe 140? I'm 5'5" and 63 years old. I've been overweight/obese most of my life - highest weight was 220 about 10 years ago. Last winter I hit 200 and said enough - and thanks to MFP, I'm succeeding! I have to be…
  • I don't know how old you are, but if you are middle aged or above, sagging boobs will be joining sagging belly skin, sagging thighs, sagging arm "flaps"...which is still so much better than the fat you lost! Embrace it!
  • Don't beat yourself up. But you can also take a walk and earn those calories. That has really helped me lose 51 lbs. I stay accountable to myself.
  • I always have a bottle of water in my car, so if I want something "special" it is likely going to be a diet (or plain unsweetened) ice tea. Sometimes I'll go all out and get a SOBE 0 calorie drink. If I'm at Costco, it's either water or the low cal "lemonade." I gave up sodas a few years ago, so that is no longer an option.
  • I quit drinking diet soda about 4 years ago. I had a bone density scan and learned that, despite being heavy my whole life, I was heading to osteoporosis. I learned that the carbonation in sodas contributed to this (something about how it impeded calcium absorption and possibly leached it from the bones) so that was enough…
  • hgrace, if you repost this in the motivation and support section of the forum, you will get lots of buddies!
  • I also love to eat. And once I reach maintenance (6 more to go!) I will keep logging. I also love to hike, and will do extra miles when I have a potluck or some other food related event to attend. If I eat it, I have to earn it. So far that has worked for me (down 49 lbs!) Another thing that has helped me is the…
  • My HR Charge worked this morning. It hadn't been syncing for about a week. So glad it is working again (hopefully for good?)
  • When people were commenting about this earlier, mine was still syncing...then it stopped working suddenly two days ago... :( I didn't realize how much I used this feature...I sure hope it gets resolved VERY soon.
  • I love the Charge HR. I've had it for about 6 weeks and it really has made a difference in my motivation to get out and walk. I've also been interested in my sleep pattern and this verified what I suspected...that I don't get enough sleep! I really like how it links to MFP (except lately MFP has been having some technical…
  • This is terribly frustrating! I have gotten so used to using these tools, that I'm kind of at a loss now. I hope it gets fixed ASAP!
  • While I am still not ready to start the maintenance phase, I think it helps me to just take an extra long walk if I went over my calorie limit for the day. My Fitbit (I love this tool!) gives me an idea of how much I need to do. Usually I can just walk up the hill near my home and that covers me!
  • I went through my closet and removed all the clothes that no longer fit...3 bags of "too big" blouses, pants, dresses, etc. I used to just put them on the end of the closet because I always gained back the weight...and well, I like some of those clothes (just not the size!) For the first time in forever, I now don't have…
  • Remember that losing weight will help with your diabetes, and your back pain. You CAN do it!
