  • I wanted to let you know that there are a couple of groups on here of post-op people. You should join one of these groups as there are hundreds that support one another that are having questions about exercise and diet after surgery. I personally had the VSG-sleeve about a year and a half ago. While I am not at my goal…
  • Muscle weighs more per pound than fat. Lose one and replace it with the other and you could have a gain. What difference does the number on the scale matter if you are seeing positive changes in your body by loss of inches or in better proportion? That is my goal to reduce clothing sizes and to look better and feel better.…
  • I see that. But do you need to record each of the 10 or so machines that I may do on that day? Do you get ANY calorie burn info on the strength training exercises? I only do 2 sets of 15 reps on each machine. I may only be on the machines for 30 minutes start to finish. I spend 1/2 that time recording the ones I do on the…
  • I had VSG done in May, 2015. I am down 80 some pounds give or take. I still have nearly 100 to go to reach my goal. I am pretty inactive and hope to improve on that. Most days I can stay below the calorie goals with my normal eating. I indulge and can still stay under! My Nutritionist has me between 1000 and 1200 calories…
  • My husband was weighing before and after exercise! I didn't know if he thought he was weighing the sweat that he had eliminated or what. Even then, it is only water weight that he was measuring and not a lasting result. Take it easy on yourself and measure your loss on a weekly basis. And then, look at the overall loss,…
  • I was sleeved in May, 2015 and have lost 88 lbs but still want to lose 75-100 more! I am struggling with motivation and have had some changes in eating habits that I thought I had built into my new lifestyle. Cheating with carbs especially and not logging as I should. Trying to build an exercise routine that I will DO and…
  • I still have not reached my goal, although I am 14 months out from surgery. I have lost about 85 lbs, but still have nearly 100 to go. I was highly motivated when I was losing the required weight to "qualify" for surgery. I did pretty well when I was healing and stuck to the plan. Each week following surgery I was faithful…
  • LCHF....is this low carb, high fat? Without worrying about protein? I am less than one year out from my VSG and not losing as I thought I would and also not as much as my doc thought I would. I am trying to be patient as I figure at least I am down the 80 lbs I was living with a year ago. The thing is, I still want to lose…
  • Perhaps I am not so far off from what I am supposed to do if some of you are following these same guidlines and being successful. I did exercise this morning before getting ready for work and although it is only a one day streak, I hope to get back in that habit. It had been nearly 2 weeks since I had done the exercise…
  • Today I actually got up early before heading to work and got BACK on my exercise bike. First time in 17 days and the last time was the first time in over a month!. I know that one time won't make much of a difference, and that I need to get back to a habit of exercise on a regular basis. But I have started. Thanks for the…
  • @cmhandler74, I have an open diary for "friends" and so I could add you in if you are willing to look and give additional advise specific to me. I am aiming for 800 calories a day, but don't always get that. I strive for 60-80 proteins and need to use a shake to get that in. I have left the shake as a morning snack about…
  • I just heard from our dietician staff at the monthly support group for the practice I had my surgery with. I thought that at 4 months my goal was to be 60-80 g of protein daily. She announced today that the lifetime amount (anytime after 6 weeks post surgery) is now raised to 80-100! I have been aiming at 800 calories…
  • Thanks everyone for the support. I work at it daily, but as you have said it is worth it..I am worth it.
  • Today I got back to my exercise bike first thing. I know that this will also help. My weight is up and I know that the choices I have been making can't help. My body must be used to the lower calorie amount and even though I don't cheat way out of my calorie goal, I have done enough to make a difference. My increased…
  • Glad for him. Sounds like he was just pinching a nerve. It all gets better with time.
  • You too also have the advantage of having each other to support you. I know that my poor husband hasn't been eating his normal way since I did this. I am not cooking for him as I am doing MY own thing. He does well for himself, but we don't share food like we used to. Even grocery shopping is more of a YOURS and MINE…
  • I had this type of numbness when I was pregnant, and like creepykbear, I noticed it more when standing. This could be an injury of the sciatic nerve. If you are bearing weight differently, your posture may have shifted to put pressure on this nerve. I don't know for sure, but this is what I would suspect is causing this.
  • I had the same idea as pennysteed, to walk the halls at school. Before school, they are typically empty but provide a weather-free location and often long stretches to walk without any obstacles. If you keep moving the other staff will see you as being enroute to someplace important and not bother you to stop and chat.…
  • Pennysteed, I am 4 months out from VSG and have had my share of plateaus too. I think that you have to accept them as part of the process and not worry too much. I have had weight loss in numbers never reached before. I took 6 months to lose 35 lbs before surgery. That was without the vsg tool but I was highly motivated to…
  • I was going to suggest carrying some hard boiled eggs. You can do those before you leave and have them ready to go whenever you need something. Also, use LIGHT Miracle whip as it is less guilt producing, and tastes as good. You should have a family that supports you. Perhaps they can pick up that junk food along the way,…
  • It gets easier as time goes on. Keep working at it. I know that I can drink water with additives (crystal light, Snapple flavors , Wyler's sugar free flavors) faster and easier than plain water. I don't know why, but its so true. Perhaps you should start there. Also, are you counting some of your foods as liquid too? My…
  • I am nearly 13 weeks out from my VSG. I am 5'11" and my HW was 366. I am down now to CW288. My doctor said I am doing fine...to expect a 1-2 lb. per week loss. I had hoped to be further than that by now. Since "everyone is different" (a phrase I am sick of hearing despite the fact it's true) you have to be patient and not…
  • You all speak about "dense" protein. I was told to stick with "lean" protein. Can anyone explain the difference? Or is there one?
  • I count the 35 lbs lost before surgery and the orientation in November as my starting point. I really dedicated myself to losing the weight and spent my 6 months until surgery in getting to learn how I need to change in order to lose. I researched the surgery, read up on and collected diet information and also the recipes…
  • My surgeon did not give me a goal (I am 10 weeks out) but when I asked him what my goal should be, he asked me what I thought it should be. I suppose my question was really, "what should I realistically expect my weight to be?". I know that my weight watcher goal had been 160 and I really would be happy just to be under…
  • Well I am on the blood thinner as part of my cardiology medication routine...outside of the surgery. That is why I asked here, since I did not know WHICH doctor to call about this. I will be seeing my surgeon next week but not see my cardiologist until my next checkup in January. I may give the WLS case manager a call…
  • Lori, we are here for you and anxious to watch you succeed all the way to goal. Like someone above wrote...do the next right thing.
  • 911Chrisy, you will do fine. I see that you posted on this months after others were following the topic. I wanted you to get a true response from someone. I was so blessed to have a caring staff at my surgeon's office and through the hospital's support group that I was at peace with having the surgery. I had prepared well…
  • I am on blood thinners and would expect this a bit if I had done this before surgery. Now of course I am wondering if this indicates low iron or some other vitamin that I am not getting. It has been about 10 weeks since my VSG and although some of my bruising has cleared up, I look speckled on my upper thighs. I can't…
  • I appreciate all of your comments. Nick will be here Monday night and I suspect we will hit the gym on Tuesday morning. I will be ready to listen and learn and then be adding some weights to my new exercise routine.
