I've never heard of white butter either (I'm in the UK too) looking at her explanation though, I believe that most of our cattle are grass fed anyway? Or at least only have hard feed in the winter. Something like that anyway! :)

I've found a 3 day fat fast helpful in shaking things up a bit every now and then. I don't do it regularly because I don't like it very much but it's a useful tool to bring out on occasion.

I still drink a moderate amount of dry wine. I find that so long as I keep the carbs under control and continue to work out it doesn't hinder weight loss. If I have too much or start on beer than I maintain rather than lose.

Yup -me too! Glad you've discovered the green beans TotalOblivia - I love them roasted in olive oil and salt.

I calorie count. When I first started (Jan this year) I was strict about it but I needed it to re-educate myself about portion sizes etc. I gave myself the summer off from cc, still ate low carb, drank a lot of wine (!) and still exercised a fair bit. It was a nice break from feeling like I was dieting and I managed to…

If you're caught on the hop when you're out and about Morrison's is fantastic. They have plain boiled eggs and satay chicken skewers in their sandwich range plus there's the salad bar and the hot take away thing where you can get hot chicken and pork crackling. Also, a lot of sandwich bars (the kind where you order what…

One advantage of being in the UK, we only have net carbs so we don't have any of this net/total angst!

They say that in Lancashire too!

Yup - big girl pants and getting on with it. Nothing else for it

Thanks! Nice to 'see' you again

Hi, Another UK LCHFer here. I've lost 3.5 stone since the beginning of this year. I had a break from tracking on here over the summer with the aim of maintaining for a few weeks (which I did) and now back in the saddle, hoping to lose another stone by Xmas and then I'll be happy. This is by far and away the best, best,…

Amen to that.

When I was a kid and used to bake with my Nan, red food colouring in bottles was always labelled 'Chochineal'. She took great delight in telling me it was crushed beetles that made our fairy cake icing pink! I'm kind of surprised that this isn't widely known. I'm not about to rush out and eat Pop Tarts though o:)

I love John Briffa, he started me on the LCHF path. The NHS is like a big old lumbering dinosaur, Lord only knows how long it'll take it turn it's views around. The Change4Life stuff they force onto our kids is a constant source of irritation.

I've only recently discovered that skin tags are linked to IR. I started developing a lot as I got older, been LCing for 7 months now and they're all gradually shrivelling and disappearing. Amazing really.

^^ This with bells on! When I first went LCHF people were mystified, 6 months later and 40odd lbs lost, suddenly I'm the diet guru and people are hanging on my every word! And this too, I'm delighted with my woe, if people want to know more I'll happily run on for hours about it. If they don't get it <shrug> they have my…

I sometimes do these, they're a bit of a faff but worth it in the end! purewow.com/entry_detail/national/8030/Crispy-prosciutto-wrapped-cauliflower.htm#_a5y_p=1053914

Oh man, that's brilliant! Putting chorizo on the grocery list... [/quote] ....and Brie, definitely add Brie - I insist!
-
I like to fry chopped chorizo in butter then tip it, together with the butter and spicy chorizo oil, over a salad. Works really well with Brie.

Oblivia - I think you're my weight loss twin! I started on 5th Jan, have less than 20g of carbs a day. I've lost 3 stone (despite what MFP says on my home page!) and have another 2 (ish) to go. I totally get what you mean about motivation. For me, it's when I feel great after losing so much and fitting into smaller clothes…

Butterscotch :)

I find Da Vinci syrups vary a lot between flavours. My favourite is Joseph's thick maple syrup. I buy it here in the UK but think it's imported from America.

I've sent a request - Tracey Bennett on FB.

Same as oblivia, except I use Asda!

I find, so long as I don't go crazy, a few glasses of dry white wine a week don't have too much of an impact on my weight loss. I experimented with some ketostix and discovered I stay in ketosis even after drinking the night before. I agree with Fitgoat's view, it's possible I may lose weight quicker if I didn't drink at…

I'm 43, 5' 3" and 11stone 12lbs (and in the UK!) I've lost 3 stone this year and hope to lose another 2. I started off on Atkins but have now adapted it slightly - largely to accommodate Sauvignon Blanc. B) I count calories to help me with portion control but it's carbs I focus on, I'm always under 20g net. When I was…

I have an old 19th Century cook book somewhere that has a recipe for 'mutton ham', I haven't tried it I have a friend who did. 'Sheepy' was the verdict!
-
I started off on Atkins and always count calories as well as carbs. I did this because when I started my eating was disordered and I couldn't rely on feeling full to make me stop eating. I needed to re-educate myself about portion size and calorie counting did that for me. I'm also rubbish at guessing portion size by eye…

I've never heard of primal coffee before but am so amused to read this! My great grandad always used to whisk an egg into his cup of tea in the morning, much to the horror of the family. He died over 40 years ago but his tea/egg has passed into family legend and people still tell each other in shocked tones "You know he…

My target is under 20g net (I'm in the UK so we only have net carbs over here, thankfully!) 'Bahji' can mean different things, in this case it's not the fried stuff in chick pea flour but fairly dry vegetable curries. Shashlick is a kebab but a tandoori version so the marinade is fairly safe and they're made just of meat,…
