My coconut oil I get from Publix is yummy! I use it in all kinds of things! It is good on your skin too

You really should have a consult with dietician and determine your exercise threshold Many ways to coordinate to control things. Seems like you would be on a medicine? Burning the sugar out of your system with exercise is a great tool. Eating a calorie deficit will help lose body fat, and the presence of that fat increases…

85% cocoa dark chocolate is a treat and good for your heart. I have some every morning with coffee, rarely ever miss. A diet disaster isn't a treat. But a there are indulgences I can manage. I can grab a brownie with a cup of coffee at Starbucks before a morning bike ride and it is burnt off is 7 miles or so. Of course I…

Is there a Perfornance Bicycle shop near you? Every one across the country has a Saturday morning beginner ride It is a no drop ride, so nobody gets left behind and it is a slower pace ride Google them

After being inspired by this thread to find a better way to calculate calories burned I went to Lance Armstrongs site This is a bit more specific to weight and speed http://www.livestrong.com/article/135430-calories-burned-biking-one-mile/#page=2

For some it works I am moderate to low carb and it works great Lost over 130 lbs But I have no delusions that it is great for everyone else. Some actually hate it and do better on high carb Just watch your calories and see how you feel A nutrition strategy that suits you should not make you feel bad and be a drudgery. Do…

I rested yesterday after 65 miles on the bike over the weekend My legs are still sore Gonna listen to the body and probably do some weights for upper body. I gotta listen now that I'm old!!!

Honestly sleep is the biggest determinant to my lifting strength and gains. I'm predisposed to add muscle easily but have a terrible time losing fat. It is a constant struggle. Maybe just being older? But I need my rest days. I can't burn the candle at both ends. The body just says no! The higher cardio helps everything.…

That is amazing progress!!

Gyms are intimidating at first when they are new and strange But the staff is there to help you You will meet others that are nice and will help you I have been going to the same gym for over a year and a half. At first it was just like your feelings. Now I have a bunch of friends and a half dozen or so I work out with…

I've done a few grad school papers. Every class required one at minimum Your replies are getting a bit presumptive you are dealing with people seeking only to justify their opinion and not learn current info Our understanding of how the mitochondrial function impacts weight control and how that internal switch works is…

These online calculators are wildly inconsistent Ugh Heart rate monitor time Thanks for taking time to give some good feedback

Thanks Good idea Sorry for the short thread hi-jack I just really go by pushing myself I will break out my old Polar HRM and give it a shot. I used it for jogging. Cycling is relatively steady state. As long as weight is coming off weekly I'm good My friends I ride with that are faster always push me anyway.

Map my ride gave me these numbers Tell me if you think it is close to right 28.1 miles 1:17:13 time 21.7 mph 2311 calories Pretty much flat ride For me that was an all out panting effort. It is a serious push to keep an average over 20 mph for 20+ miles I'm in the first 90 days of biking but a lifter for a year so my legs…

That Map My Ride seems consistently 25% higher than Bicycling.com calorie calculator. It calculated 2465 for that ride but did not factor the elevation change. I love cycling as a great way to add variety to the fitness tools available to s person creating a new lifestyle. You can make great riding friends and do fun…

Diet and exercise works It isn't risky

You took step one. Just get used to counting calories by weighting your food on a $25 digital food scale. Get used to some exercise I started my weight loss journey about 30 months ago. Over 130 lbs lost. Didn't find MFP until recently. The food log is super helpful!! Just work it. No magic required. The weight will come…

This is the bottom line

I lift doing mainly compound exercises twice a week. Love me some deadlifts and squats I bike 3 days a week 30-40 miles per ride. I eat a pretty much opposite diet you do OP. I guess it gets down to calorie surplus in lift days and deficit on ride days but not too huge of a deficit. A 40 mile ride takes off 2500-2800…

The word detox rings marketing scam to me

I log it all I have logged eating a whole pizza before after a 2 1/2 hour bike ride. In a funny way logging those huge meals and still losing weight long term is proof that this is a long term project. The only thing I have noticed about huge meals is they often have huge salt content. I like a big pulled pork BBQ meal…

I'm a fan Got a good one with removable big bowl and love it I keep Saran Wrap by mine and put a piece in it before weighing meats and stuff Love it!!! Best $25 spent ever!

I was lifting hard two days a week and biking hard three days a week The scale was bouncing up and down and I did see some tape measure changes. But I took two light exercise days and watched my calorie intake to be lower carb those two days.... And then the couple pound whoosh happened. 3 weeks of essentially a plateau…

This sounds a bit like the reasons I like some of the thoughts behind Paleo dieting. Naturally occurring food. I'm not a grain eater. I do remember the smell of toast in the morning from my childhood. Funny what sticks with you. The scent of bacon coffee and toast Morning defined

That sounded pretty manipulati I have become more sensitive to tastes as well. It has become quite a fun thing I found Penzy's spice shop and then their web site as a great place to find interesting spices to add variety to my lower carb meals Last year I didn't know what shallot pepper was. Now I have a moderate addiction!

If I may ask, what is it about this new stuff your friend says is so great? What is it supposed to do to help weight loss? And as you can tell, I have not heard of it.
