wow...nice ride. Talk about making the most out of a bad situation... I may have to start leaving my bike lying around...

I'm just an old dude cranking out 6000km/year... love my bike, it's brought me great joy, health and feelings of accomplishments. I'll never race, never be great, just a guy on a bike....
-
Planned on 5000kms for the year... thinking 6000 is going to happen...

Jeez...don't ever get white bar tape... I spend 20 minutes washing down the bike and 30 trying to clean the *(^%&^ bar tape. And.... it came with white originally and I replaced it with white...knowing how much work it was, but... gotta keep the ride looking right...ya know what I mean?

I don't think a bike fit is going to make you much more efficient, but it should make you much more comfortable! and that's pretty important. Also, a poor fit can result in stress injuries, body part numbness, etc. The big thing with a 100km... manage yourself... drink regularly, eat regularly... don't wait until you're…

Nice scenery. Makes me want to head down the PNW and put some miles on...

I've never had a problem with my Garmin sensors. Maybe you've got a defective one.

Strava definitely seems to be the most conservative estimate for calories; I tend to believe it, even though it doesn't see wind direction/speed which can make a huge difference on a bike. I've never understood why so many apps (and devices like exercise bikes, etc) grossly overestimate calorie burn. Its like they're…

I like the idea...not sure how well it work in the real world. If it changed from a blinky to solid bright when you slowed...might not be too bad... also would be good when riding in a group

They make different sized saddles for different width sit bones... stop at a bike store and see if they can make a better recommendation than what you're using. You spend WAY too much time on the saddle to put up with an ill sized one....

I haven't figured out a solution either... nothing worse than putting a slimed up helmet on after a coffee stop on a long ride...

I always wear a helmet (and glasses...protect those eyes!) and keep a live track going so the wife knows how to find me. More than once I've thought I should have better ID/Emergency contact info with me... will look into the road id...thanks for that

I'm almost flattered... You’re a climber. Your friends curse your cadence. nickname is "Hors catégorie"

I live in the same area as the OP...maybe even the same city. I use a runner style hiking shoe - good grip and waterproof. As soon as you start to get out of the "tourist" hikes, the paths can be quite steep, rooted, exposed shale sticking up, etc. You need good grip. And lots of well shaded areas on paths can have snow…

Lose enough weight and wine starts to pack a good punch...

I ride a road bike. Do about 5000km year. Not sure if that qualifies as a cyclist to you or not. What are looking for?
-
Also - Do you know the route? Is it flat? hilly? etc. That will have a huge bearing on things. But time in the saddle is still the first step no matter what.

Calgary should NOT host another winter Olympic. Realistically, no one should...the cost is too much for whatever benefit it may bring. Oddly enough, you still see the odd Sun Ice volunteer jacket from the 88 Olympics... people still have them and wear them...

I rode the Highwood Pass fondo this summer and had to carefully watch a bear by the roadside... nothing like coming down one of the few downhills on the ascent portion and having to ride the brakes grrrrrr

So far, I've avoided trouble, but I live in fear of going down at full speed... watched a guy go down at 50 kph right in front of me and I was just grateful to avoid the wreckage. Took a while to get an ambulance there and haul him to the hospital (serious concussion (helmets save lives!), broken wrist, cracked a couple…

No one tells you that there will be times when you wake up terrified that you've gained all the weight back....

Holy Hell! I'd put up a tree just to hang those....

Half the funny people in Hollywood are Canadians.... Jim Carrey, Dan Aykrody, Mike Meyers, Seth Rogan, Eugene Levy, Leslie Nielsen, Howie Mandel, John Candy, etc, etc.... google it and you'll be amazed.

If I'm by myself, pepperoni and anchovy... if I'm with anybody else...whatever they want, I know that they'll veto the anchovies.... not sure what's up with that, but sadly.. no one but me likes anchovies....

Calgary -21C ( about -6F)... been this way for a week and got more of it scheduled.... absolutely sucks!
-
Granville Island Brewery's Lions Winter Ale - absolutely fantastic dark beer for winter...I'm going to have to stock up before they shut it down in the spring....
-
A drizzle of olive oil, a dash or two of chipotle or cayenne pepper... roast em up... so much better than a bland old potato...
-
I've been drinking a lot of Innis&Gunn lately. My usual is Wild Rose Barracks Brown. But I'm pretty happy with almost any dark beer, as long as the hops are contained

I had a partial replacement about 5 years ago and was warned against impact type activities. I really miss running, but I've learned to enjoy cycling instead. My understanding is that you can basically do a tkr twice on a knee before you run out of bone to work with, and given how young you are, you're going to have to…
