Hahaha wow, you made me a whole new thread! Thanks, I appreciate that. I didn't see a point in overly restricting my calories. Eating at a reasonable deficit of 500 calories a day less than maintenance was enough to allow me to lose the weight comfortably. Good luck on your own journey and all the best!

Thank you so much! My success was honestly mostly thanks to you. Without your thread, I wouldn't have even considered lifting in the first place. You're awesome and thanks again! :)

Yay! I did it, I got to the point where I can make my own "success story" thread! As my success was largely thanks to the awesome tips you gave in this thread, I linked to your thread in my own post. It seems simpler than rehashing to everyone everything that you already told them! In conclusion, you are awesome and know…

Oh my gosh guys, I am feeling very overwhelmed by all your kind responses! Thank you so much! Six months ago, I couldn't even run for 3 minutes without becoming exhausted! Have you tried a couch to 5K app? There are many around that are free to download, and I used one to improve my running when I first started. Even now,…

Thanks so much to everyone for your kind words and support! It really means a lot to me

I'm a lawyer, so I spend a lot of my working day sitting down in front of a desk or at court. I get my exercise done early in the morning at about 6am before work. What is your height and how much do you weigh? People always talk about 1200 cals being the magic number but unless you're tiny, it may be too low. If your…

Thank you so much, everyone! I used a personal trainer because prior to 6 months ago, I had never lifted a dumbbell in my LIFE. I wanted to make sure my form was ok. Anyway, she put me on a program similar to ICF 5x5 I think, and I have been doing it with her for 6 months. The main thing I learned from doing…

Huge arms!!

Yes. Yes, yes, yes, a THOUSAND TIMES YES. I'm 31 years old, 5'9 and my starting weight was 96.1 kg (212 lbs). I've been eating 1700 cals a day for the last 5 months and as of today, I've lost 17.4 kg (38lbs). I now weigh 78.4kg (173 lbs). Yes I've been exercising (3 days cardio, 3 days weights) but food is the key thing…

I'm 5 foot 9 and a half. Boom! 16.5kg (36 pounds) in 4 months! Still going but very happy with my results so far. :)

No worries and that's exactly it! Ain't no shame in dialling back to improve technique! ;)
-
The technique my PT did for me that really helped with the squats was dialling back on the weight and practicing goblet squats with a kettle bell. Once I incorporated that into my routine, full depth became a lot easier for me. It probably took me about 4 months to get better at them but I am still by no means perfect! If…

Your routine sounds perfect! Yeah, I did have issues with squats, although I'm not sure if it had anything to do with how long my legs are. I think it more has to do with the difficulties I've had with getting the technique down pat and getting into the resistance training mindset. It's all still very new to me. I'm…

Thank you so much! Do you mean my training routine? I train in the mornings 6 x a week. 3 days are cardio (5km jogs outside) and 3 days are resistance training- heavy weights at the gym, working full body; deadlifts, bench press, squats etc. I have a personal trainer that helps me with the weights side of things (simply…

As I still have 10 kg (22 pounds) to go, I'll post a before/during pic! I'm 32 years old, and 176 cm tall (5'9 and a half) BEFORE (1 May 2015) Starting weight: 97 kg (214 pounds) Body fat percentage (calliper test): 60.2% NOW (7 September 2015) Current weight: 81.3 kg (179 pounds) Body fat percentage (calliper test): 35.8%…

I'm down 15 kg (33 pounds) in four months! I've still got a bit to go but I'm now in my final stretch!

How much are you eating? What are you eating? Are you able to open your diary so we can have a look? What ratio of macros have you set? Without this information, it's hard to give some specific advice, but I can say this generally based on my own experience: 1. If it's really hard or if you're having binges or constantly…

A cool guy- most likely a pilot.

From your profile name, I'd say 39. But from your profile picture, I'd say 34. :)
-
As long as it's a resemblance in looks only, I'm flattered! Thank you :)

Hahaha. I went blonde for the first time yesterday, so I've never had that comparison before!

Where did you get the awesome batman shirt? :)

Workplace procrastination is over 9000.

Hey Vismal- I just want to thank you so much for this thread! 9 weeks ago I read through this thread from beginning to end and followed your advice to the letter. I got a food scale and weigh EVERYTHING. I'd never done weights before so I got a PT and am now doing heavy weights. In 9 weeks I've lost over 7 kg (15 lb), I've…
-
PS. With all the exercising I'm doing, my PT has told me I have to increase my calorie intake again, so I'm bumping up to 1800 per day next week :)
-
Thank you! I use Scitec Nutrition 100% Whey for my protein. Others can correct me on this- but I'm told there's not a lot of difference between the whey-based proteins. Just find one that tastes good (and check the calories per serve!). Also obviously don't get any mass-gainers, unless that's what you're after, haha. I…

Thanks so much! I'm losing a lot right now because I have a lot to lose, though. The weight loss rate may be slower for you if you have less to lose than me (my stats: SW 214, CW 196, GW 160) My diary is open, but in case you can't see it for some reason, I eat: Two eggs, a piece of multigrain toast and a protein shake for…

Thank you!

This x infinity. Yep, you definitely need to be weighing your food because you are probably eating more than you think you are. But... but... 1200 calories is way too low for you, woman! Stop starving yourself! Weight loss is a long journey. Do you really want to spend that journey experiencing hunger pangs, thinking about…
