  • I am doing it to reclaim my lost health. I'm only 49. I have lots of play left in me if I can get into shape!
  • Awesome way to start out! I am new, too. Love this community / site. It really makes it easy. Best of luck on your weight loss journey.
  • I look for one healthy new recipe to try each week. I also am trying to do one new physical activity a week (or on really bad weather days break out the Just Dance 4 game on Play Station). Great thread!
  • I think everyone has their own technique for dealing with temptations. I have an addictive personality. I smoked for 20 years, and ate food like an addiction, etc.... I think alcoholics do not allow themselves just a little drink everyday for a reason....the little bit leads to a whole lot. I could be wrong about this for…

  • unjelly, I think self control is one of those things that you have to talk yourself into, and mean it. I remember 20 years ago when I quit smoking, and the silliest thought that actually helped me quit cold turkey, was ' if I don't allow myself to put the cigarette in my hand and light it, then I won't smoke it." Simple,…
  • Ah, a plateau...I so wish I was on a plateau right now (LOL). I am just starting my weight loss. But I do remember the last plateau I was on left me stranded for weeks and weeks. Have you tried really really restricting for a couple of days and then having a really good blow out day just to mix things up a little. I worked…
  • Wow! Seriously impressed!
  • Julie, I am new, too. You and are close in age (I'm 49). How much do you want to lose overall. I am trying to lose the twenty plus five pounds I lost two years ago LOL. I have been on the site for a week and have lost a pound, so I figure I am off to a good start.

  • I am curious about sugars.....I thought that sugar spikes caused fat to build up around your abdomen. I have NAFLD (non alcoholic fatty liver disease) and I have been told to erase as much sugar as possible from my diet to help melt away that fat surrounding my liver. It was suggested I only eat one piece of fruit a day. I…
  • This is my exact meal of choice!
  • I have not heard of Strava or Muse....looks like there is some googling in my future!
  • This cracked me right up!
  • From what I've read, bread reacts in your body very much like sugar. I try to avoid bread. It is really hard to figure out things to eat without eating them with bread, until you are in a new habit. I think Subway should be a treat every once in a while. We should all be able to indulge sometimes, right?
  • I had a sweet tooth. But honestly, I struggled and kicked sugar out of my diet in a big way, felt the withdrawals and the cravings for about three days. Would only allow myself to eat nuts or 90% dark chocolate instead of sugar. And, guess what? No more cravings. A tough three days, but I think cold turkey really worked…
  • Please add me as your friend. I am 49 years old. And while my weight issues are not as extreme as yours, I recognize my struggles with food in yours. I read your post because I saw Nausicaa under your picture, and I love all things Hayao Miyazaki (whom I first heard about in my early 40s). So we have a few things in…
